Au

Virgie💜 - hey pat

pat🐶 - hi Virgil!! How are you?

Virgie💜 - im fine
Virgie💜 - you?

Virgil sighed as he stared at his screen, thumbs hovering over his keyboard. The entire reason why he decided to text Patton was to vent to him about his problems and how he was shoving them aside as he always did. He and Patton have known each other for three years now and while Patton knows a little of what his home life is like he doesn't know it all.

Virgil has trust issues and finds it hard to tell anyone about what's happening in his life - especially if it's bad. He also doesn't want to be a bother to Patton but after many reassuring conversations and 'physical attacks' (cuddles) he let himself relax and loosen up. Patton wouldn't mind, he told himself as he began to write out his next text.

Virgie💜 - actually
Virgie💜 - can i talk to u about something?

pat🐶 - of course Virge! Anything! What's wrong??

Virgie💜 - i just wanna rant i guess
Virgie💜 - that alright?

pat🐶 - more than alright! Tell me what's bothering you, Virgie!

Virgil felt himself smile slightly while gazing at his text messages. How does Patton manage to make him feel better no matter what he does or says?

Virgie💜 - after school my parents started arguing with me
Virgie💜 - and its so fucking stupid cuz they were mad for no reason

pat🐶 - What did they say? :(

Virgie💜 - just random shit about my mental health
Virgie💜 - complaining cus they spend so much money on therapy
Virgie💜 - and how apparently its not helping
Virgie💜 - if i dont start improving theyll stop paying for it

pat🐶 - what?? That's not fair at all!!!! :(((((

Patton moved from sitting at his desk to his bed, crossing his legs and wobbling his lip between his teeth. Virgil has told him briefly about some of the stuff he goes through at home, how he's treated by his unloving parents. He remembered meeting his mother once and hating every second of being in her presence - it was so uncomfortable and she gave off such a terrible atmosphere Patton honestly didn't feel safe. His hate towards the couple grew - especially from this conversation.

As Virgil went deeper into what he had gone through that day, and the past few weeks after Patton encouraged him to do so, each text Patton became more and more annoyed at his so called 'parents'. His frown deepened and eyebrows creased with worry - he couldn't imagine what it would be like to live in that house.

Virgie💜 - anyway yeah
Virgie💜 - thanks for letting me rant

Virgil began to worry now, staring at his screen as minutes began to pass, not a single text coming in from Patton. Had he done something wrong? Did he rant for too long? As thoughts swirled through his mind, relief flooded through him when Patton began to type.

pat🐶 - thats it
pat🐶 - I'm adopting you

Virgil's eyes widened.

Virgie💜 - wait what?

pat🐶 - you're my child now! I can't let them be your parents! They're not good enough for you! You deserve better, Kiddo! And I wanna try and be that for you!
pat🐶 - I'm now your mom! And dad! You're mom + dad combo!

Virgil felt his heart melt and a smile grow on his face, could Patton get anymore adorable? He thought while typing out a response.

Virgie💜 - pat
Virgie💜 - you dont have to do that

pat🐶 - too late Kiddo! Your my child now!!

Virgil smiled and rolled his eyes fondly, clicking onto Patton's contact and quickly changing his name to something more appropriate. Unbeknownst to him, Patton had the same idea.

MyKiddo💜 - what did i do to deserve you?

dad🐶 - aw Kiddo, you were just yourself!!!

Virgil didn't expect it to go too far, he thought it would just be an off handed comment from time to time, sometimes being called 'Kiddo' when they were texting, but he had no idea it would carry on through to their real lives. The next day in school he waited with his other friend, Logan, by the front steps where they always waited for Patton and Roman. Usually Logan arrived here first, then Virgil who would stay in for longer in bed if it weren't for his longing to be far away from his parents, then Patton who came in when most people did, and finally Roman who each morning ran to school, just reaching there before the bell.

"Kiddo!" Patton's voice disturbed their conversation and before Virgil knew it he was being bear hugged by the boy a few inches taller than he. Logan watched on with a content expression.

"Uh-Pat?"

"Hey Logan!" He greeted, sitting on the step one below them. "Did Virgil tell you I adopted him?" Logan rose his eyebrow in curiously, glancing at Virgil who blushed and hid his face in his jacket. "No, he did not" Logan responded, amusement floating in his eyes, mixing with his words. Virgil merely glared at him.

"Well, he is! My adorable child, aren't you, Virgie?"

The boy sighed but smiled at his 'dad' who was grinning from ear to ear, obviously extremely joyous over this 'adoption' thing. "No..." he trailed off in a low voice, Patton laughed and moved to sit beside him, curling an arm around his shoulders and giving him a tight side hug, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "You're gonna be the best son ever" he concluded and both Virgil and Logan knew they could never, ever change his mind.

A few minutes before the bell Roman came rushing across the path towards the front doors, grinning breathlessly when he saw Logan. "Greetings, all!" He waved, "I'm here, don't worry"

"We weren't" Virgil deadpanned him, Roman sending him a look before smiling at Logan who smiled back, trying to hide it but both boys saw and smirked at each other. "Ro! I've adopted Virgil!"

The boy did a split take at his two friends, lips curling into a wicked grin. "Really?" He winked at Virgil while holding a hand stretched towards Logan, "isn't that cute - do you call him daddy, by chance?" Logan stifled his laughter while Virgil glared, knowing Patton didn't understand the sexual implications behind Roman's inappropriate comment.

"No, you moron" Virgil fired back, standing up too with Patton giggling, hugging his hand.

"Aw, how disappointing" Roman cooed, but it was all in good fun. Turning to Logan, he sent him a genuine smile, tugging him down the stairs. "Go to class, we'll be there shortly!" Roman called before leading Logan away and around the building.

Patton and Virgil shared looks but they didn't know, so didn't ask and hurried off to lessons before they would be counted as late.

Throughout the day, Virgil was always (pleasantly) surprised by Patton's little acts of affection. He did give them out plentiful times to all of his friends before this, including Virgil, but now that he was his 'child' he seemed to be unable to stop, most of the time hugging his hand, or hugging him, whispering cute, fatherly words of affection, a bunch of new pet names and even leaning over to kiss his forehead every so often.

And Virgil loved every single moment of it.

The sheer adoration Patton held for him came out that day and it honestly almost brought him to tears. The feeling of being cared for by a 'parental figure' was enough to make him melt and he truly began to love Patton that day.

"Thank you, Pat" Virgil caught him at the end of the day, reaching over to grip his hand. "For...all of this, for today, I..." Virgil glanced away in slight embarrassment, Patton cooed and tugged him into a gentle hug. "Anything for my Kiddo" Patton whispered and Virgil almost broke then and there but he didn't want to start crying in school.

"Come over to my house today!" Patton encouraged and Virgil didn't need to be asked twice. Knowing his parents wouldn't care, they quickly gathered a few spare clothes (as his parents arrive home later) before walking to Patton's who luckily didn't live too far away.

"We can share a bed, if you want" Patton suggested as they walked up to his front door. "To cuddle! I know you like them" Patton joked, Virgil rolled his eyes, cheeks twinging pink. "Yeah, that sounds nice" he agreed, following after Patton once he entered.

"Hey, Patton!" The sweet voice of Patton's mother called through the house, she appeared from the kitchen, head poked out, eyes instantly landing on Virgil.

"And Virgil too!" She grinned, hurrying over with her wife quickly following behind, the two hugging hands.

"Hey, mom, mama!" Patton waved, "Virgil's my child now! I adopted him!" He explained, amusement flooding through the women's eyes.

"Really? How sweet" his mom grinned, "how are you, Virgil?"

"I'm good.." he drifted, a tad awkward, always awkward when talking to people he doesn't know much. "Can he stay for a sleepover?" His parents both instantly agreed, telling them dinner would be ready later before they rushed off to Patton's room.

"I think they'll make your favourite" Patton winked at Virgil who put down his bag. "Really?" He murmured, a soft smile rising on his lips.

Patton nodded and hugged him again, pressing a kiss to his forehead. "They love you, Kiddo...and I love you too" He murmured, watching Virgil's eyes begin to water, lips trembling with a smile. "Pat-I-" He sniffled, instead of trying to say anything he buried his face into Patton's shoulder, the boy laughing and hugging him tight, running a hand up and down his back.

"The Black Cauldron?" Patton suggested and Virgil wordlessly agreed.

The evening was spent with watching Disney movies and eating Virgil's favourite food. By the time they were tired, they both changed into pyjamas, brushed teeth and clambered into bed. While Virgil waited for Patton to bid goodnight to his parents, he stared at the ceiling with a glowing smile on his face, more than happy Patton decided to 'adopt him'.

Only a minute later Patton appeared, sending him a bright smile before he closed the door and flicked off the light, laying down beside Virgil who shuffled to give him space, but Patton didn't let him move too far, pulling him back close to cuddle. Virgil obliged almost instantly, nestling his head under his chin, worming his arms around Patton's waist like the boy did to him.

"Goodnight, Kiddo, sleep well" Patton murmured.

"You too, dad"

Patton's arms tightened around him and he let out a delighted laugh.

"Gosh, I love you"

Virgil laughed, too.

"I love you, too, dad"

For anyone curious, Roman took Logan somewhere private to kiss him. They're in a relationship but because of past traumatic experiences Roman doesn't really enjoy human touch - that morning he readied himself to finally kiss the boy he loved - they shared cute smiles and happy tears :)
