Prologue

Darkness.

That was the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes. Once my eyes eventually adjusted to the pitch black scene in front of me I noticed I wasn't alone. There was a silhouette walking towards me.

"Ah, I see you're awake." I jumped when I heard the figure speak.

I collected all the courage left in me and faced the shadowy figure. "Where am I? W-what is this place?" My voice cracked a bit at the end.

"That's not important at the moment. If I was you, I'd be asking myself how I got here in the first place."

I froze. "What do you mean?"

"Oh, you don't remember, do you? It's quite fascinating, in fact. By the look of your right hand I assume you've been in contact with something rather powerful." I glanced at my hand but didn't see anything in the dim lightning.

The voice came closer. "But that's not the most interesting fact about you. The real reason why I'm this curious, is because you're still alive."

There was a moment of silence before the voice continued. "Now, I would be very grateful if you could tell me exactly what happened when you touched it."

"Touched what?" I didn't understand what was going on.

"The stone, you foolish girl!" I flinched at the harshness of the voice but suddenly it hit me.

I touched that weird purple stone my Master's customers had brought for him. That was also the reason why I was unconcious. I just couldn't help but touch it. I felt like it was calling me. I sighed. All I wanted was to be free from my Master. I didn't want to get sent somewhere else.

"That's interesting." I froze. Did he just-?

"You're thoughts aren't too quiet, my dear." The voice paused and I felt the person in front of me come one step closer again.

"Now," the voice hissed, "what is your name?"

"I-I'm Carina."

"Well Carina, would you like to go some elsewhere. Away from all this darkness?"

"I-I don't understand what yo-" I couldn't finish my sentence. I felt something cold touching my forehead and then I fell back to unconciousness.
