Mom! - Virgil & Deceit

Virgil woke up with a start early that morning, shaking where he sat bolt up right in bed, clutching at the blanket wrapped around his small body. Quickly he flicked on his bedside lamp as currently his night light wasn't doing enough for him. Eyes gazed across the room frantically to see if he could spot anything out of the ordinary, much to his comfort he could not, everything looked the exact same since he fell asleep.

But he definitely wasn't getting back to sleep any time soon.

Shuffling out of bed he wrapped himself up in his purple blanket that laid above the quilt, grabbed his favourite plush of a spider and hurried across his room to the door. Outside in the hallway the lights were dim (they always were in the dark side of the mind, even more so when Thomas was asleep). He let out a soft whine, terrified of the dark. His brain imaged the endless possibilities of monsters chasing him from the end of the dark hallway if he were to leave which made him dart back inside his room, jumping onto his bed and curling his blanket around him tighter.

His breath was quickening, he didn't want to be alone any longer.

"M-mom!" He cried out, bottom lip trembling, tears welling in his eyes. "Mom! Mom! Please!" He called louder, softly crying now, holding his spider teddy to his chest, body still shaking like mad. The cries from the child could be heard by exactly who needed to hear them - it only took a few for him to awake quickly.

He wondered what disturbed him until he heard it again, the broken, terrified cry from Virgil a few rooms down.

Jumping out of bed he sprinted out the room, going as fast as he could into Virgil's bedroom, flicking on the lights which lit up the room even further. He gazed at the young boy who sat on the bed, a crying, shaking mess who made grabby hands towards him.

Deceit wasn't exactly that much older than him, he was a few years younger than Thomas, Virgil being even younger still. It's why he saw Deceit as a parental figure, he hasn't been around an adult but Deceit does his best, for both him and Remus who usually doesn't get scared of anything.

"Oh, Honey" Deceit whispered, hurrying to his bed where he brought Virgil into a warm, protective embrace. Virgil grabbed the back of his pyjama top and cried into his chest, his spider wedged between them. "Come with me" Deceit whispered, curling Virgil in a blanket and taking him out of his room and into his own, leaving on the desk lamp to not completely shroud the room in darkness - however it was never truly dark, the light above his snake's enclosure prevented that but he got used to it quick.

Laying him down on his bed close to his wall he cuddled up right beside him, letting him calm down while stroking his hair and drawing patterns into his skin.

"What happened?" Deceit asked once Virgil's crying had reduced and he was just sniffling.

"N-nightmare" Virgil whispered in response, cuddling further into his 'mother'.

"Nothing can hurt you, I'll kill it before it can even look at you" he promised and Virgil felt that bit more safer in his 'mother's' arms, now he wasn't so scared he could feel exhaustion sweeping over him and it didn't take too long to fall asleep, however he managed to say something first.

"M'love you mom..."

Deceit smiled, "I love you too"
