Old friends 2 - Remus & Patton

11:55am

Have I been listening to the song 'Funky Town' on repeat-? yes, yes I have

Also no lyric chains pls ^^ 😌

"We have decided, to possibly benefit your mental health, that you can ask any of us any question you like - we will all-" Logan eyed Virgil as he emphasised this, "answer as truthfully-" he then glanced at Deceit who smirked, "as we can" he finished while staring at their host who glanced at all his sides, including Deceit and Remus, the latter of the two leaning on the lying side with a wicked grin across his lips.

Deceit didn't seem to mind at all, in fact one of his arms were wrapped around his waist.

"Okay.." Thomas dragged out, thinking for a moment what sort of question he would ask. "Uh...Roman?" The side looked up at him, heart sinking at the possibility that Thomas might ask about his wellbeing. He didn't exactly want to get into that around everyone...around anyone.

"What was it like when you and Remus...split? When I was a kid?"

And he relaxed, this wasn't as bad as he thought. Roman glanced at his brother who met his gaze, single eyebrow raised, wondering what Roman would say. The truth? Not likely. At least, not the full truth.

"It was...awkward, at first. Suddenly I was solely thinking of..." he eyes Remus wearily, "more family-friendly creative ideas, when we saw each other it was..." he thought back to that day, when they were kids, when Thomas developed to have two separate creativities. "We wanted to go back" Roman admitted with a soft chuckle, "we felt...better together, but we couldn't, we grew up and became used to it"

"We didn't grow up together" Remus corrected, silencing when his brother sent him a look, less of a glare more of a plea, a plea to not get into that.

"What do you mean?" Thomas asked and Roman sighed. "Virgil, Remus and Deceit grew up together, me Logan and Patton grew up together - separate ends of the minds that's all there is to it!" He said it too quickly for it to be just that but Thomas let it slide for now, he could ask more about it in the future, possibly Logan when he and his logical aspect were alone together.

"Uh-Patton!" The side smiled when he was called upon, "how have you been feeling recently?" And Patton went into how he, genuinely, has been doing better, especially after Remus showed up the first time and he finally learnt the full meaning of repression - he has been doing less of it and (not to toot his own horn) was pretty proud of himself. Once finished Thomas went around each side, asking question after question, the more he asked the more he felt like he couldn't stop - he was finally understanding more about himself and it felt amazing.

However one question ruined the moment. One question Thomas wished he never asked.

"What was it like growing up? For all of you?"

Remus hadn't been asked as many questions as the rest, and while this was for them all he jumped aboard answering before anyone else could. "Like Roman said" he grinned, "we were separated - while Roman and Logan had Patton me and Virgil had Deceit. We're still hurt that you left us, Virgie" Remus commented, shooting him a look.

Virgil huffed, "you know why I did-I didn't agree with either of you anymore. And you didn't exactly accept me" he mumbled the end but everyone heard.

"What made you think the 'light sides' would?" Deceit piped up and Patton frowned, "we do! Yeah it took awhile but we love Virgil and accept him!" He sent his emo son a smile which he managed to return shyly.

Remus cackled, "poor Thomas" he cooed, "this was supposed to be truthful for you but it seems...no one wants to tell you the truth"

"Remus" Roman warned but this time he wasn't listening.

"How about I enlighten you on what it was actually like to live in your mind?"

"Remus, stop it" Virgil hissed. "That's in the past-he's..." Virgil cut himself off, "we're all different now" he corrected and Deceit snorted, "so why is it such an issue we keep it hidden?"

"What hidden? What are you talking about?" Thomas asked, staring at his 'dark sides' who were both grinning delightfully.

"When me and Roman split-"

"Remus, stop" Roman demanded, louder and firmer. Remus huffed, turning to him with a glare in his eyes, "I'll never let you take him away from me!" Remus' voice changed to one of a child, a promise made by a desperate kid who sounded pained but determined. It silenced the room, especially Roman who visibly flinched at the sentence, ducking his head to stare at the ground.

"When me and Roman split it wasn't just awkward, it was painful, it was...agony" Remus admitted, finally standing up straight instead of leaning on Deceit. "We were confused, children needing help...and what did we get?" Remus turned to Patton who looked ashamed.

"We got your Morality"

"I'm sorry, Remus" he whispered but it was too late now.

"Your Morality who teared us apart! Why do you think the 'dark sides' and 'light sides' lived apart? Because of him!" Remus accused, throwing his arm into his direction. Patton covered his face, tears pricking his eyes.

"Remus!" Virgil growled, voice echoing and overlapping, "things are different now-!"

"You of all people should be siding with me, Virgil! Where did your insecurities come from? Certainly not me and Deceit. Couldn't be Logan for he isn't like that, nor Roman who was having his own troubles. Who hurt you, Virgil?"

The side's eyes flickered from Remus to Patton who didn't dare uncover his face, his breathing quickened and he shook his head, taking steps back until he was pressed to the wall. "Shut-shut up, Remus" Virgil begged quietly.

"Enough, Remus" Roman joined in. Logan licked his lips, "don't silence him" he murmured, avoiding eye contact with anyone. "Thomas deserves to know"

"Logan?!" Roman exasperated, Remus grinned in the nerd's direction.

"What are you saying?" Thomas asked his dark sides.

"We're telling you the truth, Thomas" Deceit replied, "Morality's standards for you were set since childhood. You had to be a good person, which meant ignoring and repressing us" he gestured to himself, Remus and Virgil. "Which meant tearing Roman and Remus away from each other as soon as they split. He was having a tough time with creativity, half of him good, half of him not- he didn't fit in. I wonder if that's why Roman is oh so insecure" Deceit then looked in his direction with a wicked smirk.

"He teared Roman and Remus apart, brothers, two kids who were terrified of losing each other. Patton didn't feel sympathy, guilty maybe but he focused on you...you were becoming better the more he repressed so he carried on and on until Roman and Remus had a permanent scar, until they could barely look at each other in the face-!"

"Shut up!" Patton screamed, tears pouring from his eyes. "Shut up shut up shut up!" His voice raised louder and louder, throwing his arm in Deceit's direction, as soon as he did the sides eye's rolled to the back of his head and he collapsed to the ground, the other side's gasping and taking a step away from Patton who quivered where he stood, staring at Deceit's body fearfully.

"You...haven't done that in awhile" Remus commented, "what...did you do, Patton!?" Thomas worried, hands shaking, not knowing whether to go to Deceit's side to try and help him or just stand there unmoving in case Patton did the same to him...

"He repressed a side. He can do that to anyone he wants. We're all familiar" Remus explained, staring at Patton who sobbed silently into his hands, sinking out the room as quick as that.

"Roman?" Remus murmured, the creative side looked to his brother, to Thomas, then at Logan and Virgil who both looked...lost. Horrified, too. They didn't think Patton would ever do that again, not since childhood.

Roman closed his eyes and sighed in defeat, "he's right, Thomas" he whispered. "He split me and my brother apart as soon as you developed us into two separate aspects. We were lost and...hurt. Our confusing emotions were fuelled against each other until, like Deceit said, we could barely look at each other anymore"

Remus scooped up Deceit from the floor, one arm around his waist, the other holding Deceit's arm over his shoulders. "Maybe now you'll understand us" he whispered before ducking out with Deceit.

"I-...I..." Thomas stammered, tears welling up in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Thomas" Roman whispered, leaving the room too, quickly at that.

"He isn't....he isn't like that anymore" Virgil tried, "but he was like that-he hurt you and...you didn't tell me?" Thomas looked to his two remaining sides hurtfully, Virgil looked distraught, his 'family' that had built up was crumbling and it hurt. Painfully so.

"I-...I need to go" Virgil sunk out, leaving Thomas and Logan alone.

"If it...comforts you" Logan murmured, "Patton did feel horrible for what he did as you aged. It is why he accepted Virgil so quickly, he didn't want to hurt anyone like that again" Thomas acknowledged what he said but made so signs that he did, Logan understood he needed time alone so left into the mind, finding the common room to be empty but the emotions and tension in the air were strong and suffocating.

He appeared inside his room and sat down on his bed.

He hated how similar it felt to when Roman and Remus were first separated...

Oops-

OOkAY liTSEn I like Patton okay??? Don't get me wrong he's an adorable poofball but I just...like this idea, I'm certainly not saying this is what happened when Roman and Remus separated but I am saying Patton might not have treated all the sides as if they were his kiddos whom he loved.
