11 - We Broke Up
“Y/n!”
You heard the loud call of your name from across the restaurant once you stepped foot, watching a familiar face you hadn’t seen in ages wave you over. Giving a small wave back, you flashed a smile as you neared the group, your heart slightly pounding.
It had been so long.
So, so long since you had last seen the people that you now neared as if you had just seen them yesterday. As if you were still best friends; like life had never gotten in the way.
The thought left a bitter taste in your mouth, but you force yourself to bury it within the depths of your mind.
You’re in the past now, and have to act like how you used to.
Like best friends. Without the betrayal of some.
“We couldn’t get started, without you.” Jimin took a seat just as you did next to him, his smile bright as the other three sitting around the table greeted you.
“Where’s Jungkook?”
You almost rolled your eyes.
Of course she would ask. If not her, then who?
“Is he even coming?" Namjoon looked at you curiously, following Jia's question, but you couldn't look him in the eye.
"I'm not sure." you mutter, glancing down at the table as they all now stared at you, surprised.
"Did something come up?" Jimin asked this time, and you nibble on your lip.
Their questions were overwhelming you, as if seeing them for the first time in ages wasn't making you nervous enough.
"There he is!"
Namjoon, Jimin, and Hoseok stood up, their chairs screeching against the wood of the floors as they did.
“Hey man, long time no see.” Jimin reached over the table for a fist bump, his hand lingering in the air as Jungkook did nothing but stare at it for a moment, his eyes round. A second later he was finally bumping his fist to his.
“Yeah, it’s uh, been a while.”
Namjoon patted his back, and Hoseok sent him one of his famous smiles before the four of them settled down, Jungkook taking the chair at the other end of the table.
“You guys aren’t sitting together?” Hoseok spoke up, his eyes trailing from him to you, and flickering back. All other six eyes followed and you remained quiet, staring down at the napkin in front of you.
“Clearly something happened,” Namjoon added with concern. “You guys okay?”
You slowly nodded, still avoiding all eyes, and Jungkook replied with a dry “Yeah,”, then silence.
“How about we change the topic?” Jimin jumped in after an awkward few moments, and you finally locked eyes with him in appreciation.

You wanted him to stop staring at you. He had to stop, you were desperate for him to, because with each look, the fire within you only grew stronger. And you didn’t want that right now. You just wanted to enjoy the moment with your friends that you had lost connections with several years ago, and not think about the fight with your husband that had happened two days ago.
But he was still staring at you.
Even though you caught him at least twice, and he would avert his attention elsewhere. Even if you sent him a glare, his eyes still found you.
You brought a sausage to your lips with furrowed brows, staring at the plate in front of you.
“Y/n?” your head snapped up at the call of your name by Jimin who sat next to you, all eyes on you once more. You swallowed right after and looked at him surprised.
“I asked if you made your decision yet for uni.”
“Oh,” you sat up in your seat and slowly nodded, making sure to avoid a certain gaze from the end of the table. “Yeah, I did. I’m going to Pohang.”
Chopsticks slammed onto the table, a chair screeching against the wooden floors. Jungkook was on his feet, his jaw locked with dark orbs that pierced.
He looked like he was about to say something, but instead his tongue poked the inside of his cheek, holding himself back.
“I’m going to get some air.” he spoke and was soon walking out the restaurant doors.
All eyes that were following him were then turning to you.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, trying to keep your heart from jumping out your throat. Breathing suddenly felt harder than ever before.
“We broke up.”
The words slipped through your lips and you were hugging your torso now, trying to tie your emotions down.
“That explains it,” Namjoon muttered, his eyes soft as he gazed your way, along with everyone else.
Jimin placed a hand on your shoulder, concern filling his gaze.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
You slowly shook your head, blinking your tears away.
What could you even tell them? They would think you’ve gone insane.
Jia stood up from her seat.
“I’ll go and check up on him.”
And you said nothing as you watched her meet him outside, until you saw them half an hour later, sitting along a bench outside the restaurant, her hands cupping his face and lips firmly locked with his.
