"Today is the day!" Roman's voice called through their apartment as he hurried down the stairs and into the living room. "The day we finally catch that villain!" He declared while Virgil tied his shoelaces and Patton wrapped his cardigan around his shoulders. Who Roman is referring to is none other than Logan's boyfriend - his friends approved of him at the start, he was kind, sweet, caring, everything you'd want in a partner but then they all saw the signs, red flags began to flash but they realised it too late.
Logan was in love and without proof they wouldn't go far in trying to help him out, which was what they were doing today. They know for a fact every Friday night he spends the evening in a certain nightclub and they were all confident they would catch him cheating - his kind enjoy this sort of thing they were sure.
"Don't make yourself known, remember, he knows us" Virgil warned, standing up and walking to the hallway mirror, fixing his hair, brushing his bangs over his eyes.
"We'll be careful, Virge" Patton promised with a smile, Virgil nodded and grabbed they apartment keys. Roman and Patton were in on this for two reasons, one; to help out their friend Logan and two; be there for Virgil who cares the most. Neither of the friends want to say it, but the can tell Virgil likes Logan in /that/ way, and they want nothing more than their relationship to prevail.
"He should be there in five minutes" Virgil commented once they all climbed into the car, Roman driving as he was the best at going fast while Patton preferred going a leisurely speed, and Virgil couldn't drive at all. He was learning, but it was taking time.
Patton took the backseat, sitting in the middle, excited to help their friend who they haven't spoken to for a few days - the last time they did their worries for him increased by tenfold, he didn't seem half the man they used to know and he didn't look at all healthy.
"I don't even care if we don't get evidence" Virgil suddenly grumbled, leg bouncing up and down to try and contain his anger, or at least let it out safely. "I'm not letting him stay with that bastard another night" he spat and his two friends agreed with him - even if Patton didn't approve of his language.
They pulled up to the nightclub, looking at the flashing lights and groups of people wandering in. "This is it" Roman grinned, parking the car and turning to his friends. "We know the plan?" Patton then asked, both nodded but Virgil listed it off anyway, "we split up, keep a low profile, as soon as we see him keep a camera on him at all times - /subtly/" he added sternly, looking at Roman as he did so.
"You got it, boss!" Roman responded and jumped out the car quickly, pulling the hood on his dark jacket up before he headed towards the entrance. "If he gets us caught I'll scalp him" Virgil grumbled, Patton merely shook his head fondly, knowing Virgil would never hurt Roman intentionally, but this meant a lot to Virgil - they really needed to get this. They all wanted Logan safe.
Patton hung back to let Virgil enter, waited a few minutes then walked in himself. Inside it was quite full but not too much to make it uncomfortable - Patton worried a little for Virgil, with his social anxiety and all, but he knew when Virgil was protecting his friends, he could push away it all.
The three stayed apart from each other to cause less suspicion, grabbing a drink and making conversation with other people who were alone. For Virgil it was a little harder, he had absolutely no conversation starters and was terrible with keeping it going, but luckily he didn't have to keep it up for long as he quickly found the man they were all looking for.
He was sitting in the booth towards the back, surrounded by four or five friends, all laughing, joking and drinking. Virgil took a seat at the bar besides a shadowed area, keeping his phone out and ready to snap a few pictures - he prayed to everything the man would do something that correlated or cheating - they all knew he had done it in the past so they wouldn't put it past him.
Around ten minutes later they had all found him, sitting in their own seats but all feeling forlorn - he wasn't interacting with anyone but his friends. That was until a female waiter sauntered over, wearing revealing clothing and carrying a tray of drinks. Each of them held up their camera, made sure flash was off and silent was on before grabbing moments of the scene.
Was this weird/creepy? Most certainly. But none of them cared - this was to save their friend from a potential abusive relationship.
Once they all got enough, they left the club and waited by the car, hurrying over to each other and showing off the evidence. "We all got one with him touching her!" Roman exclaimed, then frowned, pocketing his phone. "That sounded terrible creepy and nothing to be happy about - but still!" He got into the car, Patton and Virgil quickly doing the same.
Without an ounce of hesitation they sped off down the road to Logan's home. He had moved into it a few months after their relationship began - honestly the friends were surprised Logan agreed but they didn't judge him at the time. They still don't, they just wished he reconsidered.
"How will we do this?" Virgil broke the silence that settled across the car. "We have to do it...kindly" Patton responded, wincing a little. "We can't just throw it on him" he explained a little, but Virgil shrugged. "He's going to get hurt either way, but I know what you mean" Virgil concluded.
"What if he comes back and we're still there?" Patton then brought up in a moment of sudden worry.
"I'll beat the crap out of him" Roman and Virgil responded at the same time, sharing smirks with each other afterwards. Patton sighed, "just try not to get hurt"
Roman pulled up outside the house, everyone clambering out and racing up the driveway. They knew he was in there as his boyfriend never really let him leave which was enough warning for the three men to know Kyle (the boyfriend) was too controlling for this relationship to be healthy.
Virgil knocked on the door heavily, crossing his arms over his chest afterwards, but Logan didn't respond, he never did, Kyle always answered the door. "Logan! It's us!" Roman called loudly, ringing the doorbell a few times for extra measure, but he wasn't coming. They tried calling but he didn't answer that, either.
"Right, plan B, find a window" with that the three men rushed around the building, desperately looking for a way in, hoping their friend was okay and was just sleeping. "Here!" Patton called, Virgil and Roman finding him quickly. He had managed to slide open a window on the ground floor, both men praising the bubbly one who grinned happily, everyone helping each other in.
"Lo? Don't be alarmed!" Roman called out, "it's just us!"
They waited in silence - no response.
"I swear if he's laid a fucking finger on him" Virgil muttered darkly, Roman and Patton shared a look, wondering if Kyle would survive the next time he came into contact with Virgil.
They didn't need to search much before finding their friend. He was standing in front of the sink, washing up a few plates.
"Logan?" Patton called softly, the two friends allowing him to go first. Slowly, he stepped across the tiles until he was right beside the man, raising a hand and gently resting it on his shoulder, but Logan didn't budge, as if completely unaware of their presence.
"Logan" Patton called again, shaking him lightly. "C'mon, Kiddo, look at me" Patton encouraged, lifting a hand and gently placing it on his cheek, turning his head until his eyes stared at Patton. Once they met he seemed to snap out of his trance, hands pausing from where they washed up, lowering the plate into the sink.
"Patton" Logan whispered, registering him. "Yeah, it's me" Patton smiled back, moving his hand from his cheek, lowering them to his sides.
"Are you okay?"
Logan blinked, then faced forward, drying his hands on a towel. "I'm fine" he responded and the friends glanced at each other in /fear/. Yes, Logan was known for having a monotone voice sometimes, but they had never heard a voice lacking so much emotion. It was so dull, drained, too robotic for him to be okay.
"C'mon, Lo" Virgil then encouraged, leading him from the kitchen and into the living room where they sat him down on the couch. His hands folded in his lap, eyes gazing at the ground, looking like he was waiting for a command.
"Lo, we need to show you something" Virgil began, sitting on the coffee table before him, slowly bringing out his phone and opening the picture of Kyle quite blatantly doing things he shouldn't do with others if he was in a relationship.
"I guess.." he glanced at his friends for a moment, "there's no other way of doing this than just showing you" with that, he handed over his phone, Logan taking it from his grasp and staring at the photo for quite some time. They expected a reaction, for him to be angry, upset, anything, but he merely locked the phone and gave it back to Virgil.
"He's...he's cheated on you" Roman explained just in case, but again, Logan say there, rigid as a rock.
"Kiddo-?"
"I know" Logan responded, "I know he's cheated" he continued, "he tells me every time he does. He sometimes makes me watch" he explained, making the three men gasp in shock, eyes widening with horror.
"Why didn't-why-but" Roman tried to rationalise but he was as confused as the other two. "I can't leave him" Logan carried on, slowly rising from the couch, arms crossing over his chest. "I love him and-and...he loves me" the way he said it made it seem like he was trying to reassure himself more than anyone else.
"If he cheats on you he doesn't love you, Logan" Virgil tried but the man wasn't having any of it.
"You should go" he finally looked at his friends, but only for a moment, as if he was scared at looking up for too long. "He'll be back soon. He'll hurt you if he finds you here. Go home. He says I shouldn't be your friend" Logan turned to leave but Virgil lunged forward and grabbed his arm, none of the friends realised Logan was this bad. A few days ago he seemed fine! But he was also with Kyle at the time...
"He can't control your life like that" Virgil shook his head in disgust, "it's wrong - he can't tell you who your friends can be!" Roman carried on for him, hurrying around to stand in front of Logan, blocking him from leaving and walking up the stairs.
"It's normal" Logan countered, "he's...he is the boss, I must obey him. And you need to go" Logan commanded again, trying to pull out of Virgil's grip but he wasn't letting go.
"Kiddo, that isn't how relationships work at all! He can't make you do anything you don't want to do. You don't obey him, either, he's not the boss, he's hurting you, Lo, manipulating you and we want to bring you home, with us, please let us take you home" Patton tried, placing his hands on his shoulders, but nothing he tried would make Logan look at him in the eye.
"This is my home" Logan argued, "I live with Kyle, here. Please leave"
The friends glanced at each other, they didn't know what else to do so they settled on what they thought was best. Roman scooping up the man who had become scarily lighter than he remembered, carrying him out of the house. Logan's protests were weak and futile, he didn't really move and didn't stop Roman from buckling him up in the passenger seat.
However, when they were all in the car, Roman clicked on child lock to make sure. "He'll be mad" Logan murmured, referring to Kyle. "Please let me go - I need to-to finish cleaning, he'll be mad if I don't" And in that moment Patton buried his face into his hands, silently crying, the state of his friends reducing him to an emotional mess.
Roman and Virgil were both distraught, too, but they were able to withheld any tears. Like they stated they would do, they took Logan to their home, Virgil helping him out the car and holding his hand as he led him up to the door.
"Are you tired? Hungry?" Virgil tried but Logan was silent, he hasn't talked since they began to drive.
"Let him sleep" Roman murmured and Virgil nodded, taking him up to the guest room where he helped him out of his shoes and into pyjamas, making sure to keep his eyes away from anything he shouldn't see and to refrain from touching him too much.
"Lo, talk to me, please" Virgil begged quietly once Logan was standing before the bed. But the logical man didn't make a sound, only blinked. "I'm sorry we let you stay with him, I'm so sorry" Virgil pulled him into a hug but it was like embracing a rock - cold and stiff.
Virgil sniffled and laid him down, drawing the blanket to his chin and pulling off his glasses. Virgil watched as he rolled onto his side, back facing Virgil, his eyes slipped shut and he slowly fell asleep. Virgil didn't linger, he left the room and closed the door, slowly walking down the stairs and sitting on the couch, solemn.
"What are we going to do?" Patton murmured brokenly, Roman sitting beside him, arm wrapped around his shoulders.
"We protect him" Virgil replied determinedly, "I'm not letting Kyle touch him - ever again" he reinforced strongly and both his friends believed him. That night Virgil stayed in the living room, making sure Logan wouldn't try and leave throughout the night, but even if Virgil ended up falling asleep, he was relieved when Logan was still in bed the next morning.
Making his favourite breakfast, he brought it up to Logan's room, setting it on the bedside table and sitting on the bed. "Lo, I made breakfast...toast and crofters" Virgil murmured, shaking him a little.
Logan blinked awake, glancing at Virgil before lowering his gaze elsewhere.
"C'mon, Lo, sit up and eat, yeah?" Virgil encouraged, helping him up, placing his glasses correctly on his face. Moving the plate onto his lap, Virgil watched as he stared at the food for a moment before sliding out of bed. Curiously, the darkly dressed man watched Logan sit on the ground on his legs, head tilted down obediently, holding the plate in his lap.
Virgil felt sick to his stomach - Kyle must've treated him like a fucking dog.
"No, Lo, come on, get up, please" Virgil begged, hurriedly sitting before him, tilting his head up by cupping his face.
"Sit on the bed, please, Kyle's not here - I won't let him near you again" but no matter what Virgil said the man wasn't budging, so he said what he assumed was right.
"You can eat" he managed, hating it, hating it all, but as soon as he said it Logan picked up the toast and began to eat.
"Oh, god, Lo" Virgil covered his face for a moment, standing up and leaving the room, ready to punch a wall he was so furious! How dare Kyle reduce Logan to this?! Forcing him to eat on the floor and obey whatever he said!? He growled at the ides, unable to imagine what Logan went through in that house - he especially hated himself, despised himself, even, for ever letting Logan move in with him, to stay with that sick, sick man.
Virgil paced in the hallway, running a hand through his hair a few times until a doorbell paused his movements. In a flash, he felt like he couldn't control himself - if this was Kyle he was about to be locked up for murder.
Storming down the staircase, he headed towards the front door but Patton grabbed him before he could open it. "Kiddo, kiddo, no!" Patton commanded, pushing him behind him, grabbing his shoulders. "If we answer we're giving him a direct route to Logan - and Logan will go to him if he hear's him, I know it's hard, Kiddo, I want to share a piece of my mind with him too, but think about Logan, he won't be safe, will he?" Patton rationalised, so much so Virgil relaxed in his hold, nodding in understanding.
Roman peeked through the peep-hole, confirming it was Kyle. Silently, they stayed away from the door, sitting on the couch.
"I know you're in there!" They finally heard his voice, everyone tensing. Roman stood up and left the room, coming back moments later with a baseball bat.
"And I think you have something that belongs to me"
"That bastard" Virgil hissed but Patton grabbed his hand before he would stand up, silently settling him down. They waited a few more minutes until they heard a sigh and retreating footsteps, but they all knew he would be back.
"I'll check on him" Virgil murmured and left the room, hurrying up to the guest room were Logan still sat on the ground. Virgil winced - his legs must be killing him. Taking away the empty plate, he handed him a glass of water, telling him to drink it which he did after gaining permission.
"Stand up, Lo" Virgil murmured, doing the same. The man hesitated before he rose up, legs a little shaky. Virgil took the glass, resting it on the bedside table. "Look at me, Lo" Virgil murmured, but Logan didn't, he kept his eyes glued to the ground so Virgil tilted his head up, forcing him to meet his gaze.
"Lo, c'mon, please snap out of this" Virgil begged quietly but he knew that wouldn't work. Instead he let Logan drop his head, staring at him for a few moments before picking up his hand and leading him down the staircase, sitting him on the couch. Roman and Patton watched him, each of their hearts breaking at the sight.
"Let's play Mario Kart" Virgil suggested, the others slowly agreeing, taking a seat. Virgil grabbed the controllers and set it up, handing Logan one but he didn't take it. "I know you like this game, Lo" Virgil murmured, waving the controller in front of his face, in the end he left it on his lap, taking a seat beside him.
Throughout the game he didn't even look up at the screen, let alone play, but the others didn't force him - they shared a silent look, one that told them this would take awhile. But they would help Logan forever without complaints.
Unfortunately, Roman and Patton had to leave for work. They weren't happy leaving Virgil and Logan alone with Kyle on the loose, but they knew Virgil could defend himself if he needed to, so making sure the door was locked they left, leaving Virgil and Logan alone in the apartment.
Virgil turned off the game and thought for a moment - he knows Logan loves to read, so he left and hurried to the storage room that kept Logan's stuff he didn't bring over (which was most of it). Finding the box labelled 'books' he rummaged through before pulling out his favourite, written by Agatha Christie.
Returning, he placed the book in the man's lap. "Why don't you read? You liked that book, right?" Virgil asked, but received silence. Virgil waited a few minutes, then a few minutes more before he left the room and leaned on the hallway all, covering his face with his hands.
He didn't know what to do - was there anything he could do to bring back their Logan? Or was he gone forever? Virgil's eyes hardened at that thought, no, he refused to believe their Logan was gone. He was in there - he just needed help, and Virgil would do everything he could.
Returning to the room he sat down and picked up the book, flicking it open to the first page. He remembered when they were teenagers and Virgil had panic attacks, the one thing Logan did to help him calm down was read to him - and it worked every time. So Virgil would do the same, hoping it might do something.
"Mrs Ferrars died on the night of the 16th17th September - a Thursday. I was sent for at eight o'clock on the morning of Friday the 17th. There was nothing to be done. She had been dead some hours" Virgil began, the author unaware if this is the actual opening line to the book, but going with it anyway. Instantly, Virgil noticed something flicker in Logan's eyes, but he didn't want to say anything or make it obvious he noticed just in case, so instead he carried on reading up until the fourth chapter.
He slowly closed the book and rested it on the coffee table. "I gotta do some work...I'll be back now" Virgil promised and left the room, returning with his laptop which he opened to do some of his work - more than happy his job was online.
For awhile Logan sat with his head tilted down, hands folded in his lap, up until Virgil couldn't bare it. He stood up and left, coming back with a Scrabble bored and it's pieces. He set it on the coffee table, knowing Logan enjoyed the game even if he was playing alone.
"Logan, come here and play this" Virgil spoke up. In a flash Logan was kneeling on the ground, beginning to make words while Virgil felt sick. He hated bossing Logan around but he also didn't want him to sit like that for hours.
Returning to his work, he would often look up at Logan to watch, but he was just playing his game, waiting until he used all the letters before restarting and doing it again.
Lunch time rolled around and Virgil cooked something up for them both. "Lo, c'mere" Virgil called once he was finished, Logan appearing in the doorway a few moments later. "Here" Virgil placed his food on the counter, gesturing for him to take it. He did, but before he could sit on the ground Virgil grabbed his arm, shaking his head.
"Sit here" he patted the table's chair. Logan opened and then shut his mouth instantly. It went against his rules but he wasn't allowed to argue, so he did as he was told, sitting down opposite Virgil and eating once the latter man allowed it.
"Lo, look at me"
He did so hesitantly.
"You don't have to listen to me - or anyone. You can do what you want without needing permission" and even if he didn't believe it then, Virgil would remind him until he did. And boy, it was a long (but rewarding) effort.
The first few days were rough - Kyle kept coming back but no one opened the door for him, in the end when Roman threatened to call the police he stopped coming all together, which was a giant relief for them all.
While Roman and Patton worked, Virgil would stay home and talk with Logan - he'd make breakfast and lunch for the man who didn't really do much, only what he was told to do. They all still played Mario Kart, always giving Logan the controller, but he never played. Virgil also carried on reading to him, every single day, and more and more did Logan seem like he was paying attention to his every word.
Virgil think's there was a breakthrough when Logan broke a plate.
He was upstairs at the time, so came rushing down to see what happened, surprised to see glass shards across the floor and Logan on his knees, visibly shaking as he scooped the pieces up.
"Logan-?"
"I'm sorry" he instantly spoke up, curling in on himself, head kept lowered, not daring to look up. "I-I didn't mean to. I'll clean it this instant, I promise, please-please don't hurt me" and Virgil nearly cried then and there. He sat before Logan, taking the glass from his hands delicately and setting it on the ground.
Logan was quivering horrendously now, sometimes letting out quite whimpers which broke Virgil's heart more and more.
"Logan, look at me"
He did so, tears welling up in his terrified eyes.
"I won't hurt you, I promise, I won't lay a fucking finger on you if you want, this was an accident, you didn't mean it, please believe me - I will never, ever hurt you" Virgil reinforced strongly, gripping his hand in a tight reassurance. Logan stared at him for a long moment, going to lower his gaze when Virgil cupped his cheek, keeping his head up.
"Hey, no, I haven't seen your eyes in ages" Virgil commented, "I missed the colour - blue and green, right? They're awesome. I've never seen anything like it" at this, Logan swallowed, his free hand fumbling with the end of his shirt.
"I have an idea, we'll clean this up and read together, yeah?" Virgil managed a slight smile and Logan slowly nodded, allowing Virgil to help him up. Honestly, Virgil did most of the work but he didn't mind - Logan held open the bin for him to throw away the broken glass into, putting the dustpan and brush back in the cupboard.
"How'd you drop it, anyway?" Virgil asked, Logan froze up a little, hands clasping the end of his shirt tight. "I-I didn't mean to-"
"Oh, no, no, hey" Virgil shook his head, hurrying over, "look; let's forget about it, alright? It didn't even happen! C'mon, I really wanna know the ending to this damn book" Virgil chuckled, walking into the living room with Logan in tow. They sat on the couch, this time Virgil noticed Logan occasionally glancing up at him but not for long - he didn't care, though, this was progress and he couldn't help but grin like a dork.
That night, as Virgil tucked him into bed, Logan spoke up, something he hasn't done before (unless of course he's apologising).
"You-..." he cut himself off, hesitating. Virgil froze, staying deathly silent. "You really won't...hurt me?" Logan whispered, sounding so vulnerable Virgil wanted to wrap him in a hug and never let go.
"Lo" He murmured, leaning down a little, "I promise you - you can trust me, I'll never hurt you"
Logan nodded a little, then closed his eyes, bringing the blanket closer to his body. Virgil watched for a moment, silently leaving the room and finding his friends cuddled up on the couch, not hesitating to tell them everything that happened that day.
A few days later, Roman came home from work with a bag hanging from his hand. "Logan?" He called, the man's head appearing from the kitchen, then quickly realised something and dropped his head, folding his hands in front of him. Roman frowned but he didn't mention it.
"I have a gift" Roman smiled, hurrying over and reaching into the bag, pulling out a blue tie. "I saw it in a shop's window and couldn't resist! Do you like it?" He left the bag on the counter, watching Logan ever so slowly reach up to take the tie.
"For me?" He whispered, sounding astonished someone would buy him something.
"Of course - here, let me put it on for you" Roman encouraged, wrapping it around his neck, tying it accurately, making sure it wasn't too tight. He led him to a mirror, waiting until Logan was comfortable to raise his head and look at himself, straightening it out a little before he swallowed, glancing at Roman who smiled.
"Thank you, Roman" Logan murmured and the man's heart swelled with happiness.
"Anything for you, nerd" Roman responded, slowly pulling him into a side hug, one he hesitantly leaned into.
"Next time, though, call me prep" Roman joked, remembering the nickname he called him when then were kids.
Later that day, the three were sitting on the couch, doing their own thing when Virgil noticed a reflection in the television behind them. Glancing over his shoulder, he spotted Logan in the doorway, clasping a new book in his hands, fidgeting nervously.
"Hey, Lo" Virgil greeted, "d'you wanna read?"
Logan began to shake his head, "not if you're busy" he then quickly had second thoughts, doubting the whole idea entirely. "I'll go" he tried but Virgil was saving his work and getting us from the couch in a flash, hurrying to the man and delicately grabbing his wrist.
"Hey, don't think you're getting away that easily" he joked, "c'mon, I wanna read" Logan looked up at him to make sure Virgil was telling the truth, the man smiled, smiling wider when he noticed the tie.
"Looks good on you" he complimented and Logan ducked his head, staring at the tie with a glow of happiness in his eyes.
In Virgil's room, they sat on his bed, Virgil reading the book while Logan kept his gaze on his lap, becoming more and more used to looking up at Virgil as he read. However, Virgil accidentally looked up took their gaze meeting, Logan quickly lowering his head afterwards.
Virgil frowned and slowly shut the book, moving to sit beside him. "Hey, Lo?"
He nodded.
"I have an idea" Virgil stood up and turned off the lights in his room, pulling open the blinds and drawing two chairs up to the window. "Sit here" Virgil patted the seat and Logan did so, watching his hands fidget nervously on his lap.
Virgil pushed open the window, looking up at the stars littering the dark night sky. "I get why you love space so much" he chuckled, resting his chin on his fist, leaning forward to have a better look.
"It's so...beautiful. Existential-crisis worthy, but nice to look at" he shrugged, peering at Logan from the corner of his eye to see him unable to snap his eyes from the view. They glistened against his eyes perfectly and Virgil found he couldn't stop staring at him.
"Can you tell me the constellations again?" Virgil murmured, looking back up at the sky. Logan didn't respond for a moment, glancing at Virgil a few times, he guessed he technically was told to do something...so, shuffling closer, he began to point them out, voice quiet as he explained them.
Virgil listened to it all, watching as Logan eased more and more, finding it increasingly easier to talk as he rambled through more star facts.
Once Logan was finished, Virgil couldn't help what came out of his mouth next. "I missed your voice" it was a surprise to both, but Virgil quickly continued. "I honestly really enjoyed when you'd spurt out random facts - remember the nights we spent talking about aliens?" Virgil smiled at the memory, "they're out there - looking down on us, wondering what the Hell we're doing to out home planet"
And Virgil's heart stuttered when he heard the noise Logan made. A breathy chuckle. A short noise that was barely even there but Virgil heard it and he hid his beam behind his sleeve.
"And I think if they ever see you they'll be too distracted by your eyes to attack" Virgil looked over at his friend who swallowed noticeably, but his lips wavered and his eyes met with Virgil's.
"They're not that pretty..." he quietly denied and Virgil snorted. "You're incredibly intelligent, Logan, but for once, you a very, very wrong" Virgil left their conversation there, not wanting to push the man who had already spoken so much.
After awhile, he finally shut the window, drawing the blinds and looking at Logan who actually looked...content.
"Sleep in here tonight" Virgil suggested and Logan didn't protest. While he changed in the bathroom, he was over the Moon to see Logan had changed by himself and had gotten into bed without being told to.
Sliding under the covers, Virgil rolled onto his side to gaze at Logan who peered back at him.
"Hey, Lo?"
"..yes?"
"Can you read to me tomorrow?"
"...I-...yes, Virgil, I will"
Virgil smiled and snuggled into his blanket, eyes closed. Slowly, ever so slowly, the two shifted closer until their hands brushed. In the end Virgil chuckled and lifted the blanket up a little, letting Logan move closer to him until they were cuddled up close, arms loosely wrapped around the other.
"Virgil?"
Virgil smiled again, eyes shut tight, stinging with unshed tears. "Yeah?"
"...thank you"
Yep, Virgil was gonna cry-
"You're welcome, Lo. God" Virgil choked up and held him closer still, "you're so fucking welcome"
Weeks passed, and Logan was coming out of his shell further and further, the man he once was shining through - he wasn't lost, they all knew that now, and each of them were ecstatic when they saw him again.
"Logan, Logan, look" Patton came up to the man one day, revealing something from behind his back. Logan looked down at it, surprised to see the cardigan he gifted the boy when they were teenagers. "You kept this?" he murmured, surprised. He was learning to talk more and more, but still kept quiet and made sure to respond shortly.
"Of course! I love it, and I love you, Kiddo! You're my best friend" Patton grinned, and Logan gazed at him for a moment, worried when tears began filling up in his eyes. "You love me?" He whispered and Patton nodded hurriedly, stepping closer, pulling him into a warm, comforting embrace.
"I've loved you since we were kids, silly" Patton giggled watery, "Patton I-..." his voice broke and he hugged Patton harder. "I love you too"
He then leaned back, quickly parting from Patton and rushing up to Roman's room. The cardigan-loving man followed after him curiously.
"Ah, Logan! How can I help you?" Roman asked when he looked up from his most recent script. The man hesitated, pausing a few feet away from him, Patton watching from the doorway.
"Roman do you...do you love me?"
Roman frowned, setting aside the script and standing up. "Of course, nerd, since we were teenagers! As friends, of course, I have my eye romantically set on someone else" he winked at Patton as he said this, the man blushing and looking away.
"I love you too" Logan confirmed, then turned his head, wanting to find Virgil but was happy to see him appearing beside Patton, curious.
"Virgil, do you love me, too?"
The man looked perplexed, "um-yeah, I do..." he felt his face heat up a little, "why?"
Logan breathed out shakily, hands clenched tight. "Kyle-..." his breath hitched "he-he made me believe you didn't love me" he admitted and instantly his friends were by his side, reassuring him that Kyle was wrong with everything that he told him, and in the end Logan cried but they all held him up with a group hug.
That evening was emotional, but ended with smiles and finally, finally Logan jointing in on Mario Kart.
Exactly four weeks later Virgil stood in Logan's room, watching him sitting on his bed, reading silently and contently. Stepping inside, Virgil closed the door, Logan looking up to see who it was, relaxing when he saw Virgil.
Virgil merely smiled and brought two chairs to the window, turning off the light and gesturing Logan over.
"Tell me more about the stars" Virgil asked and Logan happily obliged, spewing out the information he learnt before he met Kyle.
And, once he finished, he looked down at his hand, finding intertwined with Virgil.
