"It all comes down to the person
you look for in a crowded room."
ALASKA'S POV
The next morning, I woke up alone. I stretched my arms and I could hear my bones cracking.
I stood up and climbed upstairs, into the kitchen. The smell of food filled my nostrils and I said, "Something smells good."
Blaze turned around and said, "No shit, I thought we ate dirt." and he rolled his eyes, me following shortly after.
I sat myself down on the kitchen stool and waited for my breakfast patiently. My mom walked in the kitchen and we greeted her.
"When'd you get back and what are you still doing here?" I asked her, not in arise but curious tone.
"Well, yesterday night when you were busy cuddling with Blaze" She wiggled her eyebrows and I choked on air. Smirking, she continued, "I decided to take the day off." She said and Blaze slid a dish full of pancakes in front of my mum and I.
He was blushing, oh my God.
Blaze made himself at home and sat down with us, with his plate of food.
We talked and after a few minutes, we fled to get ready (we were late for school). As we were leaving for school, my mum called me back into the kitchen and Blaze went ahead to get the car ready.
"Yes?" I asked her.
"How are you?"
"I am fine?" I questioned back.
"No, how are you feeling?"
"I am okay, just a little overwhelmed."
"I am worried." She confessed.
"I know." I replied.
"Do you still get the dreams?"
"Sometimes, yeah."
"What are they about?"
"Told ya already, the really violent ones. It feels as if I was kidnapped but they let me be free in that room, I don't really understand. Why?"
"Uh, nothing. We'll talk when you get home from school. Just take care. Now hurry up before you get late." She said. I kissed her cheek and made a dash for the door.
I got into Blaze's car which was parked by the driveway and got in. Seeing that we were late, he sped up and I rolled down the windows and let he cold air hit my face, whipping my hair behind.
I looked at Blaze to ask him something but all I could do in that moment was stare. His face was so chiseled and angular that it looked as if God himself had carved it.
"What?" He asked me.
"Nothing." I said shaking my head but I didn't look way.
I had missed Blaze too much.
My soul ached every moment we weren't talking.
"I know, I'm extremely good looking and everything but this your staring is seriously distracting me." He said in a cocky yet serious tone.
I looked away as we entered the school. I got down and waited for Blaze as he parked his car. We walked in and made in the class just in time as Mrs. Quentin entered the class just as sat down. I greeted Liam and Blaze fist bumped him.
The lecture seemed to drag on and on. Every five minutes I looked at the clock, the slower time would pass. In the end, Liam and I ended up talking through chits about The Lion King (don't even ask).
The day couldn't pass any slower and I couldn't be more relieved when lunch rolled around. By the time we settled down, Sean was laughing at literally anything anyone was saying.
"Are you high?" Damien finally asked.
"No, it's hey." Sean replied, rolling his eyes.
"Hey is for horses." Blaze butted in.
How did I end up with these lameandstupidbutawesome friends?
"When are we hanging out next?" Connor asked.
"Not today, I have a history text tomorrow." I said.
"You're such a nerd." Damien said.
"Oh well."
"Let's go paint balling tomorrow." Liam suggested.
"I am in." Liz was the first to say. A choruses of me too's followed shortly after and so, the plan was made.
"So we skipping school?" Ashton asked.
"OH GOD. No!" I exclaimed.
Everyone around the table jumped a bit and had startled expressions on their faces.
"Nov, no need to shout." Blaze said.
"Sorry" I said sheepishly, "History text, remember?"
"Oh yeah." Recognition was clear on Noah's face.
The bell rang and I banged my head on the table. "Why can't the day be over already!" I asked rhetorically.
"Oh Alaska, it can." Leo said. "Let's just sneak out."
I agreed. Blaze did. Liam did. Damien did. And so did the others.
We all waited till the others dispersed and tip toed to the back door of the school. I placed my hand on the handle and turned it. It didn't budge.
"It's locked." I said, stating the obvious.
"Are you sure that the cameras here aren't working?" Noah spoke up.
"Positive. I had been to the principle's office earlier today and all of them back here aren't working." Blaze said.
"So what do we do now?" Sean said.
"Get the keys, duh." Liam said. "Someone come with me."
"I will." Liz said.
Of course she will.
I slid down against the wall and pulled up my knees as my bum made contact with the cold ground. After a few minutes, they returned and Liam smirked.
"Here." Liam placed a cool object against my warm skin. I looked at it and they were a bunch of keys.
"Liz distracted the janitor and I borrowed him from him without him knowing." He explained.
I smiled and got to my feet. I tried the first key, it wouldn't enter. The second didn't either. After a few tries, I finally got to the right key and opened the door, taking extra care not to make any noise.
"One of has has to give the keys back." Liam said.
"I will." I volunteered. He nodded and said, "Go, Blaze and I will stay back, wait."
I nodded and walked away. I searched the halls for the janitor and after few minutes, I saw him. Seeing that his back was towards me, I took out the keys from my pocket. "Hey Mr. Stiles, these keys were fallen down."
"Ah, Alaska. Thank you so much." The old man smiled back at me.
"You're welcome!" I said and walked towards the back door. I saw Blaze, Liam and Damien waiting.
"I didn't want to go with Liz." Damien shrugged and I nodded in understanding.
"So now, we gotta get out but the cameras out there, in the parking lot, work and there's security." Blaze explained in a breath.
"Blaze, we have sneaked out before, breathe." I said.
He just nodded and we exited the school building, one by one. We had almost made it to the parking lot when we heard a voice behind us, "Hey! Wait!"
I turned my head around and saw the security guard, chasing us.
"Run!" Damien said.
Blaze quickly took my hand in his and we ran. The adrenaline pumped through my veins and I felt as if my whole body had come alive. Blaze quickly unlocked his car through the auto lock and we all quickly scampered in.
"Drive! Drive! Drive!" I hit the dashboard of his car, excited as I saw the guard running towards us.
We exited the school and I breathed a quick sigh of relief.
"Well, that was intense." Liam spoke up, breathing heavily.
"Lemme call the others." I said, removing my phone from my pocket. I dialled Liz's number from memory. I asked them where were they and she said everyone already had gone home.
"They're home."
"So what do you want to do?" Liam asked.
"Go home and crash." I said.
"Me too. Let's crash together." Blaze said, smirkingly.
"I don't mind." I shrugged and my body tingled.
"So, you're already at that stage where you go to each other's houses to nap?" Damien asked, curiosity lacing his voice.
"Duh." Liam said. "They're very close." He sang out, extending they 'y' in very.
We dropped everyone off and then we returned home. Going straight to the basement, I laid down, Blaze joining me. Within minutes, I fell asleep.
I got up and looked around. Blaze had already left, I guess. Climbing upstairs, I saw him talking to mum.
"Hey" I said in a raspy voice.
"Hey Nov, gotta zayn. See ya soon."
(AN// Gotta zayn: Gotta leave {Directioners would know})
"Bye." I gave him a hug, shutting the door after him.
"Al, I want to talk to you." Mom said.
"Yes?"
"I want you to know what had actually happened that year since you have already asked me so many times."
"What are you talking about?" I asked her uncertainly.
"Those dreams you get? They are not just your imagination." She stated.
"What?"
I'm not sure if I actually wanted to know.
"When you were six, you were kidnapped. They worked with your dad and at that time, we weren't this rich. Your dad owed them money but he couldn't manage to pay them back. As revenge, they took you aways from us one day when we were at the park. You wandered around to find your lost ball and didn't return. We came to look for you but you were gone."
Tears were filling her eyes and I had never seen my mum cry.
"We looked for hours. All around the city too. That night, your dad got a call from a blocked ID and they said they had you. We were so scared. The police couldn't track them own, they kept on changing the locations. They had you for three months."
At this point, both my mum and I were crying.
"They hit you, abused you. This one time, as soon as we go the call we went to the police and they tracked you down. By the time we reached, you were unconscious. You were hit hardly on the back of your head and were bleeding so bad. When you woke up, you couldn't remember anything."
A sob escaped her lips as she recollected the events and continued with a wavering voice, "The doctors said the blow to your head was pretty harsh which caused amnesia. You couldn't even recognise us, your own parents. It took you months to re learn everything but I was so thankful because you didn't have to remember all the traumatic experience you had to go through."
"Is that why dad has been distant with me?"
"He thinks it's his fault." Mum spoke up, clearing my doubts.
"But it's not."
I was shocked. I was so close to having a panic attack. This all was so overwhelming. I quickly rushed to my room. This was too much to take in at once. My mom called after me but I ignored her. I closed and locked my door and slid against it.
So most of the dreams were flash backs, not nightmares, as Lily suggested.
I tried to calm myself down. I traced infinity sign on my wrist in a slow motion to calm myself down. It helped. Once I was able to breathe normally, I picked up my phone and called up Blaze. He picked up on the second ring.
"Hey Nov." He said.
"I know what happened. Why do I get the nightmares, I get."
"I'm coming over."
It was around 11PM but that didn't stop him anyways.
Next, I called up Liam and told him the exactly same thing what I had told Blaze. He said he was on his way over.
I washed my face, freeing it of all tears and went down. My parents were down and I informed them the boys are coming over.
"At this time?!" My dad exclaimed.
"Yes dad." I said.
"Keep the door open." He ordered and I nodded in acceptance.
As I turned back to go upstairs, I turned around and walked towards dad.
I hugged him and whispered, "It wasn't your fault."
"I'm so sorry, princess. I hate it that you went through that."
All the bad blood between my dad and I was cleared but that didn't make me feel any better. I rushed back to my room and three myself on the bed, the sheets muffling my whimpers.
Don't cry, Nov. You have to stay strong. You need to.

I'm sorry that the chapters are short but my exams are just around the corner!
Hey guys. So that infinity trick really helps. Here:
This is calm your self:
Trace the infinity sign (∞) with your finger on their back, hand or wherever feels right for them. Take 3 seconds to draw the left circle of the infinity sign and ask them to breathe in while you do this. Then stop for a second, and ask them to hold their breath – but just for a second. Now take three seconds to draw the right circle, and ask them to breathe out while you do it. Try to make it a fluid, relaxing movement – left circle for 3, hold for one, right circle for three.
All the love,
Pia xx
