Not so confident - Roman x Virgil

Roman hadn't left his room much that day, truly he just wasn't feeling it. He joined the table for breakfast and lunch to appease Patton's worry but other than that he's stayed to himself and pretty much ignored the world in every way he could. All of this because he wasn't exactly feeling great with himself, since waking up and taking one glance in the mirror he grimaced and felt the all familiar pit of self-consciousness stir away in his stomach.
It's not uncommon to come around, but it didn't happen all the time. Roman could go plenty of weeks absolutely fine only to get bogged down with looks and feel absolutely terrible about himself. It wasn't his fault, Thomas had issues with his self-esteem and as Roman was his ego of course whatever insecurities the host would have Roman would have, because Roman handled them. Others knew they existed, they especially knew when Thomas was severely affected, but Roman kept them to himself - not only because he hated expressing them but because he wouldn't want anyone to feel the same way. He truly wanted everyone to see themselves as beautiful.
He simply couldn't take his own advice to heart.
The hours passed by hazily, it often changed from Roman watching something on his phone to sitting at his desk and expressing his creative thoughts. He'd right a short story here and there, maybe act out a few stand alone scenes from a play, possibly even sing along to Disney karaoke. Anything to keep him entertained and pass the time. Although it soon began to run out, and by five o'clock he was staring at the ceiling, bored out of his brains. But he didn't want to leave his room - not unless he had to. He felt ashamed, physically unable to show himself to others, it felt so stupid yet ruined Roman inside out.
While in his thoughts his head tilted to the side and the sight scowled at him - across the room from him was his favourite mirror, outlined with a golden frame, painted red roses engraved into the beautiful coloured mineral. He wasn't disgusted with the mirror, no no no, rather with himself.
His hair was messy and not as 'poofy' as usual, his skin looked a little paler and his eyes held soft bags underneath them. Slowly sitting up Roman walked across the room, stopping right in front of his reflection, glaring at the image that presented itself to him. He wore his normal clothes, changing into them for lunch, and hated his ruffled and crumpled they looked from him laying down and rolling around.
Every time he ran a hand through his hair it seemed to get worse, how it was seemingly ugly in every single position Roman left it in. Not only this but his skin didn't look as perfect as usual, making an uncomfortable feeling sway through his chest. And was that a pimple-!? Roman groaned and covered his face, now up close to the mirror he could see all the little blemishes, especially the collection of blackheads he wished he could just rip out from his skin.
He took a few steps back and looked over towards the door after he heard it opening, forcing a polite smile at Virgil who poked his head around curiously, raising an eyebrow at his boyfriend.
"Hey, Puppy" he greeted a tad awkwardly, from the overall tense atmosphere of the room he didn't know if he was wanted or not. Which is why he hovered in the doorway, not leaving but not entering either. "You alright?" Roman nodded and stepped over to his bed, turning his face to avoid Virgil from being able to see it. "Why of course! I'm simply having a lazy day, a little...self-care moment, if you will" he responded with a dismissive wave of his hand, fluffing up his pillows distractedly.
"We'll talk later! During dinner? I am getting quite hungry, I'm sure whatever Patton cooks will be as scrumptious as always!" The desperate underlining of his tone caught Virgil's attention, the side knew Roman was trying to change the subject. Then he realised whether or not Roman wanted him here didn't matter. Closing the door he headed over to his bed, standing opposite to where Roman was.
"Ah, Virgil I...I wouldn't want to be rude but-"
"Puppy" Virgil cut him off, his voice a soft murmur, one he knew made Roman weak. "Cuddles?" He suggested quietly and Roman closed his eyes for a few seconds, how his boyfriend knew exactly what to do to make him feel better Roman would never know but he'd be eternally grateful.
"Please" he responded just as quietly and Virgil frowned in worry, clicking his fingers both their clothes turned into pyjamas so they'd be comfortable. Pulling back the covers Virgil got in first, holding them up for Roman to slip under which he did without hesitation, resting his head on Virgil's chest after the side laid down completely, curling his arms around his waist to give him that emotional stability.
Virgil hugged him back and gently pressed a kiss to the crown of his head, almost automatically his hand ducked underneath his shirt and gently dragged up and down Roman's back, his fingers brushing the skin so delicately, in a way that made Roman melt into putty, which he certainly did, deflating against Virgil's body in that way that made Virgil smile, knowing he was doing good.
After the two laid down and got comfortable, the lights in the room dimmed and now illuminated the room in a very gentle orange glow, not at all bright and very easy to sleep in. It happened in each room, in Logan's for example it was a dark blue, instead of orange. The colour matched the side and each one liked it very much - a setting of light which they could bask in if they wanted to take a short nap or simply relax.
"Wanna tell me what's up?" Virgil's voice was a quiet murmur, nothing too loud or pestering, he wanted Roman to know he had a choice, and could take all the time he needed. Roman brushed his face against Virgil's chest a bit, nuzzling into his warm embrace. He did want to talk about it, but it sometimes took awhile for Roman to open up, talking about this sort of thing brought on a lot of anxiety and terrible thoughts for him. Virgil knew this which was why he was very lenient with the question and possible answer.
"I wouldn't want to offend you" Roman murmured. Virgil moved his spare arm from loosely hanging around Roman's waist to instead play with the hair on his head. "Insecurities?" He guessed, Roman nodded and hid his face even further, shameful. "Ro, I'm gonna need you to look at me, only for a moment" Virgil then encouraged, shifting himself in preparation for Roman to move and lay his head beside his on the pillow, but Roman seemed adamant to hide himself which broke Virgil's heart.
"Please, Virgil, not now..." he begged and Virgil almost gave in, but this was for his own good, and it needed to be done. "No, Puppy, c'mon, a few seconds I promise" he continued without signs of giving up, so Roman relented and slowly shifted until he laid beside his boyfriend instead of on him, eyes focused entirely on Virgil's chest to avoid his expression and gaze.
Virgil cupped Roman's cheek, his finger delicately stroking the smooth skin. Roman leaned into the touch, how he adored physical affection. "Do you know how strong you are?" Virgil whispered, all soft and sweet, Roman chewed his lip but stayed silent.
"You're the strongest person I fucking know, Puppy" he continued and Roman knew he'd be smiling soon, he could already feel the sensation tugging at his lips. "My brave knight in shining armour" he continued, all sappily, just how he knew Roman liked. "But all knights fall from their mighty steed, it doesn't make them any less heroic or brave - and it certainly doesn't make them weak if sometimes they need a helping hand, a push back up, to put the reigns in their hands and tell them everything will be okay" Roman was in love, he could feel it encase his entire body like a warm, thick, heavy blanket.
He looked up at his boyfriend without hesitation, eyes glossed over with tears that he knew wouldn't spill, maybe one but only because he was lying down. No, it was a simple tearing up from his sweet and kind words - each and everyone Roman grasped to and held close to his heart, because it was exactly what he needed to hear.
"Because it will be okay, you moron" Virgil added to lighten the mood, and because he wasn't the type of person to be romantically sappy for long stretches of time. But it made Roman laugh and that was his goal. The two boys, cuddled up closely, laughing softly as their hearts filled with warm honey.
"Know what else?" Virgil whispered. Roman hummed for him to continue, his hands resting on Virgil's waist, thumbs pushing under his shirt to rub circles into his skin while Virgil's hands cupped Roman's face - the two staring deeply into each other's eyes.
"You're perfect"
Roman's heart skipped a beat, his breath wavered and his eyes glossed over once again which made Virgil smile. He thrived off of reactions like that, a favourite pass time of his was to compliment Roman in down times like these - just to see that, his simple yet adorably heart warming reaction.
"I thought I was the conceited one" it was Roman's turn to joke and the two were giggling again, every time shuffling closer and closer until their noses were brushing. "You're not conceited, d'you know how much self-love is important?" Virgil smiled and pushed their noses together ever so gently, making Roman's smile reach his eyes. "Don't let others make you feel bad just because you give yourself a compliment every once in awhile. God knows we need more people to stop hating their existence" it was true, but Roman couldn't help but chuckle lightly.
"You're right, thank you Dearest, so much" Roman leaned forward and gave him a delicate kiss.
"It's no problem, Puppy, really...I like doing this, a lot.." he blushed lightly and looked away, "but I hope you feel better than before"
"I do, next time I hopefully won't be as shy as to ask for a little comforting" he admitted, Virgil looked back up at him and shrugged one shoulder. "Come to me or shoot me a text, I'll be there, no matter what"
Roman's heart fluttered, they had been dating for a year and yet he still became so flustered. Same goes for Virgil who'll blush and hide at any given compliment or cute nickname, or just general affection.
"I love you, Dearest, so, so much" Roman nestled his head right underneath Virgil's chin, arms wounding around his torso and hugging him comfortably, their legs intertwined but they had been that way for awhile. "I love you too, Puppy" Virgil whispered back, burying his face into Roman's soft hair, breathing in the familiar scent of his soap.
"Maybe we could do this more often" Roman suggested, Virgil laughed lightly.
"Yeah...that sounds really nice"
And it was, every single time.
