At the doctor's office, Jin sat opposite to the doctor. The doctor's expression was sad as he began to speak.
"Yoongi has stomach cancer," he said gently, feeling sad for him. "And unfortunately, he is entering the last stage of the illness."
Tears welled in Jin's eyes as he couldn't bear the words and started to plead with him. "Please, doctor," he begged. "C-Can't you do something? Anything to save him? I'll pay for any treatment, any medicine- just please, help him..."
But the doctor shook his head sadly. "I'm sorry," he said softly with sympathy. "At this stage, there's very little we can do. I wish I could offer you more hope, but the reality is that his condition is worsening."
Jin began to sob as he struggled to process the words. What was he supposed to do now? Was there really no hope?
"Didn't Yoongi tell you about his illness before?"
Jin shook his head in response, tears streaming down his cheeks. Everything seemed to be almost too much to bear, realizing Yoongi had been suffering in silence for so long.
The doctor nodded sympathetically. "Please don't cry," he said softly. "We will still do everything we can to help him, even in this late stage."
But Jin couldn't shake off the overwhelming despair. "How long has he been admitted?" He asked, his voice trembling.
The doctor sighed. "It's been five to six months," he replied. "It seems that he fainted at home due to the terrible pain he had in his abdomen. Then, one of his friends, someone named Jungkook, went there and found him unconscious. He admitted him to the hospital, and that's when we found out about Yoongi's real condition. And we figured that he was already in a critical condition. It seems he had been battling this cancer for about a year before, but the symptoms only began to occur recently, which is why he may not have been aware of it too before coming here."
Jin asked with desperation, "I-Is there anything I can do to help?"
The doctor's expression softened. "I'm sorry," he replied. "We have tried everything but none of them have been effective. At this point, all you can do is be by his side."
Jin's heart sank at his words, the reality of the situation crashing down.
"We don't know for sure how long he will survive but..." the elder hesitated for a moment. "For now, we predicted around three months," he admitted. "If he's lucky, he may have five months. But I'm afraid we can't predict with certainty."
Three months. Five months. It may feel like an eternity and yet, all too fleeting at the same time.
With a heavy heart, he delivered the final blow. "I don't have any choice but to tell you," he started softly. "You should prepare yourself for the worst."
Jin's eyes widened as he continued to cry, hiding his face into his palm. The doctor stood up as he patted his back, trying to comfort him.
He sniffled hard as he made his way back to Yoongi's room. The other nurses in the corridor looked at him sympathetically, understanding his emotions.
With a shaky breath, he pushed open the door, his heart pounding as he stepped inside. He saw Yoongi sitting on the bed, his sketchbook in hand, drawing something.
Yoongi glanced up, his fingers froze as he saw the sight of Jin trying not to cry infront of him.
His own tears gathered in his eyes, "Hyung..." he whispered. "Please don't cry," his voice trembled as he tried to smile.
"I..." His efforts to look brave went in vain as his voice faltered, tears threatening to pour over his pink cheeks as he struggled to maintain them. "I am sorry..."
Jin's heart broke as his own tears flew freely. He looked up, his vision blurred by tears as he tried his best to make them stop. He tried to steady his breathing, to calm the storm of emotions but it was futile. The weight of the reality was threatening to suffocate him.
With trembling hands, he slowly approached Yoongi and he reached out. He gently took his hand in his own, pressing gentle kisses on them.
Yoongi's gaze faltered as he tried to control his emotions. He looked away, his jaw clenched tight as he fought to look strong, blinking away his tears.
Yoongi knew that he won't last long, he knew his time was running out.
He closed his eyes, trying to stay strong. But deep down, he knew that his body was growing weaker with each passing day, each passing moment bringing him closer to his end of life.
As the sound of Jin's soft sobs filled the room, Yoongi wanted to tell him that everything will be alright. But he knew that he couldn't make false promises or false hope when the truth hung so heavily in the air.
Jin's voice trembled as he spoke, "Y-Yoongi, why didn't you tell me before...?" he asked with tears still streaming down his face.
Yoongi sniffled softly. "I... I didn't want you to worry," he admitted. "You were achieving your biggest dreams and... and I didn't want to burden you with my illness. I wanted you to be happy."
But Jin's cries only intensified at his words. "You were wrong, Yoongi..," he said. "Y-You are my biggest happiness... How could you think that anything else could matter more to me than your love...?"
Despite his efforts to stay strong, a sudden sob escaped Yoongi's lips, the sound echoing in the quiet room. More tears started to stream down his face as Jin's words crashed down all of the walls he had built up.
The loneliness of his suffering and the love he felt for Jin all collided and became a storm of emotions.
Jin wrapped his arms around him, pulling him close as Yoongi buried his face in his chest, his sobs growing louder as he let go of the strength he had tried so hard to maintain.
The room filled with the sound of his cries, each sob a release of the pain and fear he had been holding back for so long.
Jin held him tightly, his own tears flowing freely as he tried to whisper soothing words.
Yoongi clung to him, his body shaking with his sobs. For the first time in months, he allowed himself to fully feel his emotions.
They stayed like that for a long time, wrapped in each other's arms, sharing grief and love.
After a while, Yoongi sat on the bed as he gazed at the peony bouquet Jin had brought him. He brushed his fingers through the delicate petals.
"At first.., I was just feeling these sudden stomach aches at night," he began. "I... I thought it was because I wasn't eating well or maybe just stress. I never imagined it was something more..."
He then said, trembling, "But one day, it was too severe and the pain didn't fade away even after I took some normal medications... So, I decided to go to a hospital."
Jin listened intently as Yoongi continued, his fingers still caressing the flowers as if they were a fragile link to the life he had once known. "But then, when I finally went to there, they ran some tests. That's when I found out the truth."
His voice faltered as he looked up at Jin. "I didn't want to believe it. I didn't want it to be real. But the doctors said it was stomach cancer and by then, it was already advanced... They told me that I should be admitted, but the cost was too expensive.. So, I only bought some medicines for the illness and went back home.."
Jin heart ached. "T-Then? I saw some medicines at home, and... they looked as if the labels were blurred intentional-"
Yoongi sniffled softly as he cut him off, looking down. "Jungkook... he came home sometimes, and that's why I purposely blurred the labels... I didn't want him to find out... But some days after that, I was having another severe pain, and I couldn't even walk... I walked downstairs from my room while grabbing at anything I could to stay upright. Many things were scattered around as I walked, grabbing the wall, anything that could help me..."
He paused, his voice trembling with the memory. "Then I got the newly bought medicines from the cabinet and sat at the dining table with them. But then, I don't know what happened after that. The next thing I knew, I woke up here, admitted to this hospital..."
Jin's heart clenched at his words. "You were alone... going through all of that alone," he whispered.
Yoongi nodded, looking away. "I didn't want to burden you or anyone else... I thought I could handle it..."
Jin's breath hitched as he took Yoongi's hand once again. "But why Yoongi? Why didn't you tell me soon..?" he whispered. "Why did you go through all of this alone..? You could have told me!"
Yoongi squeezed his hand, his grip weak. "You... You were doing so well, living your dream... I didn't want my illness to hold you back or make you worry..."
Jin shook his head. "B-But Yoongi, you are my dream..! You are everything to me! How could you think I wouldn't want to be there for you, no matter what..?"
Yoongi's tears again spilled over. "I... I was just scared," he admitted. "I was so scared of losing you, of you seeing me like this. I thought you will leave m-"
Jin cut him off as he shook his head, "You could never lose me," he whispered. "Why would I even leave you alone? You are my world, Yoongi..!"
"I know," Yoongi muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I know and I'm so sorry..." He stuttered through his words. "I... I didn't want you to see me like this. I didn't want to ruin the image you had of me..."
Jin pressed a gentle kiss on his temple. "You could never ruin anything," he said softly. "You are perfect to me, no matter what... We promised to be there for each other, remember...?"
Yoongi nodded against Jin's chest as he hugged him. "I'm sorry," he repeated, his voice cracking. "I'm so sorry for not telling you..."
Jin stroked his hair. "It's okay," he murmured.
Yoongi pulled back slightly, looking at his eyes. "H-Hyung, the doctors said that 80% of my body is already consumed by the cancer," he whispered. "What if I could di-"
"But Yoongi," Jin interrupted, his voice gentle, "there's still 20%. That means there's still hope. We can still fight this. We can find a way to beat it...!"
Yoongi's eyes widened slightly. "Y-You really think so?"
Jin nodded immediately. "I believe in you, Yoongi. You've faced so many things, and you've always come out stronger! This is just another challenge..!"
"I want to believe that, too. I really do." Yoongi whispered.
Jin kissed his hand. "Then believe it... We'll look for the best doctors, the best treatments! We'll explore every option..! We won't give up!"
Yoongi leaned in closer to him again. "Thank you, hyung..." he whispered. "I don't know what I would do without you..."
Jin kissed the top of his head. "You don't have to thank me. I'll always be by your side..."
Then, suddenly, a new doctor entered the room, catching their attention. The doctor smiled warmly, his dimples showing as another smaller doctor stood beside him, looking shy.
"Hello," the doctor said, his voice soothing and calm.
"...I'm Dr. Kim Namjoon, and this is Dr. Kim Taehyung. We're specialists in oncology."
