A Day Out

Emma had chosen me a light blue swimsuit that fit perfectly. I was so happy when she showed it to me but as always I didn't show it. Miss Peregrine had packed our lunch for the day with sandwiches, salad, apple crumble and some drinks. It was to be a perfect afternoon with swimming some games and enjoyment, but it wasn't meant to be.

"Look it fits perfectly! Now let's head down to the others they'll be waiting for us" Emma said.

"You'll enjoy this I tell you that. It's be awhile since we've all been out to the beach, well yes we do get to go out on our daily walks but this, this is very special. So enjoy it while it lasts." Emma gave me a beaming smile

"Thanks a lot Emma, for everything you've done so far" I said

"It's alright! I feel glad that you feel welcomed here" she smiled

"But enough of this let's get going! We don't want to be late for the other's sake" Emma said.

Running down the hallway to the staircase and down we came to see the others already in their bathing suits, well that is apart from the twins of course

"Right everyone ready to go children?" Miss Peregrine said looking around at all the children nodding their heads up and down all in sink.

─────────
All was well walking to the beach, there were hundreds of different birds all flying along the cove to the cliff sides probably to feed their young.

Giving Emma's arm a soft pull she looked at me as I pointed to the birds that were flying overhead

"Ah yes you've seen them too, they're wonderful aren't they" Emma said

"They sure are" I said with a quiet tone

"Where here now" Miss Peregrine spoke up making all the chatter die down

I looked around the beach. It was pretty dull with some rocks spread here but at least it was sunny and has some sand

"If you're going into the water please don't go to where you can't touch the bottom. I don't want any troubles today please" Miss Peregrine warned all of us before we set off to do our own thing.

The children had brought their own equipment, tools for playing in the sand, beach pails, buckets all those kinds of things. While the older ones brought folding chairs and umbrellas to sit out in the shade away from the heat of the sun. I wasn't sure what to do, so I just followed Emma to the cliff side which was full of birds flying in and out of their nests

"I can see you've followed me over here. I take it you're not sure what to do?" Emma questioned me

I nodded my head

"If that's the case! I have something very exciting to show you. Now if you could just wait here for a second and I'll be right back" Emma said.

Emma walked over to a picnic basket, pulling out a long tattered rope, she walked over and handed it to me.

"This is going to be strange for you since it's your first time doing this but don't worry you'll soon get the hang of it" Emma smiled at me while she pulled the rope around her waist and into a loop, handing the rest to me.

"Here's what you need to do, pull the end of the rope around your waist like I did, make sure you wrap it around you a few times as you don't want to let go. When I keep rising just let some rope go in your hand but remember don't let it go completely." Emma said

"I promise I won't let go."

"Now this might seem a bit strange but as I said before you'll get used to it" Emma smiled to me

She bent down to her large black lead shoes and unbuckled them looking back to me as if asking if I was alright, I nodded back to her. She rose up into the air as if she were as light as a feather. As I said I would before I let the rope leave slowly out of my hands looking up at her and down to my hands. Emma rose all the way up to a nest that I couldn't see, it looked like she was reaching into it and pulled out something that made her hands move as she folded them over protecting whatever she had a hold of. "You can pull me down now Josephine!" she called out to me

I started pulling on the rope which slowly made Emma come down to the sandy beach below, she buckled up her shoes, opened up her hands and there was to my surprise a baby seagull

"Is that baby seagull?" I questioned.

"Not just an ordinary seagull but a Kittiwake. There actually called Chicks instead of baby seagulls" Emma smiled at me "I'll let you in on some facts I know about these birds here" Emma turned the little chick around in a circle, so I would see what it fully looked like. "This one as you can see" she points to the top of its tiny head

"This one looks to be just a month old, maybe even a bit younger.
But I can't tell you for certain that this is a month old as it is quite hard to distinguish it because of it's size. If it's big it should be a month old and if its small it would be a newborn"

"Well it's very cute Emma, but why did you take it away from it's nest and its parents!" I asked her in a still quiet voice

"Don't worry Josephine it's alright, this little chick we won't be taking with us. I'll be putting her back where she belongs and as for her parents they won't miss her. As soon as the loop resets it'll be as if we were never here"

"Well it's good that she'll be back with her parents but sad that she won't remember us" I said in a sad voice

"Yeah it will be. But we can always visit the little one anytime we like" Emma smiled at me.

"Yeah it will be. But we can always visit the little one anytime we like" Emma smiled at me.

"Right! I'll get the rope back around my waist, and then we can put this little one back"
