"What's it like?"
Virgil blinked, eyes flickering up to his best friend.
"What's what like?"
Patton hummed, gently twirling the stem of a flower between his fingers.
"Working in the theatre. You must meet people with a lot of character" he explained, Virgil shrugged, slowly leaning back against his tree, in his lap lay a bunch of flimsy flower crowns made over the past hour.
"It's fine, I guess. A lot of the producers and choreography guys are douchebags. Apparently they fire one tech worker every month to be replaced by a newbie 'cus everyone wants to work there. Lucky me, I'm 'too good' to be fired, whatever that means" he muttered disdainfully, fingers plucking at the stems of grass.
"It means you're good at your job" Patton answered for him, taking the daisy and tucking it between a few strands of his curly blond hair. Virgil watched him.
"You'd assume that, right?" He snorted, "I'm alright at what I do, least I'm not a newbie anymore. Apparently word spread about the lack of loyalty for techies, no one new wants to work there. Course the higher ups want to keep it a secret" Virgil rolled his eyes, tugging at the grass a little harsher. "Dicks"
Patton frowned sympathetically, shuffling his butt until they were sitting right beside each other, giving him an easy route to cross his arm over his shoulder. Virgil leaned into the warm embrace.
"I'm sorry, Virgie. The others must be nice, right?"
Virgil hummed thoughtfully, "yeah, I mean-" a sigh escaped his lips, "the techies are fine. Quiet, but fine. Nice. The actors?" A small wince, "dramatic. Over the top. What you'd expect. Not my type of person, but when they're resting or just... relaxed, they're nice to talk to" he admitted, Patton's smiled broadened, he always strives to make sure Virgil tries to see the positive in things - when they first met in middle school he was such a negative, pessimistic, secretly vulnerable boy Patton wanted nothing more to be there for him and of course, see the rainbow after the storm.
And he did - they haven't parted ways since.
"What about you?" Virgil prompted, "how's your job?"
Patton giggled gently, slowly removing his arm to lay both hands in his lap. Virgil felt a little colder.
"It's been great!" He replied, both had managed to snag a different job at the same time two months ago, unfortunately both being so busy they didn't have time to talk, and when they did they didn't want it to be based around work.
"The animals are lovely, working up to and gaining trust with the particularly scared ones is such an amazing feeling! Although..." a frown slipped onto his lips, "it's hard sometimes to not- to not be... mean" he whispered, "to the visitors who don't treat their animals well. Last week a young couple came in with a dog, a Great Dane. He had grown really big and had super cute eyes! His tail wagged whenever someone gave him an ounce of attention and he was the politest thing! But they were giving him to us 'cus he was too big and they couldn't care for him" he explained a story that obviously saddened him, face crumpling up the more he spoke.
"Which is fine! I'd much rather him be cared for by people who were better suited, but they instantly asked to see our other dogs. They weren't unsuited, they were just trading him. Like he was a- a library book!" Patton whimpered, crossing his arms over his chest. Virgil knew that meant he was especially upset.
"I tried to talk them out of it but they weren't having it... my manager understood when I refused to service them after that. They were really close to filing a report against me though... I'm lucky they were talked out of it" a sigh left him once he finished, glossy eyes watching his fingers rub the bare skin of his leg.
"Am I a bad person for that?" He mumbled so quietly, so sadly Virgil's heart broke. "Pat, of course not" he disagreed instantly, "those fucked up owners are the bad ones. They probably got him when he was a puppy and didn't expect him to grow that big 'cus they're dumbasses" he continued to berate them, "dogs are for life. What they did was horrible. You stood up for your morals and that dog" quickly, Virgil reached up and rubbed his shoulder. "You're not a bad person" he reassured.
Patton managed a small smile, "Thanks, Virge. That means a lot"
The two leaned against each other again, continuing to make flower crowns.
"You're welcome, Pat"
—
"And this is the storage for shit that isn't used anymore, unless in emergencies" Virgil lastly explained, unlocking and pushing open the dark oak door before him. Patton peered over his shoulder, waiting until Virgil flicked on the light before taking in a breath.
"Woah" he exclaimed, "it's so...-"
"Messy?"
"Full. I was going to say full" Patton corrected, never one to be even slightly mean if he could help it. Virgil rolled his eyes amusedly, the two walking down the four steps until reaching the floor, barely visible under random bits of fabric blatantly thrown into the room without care.
"It smells old" Patton commented, breathing in the musty smell of worn clothes and mothballs.
Virgil dragged his hand down the sleeve of a costume barely holding onto it's hanger, "smells like shit" he corrected, Patton chuckled softly and trod further into the room, taking light steps across as much of the floor as he could rather than the dusty, ratty cloths. Virgil couldn't care less, but he supposed that's what he admired in Patton so much. His unrelenting care for everything and everyone.
"So, what do you think of this place?" Virgil prompted, telling Patton to wait until the end of the 'tour' before giving his verdict. The man hummed in thought, gazing upon a mannequin head sat on a ledge. It had no hair, mouth or ears, just eyes and a nose.
"It's nice!" He concluded, whirling around to face his best friend. "The arch... architecture?" Once Virgil nodded, he continued with a bright smile. "The architecture is beautiful! And the costumes are so cool, and the stage!" He gushed, flapping his hands excitedly. "It's all so pretty!"
Virgil watched him continue to sprout high praise for such a mediocre theatre, but nevertheless Virgil found it adorable. His smile reached his eyes, almost as if they were smiling too, blue orbs aflame with pure happiness, body bouncing on the balls of his feet, unable to keep still as if all the pent up joy within him would burst if he stood still any longer.
Virgil tried to focus on his words, but kept zoning out to simply... stare. And admire everything that was Patton.
Eventually they left the storage room, taking each other to the stage while they spoke. As they neared the red, heavy curtain they could hear a boastful voice booming out to an empty crowd.
"Are auditions on today?" Patton worried, pausing in his tracks. Virgil shook his head, "nah, just actors being actors, c'mon" Virgil reassured, nudging his head along. Patton hesitated but continued, now the two walked hand in hand, pushing aside the curtain for each other but pausing halfway through.
"Oh" they both mumbled, staring at the lone actor on stage.
"Who's that?" Patton awed.
Virgil's mouth went dry, "I... have no idea"
Directly in the middle of the stage stood a man. Inches taller than both Patton and Virgil, holding himself with the confidence of a thousand peacocks. His shoulders arched, chest proudly puffed, a song melting out from his perfectly carved lips almost as if it were honey, filling out the entire room - even the tiniest of cracks.
Virgil had never come across this actor before, if he did he certainly would've remembered the softest hair he's ever seen laid messily yet extremely attractively over his head, auburn reflecting the lights from above. He also would've remembered the round eyes copying the exact shade of burnt orange from a leaf in autumn, fallen from a tree and laying peacefully against the grass. Or he would've recalled the olive tan of his skin, smooth without blemish. And the small, brown beauty marks dotted on his cheek and forehead.
And especially his voice, which sounded too illegal to be real.
By the time the pair were finished ogling the song was finished, and the man blatantly satisfied with the voice gifted from the Gods turned around. He flinched a bit in surprise upon seeing two strangers, then a broad smile settled onto his features.
"Greetings!" He declared, hastily rushing toward them both. "My apologies for not noticing you sooner" as he spoke, the man leaned down and pressed delicate kisses against both of Virgil's cheeks. He froze up as this happened, wondering if they were actually about to kiss-
But he quickly moved on and repeated the action to Patton who giggled happily, face coating a soft pink.
"Are you-? Do you work here?" He wondered, Virgil was still in a stupor from the kisses so Patton, (still softly chuckling) answered instead. "I don't! But my friend Virgil does, he's a techie!"
"Oh! Behind the scenes, I could never work that job. My entire being belongs on stage!" his arms swept around dramatically, Virgil could see why he belonged on stage alright.
"Uh- are you new?" Virgil finally spoke up, sleeves wiping his cheeks.
"Why yes, I am. I came all the way to the land of the US of A to pursue my dreams! One day I'll be on broadway" he boasted without fault, as if he didn't believe anything could happen otherwise. Virgil rolled his eyes, hearing that broadway line countless times, but not the one before it. Although he could hint at an accent, and didn't believe anyone so attractive could be from America.
"Aw! That's wonderful Kiddo, where did you live before?" Patton prompted, clasping his hands together.
The man smirked, "it is wonderful, isn't it? And oh- I'm from Argentina" he replied.
"Really?!" Patton suddenly sprung up excitedly, "that's so cool! You can speak Spanish, right?"
The man, obviously adoring have someone gush over him, took a few strides forward, holding Patton's chin between his fingers to tilt his head up. "Claro que si, cariño, Y si te gustaría podría hablar en español entre tus piernas más tarde" he spoke smoothly, smirk adoring his features.
"I... have no idea what you just said" Patton replied, yet still sounded completely struck by his words. Roman took a few steps back to laugh, waving his hands around. "Nothing, nothing, just a joke" he shrugged, turning to Virgil with the same, shit-eating expression.
"It was a pleasure to meet you both, and I'm sure you feel the same way" he held a hand to his heart, "I'll hopefully see you~" he waved his finger towards Patton, "again, mí amor" he purred, instantly beginning to sing again as he walked behind stage, a song from a broadway musical Virgil's heard from other actors too many times.
"What an ass" Virgil remarked blankly. Patton gasped and swatted him all too lightly, "Virge! Don't say that, he was sweet"
"He was trying to get into your pants" Virgil corrected, then sighed and rubbed a hand down his face. "Whatever, I've met worse. Somehow"
Patton smiled sadly, intertwining their hands. "Aw, I'm sorry you've had to deal with them. But hey! I could see you staring" he teased, the two walking off the stage and through the rows of chairs. Virgil scoffed, "was not"
"Was too!"
"Was not!"
"Was too!"
As their argument continued and voices faded, smiles slowly grew on their faces.
They truly loved their best friend.
—
"Who the fuck keeps taking you out" Virgil muttered angrily to himself, yanking a wire from the floor and shoving it back where it should be. "You're taken out more than me... and I'm a fucking human" he added, grouchily returning to the seat at the control panel.
Tonight was auditions night, the nights he quickly realised would be the worst. It was one of the few times the whole theatre was packed with people, during shows they stayed in the audience (lest that's what he assumed, nay- prayed), but nights like these they roamed back stage, found themselves in places where they certainly shouldn't be. It was such a hassle to lead them back, especially if they don't want to go - after an hour Virgil redirected his attempts to swearing.
A fierce "fuck off" hasn't failed yet, and he continues to do so if people keep showing up randomly
Thankfully he didn't have to do much with anything, merely keep the lights focused on certain areas of the stage. Other techies dealt with the people, thank god. Virgil certainly wasn't complaining when his ass started to hurt after sitting for so long knowing he could be in their position.
Midway through, inevitably social media distracted him. He scrolled through Tumblr endlessly before someone finally caught his attention.
"Hey, V?"
The man hummed, tilting his head back. The only person who called him 'V' was Ray, the oldest (and longest-lasting) techie. He always wore a neutral expression unless in the presence of any other techies who he had 'adopted', teaching them the ropes when they are first hired and willing to drop anything if they need a hand. He's also been known to give them rides home, especially if they were young and didn't have a car, or really couldn't afford gas money.
Virgil respected him immeasurably.
"Big surprise" Ray continued, leaning on the control panel.
"What? Pigs can fly?"
Ray snorted, crossing his bulky arms over his chest. It was blatant Ray spent a lot of time in the gym, in his words to 'protect those who may need it', yet he never talks about the times he has saved people. It isn't his story to tell, he says, and would hate for the person he helped out to be embarrassed by him relaying what happened to others.
Again, Virgil truly respected the guy.
"If only- that would be so cute" the thought made him smile, though he quickly shook his head. "Even more impossible than that- Pierre... smiled"
Virgil's eyebrows shot up faster than a rocket, pushing his wheelie chair back a few yards. "Sm-... smiled?!" He repeated in disbelief, Ray laughed and nodded furiously. "Fucking smiled! The guy on stage instantly landed the roll. Could see why- his voice was as soothing as a harp. And he was extremely attractive"
Ray, the living bi-icon.
"Wait... auburn hair?"
Ray nodded.
"Tall, probably six foot?"
Ray smirked, "what, you know him?"
Virgil grimaced, "unfortunately. He's an arrogant ass"
Ray then laughed again, throwing his head back. "You say that about every actor"
"So?! They're all me me me, you should've seen him! He fucking flirted with my best friend right out the gate!" Virgil huffed, falling back in his chair and crossing his arms stubbornly. Ray's smirk broadened, crossing one leg over the other.
"Remind me, is this your other best friend, or Patton?"
"Patton"
"Why not call him by his correct title?"
Ray-"
"Crush"
Virgil leaned over to thwack his arm, of course being so weak compared it didn't hurt a bit. "Ray! Shut up you big bastard" Virgil hissed, causing the taller man to howl with laughter. Virgil forever regretted the day he told Ray his secret... not that he had a choice, Ray noticed his crush as soon as he saw the two hang out for the first time. Which gave Virgil a monstrous amount of anxiety, wondering who else could know and if they were to tell Patton? After much reassurance from Ray, he soon relaxed, realising Ray's gaydar was just pinpoint accurate.
Nevertheless Ray didn't stop talking about it, only to Virgil thankfully.
"How long have you had this crush now? Since ninth grade?" Ray whistled, gazing into the distance. "That kid means a lot to ya, the only reason you don't like Roman"
Virgil perked his head up, "that's his name? Roman? Ugh" he spat, "such a... fucking arrogant name"
Again, Ray laughed. "Chances are he didn't name himself. And you need to stop being such an ass. Just 'cus you're not an egotistical brat doesn't mean you're not a dick. Anyway-" Ray waved off, however much he loved his 'kids' he wouldn't hesitate to call them out on their bullshit.
"He made Pierre smile, what a fucking champ. Thought you might like to know. He got lead roll"
"What play is it again?" Virgil pushed up his upper lip, Ray gave him a look of disbelief. "I can't believe you sometimes, it's posted everywhere" as he gestured Virgil followed his arm, noticing a poster stuck to the wall, in printed big bold letters read; 'Newsies'.
"Oh yeah.." he drifted, genuinely unsurprised he forgot.
Ray snorted and stood up, reaching over to ruffle Virgil's hair. As the young man hissed and yanked up his hood, Ray began to walk away. "Call me if ya need anything, kid"
Virgil pulled himself back to the panel, muttering under his breath. Whatever, Roman was inconsequential to him, and for the rest of his life he'd never speak to him again.
—
The familiar soft chime of the bell hanging above the door to Virgil's favourite coffee place brought a smile to his face. He always found peace here, the lack of crowds, the booths he could easily curl into and block the world from. And the staff were always so polite, accustom to his social anxiety and general awkwardness.
If this place ever closed down, he didn't think he'd never stop crying.
Walking up to the counter he only had to wait a moment before someone showed up, to Virgil's surprise they were new. A nameplate on their chest reading; 'Logan'.
While Virgil's never seen this guy before he wished he had, because holy shit he was hot. Jet black hair combed neatly across his head, in the attractive profesional sort of way. His eyes were that of a forest, such a rich green Virgil feared if he stared for too long he may become lost in their beauty. His nose was angled straight and sharp, jaw line ready to cut steal.
"How can I help you today?" His deep yet monotone voice sliced through his gay thoughts. Virgil blinked rapidly, cheeks burning red, praying he hasn't been caught staring like a creep. "Oh-um, just- uh, the usual- I mean— uh" he paled at every stutter that fell from his lips, "sorry- shit" he cursed under his breath, "just a medium black coffee- no milk, sugar... just black" he finally concluded.
Logan seemed a little lost but nodded anyway, "and your name?" He requested, grabbing a cup from the shelf.
"Virgil"
"Virgil" Logan repeated, writing it down. "Such a unique name..." he added, turning around and preparing the drink. Virgil blushed further- had he meant to say that? Or slip of the tongue? Either way Virgil wouldn't comment on it, in fear it would only create more awkwardness.
Luckily the cafe was pretty empty, avoiding waiting a long time for his drink to be finished. "Virgil?" Logan called, placing the warm cup on the counter.
Virgil stepped up and took it, handing the exact change over with a three dollar tip as per usual. He counted the money on the way here many, many times.
Turning around he went to walk to his booth when Logan stopped him. "This is too much" he stated outright, Virgil stopped taking a sip from his coffee (which tasted amazing, better than usual) and faced him halfway. "Oh, I always tip three dollars... wait, did I count wrong?"
Logan senses the sudden increase of panic in his voice and shook his head calmly, "no, I simply wanted to make sure the tip was intended" he explained evenly, visibly relaxing the young man.
"Ah, yea, sorry I should've said..."
"It is not a problem" Logan dismissed, "have a nice day"
Virgil managed a small smile in response, "you too" he nodded then sat down, cupping the drink between his hands. Well- that was awkward as shit, thankfully the rest of his time here would be fine, he'd be prepared for the next time too. Still, he had to tell someone.
Drawing out his phone, he typed and sent a text.
» guess what
Putting down the phone on the table, Virgil turned to look out the window, watching the bustling street while sipping his coffee. Usually Patton took awhile to respond when at work, so peacefully five minutes passed before he heard a vibrate.
Ooo! What?? :D «
Virgil smiled at how much enthusiasm showed from Patton, even in his texts.
» new guy working @ the coffee place
» awkwardest moment of my life
» hes hot
Again, Patton took another length of time to respond. While he did Virgil eyed the new worker, watching him wipe down the counter with ease - seemingly having mastered the art. His face had a look of fierce concentration for such an easy job, Virgil assumed he wanted it to be as sanitary as possible. Which wasn't ever a bad thing. But when he moved his arm the soft definition of muscle underneath his tight blue top tensed and bulged, Virgil shamefully stared until Patton replied.
I'm sorry it was awkward Kiddo!!! But that's great! Maybe you should give him your number! «
Virgil gazed at the message forlornly, his crush already has his number, he thought.
» fuk no hed decline
» plus not looking for relationship rn
Virgil hated lying, but the truth carried more of a burden than any white lie he had told his best friend since grade nine.
Who could decline such a handsome man??? But I understand Kiddo! «
In his chest Virgil's heart fluttered, unable to stop his cheeks twinging pink. If only you knew, Virgil frowned.
» ye anyway talk later? ur probably busy
I sorta am but I'll always find breaks to talk to you! «
Virgil smile warmly, taking another long sip. Patton always knew the way to his heart.
» thanks pat
» stay safe
You too kiddo!!!! «
Virgil finally placed down his phone, leaning back against the comfortable cushion of the booth to let his brain wander and finish the rest of his coffee. Often during moments of reprise his daydreaming came in handy, able to come up with grand storylines that escaped him from reality for hours.
Although often they were pretty simple, most of the time centred around the idea of Patton admitting his feelings to Virgil, either accidentally or on purpose, no matter what happened it made Virgil happy. During those moments he could push aside his self deprecation for this. For his eyes to almost vividly see him and Patton standing under the stairs, on a rooftop, inside their bedroom, kissing.
What an impossible story to imagine.
"Excuse me?"
Virgil snapped his head up to the attractive new staff member, he held a damp rag in his hand, other gesturing to the table. "May I clean here?" He requested, having already cleaned many other tables nearby. "Oh! Sure, yeah" Virgil removed his phone and allowed Logan to wipe down every inch, not leaving a space untouched.
"Is your coffee okay?" He then asked, "I admittedly haven't made a simple back coffee in awhile"
Virgil's eyes blew wide, "you haven't?" He replied in shock, "it-I mean" at that moment he was ready to sink into the seat below him, his response uncontrolled and incredibly embarrassing. "I mean, it- it tastes great" he reassured, Logan nodded and allowed his lips to quirk in a small smile.
That only made him more attractive in Virgil's opinion.
Then Virgil had a moment, a single thought striking him harsher than a lighting bolt. This could be his chance. His chance to escape the seemingly life long crush on Patton! Logan was undeniably attractive, he didn't appear self-centred or cocky, and gave off quite a down-to-Earth vibe. In retrospect he'd be perfect for Virgil.
Still the anxiety was there, the fear of rejection. But the hope of letting his feelings for Patton drop and fade was there too and fuck it if Virgil was going to let his only possible chance of moving on slip from his grasp.
"When did you start to work here?" Virgil started conversation smoother than anticipated.
Logan stood straighter, just finishing cleaning. "Last week"
Virgil cocked his head, singling Logan to continue but the man didn't pick up on it. "Oh, is it.... is it nice here?" He verbally prompted instead.
Logan nodded, "it is. Save for the few rude customers. I-..." he trailed off, "sorry, I must ask, would you like for me to elaborate? From personal experience people have become rather frustrated when I answer the question with more information than they originally wanted" Virgil's eyes softened, gently placing the cup on the table.
"Yeah, please do... sorry about the other people, sound like they suck"
For the first time since arriving Virgil heard Logan let out a chuckle, it sounded so cute. "I suppose they do 'suck'. But that was awhile ago. Moving back to the topic at hand- my mother always complimented my ability to make her espressos in the morning, to help pay for my rent I managed to get a job here, and haven't received a single complaint as of yet" he seemed rather proud of himself, making Virgil smile contentedly.
"That's great. If your coffee has anything to go by your espressos must be heavenly" the compliment sent Logan's pupils to widen and cheeks colour a soft pink.
"I-well" he cleared his throat, visibly flustered. Virgil grinned a little wider. "Thank you, Virgil. I.. I could make you one, if you would like?"
Virgil agreed instantly and followed him to the counter, watching with great interest as Logan began to make the drink. He wasn't a big fan of espressos himself, or any other fancy coffee variant. Black was his go to whenever, and always caffeinated. Still, he could drink an espresso from time to time, and wouldn't pass up the opportunity to get closer to this handsome stranger.
Although, floating in the back of his mind were bright blue eyes and soft, blonde curls...
"Here you go" Logan places the white mug before Virgil who thanked him, cupping it and bringing it to his lips. He blew on it before taking a sip, gasping in shock (something he had never done before upon tasing anything) quickly setting the mug back down. Logan gaze in concern, "is there anything wrong?"
"No, no, fuck no" Virgil shook his head, "Lo that's fucking incredible!" He then exclaimed, ears burning in slight embarrassment at his sudden loudness, but Logan didn't seen bothered by it. Rather further flustered than before. "Ah- oh, really? Thank you" a small, adorable smile slipped onto his face. Virgil couldn't help but want to see it more and more.
"Yes, really... It's no problem" he grabbed the mug and drank some more, moaning in delight as he did. Logan watched on, nervously closing the tie he wore closer to his neck. Something Virgil had only noticed on him at that moment. It suited him extremely well, if a little too formal for a simple coffee shop.
"Your mother was right" Virgil finished the drink quick, "that's the best espresso I've ever had" and that wasn't an exaggeration. Again Logan flushed a little, putting aside the mug for something his hands to do.
"Thank you" he murmured, "I... apologise, I don't handle compliments well"
"No, it's cool" Virgil waved off, "you're cool. Neither do I, really" he admitted, scratching his neck. "Huh, then.. we have two things in common"
"Oh?" Virgil pried for the other.
"Well, we both cannot handle compliments well and... we both want each other's number" he flirted smoothly, which came as quite the shock to Virgil who assumed the guy was an easily flustered nerd who didn't have a flirtatious bone in his body. In that moment it was Virgil's turn to blush, stumbling over his words.
"Was that too forward?" Logan chuckled, "I apologise. My friend insists I try and use pick up lines more frequently to those I find attractive"
Virgil nearly heaved, splaying his hands on the counter. Why didn't god warn him this guy had some game? Not that he believed in the guy, but that was no excuse to hold back! "Oh my god" he murmured fittingly.
"Too forward again?" Logan smiled.
Virgil met his gaze, smirking. "I don't think anything you could do would be too forward right now"
Logan hummed, scooping up the rag and dragging it across the counter. "How inviting"
Virgil cleared his throat, "do you wanna... swap numbers then?"
Logan blinked in surprise, "wait- that worked?"
Virgil spluttered then laughed, "yeah, dude! Fuck- course it worked"
Logan blushed again, chuckling in embarrassment. "I see. I always assumed such acts would either get me slapped or ignored. But yes- I would-... we can exchange numbers- I've never been asked this question, I do not know how to respond" he seemed to curl in on himself the more he spoke, Virgil instinctively reached out and placed his hand on his.
"Hey, it's fine" his voice fell gentle, relaxing Logan steadily. "Um- here" he withdrew his phone and handed it to Virgil who took it and made himself a contact, swiftly giving him back his device.
"Text me when you're ready" Virgil suggested rather than making Logan give him his number in response, lest he made the guy uncomfortable.
"Thank you, Virgil" he responded in a blatantly relived tone, "I appreciate that"
Virgil smiled warmly, for a moment allowing himself to get lost in the beauty of Logan's blue- no, no. Green eyes. Then he accidentally focused on the clock behind Logan's head and startled. "Shit- I'll be late if I stay longer" he spoke, not realising his break had run longer than usual.
"Oh, sorry to keep you" Logan tried to apologise but Virgil shook his head, "no, no it's fine. See you around?"
Logan nodded, "goodbye. Travel safely" Virgil shot him a grateful smile and swiftly left, getting inside of his car and sitting in the silence for a few moments. Then he pulled out his phone and texted.
» so uh
» i gave him my number
—
Roman twiddled with his thumbs, every so often glancing up and around for that certain dark head of hair and chocolate brown eyes.
Was he in search for a certain techie Virgil? Perhaps. He desperately needed some company and everyone else appeared to be so busy. Besides Virgil seemed touchy and the type to become easily irritated in his presence, Roman's favourite.
Or at least... what he was accustomed to.
When he heard footsteps his head perked up, eyes brightening, but his whole body sagged when he realised it was Ray. The man introduced himself fairly early on, mostly to congratulate him on making Pierre smile. Roman was glad they had that conversation, it only boosted his ego by miles.
Ray looked Roman up and down, a smirk daring to edge his features. "Sitting on V's control panel, huh?" He pointed out, Roman jumped down and swept across the wooden floor towards him.
"Yes!" Roman wailed, "but he hasn't been back in hours! Where is he!?" He complained, almost ready to stamp his foot like a child. Ray rolled his eyes. "It hasn't been hours, he's on his break" he corrected, "he should be back in five... but why do you want him?"
"Ah, maravilloso" he muttered to himself in glee, quickly returning to the panel before registering Rey's question. "Oh! To.. talk" he shrugged, because really.. that was all he wanted. "I'm so lonely, and he keeps beautiful company"
Ray simply hummed in response, "right, well.. good luck with him"
"Oh-!" Roman held a hand to his heart, "luck!" He repeated fondly, "a man like me, I don't need luck"
Ray snorted and didn't say another word, once again leaving Roman alone.
This time he simply leaned on the control panel rather than sit, arms crossed over his chest. Like Ray promised five minutes later Virgil showed up, a smile planted on his face falling when his eyes landed on Roman.
"Oh, god" he muttered, wondering what on Earth Roman could want. Patton's number? He'd die before giving that to him though. "Ah, you're here!" Roman clasped his hands together happily, waltzing over to Virgil in joy. "Where have you been? I've missed you" he commented almost mockingly, Virgil clicked his tongue and moved right past the annoyance, dropping his bag beside the panel.
"Whatever, Roman"
The man hummed, coming up beside Virgil to gaze upon the large array of buttons and such. "What does this do~?" He pondered, ready to press a blue button but Virgil quickly batted his hand away. "Dude! Don't fucking do that!" He shot with a glare as intimidating as a kitten, Roman even laughed in amusement. "Has anyone ever told you not to press random buttons?" Virgil then added in exasperation, he hated dealing with actors.
"Not like that" Roman replied, turning around to face the open space behind them, sitting halfway on the panel. "They said it like... no presiones botones aleatorios" Virgil took a moment to understand then sighed, covering his a face with his hand. Roman bellowed out a laugh, nudging the techie playfully but as Virgil was as weak as a twig he nearly fell over.
"Jesus- what do you want, Roman?" Virgil finally sighed, staring at the man who hummed in thought.
"A... tour" he settled on, Virgil huffed. "You've already had a tour of the place-"
"Not here" Roman corrected, "the town"
Virgil stared at him in silence, making sure he had heard him right. It came as quite the shock, Virgil assumed Roman already knew the basics of where he lived. After all he must've moved in quite a few months ago, right? Did he spend all his time in the theatre? At this point Virgil wouldn't put it past him.
"Por favor?" Roman stuck out his bottom lip, giving him the puppy-dog eyes act and all. Virgil didn't think Roman would leave him alone until he agreed, and quite frankly spending time outside of this place with friends would be nice. Not that he didn't adore all his time spent with Patton, but he's been extremely busy with his job and after all it sometimes... hurt to be around him. Plus his and Logan's friendship was on the direct route to blossom into something more than what he and Roman could ever have, so he guessed Roman was his only option.
Even if the guy was an arrogant, cocky ass he was persuasive - curses.
"I- ugh" he dropped his head into his hand, "why do you even want a tour? I mean- don't you know this town enough?"
Roman shook his head with put-on forlorn, "unfortunately not, I haven't had much time to explore, not that I'd get lost on my own, I am perfect in every way of course, but I'd hate to go alone" he explained, Virgil rolled his eyes and faced the array of buttons labelled accordingly.
"Of course" he sighed, "I guess? Are you free this weekend?" He caved, upon realising this Roman lit up like a star. "Yes! Sunday?"
Virgil internally winced, Sunday's are his resting days, who the fuck does anything on Sundays!? But he did basically give away his whole weekend was free, it would be Roman's choice which day they go out on.
"Yeah, sure"
Roman, giddy in delight, began to ramble on about his excitement while drawing out his phone and opening a contact. "Here" he handed it over, "put your number and all that"
Virgil did so, allowing Roman to do the same on his own device.
"Perfect! See you around, Virgil~" he crooned, sweeping out the room in his on-stage glamour. Virgil slumped in his seat, running a hand through his hair.
What had he gotten himself into.

Obviously I never finished this, but the part I did write I didn't want to delete, so if you want, you can finish it whichever way you like :)
