"We've been here for four days, Roman! Four fucking days! We're never gonna get out!" Virgil yelled, storming back and forth while continuously messing with his sleeves in front of Roman who was sitting down on a rock, staring at his phone that had died earlier that day. He was worried for Logan, he hoped the man wouldn't actually come here and search for them himself, an actual threat they received yesterday.

"We will, Virgil" Roman replied, he would sound more confident but this has gone on for little over two hours and honestly? Roman was tired. Virgil told him last night of his anxiety and how much it was heightening the longer they were here - Roman has supported him to the best of his ability but one; he was extraordinarily tired, two; he had never dealt with someone with anxiety before and three; he was getting a little annoyed. Sue him.

"Think rationally for once! No one escapes this place-"

"Virgil" Roman whispered quietly.

"No, Roman! We're gonna die here before we-"

"Virgil!" Roman rose his voice, standing up from his rock quick and taking a few steps closer to the man. "Listen to me; if I don't get out of here my friend might do something stupid and I won't let him do that again. I don't care what you think, I'm getting out of here, with or without you" he didn't mean to get so annoyed but he was tired, hot and concerned for his friend who he couldn't contact anymore.

He knew Deceit would keep him safe but for how long?! He ran a hand through his hair and turned around to pick up His bag while Virgil was frozen to the spot, shocked that Roman shouted and even further shocked at what he had said.

"So what, you'd just leave me here?" He asked accusingly after a moment and Roman sighed, pressing a hand to his face in exasperation.

"No, of course not" his voice lowered to something soft, "but we need to keep moving, this lake will end eventually, I promise, please just...let me get to him, please" he was begging now and Virgil suddenly felt guilty but he couldn't control his anxiety that told him there was no escape. At least for now he'd try to keep it contained.

Nodding gently he grabbed his stuff too, walking beside Roman, the two staying in an awkward silence for quite some time but neither could think of anything to say. They were focused on other things and conversation didn't seem like their top priority right now. Weak from eating berries and a single rabbit Roman caught (by accidentally falling on it) they weren't fit to even walk but they would much prefer it than starving to death in the middle of nowhere.

"Sorry for...shouting" Roman eventually murmured. "It was unnecessary, you were panicked and I handled it badly" he frowned, usually not good at admitting he was wrong but in this moment he knew he had to.

"It-it's fine, Ro, don't worry about it" Virgil shrugged if off and they didn't speak anymore on the matter.

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine" Roman began to sing, low and quiet but Virgil heard it, a smile drifting onto his lips as he recalled the tune instantly. "None of us are dying yet, Ro, stop singing that" he joked and Roman managed a smile along with a light chuckle.

"My mother used to sing me it" Roman explained, "to calm me down when I was a child, it...still works to this day, of course she can't sing it to me anymore but..."

Virgil looked up at him curiously, "Why?"

Roman's eyes slowly dropped, "her husband-my father he.." Roman swallowed, speaking shakily. "Did a lot to her, more psychological damage than anything...she can barely remember who she is most days" and Virgil watched Roman's eyes turn cold at the thought of his dad.

"And he got away with it" he chuckled bitterly, "until he died that is, karma really kicked his ass"

Virgil frowned, hiding his hands in his pockets. "I'm...sorry Ro, that's horrible"

He shrugged again, "I don't like looking at the past, can't change it, so might as well look to the future and see what it holds" he threw his arms up a bit, ending the topic of conversation there quite obviously so Virgil didn't ask anymore from him. He was curious but he could fill in most the blanks himself.

"Where d'you think we'll end up?" Virgil asked to try and get Roman's mind off of what he had just explained. He tilted his head in thought, "I guess a road? Hopefully we can follow it to someone's house or a cafe, I need to charge my phone and call a taxi" Virgil nodded in agreement, his phone dead too when Patton kept texting him if he was okay. He didn't blame the man, he was extremely worried but now he couldn't talk to Patton at all. Or anyone for that matter.

"I still can't believe you thought I pushed you" Roman brought up, mostly jokingly, to brighten the mood. Virgil rolled his eyes.

"I told you I wasn't thinking right, plus you look like the type" he grinned when Roman choked on offended noises, holding a hand to his head.

"And what exactly does that mean!?" He exclaimed and Virgil could tell he was putting it on. "You look like a murderer, dude, sorry I don't make the rules" and Virgil laughed when Roman crossed his arms and went into a lengthy discussion about how he certainly did not look like a murderer which ended abruptly when Virgil shoved him playfully.

"How dARE yoU!" Roman's voice broke as he screeched, chasing after Virgil who was close to doubling over in laughter, cheeks red eyes rimmed with tears from how much he was cackling over something so silly.

"You're a murderer, Roman!" Virgil called teasingly and Roman groaned.

"Am not!"

"Are too!"

"Am not!"

"Are too!"

"Am not!"

"Am t-wOAH-!" Virgil yelped as his foot caught and he fell onto his stomach, wind escaping him but other than that he was fine oh wait Roman just fell on top of him.

Both let out a groan and Virgil swatted at him. "Don't you dare groan, you landed on me!" Virgil emphasised, kicking at Roman who used his arms to push himself up, looming over Virgil who rolled onto his back, glaring up at him childishly.

"You fell in front of me!" Roman defended unable to stop a splitting grin from encompassing his face, much like Virgil below him.

"And you fell on me!"

Roman huffed, "guess we're even" he spoke with a pout and Virgil snorted.

"Guess we are" he replied and they went silent, staring at each other for a few silent moments. "This is usually where the couple is split away so they can't kiss" Virgil commented and Roman smiled, ever so slowly leaning down closer to his face, the tips of their noses delicately brushing together.

"Would you rather we roll away and pretend this never happened?" He offered and Virgil thought it over for a fraction of a second.

"Nope"

Roman seemed a little surprised at his sudden response but still smirked wickedly.

"I'll have you know I'm a great kisser" because of course he'd boost his on ego in this moment.

"Oh?" Virgil hummed, "prove it"

And prove it he did.

Their lips connected and Virgil melted, hands loosely wrapping around his neck, leaning up closer to let their kiss last longer. He didn't expect he'd end up kissing this man but he couldn't say he regretted it.

"I think this forest is doing shit to us" Virgil breathed out when Roman leaned away, his eyes sparkling. "I think we're insane, but being insane with you doesn't sound so bad - especially with those soft lips of yours" he flirted cheesily and Virgil scoffed, pushing at his chest but nothing too strong that made Roman believe he was serious. "Whatever, and you're an average kiss, at best" Roman gasped loudly and Virgil threw his head back to laugh, barely listening to Roman when his eyes landed on something.

"BEAR!" He screamed which made Roman let out the most girliest scream Virgil had ever heard, jumping away and dragging Virgil up from the floor too, holding him behind while searching wildly for the animal. Virgil almost collapsed he was laughing so hard which would make Roman whine at him but when he saw a road his heart stopped.

"Road, road, road!" He repeated, shaking Virgil who nodded. "Yeah, I know! That's why I yelled bear, to get your attention" he grinned slyly. Roman gave him a deadpan look.

"I hate you"

"The feelings mutual"

And as the two walked down the road to the nearest house or cafe the two returned to their usual banter they shared, often sending each other softer, more genuine smiles, ones filled with more than just happiness - one you wouldn't send to just a friend.

A few days later Logan returned from Britain with Deceit as fast as he could, currently Roman was at home with Virgil sitting next to him on the couch, explaining the best strategies for Monopoly when the front door burst open and Logan appeared in front of them in a moment.

"Lo-OW!" Roman grabbed his arm after Logan slapped him but a second later they were hugging, Logan hiding his face in his neck, clinging onto him tight.

"I'm so mad at you" Logan whispered. Roman smiled.

"And I'm so glad to see you"

Virgil glanced over at the doorway, noticing the man standing there to be Deceit.

"Hey, don't worry man" Virgil called to him.

"I'm mad Roman survived the fall too" and all three men were laughing while Roman made his famous 'offended noises'.
