Chapter 27
Date: 25th April, 2016.
This is going to be crappy. Writing in a guy's point of view is so difficult.
"Have you ever considered that we lead ourselves on?
We overthink everything; every touch, every look, every text.
We create scenarios in our mind with that person
building it into something that it isn't, something it never was.
Maybe we should stop passing the blame, maybe we break our own hearts."
BLAZE'S POV
I parked the car in Nov's driveway and got out, shielding my eyes from the sun. I twirled the car keys around my finger and walked towards the door, without any care in the world.
I took out the spare key from my pocket, unlocking the front door and walked in as if I owned the place.
I quickly walked into the kitchen taking out all the ingredients that were needed to make pancakes and eggs, my girl's gonna be hungry when she wakes up.
I walked to the fridge and took out Nov's favourite, mixed fruit juice and took out two glasses too.
I mixed all the ingredients and poured a little amount of the batter on the gas. Ten minutes later, I was done making pancakes and eggs simultaneously. I set the table and poured the juice in the glasses.
Nov should be here any second now.
I sat on the stool and rest my chin on my palm which was resting on the counter. My fingers tapped the counter waiting impatiently. We are so going to be late for school.
Five minutes later, Nov had still not come down and it was awfully quiet.
Looks like she's still sleeping, I thought to myself, rolling my eyes.
I took out my phone and checked the time. I had a voicemail form Nov but I cleared my notifications.
I sprinted up the stars, taking two at a time and barged into her room. What I saw, made me stop in my tracks.
There she lay, lifeless in the pool of her own blood. She was bleeding profusely and I didn't waste any other minute. I rushed downstairs and took a cloth, wetting it slightly. I ran back upstairs and wiped off all the blood from her hands.
I quickly tied the cloth around her hands to prevent more blood loss and applied pressure. Next, I checked for her pulse.
Weak, but still there.
Without any further ado or second thought, I picked her up and carefully descended down the stairs, jogging straight to my car. I unlocked the car and lay her down on the backseat not caring if the seats got covered in blood.
Wasting no time, I got in the driver's seat and put the key into ignition. The engine roared to life and I drove way past the speed limit. I picked up my phone and called up Noah on the way.
'Hey, what's up, bro?" His cheerful voice came from the other end.
"Hospital, now." I told him with a very shaky voice.
"What? Why?" His voice was more alert now.
"I walked in to Nov's house and made her breakfast. She didn't come down, as she does always so I went to check up on her." I took a breath, calming myself.
She'll be okay, Blaze. She's a fighter.
"When I entered the room, she way laying there in her own blood, unconscious. She's in my car right now. I didn't want to wait for the ambulance to show up."
"I'm on my way with Liam and the others." Noah replied.
I hung up and drove faster, keeping my eyes on the road. I parked the car at the entrance haphazardly and carried Nov in my arms, rushing in, shrieking for the doctor.
In a flash, she was taken from my arms and placed into a gurney. A nurse put on an oxygen mask on her face and they quickly wheeled her to the operation room.
Everything happened like a bat out of hell that I had no idea what was going on. I was in a daze.
A few minutes later, the boys came rushing in and crowded around me. A choruses of 'what happened?' and 'what's wrong' surrounded me but I couldn't think straight.
All I could think about was about Nov laying there out cold, covered in crimson red.
Liam hushed everyone and asked me, "Will she be okay?"
I hunched my shoulders and said, "I don't know man, I don't know."
I dragged my feet to the waiting room and sat down. I ran my fingers through my hair, waiting. All we could do is await.
Noah sat on a side of my and Liam the other. Damien, Ashton and Sean were here too.
I rubbed my hands on put the on my face, then ran them through my hair. Taking a deep breath, I got up and walked further away from the others. I took out my phone and dialled Nov's mom's number from memory. She picked up on the third ring.
"Hey Blaze!" She said and I could picture her smiling.
"Hey Meg." I replied, my voice dull.
"What's wrong?" She asked concerned, and suddenly alert like Noah was.
"It's Nov."
"What about her?" Her voice worried.
"She's in the operating room right now." I broke the news.
"Why?!" Meg burst into hysterics.
"As usual, I came to make breakfast and pick her up for school. When I was done making food, I waited for her to come down but she didn't. She wasn't this late even when she was way past the clock. It was awfully quiet so I thought she was still sleeping but when I entered her room," I paused. I collected myself and continued. "When I entered her room, she was laying there lifeless in her own blood." I said repeating myself for the third time.
I could listen to her mom sob from the other end and I closed my eyes painfully. I'm sure that pain and anxiety were the only two emotions writ on my face. She was like my mother and it hurt me to listen to her crying. I wanted to comfort Meg, I really did and a little part of me hoped that she could comfort me too.
"Will she be okay?" Meg asked in a bleat voice.
"I don't know but I hope so." I answered truthfully.
"We'll be there on the first flight we get."
"Okay."
"And Blaze?" Her mom questioned with a shaky voice.
"Yeah?"
"Can you please pick Kyle up and accompany him?"
"Will do, Meg." I told her.
"I will see you soon, son." She said
"See you soon." I hung up, crying a bit.
I walked back to others were and informed them I was going to pick Kyle up from school.
"Sit." Sean said.
"You're in no condition to drive." Ashton explained.
That somehow irritated me. How was I supposed to pick Kyle up! Her teachers knew me well enough for me to take him home. They trusted me. Kyle needed me! Why don't they understand?
"Blaze, deep breaths." Liam said, feeling the irritation and anger radiating off me. "I'll go pick him up, the teachers know me too."
I simply clenched my jaw, nodded and handed him the keys of my car.
About forty five minutes later, Liam came back with Kyle, confusion clear on latter's face. Just looking at him made all of the anger leave my body.
He walked over to me and asked what was wrong. How do I tell him? I racked my brains but Kyle was mature and he deserved to know what really happened. He could handle it well.
"Your sister is in the operating room." I told him
"Why?" He asked with wide eyes.
I repeated myself for the fourth time and told him what had happened.
I didn't speak for a minute or two, letting him absorb everything.
"So she was attacked?" He asked me.
"She must be." I said back.
"Who did it and why?" He questioned.
"I don't know, kiddo." I answered slinging my arm around his shoulder.
We all sat in silence until Ashton asked Kyle, "Did you check up on her this morning?"
He shook his head no. "I was very late and I just shouted that I was leaving."
We waited, and waited, and waited.
One of the doctors came rushing in and asked us if anyone was the 'A+' type of blood as they had run out of blood.
"She has lost a lot of blood. A lot." He told us. "The little amount of blood we hades now over."
"I am 'A+' blood type, I can donate blood." I said, volunteering.
"This way." The doctor told me, not wasting any second. I jogged to the room and the nurse made me lay down on the hospital bed.
A needless inserted in my arm and two pints of blood were taken from me.
"Here, eat these. They will restore the sugar levels of your blood." I nodded, taking the juice pack and two cookies from her.
She walked away with the blood and I drank the juice, throwing the carton in the dustbin after I was done. I didn't want to eat when I didn't know if Nov was going to be okay but I had to. I ate the cookies and walked back to where the others were.
I sat down and Kyle instantly curled up next to me.
"It will be alright." I told him, running my fingers through his hair.
Not saying anything, he further curled up to my side.
Noah looked at him with pity. To Kyle, Alaska was his life even if hey didn't spend every breathing second together. He always looked up to her.
"Do you want to get something to eat?" I asked him.
He was running late this morning, it meant he did not have any breakfast. e must be so hungry.
On cue, this stomach growled and he nodded yes I got up, him following suit and I asked others if they wanted to join us. Sean shook his head no telling me to bring something for them and the others agreed. Nobody wanted to leave. I nodded understandingly and walked out with Kyle, not before taking the keys from Liam.
We got in my car and I asked him what did he want to eat.
"McDonalds." He said.
I nodded and drove way. I had to act normal in front of him. I had to be strong. He was (like) my little brother and I had to make sure he was alright.
We reached and I parked the car. We got in and Kyle scurried away to find a table whereas I walked to place the order.
A girl about ur age was taking the order and she started flirting with me. I gave a disgusted glance, unimpressed.
Nov was the only girl for me and always will be.
I gave her short replies and hurried away when I was done paying. I collected our order and the take away and placed it on the table where Kyle was.
I asked him about school and generally anything which could take his mind of Nov.
When we were back at the hospital, the others including Liz were there too. We sat in silence except where everyone tried to distract Kyle.
About two hours later, the doctor came in.
"Will she be alright?" I sprang the question at him.
"We don't know for sure. She has lost a lot of blood and the cuts are deep. We have shifted her to the I.C.U. and she's in coma." He said sympathetically and walked away.
I wanted to span at him. Tell him to tell us for are but he was just doing his job and there was nothing he could magically do to make her better.
"So, she's in coma." Kyle finally broke the tense silence.
