The sunlight barely filtered through the trees. There was a heavy mist that rendered her vision. All was dark, except the occasional spot where the trees created a clearing, allowing sunlight to filter through. Although seeing was nearly impossible in the murky Mirkwood forest, she kept a sharp eye out for any movement in the shadows.
Desperately, (Y/N) just wanted to be back in the palace, where she could be safe and sound. She desperately wanted to be in the arms of her lover. Since the quarrel with her lover just before (Y/N) set out to scout orcs, she felt a sudden and darkening sense of foreboding.
Suddenly, an arrow whizzed past her, nearly striking her in the shoulder. She turned in the direction of the arrow, only to realise that she and two other elves were being ambushed by orcs.
She took her arrow and placed it in firing position on the bow. Another arrow was launched in her direction. Soon, she realised a flaw in her defense, there was twelve orcs and three elves. All twelve of the orcs had arrows with poison- dipped tips. If one embedded itself into her, she could die within the next two hours.
Realising this, (Y/N) ordered the other elves to cease fire and lower their weapons. "You're ours, elf- scum," the orc nearest (Y/N) said, sounding strangled. In a panic, (Y/N) could think of no distractions that could make the orcs take their beady eyes off of the elves long enough for them to escape.
"Elves, we must do as they command. If not, then the chance of death is high," (Y/N) said, running ideas through her head. The orcs snarled at the three elves and readied their arrows. One elf, who was driven by fury, sent an arrow into the eye of the orc closest to them. "Maldaenor, you're going to regret that," one of the elves said just as the orc fell to its knees and let out an agonising shriek.
The other eleven orcs launched their arrows at the elves almost immediately after. (Y/N) ducked just as an arrow whizzed by her head. Maldaenor released an arrow just as one embedded itself into his chest. The area around the arrow darkened and blood poured out of his wound, staining his blue tunic a red- violet colour.
Maldaenor fell onto his back and his body began convulsing. (Y/N) watched in horror as the elf's life force faded. Suddenly, adrenaline began coursing through her veins. She gritted her teeth and shot arrow after arrow, hitting nine orcs in all, resulting in ten orc corpses in total.
As she hit each mark with precision, the sounds of shrieks and screams of agony pierced the thick, dark air. After the tenth orc fell to its knees, (Y/N) then felt something wet run down her face. She wiped it away, only then realising that she was crying. Suddenly, she longed for the comforting arms of her lover.
The two remaining orcs took advantage of (Y/N)'s weakened state and readied their arrows. Two orcs against one elf, who was crying and sinking to her knees. Just as the orcs were about to release their arrows, they fell over dead, but not without releasing piercing shrieks from being beheaded in one swift motion.
(Y/N) was curling into a ball and sobbing. She was the only remaining elf of the original three elves that were scouting orcs. The elvenking, who had slain the orcs, found his lover curled into a ball, sobbing violently on the forest floor, surounded by fourteen total corpses.
He sheathed his sword and ushered his elk to move forwards. He stopped the elk at (Y/N)'s form and dismounted. Carefully, so as to not startle her, he lifted her up and mounted her on his elk. He lifted himself onto the elk, behind her, and turned the elk to the direction of the palace.
The elvenking wrapped an arm around (Y/N) and pulled her close. She snuggled into his chest and released a puff of breath. "I'm sorry," she said tiredly as she leaned into Thranduil.
The elvenking sighed, and pulled (Y/N) closer. "No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have allowed my anger to control me. I knew that you were right, and yet I refused to believe it. Therefore, I sincerely apologise and I dearly love you," he said. (Y/N) finally allowed a smile to grace her pink lips.
"I forgive you, but I love you more," she said, just as he dismounted from the elk. Thranduil helped (Y/N) down and put his hands on her waist. "I don't believe that it's possible for you to love me more than I love you," Thranduil said, smiling.
(Y/N) smirked and sighed. "Then show me, my king. Show me that you truly love me more than I love you," she said. The elvenking got the hint and chuckled. "I would be more than pleased to oblige, my love," he said, wrapping an arm around her waist.
