In a quiet hallway all that could be heard were the soft taps of white boots against a glossy coated floor, nearing the end where doors to a large sports hall led to. Who did the boots belong to? The new student, with tanned honey glowing skin and the softest blond hair one would ever see, curled perfectly across his forehead, bouncing with every step he made. Around his smooth thighs fluttered his pastel blue skirt that just reached his knees, a white shirt tucked into it's waist band with a grey cardigan overtop. His face, sprinkled with freckles, glowed with the light layer of makeup he had put on this morning and around his neck sat a necklace with a pretty sunflower piece resting against his chest.
He walked today with confidence he hadn't known for awhile, unfortunately before this school he had been through quite a lot - this new school in a new state was a fresh start and he wouldn't let anything get him down. He also wouldn't conform to not being himself simply because society said so.
He stopped right outside the double doors, able to hear the sound of his new head teacher from inside talking to the entire school body of students. Peeking through the window he could see them all sitting on the bleachers either side of the room, with teachers lined up behind the principle. The principle, he knew to be a woman, had a curled, layered bob that brushed over her shoulders with every head movement she made - with a taller than average lean body, beautiful brown skin and powerful voice she knew how to control a room in an instant, and had that aura of authority while also still maintaining a kind, motherly face. Peeking up from the collar of her shirt also appeared a tattoo which wasn't a secret she tried to keep, and on many occasion has been in full view if wearing a simple shirt without a jacket.
Taking a step back to not be noticed he took in a breath, being told many times 'confidence brought you places' he supposed he'd have to fake it until he made it, as they say.
Shifting his white and black backpack nervously, he breathed out, put on a smile and pushed open the door.
Everyone in the room glanced over, simply because of the sudden different noise but their eyes lingered on the new student - none of whom were aware of his arrival. The principle cut off mid sentence and looked over, giving the boy a quick once over and smiling when she realised who it was.
"Ah yes-! Everyone, this is our new student, Patton Ambrose. Transferring from Montana" she introduced, waving him over to her. Patton's eyes lingered on everyone in the crowd for only a second before flickering over to the head - he knew he couldn't let any of their stares get on his anxiety, if he was welcomed or not didn't matter to him - he needed to embrace who he was and wouldn't let anyone get in his way; not like last time.
He headed on over with a smile more blinding than the sun, happy to wait beside the other four teachers who were there. His eyes casted across the crowds as the principle carried on talking about stuff that everyone is either ignoring or will forget as soon as they leave the room. He noticed how many hushed whispers carried across the students and he felt his stomach churn - if they were nice to him it certainly would be an easier experience but he couldn't expect much. His previous home wasn't at all accepting and he had to move here for his own mental health - he hoped he chose right.
"So-" the principle turned to Patton once she finished, "like I said, this is our new student. I know we don't get many so this is rather exciting - please be kind to him and if he ever needs help I want him to be comfortable asking any of you, alright?" The voices in the crowds rose a few volumes but a few hushes from the head and they were quiet once more. Patton still wore his smile and was luckily dismissed with the teachers before any of the students, who would be leaving in orderly fashion a few minutes later.
"That's why I was called in to assembly today" a tall, jolly looking man grinned as he patted Patton's shoulder, "you're in my class - first period too, suppose the prince wanted me to take you to my class. Follow me" he enthused and began bobbing down the hallway, Patton felt elated he wouldn't be abandoned in the hallway and followed with a skip in his step, listening to the teacher ramble about anything that came to mind. He was a pale, white man, bald on his head completely but still managing an unruly grey beard. Almost reminiscent of Santa, which could also be seen in his round size. He wore brown khakis and a blue stripped shirt, with a cute bracelet barely fitting his wrist. Patton guessed a child made it for him - maybe his own child? Or a grandchild? Either way it was extremely adorable!
In their talk Patton discovered he was a chemistry teacher, had been working in this school practically all his adult life. He went as a child too, so it was almost like his second home. He loved it here and Patton prayed that meant it was a lovely school for the students too, not just the teachers who can handle students.
"And my lizard, you see, absolutely adored by everyone here. I often bring him in sometimes, I'll be sure to bring him in next week for you to meet. His name is Stanley" Patton had listened to everything he said intently, at this point they were outside his class and he used his keys to unlock the door and step right in, letting Patton follow behind. And of course Patton was extremely excited to meet his pet.
"Now- this is the seating plan for your class" he opened up a large folder, to a page where the room was laid out from birds eye view, pictures of each student in their seats. "These" he gestured to the entire back row, "are, what I could call, the 'naughty' ones. While I know for you they'd be seen as the popular students, I'd avoid them if I were you. A lot of these students are nice but him..." he tapped the picture of a boy with brown hair that fell over his eyes but not too thickly, Patton could easily still see his dark eyes and makeup which made him light up - he wasn't the only boy wearing makeup! What a relief.
"This one's Virgil Bright. He's quiet and may come off as shy but I don't think he is. When you get to know him he's a lovely boy with a lot to tell. I bet you two will catch like a wild fire" he spoke promisingly and Patton hoped that would be the case. He took the empty seat besides where Virgil would sit and opened his bag to bring out his cute pencil case - it was pink, designed to look like the zipper was it's 'mouth' with eyes above it, and when opened looked rather funny. Patton saw it in a store and had to buy it.
"Here's your book, just write your name, chemistry and my name underneath, I'm Mr. Lee" Patton did just that, using his pen with a fluffy ball of blue fur on the end which waved around when he wrote. The sounds of students talking became louder as they neared and he crossed his legs under the desk, a subtle nervous habit which he forced himself to do - it looked much more discrete then biting his nails or covering his hands with his sleeves. It's become second nature at this point but was rather difficult to get into at first.
Mr. Lee set up the PowerPoint and wrote the title of the lesson onto the white board, sending Patton a smile that calmed down his burst of nerves but not by much. He watched as Mr. Lee left the class room and made sure everyone was ready to enter his class, which they did a minute later. The first few students to enter were four girls who seemed to be close friends, each of them gazing at Patton instantly and changing their topic of conversation to be about him - fortunately or unfortunately Patton couldn't hear a word but hoped it was all friendly. They sat a few rows from the back together and Patton averted his eyes to the next flow of students.
They either came in small groups, in couples or by themselves, sitting down throughout the classroom. From what Patton could tell everyone had a friend - he seemed too be the only one alone which wasn't wonderful. When a boy and a girl sat right behind him he could easily hear their conversation; "didn't even know we'd have a new student" the girl commented, taking out her belongings needed for the lesson.
"Right? I can't even tell if she's a boy or a girl" the boy added and Patton desperately tried to block them out, the misgendering certainly wouldn't have bothered him if it weren't for the fact he's tried to get away from she/her pronouns for the past few years. Even before he realised he was a boy hearing himself being referred to as a girl felt extremely uncomfortable.
"Patton? This is Virgil" Mr. Lee appeared in front of him, thankfully distracting the boy from the conversations surrounding him. He looked up and at Virgil who seemed surprised to have someone sitting beside his seat, his right hand gripping his purple bag strap tight. Like the small picture depicted Virgil had brown hair that hung over his eyes but the strands were thin, showing off his beautifully dark eyes quite clearly. Underneath them were shadows of black makeup which Patton had never seen before on a person and thought it to be rather unique. He had pale skin which contrasted against his dark clothes that covered up all his body - Patton could sense he was an anxious person, especially from the way he seemed to shrink into his jacket the more he was gazed at by the new student, so he flickered his eyes to the smiling Mr. Lee.
"Virgil, this is Patton" Mr. Lee continued with a soft chuckle, "although I'm sure you know that... you two become friends now, let me sort out the class" he clasped his rubbery hands together and moved to stand behind his desk, while quietening everyone down Virgil slowly took his seat, dropping his bag awkwardly to the ground.
"Hey" Patton grinned and could almost feel the relief flood from Virgil once the boy realised he wouldn't have to start conversation. "Uh-, hey, sup...yeah" that response made him curse himself eternally while Patton only giggled into his hand. "It's nice to meet you" Patton eases him with a small smile and Virgil managed one in return, hurriedly taking out his things and placing them haphazardly on the desk, nearly dropping his note book but Patton managed to grasp it.
"Careful, Kiddo" he spoke softly, sliding the book to him. Patton supposed It was a diary from the way it looked, and the way Virgil held it protectively. "Uh-thanks" he coughed awkwardly and placed it underneath his simple black pencil case, drawing out a pen and flipping open his book, copying down the title which Patton already had done.
"Please don't let the new student distract you" Mr. Lee commented, "is she a boy?" One of the students from the back asked which made his friends around him laugh - Patton tensed and fiddled with his pen which Virgil noticed. Sure, he just met the boy but he wished he could punch those ignorant bastards in the face.
"He's a boy" Mr. Lee responded, "but he's wearing a skirt!" Another at the back whispered-yelled to their friends and they were laughing again, "what did I say about letting him distract you? Please" he sent an apologetic look to Patton but he just smiled in response, not wanting to bring any more attention to it.
While he did want to pass as male that didn't mean he didn't want to carry on wearing 'feminine' clothing, he adored skirts and pastel-coloured tops, shirts and jumpers. Plus he had an assortment of hair clips at home he decided not to wear today incase he would be outright physically bullied - he didn't want any of them ruined or lost. Most of what he owned wouldn't be seen as boy-ish but that didn't make him any less male, in his eyes inanimate objects shouldn't belong to one gender - everyone can wear makeup, dresses, jewellery. He just wished people would be more progressive.
As Mr. Lee finally started the lesson Virgil took a few glances at Patton, working up the courage to say; "you alright?"
Patton looked at him and smiled, heart warming at his concern even if they just met. "Yeah" he whispered, "it doesn't bother me that much" he lied in favour of reassuring the boy who nodded a fiddled with his pen again.
"Your-um...pronouns, what are they?"
Now that? That really made Patton feel better, butterflies swarming his stomach from a simple question which he's never heard before in his life. People either assumed or he had to correct them - never has he been asked and he suddenly had the urge to hug the boy. He didn't exactly have masculine features but he had the luck of a flat chest, with the binder he practically didn't have breasts at all.
"He/him" Patton responded with rosy cheeks and a wide, toothy smile. "You?"
"Oh-yeah the same as you...he/him" Virgil clarified which for him, a cis man, seemed rather out the ordinary but he could sure get used to it if it meant trans people would be referred to by the correct pronouns.
"Thanks for asking" Patton added, a little sheepish. Virgil smiled at the student wholesomely, "it's no problem"
And the two carried on the rest of the lesson closer, talking while they did their work and still finishing off everything Mr. Lee asked them to. Patton learnt that, like Mr. Lee said, Virgil did have a lot to tell. He opened up halfway through the lesson which only became more and more progressive - Patton adored it simply because Virgil trusted him and that made him feel incredible.
He didn't go into anything deep, simply how he moved to America from France as a very young child - as he said that Patton actually picked up on the hint of a French accent he must've learnt from his parents who, in his words, were the most French people he had ever met. The stereotype in two people. He also spoke some French after Patton requested which made him giggle and copy - to which Virgil laughed too at how horrendous it was.
Patton also learnt he has a pet cat called Waterfall, which he and his family often shorten to Water. He got his name after falling and nearly drowning in a waterfall and unfortunately would never answer to anything else so 'waterfall' stuck.
Patton did tell him bits and pieces about his own life but Virgil could tell he wasn't comfortable talking about his past so he avoided asking, which Patton was grateful for.
At the end of the lesson, after Mr. Lee handed out homework and dismissed his class, Virgil worked up the courage to ask Patton if he wanted to hang out with him and his friends at break. The boy gasped and nodded excitedly, "please? I'd love too!" He enthused which made Virgil breath out in relief, smiling too. "Yeah no, they'd all be happy to meet you...what's your next class?" He asked and Patton pulled out his time table, thumbing over it until he landed on it.
"Math! With Mrs. Herring?"
Virgil nodded, "I don't know anyone in that class, sorry. But if you wait outside after I can meet you there? And take you to my friends" he suggested and Patton grinned brightly, "that would be awesome! Thank you so much, Virge" Patton gave him a short hug and skipped out of class - now Virgil was alone with Mr. Lee who smiled his way.
"Like him?"
Virgil breathed out a chuckle, "yeah. I do"
Patton made it to math class after being directed there by a kind teacher - his walk through the hallways were nothing short of awkward, especially with how many people stared, but Patton pushed on and eased a little once walking into the filling math class.
"You made it!" Mrs. Herring gushed, hurrying over and ushering him inside further to her desk. She had bouncy, thick curly ginger hair that splayed everywhere around her, covering her face quite frequently but she didn't seem to mind to brush it away every few seconds. She was very tall and excitable it seemed - with brightly coloured clothes, beige skin and wild green eyes Patton adored everything about her.
"This is my math class, and you'll have me for the rest of the year! We're luckily starting a new topic today but I will be running through a few things with you to make sure you're caught up to speed. This is your book-" she pulled a pink book from a spare pile and handed it over, "and that's your seat! I placed you with three wonderful students who I'm sure will be happy to make friends" she pointed to three girls who sat at a table of four, preparing for the lesson between their conversation.
"Their names are Stacey, Victoria and Becky" she pointed them out and Patton walked over, the free chair sitting beside Becky who looked up at him with an instant smile. "Patton! Sit, sit" she encouraged and he was relieved Mrs. Herring was right. Throughout the entire lesson he and the three girls conversed, they didn't really learn anything about each other - simply a conversation between acquaintances who plan to stay acquaintances which Patton didn't mind all that much - besides he wanted to become closer with Virgil and his friends anyway.
With Mrs. Herring making the lesson exciting and actually a lot of fun - which is nice because Patton didn't really like math - the lesson passed by quick and soon Patton was packing away his things to go find Virgil.
"Why're you wearing a skirt?" Patton heard come from the table behind him, he tensed and looked over his shoulder, eyes drifting up to meet the face of the very tall boy who finally seemed to speak his mind after staring at Patton the entire hour. "They're...pretty" Patton answered as confidently as he could muster but his voice did shake a little. "Skirts aren't meant for men" he spat, everyone else unable to catch it as he spoke so quietly yet harshly. Patton looked away and the boy left - although the main thing Patton got from that was he passed. People thought he looked like a boy! Oh, a dream come true.
"Good lesson?" Virgil asked once Patton left the class. The boy smiled and nodded genuinely, apart from that previous encounter it was a really nice hour.
"She's super nice, the teacher" Patton clarified as they left the school building and walked around the side of it to get to the field behind. "I've heard. I have Mr. Scot for math, he's not fun like Herring but being in her class gave me so much fucking anxiety" he lamented and Patton nodded understandingly, bumping his shoulder into his. "Language" he giggled softly, eyes surveying the field once they reached it. Virgil jittered in his step, staring at his new friend in surprise, wondering if he was serious or not but he changed the topic of conversation.
"Where are your friends? Do they know I'm coming?" Patton asked, Virgil quickly caught up and pointed over to the running track. To the left of it sat a group of people Patton presumed to be Virgil's friends, lounging happily in the sun. "Uh, yeah I texted them last lesson. There's Roman, Logan, Remus and De. Roman's super...dramatic and will probably kiss your hand or some shit, his brother Remus is really weird so just ignore whatever he says, De is hard to get close to. They have trust issues so... but they'll talk to you so yeah. And Logan is freakishly smart, you couldn't tell the difference from him and a robot" Virgil explained, Patton latched onto each word and memorising them as much as he could - he didn't want to get anything mixed up when meeting them and if he were to befriend them for awhile (as long as they'd have him) he wanted to know everything he could.
"Pronouns?" Patton prompted, "oh we all use he/him, apart from De, they're non-binary" Patton relaxed, content knowing he wouldn't accidentally misgender any of them and make them uncomfortable. "One more thing" Virgil stopped walking before they got too close, Patton stood by his side and watched him curiously. Virgil scratched the back of his neck, cheeks twinging pink. "Roman, the one who's wearing a red varsity jacket? Tackling Remus to the ground? He's my um-boyfriend" he squeaked out and Patton squealed, shaking his hands excitedly.
"Really? Kiddo! That's so cute" he gushed, Virgil relaxed once realising Patton wouldn't be so against it - he didn't know why he would but having anxiety was a wild ride. "And Remus and Deceit are dating too. Probably for...like, ever. We can't remember a time where they weren't dating" Virgil chewed his bottom lip for a moment, gazing at the two boys who seemly became soul mates as soon as they popped out the womb. "Which is really weird, but yeah, come on" he carried on walking and Patton happily skipped by his side, once close enough Deceit and Logan looked over, eyes landing on the new boy who waved cutely.
"You're here" Deceit drawled, shutting their sketch book close to slide into their yellow satchel. "Great observation, Sherlock" Virgil retorted but to the two it was all in good fun. "This is Patton" he gestured, which made Roman lift his head up and gasp loudly, pushing his twin brother away and hoisting himself up from the ground.
"Greetings!" He exclaimed loudly, "I absolutely adore your skirt! Where did you find such a beautiful thing?" The boy, Patton knew to be Roman, asked enthusiastically which made the boy light up and giggle happily. "I got it from a thrift store in Montana! You like it?"
"Like it!? I love it!" Roman corrected and Patton giggled again, cheeks flaming red. "Oh- you are absolutely adorable" Roman whispered, gazing at Patton who hid his face behind his hands, Roman erupted into laughter and wrapped his hand around Patton's right wrist, taking his hand to his mouth and kissing his knuckles.
"I'm Roman, the best and most handsome man here" he introduced and Patton grinned cutely, "nice to meet you, Ro" he responded and Virgil finally dragged Roman away, "alright, leave him alone you drama-queen" Roman huffed but happily sat down with Virgil beside him.
"I'm not a drama queen! I'm just a queen" he righted and his boyfriend rolled his eyes.
"Can I sit?" He asked politely, the boy in a green turtleneck jumper seized his chance. "Right here, pretty thing" he winked, pointing to his lap. Patton's blush darkened and Roman scoffed, "not even the last person on earth would want to sit on you, rat" Remus turned his head and grinned wickedly, "that's not what Deecee said when I ate out their pretty little ass last night"
Roman groaned in disgust while Deceit smirked, "sweetheart, I'll think you'll find it was the other way around"
"PleASE can we stop talking about your sex life!" Roman exclaimed, Patton's laughter muffled into his palm - he absolutely adored everyone here instantly. As the twins fell into another argument Logan who had been quiet until now gestured for Patton to sit which he did happily.
"Hey, are you...Logan?" He guessed, everyone else already had a name to a face. The man with glasses nodded, pushing them up his nose. "Yes, and you are Patton" he confirmed, the boy giggled and pushed down his skirt. "Miss. Robinson doesn't typically tell us if a new student has joined. In her words she wants to 'keep us on our toes' but I cannot see how avoiding to announce the arrival of a new student would do such a thing" he explained and Patton found he couldn't move his gaze from Logan's face.
Compared to everyone else he had talked to that day none of them had the same level of beauty Patton saw in Logan. His features were sharp, jawline seemingly able to cut steal. His eyes were a piercing blue that Patton instantly fell lost in - his perfectly neat styled hair looked so soft Patton resisted the urge to touch it will all his might. His skin a natural olive colour without a blemish in sight, and the way he held himself with poise and subtle confidence was enough for Patton to swoon.
And Logan? Felt the exact same way about the short male in front of him. He was enticed as soon as he first laid eyes on him and Newton he hoped he was single. But was there even a chance he was? How could such a cute boy as himself not have people asking him for a date every single day? Even if he was single what was the chance he was gay?... maybe the clothing but Logan didn't want to assume. All Logan did know was he's different; and he liked different.
And how would he even ask without seeing creepy? Or desperate. He looked away and mulled over it for awhile, Patton instead watched the siblings who carried on their physical fight, rolling around on the ground, one laughing whenever getting the other in a locked position. "You'd think they were five years old" Deceit murmured, Patton chuckled in agreement.
"Will they be okay?" Patton had to ask, just in case. "No" Deceit grinned in response which made Patton sit up and look to Virgil, worried about the people he wanted to befriend.
"Ignore them" Virgil shoved Deceit playfully who snorted and opened up a book to read. "They'll be fine, the only time they seriously hurt themselves sent enough shock to both of them to stay..." he eyed the brothers, "somewhat safe"
Patton eased again and as Virgil and Deceit started talking he looked back at Logan who finally finished his train of thought and met Patton's eyes. "Miss Robinson said you transferred here from Montana?" He started conversation and Patton nodded, "yeah! I searched the states nearby that seemed nice and Oregon seemed lovely! So here I am" he explained with a soft chuckle, tucking some hair behind his ear. While that did catch Logan's attention for a moment he quickly moved back to the topic at hand.
"You came here by yourself? From Montana?" He clarified and Patton nodded slowly, realising at his age of sixteen that wasn't a common thing to do. "Wait, what?" Virgil, who had caught their conversation, asked in surprise, making Deceit look up too.
Patton blushed and pushed his skirt down nervously. "Yeah I... well I um, I-it's not-... I've been here before, with my family, so I know my way round... I just wanted...well, needed to get away from home" he explained with a stutter, noticing even the twins had paused their fighting to listen in.
"Must've been tough at home" Deceit murmured, narrowing their eyes slightly. Patton looked away down at the grass that was suddenly interesting. "You wouldn't believe" he whispered and Virgil sensed the awkward, anxiety filled silence and shot Deceit a look to make them relent.
"I'm sorry to uh- hear that, Pat. If you ever need anything just ask" he offered and Patton smiled at him sweetly, "thanks, that means a lot" he murmured and silence befell them all again.
"Want to see my bug collection?" Remus offered and even if a bit odd Patton jumped aboard and followed Remus over to the hedge nearby which he pushed back to reveal the home he had made for any bug that might pass by.
"What could've happened" Roman murmured now that Patton was out of earshot, "look" Virgil started before the other two could, "whatever did happen isn't any of our business. Pat moved here for a fresh start so instantly bringing it up would just hurt him" he defended, Deceit hummed in thought.
"Not bringing it up at all could be detrimental" they supplied and Virgil brushed a hand through his hair.
"We're not close enough to be any sort of therapist-friend yet, just leave it, and him, be" he looked at his friends seriously and they all nodded in agreement. Virgil was simply worried what Patton's reaction would be if any of them asked him about his past - and what scared him the most being Patton leaving their group only after the first day for being so intrusive.
Patton had agreed to spending time with them again during lunch and everyone headed inside to their separate lesson - after the bell rang out, of course. His next two classes were thankfully shared with Remus and then Roman, who initiated and spoke most in their conversation but Patton didn't mind. He learnt they both had a lot of dirt on their twin, and he also learnt both were extremely in love with their boyfriends which he found pure and wholesome.
Much like his first break lunch went by smoothly, although much less awkwardly now they knew what not to talk about. He bonded with the group even if it was a little tough with Deceit but if they had trust issues Patton understood. That day he walked to his small flat with a large smile plastered onto his face, a skip in his step unlike this morning. He honestly didn't expect to become friends with anyone, at least as close as he did with the four boys and Deceit.
He was even added to their group chat and spoke in it once and twice during his walk. He also received a direct message from Virgil as a sort of apology for what happened in break, to which Patton reassured him it was okay. Talking about his past wasn't the worst thing in the world but Patton really wanted to avoid it for now, he'd prefer to settle in and sort out his present before sorting out his past.
Unlocking and opening the door he headed into his flat and breathed out happily.
Life would be good now, he was sure of it.
—
Patton's legs swung back and forth on the picnic bench he sat on, in front of him a colouring book which he found great entertainment in with his friends not too far away. Roman and Remus were having one of their many competitions to see who could swing higher on the children's swings. Virgil was currently drawing graffiti on the underside of a slide and Deceit was sitting opposite him to the left, reading from his book.
Over the course of the six weeks since he arrived he had formed an irreversible bond with each of the boys including Deceit. Once he finally broke through and earned Deceit's trust life in school rocketed into places he hadn't been in for years. The smile on his face couldn't be moved and while some people still got on him for his outfit choice with his friends by his side he was often left alone.
Today he wore a pastel blue skirt with straps going over his shoulders, a baby pink t-shirt and yellow butterfly clips sprinkled throughout his hair. He looked the epitome of 'soft boy' and Logan couldn't get his eyes off the adorable boy with smooth, hairless skin and a wide, blinding smile.
In fact Logan had wanted to ask him on a date for weeks upon discovering he was single after Roman blatantly asked him in the group chat. The romantic of the friends knew love-eyes when he saw them and he could tell Logan had a crush on their pastel Prince.
While Logan was elated he didn't think Patton would agree to dating him, they seemed such opposites and he wasn't exactly in tune with his emotions. Still, after his friends all agreed they would be perfect together he finally worked up the courage that Saturday while they all hung out in the park. Logan just hoped he wouldn't ruin their friendship. Walking over he cleared his throat awkwardly, Patton looked up and smiled at his friend.
"Hey Lo! What's up?" He put down his pencil which was a good sign he wanted to talk. "Can we talk? Privately?" He swallowed and Patton's eyes softened with concern, standing up from the bench and taking Logan's hand, without another word or explanation Patton took him over to the skating area which was thankfully empty today. There was a better park not too far away which most people went to.
"What's wrong, Lo?" Patton murmured worriedly, to which Logan shook his head, face red because Patton was still holding his hand.
"It-...I am fine" he reassured, "I only wondered if you would want to...go on an outing with me this Saturday evening" his voice lowered as he reached the end of his sentence, Patton would suspect it to be platonic but the way he seemed so shy made Patton think otherwise and he smiled sheepishly.
"I'd love to, Lo...pick me up at seven?"
Logan sagged a little in relief, nodding and nervously pushing up his glasses. "Y-yes, I will. Thank you"
Patton giggled and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek, "my pleasure, Logan" and boy did that send a storm of butterflies through both of the boy's stomachs.
A few hours later Logan and Patton both went to their homes to get ready for their date, the other four were told about it and obviously poked fun at the two boys who were extremely embarrassed yet impossibly happy.
Right on the dot like they both agreed to Patton heard the buzzer to his apartment and quickly left to rush down and meet Logan at the doors to the apartment block, gawking at the fact he looked so...handsome. Beforehand Patton had never seen Logan in a suit and holy heck was he missing out- it was black with a white shirt underneath and matching black tie (although he often wore ties).
While Patton looked him over Logan did the exact same to him, holding on the wall next to him in case he would faint even if that would be extremely embarrassing and dramatic. Patton wore a beautiful dress that flared out around the waist and reached his knees, pure white with a pink top half.
Patton tucked some hair behind his ear and stepped forward, "sorry I'm not wearing a binder, I wanted to give my chest a break" he explained softly, having came out to them all a few weeks ago they all knew he wore a binder. Their reactions to him coming out were all extremely sweet and Patton may have cried many, many happy tears that day.
"Patton, that does not matter to me at all. I would much prefer for you to bind safely for your own health. It doesn't alter my attraction to you one bit" he reassured and Patton smiled widely, curling his arms around Logan in a soft hug.
"Lo, you're so sweet" he giggled and Logan hugged him back, "I mean every word" he murmured and Patton sniffled, wiping away the tears that rimmed his eyes. "Thank you, so much"
"It is my pleasure. Shall we?" He gestured to the car and Patton nodded, slipping his hand into Logan's and following him to the vehicle, both boys silent and extremely flustered. Opening the door for his date Patton giggled and thanked him, sliding in and basking in the warmth of the seat. Logan knew how much he liked the car's seat warmers and always put them on when he'd be driving Patton anywhere.
"Where are we going?" Patton wondered, smiling over at Logan who pulled out onto the street. "To the restaurant I have reserved a table for. Is that alright with you? I have plans for after too, if you would rather do that-"
Patton reached over and squeezed his hand, "Lo, I don't mind what we do, as long as I'm with you. And I am hungry, the restaurant sounds lovely"
Logan relaxed and sent him an appreciate smile, heck the two of them were in love. Ten minutes of comfortable talking later they arrived at the very fancy restaurant and Patton squealed, "I love this place! They do the best pasta" he gushed and Logan smiled, "I know you do, I may have been influenced by your prior statements for this place"
Patton cooed and pressed a kiss to Logan's cheek which burned brightly. "You're so sweet, come on, I don't want to be late!"
The two headed hand-in-hand to the restaurant, having the perfect seat beside the window and thankfully far away from anyone else. Patton sat beside Logan in the booth which made the boy stare at him in surprise. "Oh-I'm...sorry, I just wanted to be close to you" he admitted quietly and Logan's heart melted, patting the spot beside him welcomingly.
"It is quite alright, please, I...I would like that too" he admitted quietly and Patton giggled, sitting back beside him and leaning on his shoulder to read the menu together and Logan's heart went wild but in the best way possible.
Obviously Patton ordered the pasta while Logan preferred fish from the special's list. And the night went perfectly, they talked, laughed and complimented each other throughout their meal and by the end of it were cuddled up in content. Skipping out on pudding because they were so full, they split the bill (after Patton made sure Logan wouldn't pay for it all) and they left to go home.
"I still have the other thing I planned if you want? Or if you want to go home that's fine too-"
"Please, I want to spend more time with you" Patton agreed and once again Logan was relieved, smiling just as widely as his date who rested his hand on his for the drive. Logan explained he had set up a surprise in his back yard if Patton would be comfortable which he was - he had met Logan's parents before and they all bonded really well, they even foresaw the two eventually going on a date.
Logan parked his car in the driveway and the two boys walked around into the back garden, towards the trampoline Logan's parents kept around for their own amusement. Patton quickly saw what he had done and gasped, the protective netting was covered with blankets all the way around to make it impossible to see into, only when Logan showed him the entrance could Patton see a large pile of pillows, blankets and comforters placed across the actual trampoline.
Plus, fairly lights hung across the 'walls' which lit it up perfectly. "Awh, Lo!" Patton grinned and threw his arms around him in a hug, "this is beautiful! Can we cuddle? Please?" He begged, already pushing off his shoes and climbing inside. "Yes, we can" Logan responded, for he had wanted to do this all evening. He placed his shoes neatly to one side and followed Patton in, zipping it closed and covering it with the blanket.
He crawled over to where Patton laid down under a quilt, gazing up at the beautiful, starry night sky.
"Do you like it?" Logan wondered, laying beside him. "I love it" Patton murmured softly, cuddling right up to his date and resting his head on his shoulder. "I've loved this whole evening, you're incredible Logy" he added and the boy blushed brightly, curling an arm around Patton's waist.
"You are too. I have enjoyed our time together extremely"
Patton giggled and smiled contently.
"Can we do it again?"
"Of course. Whenever you want"
In the end Patton was right; his life would be good, surrounded by people who loves him rather than hate, he couldn't be more lucky to befriend the people he did.
And, of course, have something a little more special with his favourite nerd.
