Introduction to SilverStar, and May's Life

The city of SilverStar is one of the largest communities in the Kingdom Hearth, a Kingdom with, surprisingly, no King, nor roylal family whatsoever, just a group of bickering old men trying to decide what Lord should take up the throne.  In  the mean time, they tried to find out how much money they, the descendents of the last Royal Council, could squeeze out of the poor, and how much suport they could get from the five Lords, and the three Ladies of the Kingdom.

The Council were effective enough in getting most of the money of the poor placed into their pockets, but because they took most of the normal tax that was supposed to go to the Eight(the Lords and Ladies), the most certainly did not win the efections of any one of them. So, one or two of them, the slightly more, nice, ones, at least to thoughts that help them get money, decided to run a group of companies that would provide the populace with basic needed things, with ought having the common sellers tax applied, just a small member fee, that when it eventually landed into the pockets of the lords and ladies, acuulated to quite a hefty sum.

Eventually almost all of the businesses had joined the Commen, the organization made by a couple of the Eight. Everything that they sold to members of the Commen was not recorded, and everything to outsides was. The fee, small enough for most, amounted to less than the tax fee they normally had to pay for selling, the tax they did pay was smaller, since most of the people they sold to were members themselves. Eventually the tax disappeared when the Council figured out that they were neve going to get the money they wanted, but the Commen remained, open to everyone.

One of the groups that joined the Commen, not as a business but as a fellow organization that supported and is supported by the Eight, though not heavily, is the Wiccian's Room, a small office for the magical people of the kingdom that wanted to keep in touch with others, and have a chance to learn. Sometimes a Wiccian will stay the night, or the week, as they travel, instead of enduring a place filed with curious, non magical people staring at them.

Sometimes a new born Wiccian is taken to the Wiccian's Room, the parents trying to get rid of the creature they did not understand. The group adopted the child off to a family that does not care about if someone has magic or not, and that was that, they no longer were focused on the child.

This very thing happened to a young girl, May Rose-Thorn. She was dropped off, taken, and then given to the River family. The River's were a middle aged couple with one child, a girl only two years old. They did not care that she was magical, they just cared that they now had a full house, a full life, and almost empty money pouches.

Seven years pass, and May and Marry, the River's biological daughter, were not on the best of terms. Marry had told May that she was not as pritty as the name May suggested, and that she should get a different name. May did not understand. She ignored the coment, but latter that day, decided, in the childish obliviance of the outcome, to tell her parents, the River's. She knew that they were not her actual blood family, but she did know that they were nice people, generally.

"Papa," May said, as they sat down for dinner.

"Yea, May?" he said, his brown eyes crinkling around the edges as he smiled slightly at get.

"Marry said that I am not as pritty as a May should be, what does that mean?" she asked, curious as to what a may would look like.

Sara, their mother, frowned, and Samual, the father, started to frown. Marry, old enough to understand the concept of mean, and nice, began to fidget in her seat, tugging at the muddy hem of her dress.

"Marry, why did ye sey this?" Samual asked, his voice not raised, but stern.

"Well, it's true, she is just a red, red, red witch!" Marry, yelled, beginning to cry. She did not mean it, but May thought she did, and she started to get red in the face, like Marry had pointed out, anger and tears bubbling up.

What does being a witch have to do with how I look? " May asked Marry.

Marry, started to wail.

"All the others at school told me to! They, th-they said that all witches were ugly bat women that deserved horrid names!" she cried. Marry got up, and ran to her room.

The River's looked at each other, then they turned to May.

"She did noh' mean it, May, it was the others pressurin' her to do et." Samual said.

Sara slapped him.

"It's her falt too! " she said to him.

"Anyway, May, you don't look like an ugly bat, and you never will. " Sara said to May.

"If I had a different name would they stop bothering Marry?" May asked.

"It may, but it may not, May, you can change it if you want." Sara said.

"How bout Rose, in stead of, May, yer cheeks alway' are red." Samual said, smiling like he just maid the biggest joke of the century.

"Rose, yes, Rose!" Sara said.

"May just blinked, and said good night.

It was her middle name, or part of it, after all.
