Night Terrors

The sun had begun setting earlier when October had begun, but it hadn't gotten to the point where it was dark by 5:30 pm yet, luckily. But when the sun did set and covered Storybrooke in darkness, August's nightmares from Hades returned. He was in a comatose state and nothing Nicole or Marco did could wake him.

So Nicole, with specific instructions from Marco, set off to find Lily in the dark. Granny's wasn't far from Marco's house; much closer than where Tinker Belle lived. Nicole was to get Lily so Lily could find Tinker Bell. They would probably be needing a fairy's help to cure August.

When Nicole, Lily, and Tinker Bell arrived at Marco's house, he was still clearly under Hades' spell. His skin was clammy and too pale to be healthy.

Tinker Bell took one look at him and grimaced. "You said Hades put him under this spell?"

Lily nodded. "He woke up this morning and said all he remembered was that he had had some hallucinations and nightmares, but he couldn't remember what they were about. And Merlin sped up the night for us, so we didn't think it was that big of a deal."

Tink pursed her lips. "It's a very old spell that makes you live out your deepest, darkest fear. However, it only works while the sun is down. Once the sun rises, you're free from the spell until sunset. There's legend of a potion that can reverse the effects, but I'm certain we don't have all of the ingredients here in Storybrooke.

"Well why is that?" Lily asked.

"Because one of the ingredients is water from a lake of salt."

"We have one of those in America!" Nicole piped up. "Salt Lake City, Utah. That's where the Great Salt Lake is."

Lily nodded in agreement. "We can buy plane tickets and go visit the Great Salt Lake."

Tink smiled. "If there really is a salt lake, as you say, then we have a chance to make this potion and save August. We need to head across the town line as soon as possible. Lily, you can come with me."

"Just the two of us?" Lily questioned.

"I want to go with!" Nicole exclaimed.

Lily shook her head. "No, you need to stay here where it's safe. Tinker Bell and I will be back in a few days."

"Yes, it's far too dangerous for you to come with us," Tink said. "The salt lake in the Enchanted Forest is thought to be home to the most terrifying if demons, and it's possible the salt lake here could be the same way. You should stay here with Marco and August."

Nicole's face fell. "Okay."

Tink looked to Lily, "Be ready to leave by seven tomorrow. We'll drive because I think we may need to make a few more stops in places across the town line to gather all of the ingredients."

When August woke up the next morning, he had a fever. He was able to recall more of the nightmares he had had, but not much. Nicole helped Marco pile blankets on August to stop him from shivering so much and then sat with August while Marco made chicken noodle soup.

"So Tink and Lily are headed to the Great Salt Lake?" August asked Nicole.

Nicole nodded. "Apparently Tinker Bell knows a potion to cure you, but she needs water from a the Great Salt Lake to make it."

"Salt lakes were never a good thing back in the Enchanted Forest," August mused. "I always made sure I steered clear of Utah when I was out across the town line."

"Tinker Bell mentioned that people thought they were where demons lived."

"Yeah," August agreed absentmindedly. "They said the worst of demons lived there. I wonder if it's the same at the Great Salt Lake..."

"Could demons really live in one of the most well-known lakes in this country without anyone noticing?"

"You'd be surprised what kind of magical things people go without noticing."
