Relationships aren't their thing - Logan x Remus

The mind had become a very peaceful, serene place when the sides all accepted each other, no matter if they were 'dark' or 'light'. In fact they stopped referring to themselves with those terms completely, now they were all simply 'sides' to Thomas, helping him in their own way. While others helped more than some, it didn't mean they were any less valued, and certainly not as important to Thomas' overall being and personality.
The sides who benefited most from this was Roman and Remus, now they weren't at each other's throats they finally had time to be brothers again. They were twins after all, they should have that close loving bond, and now they did. They shared secrets and brotherly affections like any normal set of siblings, they'd prank others, each other, and genuinely enjoy each other's company. It was wonderful for them and wonderful to see from the other sides perspective, especially Deceit who loved Remus in a very similar way, not as brothers but as two unites of a family.
Deceit would protect Remus to the end, his ride or die if you will, so to see him so happy in the recent months made him extremely happy too. And his overall excitable personality brought a new, brighter, feeling to the mindscape - and all the sides liked it very much.
Yes, he was still very chaotic, and often said things that would make the most stoic of persons uncomfortable - but that was who he was, and trying to repress that would not only be unfair on him but it would affect Thomas in a bad way. So, they accepted it, and have become quite numb to it at this point - but not entirely. Remus still enjoyed getting a rise out of them by saying the most weirdest of things.
And now that everyone was comfortable, feelings have arisen. And two sides in particular didn't feel so ashamed anymore. That being Deceit and Patton, the two had given each other lingering gazes for quite awhile before everyone became happy with each other - but they both knew it wouldn't work out. Now? Now they could be happy, and they were. It made everyone else happy too, seeing Patton laugh so vibrantly when Deceit would come up out of nowhere, hug him from behind and whisper a silly pun into his ear. It was fucking beautiful, none of them would ever get bored of seeing it.
The two cuddled whenever they got the chance, on the couch, in their bed, on a chair, or while standing for fucks sake. They were so in love it was sickening, but in the best way possible. They knew everything about each other, and after Patton became best friends with Blosson, Deceit's snake, Deceit knew he wanted to be with Patton forever, and they would be, they both wanted that - so much.
While those two admitted their feelings pretty early on at the start of everyone being accepted, it took another two sides a little longer do to the same. Roman and Virgil. Now their friendship had been quite on and off, they were in a like-dislike sort of situation until recent and even then they argued and bickered, but nothing ever too serious, neither would allow it - because now the mere idea of hurting the other tore them up inside, but they both were too anxious to tell, too self-conscious to believe their feelings would be returned.
And props to them both, they hid it very well, no one suspected a thing - which maybe made it worse for them as neither had a push from a friend telling them to do so, to win the man of their dreams. In this case 'side' of their dreams. Still, in the end it worked out, especially the way they started dating. A simple afternoon of the two hanging out turning into a relationship just as adorable as Patton and Deceit - specifically they started talking about crushes, neither could remember how, and their conversation went a little like this;
"I have a crush" admitted Roman, who leaned on his bed frame, opposite Virgil who was pressed up against his closet comfortably.
"Oh..." Virgil glanced away, "same" he shrugged, then winced. Roman was sure to ask who.
"Oh" Roman awkwardly played with the carpet, the two sitting in very uncomfortable silence. "So...who is it?" Virgil asked, Roman shrugged. "Who's yours?" Roman returned, to which Virgil, and you will never guess, shrugged.
Then Roman pressed a hand to his face. "We like each other, don't we?"
Virgil pressed his lips together, "yeah-uh-yeah...I think we do"
The two glanced at each other and instantly burst into laughter, and that was how they became boyfriends.
With Deceit and Patton being like the parents of the family, all lovey-dovey whenever possible, it seemed impossible how they didn't become sick of each other - but deep down the two knew they never would. Seeing the other made an unremovable smile light their face, especially when they were gone for an elongated amount of time. Virgil and Roman being the two opposites in love, one adoring grand gestures of affection, other preferring simple cuddles and movie nights, they would embrace either or, as long as they were together. The picturesque couple one might imagine to have, pinned as 'high school sweethearts' because truly that was what they were. Their relationship was short yet a seemingly lifetime long.
Two were left.
Remus and Logan.
It wasn't much of a surprise, was it? Logan was Logic, he'd regard emotions with disdain and much prefer to work and keep Thomas at optimal health then ever focus on a relationship. The mere idea made him shrink back in disgust. No, that wasn't him at all.
And Remus? Well, he was Remus. Intrusive Thoughts. The dark side of creativity. That chaotic ball of energy would never have the time to focus on love, feelings and romance. He was too busy creating ideas most people would regard as sick and twisted while he adored each one. No, that wasn't him at all either.
And maybe that was what brought them together.
It started with how any friendship starts; spending time together. With Deceit and Patton so infatuated by the other, and Roman and Virgil spending so much time together they may as well forget everyone else exists, that leaves Remus very bored most of the time. More often than not he'd go to the Imagination, conjure up villages and reek havoc within, but even that gets boring after awhile, and when it does Remus knew he was fucked.
With no one to turn to other than the nerd, he did so with a mischievous smirk stuck to his face. Finding the nerd wasn't so hard, after discovering he wasn't in his room Remus spotted him in the library, slowly walking past the tall and long bookshelf in search for new reading material to quench his needs. Logan wasn't a social butterfly, not at all - being by himself or in quiet spaces was always a preferred place for him to be in, so he doesn't exactly care most the other sides were busy with their lovers, in fact he found it rather sweet, but beneficial. The whole aura of happiness has affected Thomas in the best way possible and has made his recent work ethic tremendous.
Sensing the presence of a nearing side, Logan glanced over his shoulder briefly, spotting Remus gliding over towards him with that look of his - Logan sighed and turned back forward, he knew he was in for a long, annoying ride.
"Nerdy wolverine!" He giggled brightly, leaning on the bookcase without a care for the books at all. "How did I know I'd find you here?"
Logan rolled his eyes and continued his search, "possibly because I'm the only one here with a taste for classic literature" he responded to which Remus giggled again, he absolutely adored insults, especially when listening to ones directed at not only himself but a bunch of people. Besides, he took most insults in stride, sucking them up as if they were compliments. To him, they were. Being called demented was just another way he knew he was doing his job right.
"I'm bored" Remus' mood then changed, an overly dramatic pout on his lips, trailing after the nerdy side. "Everyone's busy fucking their butt-buddies!" He exclaimed, which they certainly were not, Logan knew this but wouldn't correct him, the amount of times he's heard that sort of behaviour occur in the past would make him believe it was the main activity.
"Then entertain yourself" Logan replies as if it were that simple, tugging on the spine of a book that seemed interesting. Remus groaned and neared him still, now that Logan had stopped he had the chance to get real close, which for some reason didn't bother Logan at all. In fact anything Remus did didn't bother him one bit. Maybe he could get annoying but other than that...nothing. Remus didn't know how to feel about it.
"But I can't! I've tried and I can't! Murdering people all the time isn't fun!" He whined like a baby, Logan didn't even raise an eyebrow, just carried on reading the book's description. "What do you want me to do?" He asked instead, deciding that yes, he would read this book before looking up and meeting Remus' gaze.
His eyes glistened, "entertain me" he replied simply and Logan drew his eyebrows together. "Entertain you how?"
And honestly Remus hadn't thought that far. He hummed, then in a flash he flicked his wrist towards the side, a knife shooting out and plunging into Logan's stomach. The side didn't flinch, just looked down at the wound, then back up at Remus who cackled.
Taking out the knife, Logan conjured a white cloth and whipped it down, handing it casually to Remus who wasn't surprised to get such a reaction as a response.
"Ooo!" Remus chirped, following Logan closely as he moved across the library to the seating area. "May I carve patterns into your back?" Remus twirled the knife around as he suggested the idea, Logan sighed and looked at Remus. "Will you do it silently?"
Remus nodded, for extra affect pinched his fore-finger and thumb, then dragged them across his lips like he was sealing them shut. Logan sighed and sat down on a stool without a back, "fine, but try not to distract me" he replied, snapping his fingers to remove his shirt which appeared folded neatly beside him on the round table.
Remus made a noise of delight and sat behind him in the air, not bothered to get a chair. While Logan flipped the book open to the first page, Remus began to drag the knife down his skin, creating lines of blood that satisfied him very much, and entertained him to the fullest. He didn't actually think he'd stay silent but in the end, he did, so distracted by the art he was creating on Logan's bare back, he had never done this before and didn't realise how fun it would be, tearing the skin only for blood to ooze and drip out after.
And Logan? He was completely fucking relaxed which was quite surprising but most certainly reliving. The knife wasn't painful, but that didn't mean he couldn't feel anything. It felt weird, but at the same time...soothing. Which was certainly odd but the only way he could describe it. Throughout his book he's closed his eyes and basked in the feeling, of Remus' moving the sharp blade in such intricate ways to his long drags that were Logan's favourite.
Once Remus stopped, two hours later, that's when Logan finally focused on the world and down at his book, realising he only managed to read three pages.
"Done!" Remus chirped, the knife vanished and he took out his phone, snapping a picture of his handiwork for Logan to see. The side looked and nodded his head slightly. "Impressive, I am surprised you were able to make such a detailed image" he complimented which quietened Remus for a few seconds, he wasn't expecting that - he didn't even think Logan would want to see it.
Clicking his fingers Logan stopped the cuts from bleeding but didn't make them or the dried blood vanish straight away, instead he turned to Remus and asked for permission.
"It's not my body, Logan!" He chirped, "why're you asking me?"
"Well, if I were to fix it, would you want to do it again?" Logan suggested and Remus lit up like a star. That was how the two spent their afternoon, in Logan's bed, with Logan laying face first into his quilt and Remus sitting on his thighs, drawing whatever came to mind in his skin, then once finishing taking a picture and asking Logan to fix it for him to make a new one.
And they both adored every second.
That was the first real bonding moment the two had ever had, now whenever Remus was bored he'd go straight to Logan who wasn't always up for him piercing his skin to draw, but would try and help alleviate his boredom in other ways. Logan had discovered one day after reading out loud that Remus liked to listen, he never, ever read books - his attention span just wouldn't allow, but listening to Logan seemed so much easier.
It had only happened once though, and lasted half an hour before Remus was being dragged away by his brother who wanted to spend some quality time with him.
The next day Remus had returned to Logan's room, behind his back he carried a book, Alice in Wonderland. He had enjoyed the movie throughly, every adaption he had watched, so now he wanted to know if he'd like the book just as much. Logan was standing in front of his wall, gazing up at the board he had hung up, holding little notes, reminders and schedules.
"Salutations, Remus" Logan greeted without even turning around, he could sense Remus distinctly by now, easily able to separate him from the others. "Hello!" He replied in his high-pitched voice, laying on Logan's bed without permission and holding the book to his chest, not knowing how he should ask for Logan to read to him. He wasn't ashamed or embarrassed, not at all, he didn't know the definition of the words - he was just a little awkward.
"What brings you here?" Logan put the lid on his pen and walked to his bed, gazing at the book in Remus' grip. "Alice in Wonderland?" Remus nodded hurriedly and shoved the book in Logan's direction. "Read for me, nerdy wolverine!" He requested which surprised Logan a bit, then he remembered their short reading session yesterday and realised quickly Remus enjoyed it more than he first interpreted. Which made Logan feel a little warmer inside.
Happy to oblige, Logan perched at the end of his bed, making a soft noise when Remus sprung over to him and laid his head on his lap in an undignified manner, staring up at him with a grin. Not complaining, Logan sent him a smile and opened up to the first page, but before he could start Remus spoke.
"Mm..suits you"
Logan rose an eyebrow and looked down at him. "Huh?"
Remus grinned, poking his cheek. "Your smile! It suits you" he responded and Logan felt his cheeks warm, clearing his throat quickly. "Why, thank you.." he replied and began to read to try and ignore the new fluttery emotions in his stomach and chest.
Just like yesterday Remus relaxed and listened carefully, even with his eyes closed he caught onto every word, focused on everything Logan had said - not only did he want to keep up with the story but he also found listening to Logan very, very enjoyable.
And Logan couldn't help but smile throughout, he had never, ever seen Remus so relaxed before and it felt like a privilege to see, like it was...special. Special to him and Remus. He wouldn't want anyone else to walk in, and thankfully no one did, they managed to get halfway through the book before Remus finally had enough - he loved every second, don't get him wrong, but his attention span was running dry and he needed a new stimulus before he could continue laying down and listening.
"Can we do this again? We should do this again! We're doing this again, I'll be back tomorrow!" Remus called in a sing-song way, skipping out the room and closing the door behind him. Logan, who was still sitting on his bed, couldn't wipe the smile off of his face. Spending time with Remus was becoming quite enjoyable to him, and he liked that very much.
With Remus having someone he spent less and less time in the Imagination, more and more time with Logan. They'd get up to a lot of activities together, their favourite being the knife carving and reading out loud, because to them it was the most intimate. Although they wouldn't admit it, not to themselves either.
Other activities included shooting flying creatures down from the sky in the Imagination, digging up the ground to find weird and whacky bugs, doing all sorts of scientific experiments with Remus often being the - willing - guinea pig. They talked, joked, laughed - realised that spending so much time alone wasn't as great to when it was spent together.
Now it wasn't only Remus who sought the other, often Logan would go searching for Remus when he was bored and found his usual activities weren't as fun, or when he genuinely missed the side - and Remus? He was willing to spend time with him every single time. Because he couldn't think of anything he'd rather be doing.
One day Logan walked into Remus' room to see him scribbling away on a piece of paper, quite hurriedly too, with a small stack of papers beside him.
"What are you doing?" Logan questioned, peering over his shoulder at his work. Finishing the sentence, Remus threw the pen behind his shoulder, collected all the paper and shuffled it together haphazardly but still wore the brightest grin. "Writing! A story!" He clarified, about to put it in his collection when Logan stopped him.
"May I read it?"
He was silent for a bit, lips drawing together in confusion, no one had ever wanted to read his stories before - usually they were too gruesome, or insane, Logan would obviously know this yet he wanted to read anyway?
"Uh-yeah!" Remus turned and handed his work over enthusiastically, watching Logan read over the first few lines closely, brightening up when he saw how interested Logan already seemed to be. And that made Remus' heart explode - he had never experience something like this and he didn't want it to end.
And that was another activity added to the list. Logan reading Remus' work while he wrote more in the background. Never before had the side been too interested in his own work, when his thoughts and creative imaginations became an abundant collection in his mind he'd write and write to ease them all out - and it worked, and when Logan discovered this he was extremely happy about it.
"I am proud of you"
Remus spluttered a little. "Wh-what?"
"It is a healthy way for you to express your ideas without resulting in danger or repression. I am proud of you, and very excited to read more"
Remus wasn't used to this sort of treatment at all, especially when Logan seemed so genuine, honest. He really wanted to read whatever Remus writes and that was enough to make his heart weep.
And so the two, unaware of growing feelings, spent more and more time with each other, so much so they might as well have been dating. Their brief touches turned into hand holding, their waves of goodbye and hello turned into hugs, and their sitting on the bed together turned into cuddling and sharing the space to go to sleep for the night.
The secret within them didn't last long, Remus realised first, after understanding his heart just skipped a beat and began hammering in his chest irregularly simply because Logan smiled. Yep, he had fallen deep, and he was too far in to pull himself out - like he'd want to. The only problem was if Logan liked him back.
Which yes, he did. It took him a bit longer to come to terms with it, but after staring at Remus for admittedly a bit too long and wondering what it would be like to kiss him...yeah, it was tough to ignore his emotions after that.
And how did they reveal this to each other? Well, Remus wasn't one to shy away from this sort of thing, he wanted to know if Logan liked him back but hadn't really thought to ask until it was late one night, the two were laying in Logan's bedroom with the large window right beside them, curtains open revealing the night sky in it's beautiful glory, the stars shone brightly and colourfully, enough for the two to stare at for hours.
Then, Remus disturbed the silence. "I like you, nerdy wolverine"
"I like you too" Logan responded. Remus cackled lightly and moved where he laid his head on Logan's arm to the space beside his head, rolling on his side to stare at his face, Logan turned to face him too, interested in what he had to say. "Mm, really?" He cooed, "and horses eat humans alive"
Logan reached forward in concern, resting his hand on his, the idea that Remus thought he didn't like him made his heart ache. "I do like you, Remus"
The side cackled again, "I mean romantically, dork"
Logan's throat went dry. He...quite obviously didn't realise it was meant in that way but could pull it off like he did, right?
"I know.." he responded quietly, voice hushed with nerves. Now it was Remus' turn to go quiet, able to see Logan's face from the moons reflecting light, and saw that he was serious. And Remus was grinning, body beginning to buzz in joy at the fact his feelings were returned! Admittedly he didn't think they would be...they were great friends but he couldn't ever imagine Logan wanting someone like him, but he did! Which meant he could do this...
Lean forward, cup his cheek, pull him close and kiss his lips.
"Remus-" Logan breathed once pulling back, staring at the side in shock. He frowned, shifting back. "You didn't like it-" and Logan grabbed his hand hastily, "no! On the contrary..." he looked away, extremely embarrassed. "I really liked it, I've never...been kissed before" he admitted lowly and Remus couldn't help but coo, bring himself close and resting his palm on Logan's cheek again. The mere action alone made Logan melt in his hands. And Remus liked that very much.
"I'm your first kiss? How exciting! No one else gets to kiss you but me!"
Logan chuckled lightly, "I don't think anyone else would want to"
Remus frowned at the self deprecation, "so? They're missing out!"
Logan looked down shyly, oh how compliments made his entire being change from stoic, controlled to a flustered mess. But he wouldn't want anything different from Remus who stared at him with such an endearing grin Logan could stare at it forever.
"Butt-buddies?"
Logan chuckled lightly. "Boyfriends" he confirmed and Remus pulled him close into a cuddle, the two comfortably falling asleep like that, in each other's arms.
And they wouldn't want it any other way.
