don't worry, i'm not going to bang on about what is currently going on in the world, just briefly mention it

hey kids

so, things are a bit rough right now in the world and we are living in unprecedented times

this means that we have a lot! of! time! on our hands now that most of us are at home, so i thought i'd recommend a bunch of shows in case any of you lot are already dying of boredom lol

this will hopefully cover a lot of platforms (not just netflix lol) and genres but there is a chance i won't mention anything that sounds good or that you have access to so i apologise lol

also i'm v bad at describing things so this could go south quite quickly OH WELL

ive pushed a lot of these before but this is the big boi list SO

1 | brooklyn 99 - netflix

SEASON SIX WAS ADDED TO NETFLIX UK THIS MORNING I AM VERY EXCITED

this show is a comedy set in the 99th precinct (duh) of the nypd. it has a bunch of cool characters, short episodes making it easier to binge and very hooking running threads. also there is lots of it! and more being made so DO IT

also it actually does focus a lot of the details of cases which i really like it is a very nice mix good good

2 | riverdale - netflix

i know it's trash

IT REALLY IS BUT the first seasons was much better AND more self aware. it has definitely gone downhill (the 3rd season was,,,, good lord) but i really quite like the current season and adore jughead and betty as characters. plus trash teen drama murder mystery is good for the soul and i stand by that

but fuck archie andrews

3 | the umbrella academy - netflix

the second season of this is still being produced and will hopefully still be out later this year!! so it is a very good time to watch it

this show is based on comics written by gerard way about 7 kids all born on the same day who have superpowers, and are adopted by a billionaire asshole

the dad dies, bringing back the squad for a nice family reunion! but shit goes down because the apocalypse is coming YAY

not gonna lie, i found the first episode or so of this a bit slow and hard to get into, but after that it only went uphill and it is really good if youre into action and character development woooo

4 | victorious - netflix

i'm not even going to defend myself on this one yes it is a kids show no i don't care because it is GOOD

if you haven't heard of it, victorious is set in a highschool for le arts and follows a group of TEENS as they have DILEMAS and GO TO CLASS and D A T E 

i don't really know what else to say about it it's funny without anything particularly deep going on cause yaknow

it's for kids

5 | sex education - netflix

talk about a u-turn lol

as an asexual i would like to say that despite having MANY MANY sex scenes there actually not that sexy? they don't have that vibe, a lot of them are quite funny actually lol

also i love the characters! and the plot! it is quite intense! eric is a fucking legend

for those who don't know, sex education is about a kid named otis whose mum is a sex therapist, and he gives out sex advice at his college even though he has literally no experience

well done mate smart move

6 | the politician - netflix

this is not about real politics; it's set in a highschool where this kid payton is running for school president, but shit HITS THE F A N

people really start to show their true colours and crime occurs and SADNESS

very saddness

 but very good, also theyll be a second season which is gonna be greatttt ah highly recommend especially if you stan ben platt like i do

7 | aj and the queen - netflix

this show is about a drag queen (PLAYED BY RU PAUL) who is conned by her supposed fiance, and precedes to go on a world tour with a child

i know it's an amazing premise

it actually had me on the edge of my seat for a lot of it,,,, but mostly i just love ru paul oops

I WANT A SECOND SEASON BUT I DON'T THINK WE'RE GETTING ONE URGH

8 | sherlock - netflix, sky and bbc iplayer

sherlock is back on iplayer! i was shocked too

i feel no need to explain the premise of this show or how much i love it, just that if you haven't seen it yet literally what are you doing YOU ARE MISSING OUT

9 | doctor who - netflix, sky and bbc iplayer

my lil space baby :)))

if youve never seen doctor who before, i would suggest you start on season one of modern who, give it a few episodes and if youre not into it, skip to the next doctor. keep doing it until you find someone you like! yes, there be some references and threads that may be a bit lost on you but if youre that confused there's always the wiki

personally, i'm not a big fan of number 9. i wanna give him another chance cause i liked him as a child, but i usually get bored half through rose and skip to david tennant's debut oops lol

10 | torchwood - skky and bbc iplayer

GOD I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE

torchwood is a doctor who spinoff about an institution which hunts alien life and their technology to protect wales (AHA) and prevent said technology from getting in the wrong hands

despite being a spinoff, it is very good as a stand alone show!! although some references will fly right over you it doesn't cover anything important

it's centred around our beloved captain jack harkness from doctor who, and this prick gwen who i am afraid does not get any less annoying but you'll get through it i believe in you

this is a much more mature show than doctor who (no, really there are so many sex scenes it's stupid) but i n c r e d i b l e although the first two seasons are the best, three was good and ive put a pause on four for now BUT ANYWAY FIRST TWO SEASONS AT LEAST

11 | patrick melrose - sky and bbc iplayer

this show is extremely dark and tackles many hard hitting topics

however

it is also incredibly funny, heartbreaking and will make you t h i n k

it follows this dude (guess his name) from after his abusive dad dies, with every episode covering a different time period of this life from after that

the more it goes on, the more you understand why he is the way he is and it h u r t s but is so worth it

highly recommend, check the warnings first and e n j o y 

12 | a confession - sky and bbc iplayer

something a bit different! a historical drama about a police officer whose carer was ruined after something went wrong in his case

i don't really want to anything more than that but it's another one that will make you think, good if youre into crime drama and moral dilemmas lol

13 | years and years - sky (?) and bbc iplayer

this follows a specific family many years into the future as the world goes to absolute SHIT

most of what happens you will not see coming woo

the real shit it tackle thankfully, if my memory serves me well, does not "predict" anything to do with current events so it does serve as escapism although it will make you quite sad aha

there's gay though

14 | hustle - sky and bbc iplayer

i have only watched four seasons of this because the cast changed a bunch after that, and i don't have the heart to go on YAY

but 

the four seasons i HAVE watched are amazing, it's about a group of con artists who fuck with people who are quite frankly the scum of the rich

danny is my boi

15 | good omens - amazon prime

this used to be on iplayer but sadly was taken off a few weeks ago! despite being produced in collaboration with bbc two it did not get a chance to b r e a t h bloody hell

anyway this is about a demon named crowley (david tennant!) and an angel named aziraphale (michael shEEN!!!) who team up to stop armagedeon, even though their on oPPoSiTe siDeS

if youre not a fan of taking the piss of religion, this is not the show for you! not offensive, just humour

i adore these two honestly, they are so gay! gayer than johnlock!! I KNOW HOW

16 | house - amazon prime

oh my god

this show is my current obsession i love it

i started it on thursday i think? am nearly done with season one there is EIGHT, it's about an unconventional doctor who hates people, is addicted to painkillers, and is basically johnlock's love child on every single fucking level so we stan

obviously if youre squeamish in anyway, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU you see a lot of gory shit but it is hilarious and i love the characters except chase he's really pissing me off at the moment-

and finally,,,

17 | broadchurch - um

tbh i don't know why i am bothering to recommend this because the only way ive been able to watch it is buying the boxset

however it is EXTREMELY GOOD, if you have any extra money youre not planning on spending that i suggest you take a chance with this if you like crime shows, suspecting the worst of your neighbours and cranky david tennant :))))

and that's it! hopefully this was helpful to someone, we could all do with a bit of extra escapism right now
