Chapter 22

Date: 3rd April, 2016.

So this quote (excerpt) I am about to write is longer than usual, sorry!

(Ignore the typos)

"I wish I had met you sooner.

If you were mine when I was sixteen, I never would have fallen for the boy in my chemistry class and cracked my head open on his chest. I couldn't see straight for weeks after that.

And maybe if I had know you since I was a little girl, I would never have gotten sad enough to hurt myself, a tick mark in my skin for each time my mother cried.

And if we had met two summers ago, I probably would have been asleep in your bed instead of  my sister's hospital room when she crashed her car and I could have twirled my fingers around your hair instead of pulling the strings out of the hospital blankets.

If we had met just a few months sooner, I'd probably never know the taste of too many pills because my mouth would be too busy telling you that I love you.

I know that people can't save you, I'm just saying, I wouldn't know what it is like to mean it when I say I want to die. "

ALASKA'S POV

"Geez, I know I am late, I'll be out in a minute." I said, speedily combing my hair and I tried to put on my socks at the same time. I hopped around my room, trying to find my other pair of my white converse. Somehow, I found it lying it under the bed.

How did it even get there?

"You are so lucky that I don't put makeup." I told him, he simply chuckled.

I quickly put the other shoe on and jogged down the stairs, taking two of them at a time.

I grabbed the whole entire cereal box on my way out and got into the car, quickly shutting the door. As I took a step forward, I groaned and rushed back into the house.

"Kyle, don't forget to lock the door on your way out!" My voice boomed throughout the house, the echo bouncing through the walls.

"Will do!" Came his quick reply and I ran towards Blaze's car, getting into the passenger seat and then slumping down, releasing a long breath.

He simply smirked seeing me so worked out and drove off, the car picking up the speed by every passing second.

I opened the box of Luck Charms and took some in my palm. Placing the box on the dash board, I started eating the cereal from my palm.

"Want some?" I offered

"Nah."

"Suit yourself" I shrugged.

More for me.

As I looked out of the window, he quickly snatched the remaining cereal from my hand and wolfed it down.

I made an annoyed sound at the back of my throat and took out some cereal from the box, flinging it at Blaze.

"Don't. Get. My. Car. Dirty." He practically growled.

I discreetly smirked, in the mood to mess with him and threw some more charms at him. He growled and parked the car on the side of the road.

He faced me and he had this menacing scowl on his face. I smiled at him, showing all of my teeth goofily. He glared at me and I smiler wider. With time, I saw his resolve dissolve. His glare got softer and he smiled back.

"You can never be mad at me." I said, proudly.

"I can. I choose not to."

"Liar. You can't last a day without me."

"I did." He simpered.

"You missed me tho." I responded.

"Yeah, I did." He said, not contradicting it.

His eyes widened suddenly and I looked at him funny.

"School!" He bellowed and quickly put the car back in drive.

He sped down the road, with me clutching on to the dash board for my dear life.

I am never ever driving with him again. (You and I, we both know that's a lie though).

As we entered the hallway, sprinting slightly,  he pleaded, "Please don't argue with Mr. Montez again. You don't want another detention now, do you?"

"Mhm. I'll try." No promises.

I burst open the door of our spacious class room and as usual, Mr. Montez glared at us.

I pouted feigning sadness, "What? No hello? Aren't you happy to see your two favourite students? I-"

Blaze put his hand on my mouth, effectively shutting me up.

"Sorry." He atoned and dragged me to the seat, his hand still around my mouth. As you could see, he didn't trust me enough to keep my mouth shut. Not that I blamed him.

He let go as we sat and I just shook my head.

I sat through the lecture, noiselessly, deciding that I should be good for once.

I got imbibed in my own thoughts and before I knew it, everyone was rushing out, eager to get to their next classes before the late bell.

I stood up, feeling a little wobbly but I shrugged it off. Blaze and I hurried to our next class, and we occupied the seats in the middle of the class.

The math lecture dragged on and on and frankly, I didn't understand a word. However, the teacher kept on teaching, not caring if we understood or not.

Just as the lecture was about to end, the teacher asked if we had any doubts and I raised my hand.

"Yes, Alaska?"

"I have a very serious doubt."

"Go ahead." She slightly frowned.

"Just, what the fuck?" I replied, the corners of my lips twitching slightly.

Now, everyone knew how strict she really was but none of them could control their chuckles. Her face turned red and she shouted, "Detention!" slapping a pink slip on my desk.

"Don't give her a detention." Blaze pouted, cutting in.

"Shut up, Blaze." she snapped.

"Pleaseeee?" He tried again, sticking his bottom lip out.

So cute, ugh.

"If you say a word more, I'll give you a detention too!"

He shrugged and said,  "As long as she is there, I'm all set."

I swear I could hear someone 'aww' and I secretly smiled.

She glared at him and slapped another pink slip on his desk, which was just next to mine. Blaze looked at me and said, "you won't be alone there anymore." and I swear, in that moment, I couldn't find any air to breathe. My cheeks turned red and I smiled at him.

He turned to look at Ms. Loy and said, "Since I already have detention, I want to tell you that you're a shitty teacher. You leave us hanging and don't care if we don't understand a word. Here, we have four steps to do geometry ourselves. First, Geometry. Second, Geomecry. Third, Geomewhy. And fourth, where we give up, Geomebye."

The whole class burst out laughing and her face turned red. "Get out!" She shouted on the top of her lungs, pointing towards the door. Blaze chuckled, and walked out of the class, winking at me.

I think that my heart just stopped beating.

Blaze was gone and then the students rushed out, seeing that Ms. Loy  had already held us back for ten minutes after the lecture.

I walked out and Blaze put his arm around me as soon as he saw me. I saw Liam at the end of the hall and waved him over. He jogged over to us and smiled.

"How was math?"

I smiled and replied, "Fun.", nudging Blaze.

Liam looked at us, his eyes coming between us. "Did you two knowingly flirt?"

"Huh?"

"You two always flirt, but never realise." "He shrugged, "Never mind."

"We managed to get a detention." Blaze said.

"Me too." Liam said, excitedly. "I won't have to be alone anymore." He fist bumped in the air. I lightly laughed and so did Blaze.

"So food?"

"Food." Blaze confirmed.

"Maybe 'food' can be your always."Liam sniggered.

I simply rolled my eyes and walked forward, acquisitive to get food.

I saw Liz at the lunch table and rushed to her.

"Hey!" I greeted enthusiastically.

"Hi." She smiled.

"How're you?" I probed, wanting to know how she was doing.

"Good, how about you?" She beamed back.

"Meh." I shrugged.

We talked more, effectively tuning out the others. The boys tried talking to Liz but she gave out short and curt replies. Weird, again, I shrugged it off and asked Blaze if he wanted to come over. Of corse, he said yes.

The bell rang and we dashed towards our classes and all of them passed in a blur and before I knew it, the day was over.

I bounced to the locker, too happy to finally go home. I opened my locker to take out my books and a pink slip on my top shelf stared back at me, mockingly.

I groaned out loud and slammed my locker shut, groaning again. All the happy had been sucked out of me in an instant.

I grudgingly walked towards the detention room where I had to spend my next two hours doing utterly, absolutely nothing. We were not even allowed to use our phones, what were we supposed to do?

I sat in the seat, killing everyone in my mind but I kept my face neutral.

A few seconds later, Blaze and Liam walked in laughing, sitting on either side of me.

Detention was boring and we were told to shut up when we talked.

She is going to tell us to stop breathing, I thought, rolling my eyes at myself.

I got into Blaze's car with a sullen expression with him trying to cheer me up. He even threw Lucky Charms at me and didn't freak out about his car getting dirty. That made me smile, to be honest. By the time we reached, I was back in a good mood. He had that effect on me.

After taking off my shoes and setting my bag by the door, I went into the kitchen and took out some edibles. I made my way towards the basement and tossed everything besides Blaze.

I scooted next to him and he pulled me closer. Even sitting, I barely reached up to his level.

"You're so short." Blaze chuckled.

"Yeah, you won't be saying that when I kick you down there." I threatened.

"It's like you barely grew. You've been the same height since you were fourteen." He laughed.

I gasped and punched him in the side. "Take that back!" I glared.

"Nah." He lazily smiled.

"Take. It. Back." I growled and straddled him. I poked my finger into his sides and started tickling him.

He wiggled around and his laughter filled the room. I laughed along with him and the laughter bounced off the walls.

Suddenly, the laughed died down and I sat there with a smile on my face, looking at Blaze. He smiled back and pulled me closer by the thighs. He slipped his hands around my waist I slipped mine around his neck.

I moved closer to him and nuzzled my face into his neck. He ticked me and I giggled. He hugged me and whispered, "The past weeks without you were hell."

"Same." I smiled and moved back.

You make me happy, I thought.

He leaned in and I did too. Just as we were about to kiss, Blaze sneezed in my face. I feigned and annoyed expression but after a minute, I couldn't control it, I laughed at his expression. It was exactly like a five year old caught stealing a cookie. I ruffled his hair and got off.

Blaze still looked embarrassed and I held in a squeal.

"Uh, I, um, brought you Five Seconds of Summer's merch."

"You remembered?"

"Um, of course. I told you I'll gift it to you."

He is so adorable when he is awkward.

I gave him a delightful smiled and rushed up the stairs and got into my room, searching for the merchandise.

I can't believe he still remembered that.

Maybe he does like me as I like him, I thought smiling to myself.
