3 - I Miss Us
"Ready?" a soothing low voice spoke by your ear, his hands holding your arms to help guide you from behind due to the blindfold placed over your eyes.
"I swear Jeon Jungkook, if you drove us two hours just to get to some random ramen restaurant you found online..."
"What will you do?" he asked teasingly, as you could imagine his lips spreading out into a smile to reveal his bunny teeth.
"I'll... I don't know."
You let out a sigh, unable to think of a reason as he chuckled.
What would you do? You'd end up happily eating the ramen with him after scolding him for a bit. But either way, you knew you'd end up enjoying your time with your significant other instead.
"Well, you'll just have to find out. Ready?"
You could feel his fingers take hold of the knot that kept the blindfold tied around your head. You nodded as an answer, your mind restless to find out what the mysterious destination he had been bugging you about was.
Slowly, the blindfold came undone once he tugged on the end, your eyes blinking to adjust to your surroundings.
Your gaze landed on an open field, your brows furrowing in confusion at the sight of the dark view, considering it was quite past sunset.
You turned to your lover, gazing up at him with a questioning look, only to see him grinning.
"Look up." he spoke, his eyes twinkling amidst the dark.
You complied, letting your eyes travel up towards the night sky, catching sight of the endless view of stars.
Your breath was caught in your throat, your lips parting as you took a moment, maybe even more, to register the scene that stared down at you.
It was beautiful. Truly beautiful.
You felt your hand being held, followed by him clearing his throat. You let your gaze travel back to the man that stood before you.
He smiled down at you with a soft look in his eyes, his hands warm while they held your own. He took a moment to look down at his feet before meeting your eyes again, a sense of nervousness surrounding him.
"Are you alright?" you asked with furrowed brows, taking a step forward to cup his face and admire him closer for anything that was bothering him.
He nodded his head, his lips curving up further as his eyes sparkled under the glimmer of the stars. Your hands slipped to fall onto his shoulders, a questioning look in your eyes as his Adam's apple bobbed.
He took your hands once again, your eyes meeting. You grew more confused.
"Stop looking at me like that," he chuckled nervously as your brow raised further.
"You're worrying me."
"There's nothing to be worried about, I'm fine." he assured.
"Are you sure?"
You reached out to cup his face again, but he stopped you, taking your hands and holding them to prevent you from doing anything.
"Stop," he spoke with a grin.
"You stop. You're acting funny," you responded. He only let out a chuckle, his eyes forming into mini moons.
"Just give me a second." he took a deep breath and let his face relax as he closed his eyes. A smile formed either way as soon as his eyes fluttered open to see you.
You gave him a questioning look.
"Stop it!" he giggled, trying to prevent the smile that ached to escape.
"I'm not doing anything!" you protest with a smile.
"I just..." he looked elsewhere for a second before turning his eyes back to you, taking a deep breath once again, clearly to calm his nerves. He cleared his throat again. "I want to tell you something."
"Okay." you answer curiously. "Did we drive all the way here for you to tell me this something?"
"Y-yes-I mean, no?" he gulped, hesitating, "Maybe? Just stop talking and let me finish, alright?"
"Fine." you spoke with a giggle, shutting your mouth to let him continue.
He cleared his throat, his eyes dropping to your held hands.
"So," he began, nervousness evident in his voice, "we've been together for quite a few years now, six years to be exact. Those six years were the best six years of my life, and it's all because of you. You were always there to support me and tell me everything will be alright when some days didn't seem bright at all. You were there to laugh with me, and cry with me, even drive hours away to try out some new ramen place I randomly found."
You smiled up at him as he spoke, watching as he found it difficult to maintain eye contact from the nerves.
"I just want to say that I love you, and I truly mean it. I know I say it often, but I want you to know that I say it all the time because there's no day I go without loving you. I wouldn't be who I am now without you." his doe eyes locked with yours, his hands squeezing your own. "I can't see a future without you. I always want you to be the one that I wake up to, and the one that I cuddle to bed. And I know that we agreed to do this once we're done school, but I can't wait another year to officially call you mine."
His one hand let go of your's as your brows stitched together in confusion, your heart hammering in your chest as his hand slipped into his pocket and pulled out a small navy box. You watched him kneel before you, fumbling with the box for a moment before finally opening it to reveal a single diamond ring.
He reached for your hand, his eyes looking into your own as your other hand flew to your mouth.
"I want to watch the stars with you every day as we grow old and raise a family of our own. So Y/n," he swallowed before smiling up at you, noticing the tears that had reached your cheeks. "will you marry me?"
You nodded vigorously, answering with a "Yes,"
His grin only grew at your answer, standing up to tower over you. You jumped into his embrace, wrapping your arms around his neck as you let your tears of happiness stream down your face. He held you tightly, letting out a relieved breath of air before chuckling by your ear.
"I need to put the ring on before I drop it."
You giggled at his statement, finally prying yourself off of him with a wide grin and tear stained cheeks.
He took the ring out of the box carefully before reaching for your hand, giving you a quick glance before slipping it onto your ring finger. He brought your hand up to kiss your knuckles.
You cupped his face afterwards, connecting your lips into a deep kiss as his arms pulled you into his embrace.
"I love you," he muttered.
Your eyes flew open as you got startled awake, blinking several times to let your eyes adjust to the dark room. You reached for your phone on your nightstand, squinting at the brightness of your screen as you checked the time.
4:03 A.M
You placed it back down and glanced over your shoulder to see Jungkook's back still turned to you on the opposite side of the bed, clearly asleep. You let out a sigh before turning back and laying your head back on your pillow.
It was just a dream.
A memory living in your dreams. Just like dreams once lived in your memories. Dreams of living a life just like your memories forever.
Your lips pursed as you let your eyes shut, trying to stop yourself from thinking any further, but it felt impossible. Your whole being yearned to live those days once again one more time. Where you were still young and loved. Where your heart wasn't left cracking on its own.
But you were twenty eight now. Not old, but old enough to miss being young.
Was it possible to go back? And maybe, just maybe, change everything around so you weren't left living the life that you currently were?
Would you risk all the happiness that you lived through, to live happiness that isn't guaranteed at your current age?
What would've happened if you just said no, and didn't marry him? There could have been so many possibilities, yet the first few years of your marriage just felt like a dream come true.
Would you let it go just because you weren't happy now?
It felt wrong thinking of such things, but you couldn't help it. You kept wondering how different your life could've been. Maybe you could've been happier. Maybe it could've all turned out worse. There was no telling. Just possibilities clouding your mind.
All you knew was that you wanted those days back. An impossible wish that you knew would never come true.
Or so you thought.
