Trigger warning: homophobia

Logan sat peacefully on his couch, reading page after page in his book, finding he rather enjoyed the storyline even if it was more fantasy related. Roman suggested it to him a few days ago and ever since he's gotten into the series, which he would eventually reluctantly admit to Roman who has no idea Logan actually took up on his offer.
In all honestly, Logan was surprised Roman knew what a book was.
With the soft humming of his husband in the background, he felt like life couldn't be better, but when the phone began to ring he sighed, their moment destroyed by another human being. How Logan despised them so.
"I'll get it!" Patton called sweetly, skipping into the living room and picking up the phone, holding it to his ear and listening to person on the other end. Once Logan finished his page, he relented from reading another, instead waiting until Patton was finished to hear who it was.
A few minutes later, Patton stepped into the room with a frown, worrying Logan who sat up and closed his book.
"It's Virgil's school" Patton gulped, "they want us to come in"
Now, Logan was a very calm and collected person most of the time, it was almost impossible to imagine Logan loosing his cool, but at the prospect of his baby boy being hurt he might've gone into a slight frenzy. They adopted Virgil almost a year ago now and recently he's began calling both Patton and Logan dad (well, Logan was dad, Patton was papa) he's still young and they're the protective parents, not too toxic but enough to break a few road laws to get to his school if they called them in.
By the time they reached the front doors, they both stopped and turned to each other, quickly smoothing out the other's hair and clothes before taking a breath and stepping inside, Patton forcing a smile as he hurried to the desk and explained to them who they were. The man behind the reception nodded and told them to wait a few minutes on the chairs.
"This is excruciating" Logan murmured to Patton who reached over and squeezed his hand reassuringly, "hey, if we're being told to wait, I'm sure it's not too bad!" He reassured, that was what he usually did, the times when Logan couldn't rationalise a situation Patton was always there to ground him.
Only a few minutes later they were being brought into an office where the principle sat, along with a teacher and Virgil who had his arms crossed and a pout on his lips. The seven year old Angel looked so annoyed Patton couldn't help but coo.
"Hello, my diamond" Patton greeted, Virgil instantly lifting his head and reaching up to his papa who grinned and happily took him into his lap, sitting on the seat he resided in. He still looked annoyed but very obviously not with his papa who found his pout very adorable and very humorous.
Logan took the seat beside them, turning to the principle who cleared his throat and began. "Mr. Atlas, Mr. Atlas, we have called you in because of Virgil's behaviour towards Mr. Stevenson here" He then gestured to the teacher who smiled at the couple, but both caught onto it instantly, it wasn't entirely friendly, but they didn't comment on it.
"Today is an example of one of his many inexcusable insults he has told him" the principle continued, Logan and Patton both very interested to hear what they meant, Patton looking down at Virgil to frown, showing his disapproval. Virgil opened his mouth but quickly shut it, instead hid his face into his papa's chest.
"He asked the class what they would like to be when they are older" the principle began to explain, "when he turned to Virgil; he said an astronaut, he asked why and Virgil, would you like to repeat what you told Mr. Stevenson?"
The boy huffed, removing his face from his papa's chest to glare directly at the man across the room. "I said cus' I wanted to be away from you"
Patton coughed, slapping a hand over his mouth and closing his eyes, coughing into his hand again a few times while Logan bit down on his lip harshly, clearing his throat too. "OoOh" Patton responded, voice wavering. They needed to keep professional, they couldn't burst into laughter, they couldn't, they couldn't-
Suddenly, Patton was snorting, then laughing, burying his face into his hands and full on cackling which set Logan off who hid his face too in embarrassment, the two grown men both desperately wanting to keep it under control, they were adults for fucks sake! But it was somehow too funny.
Mr. Stevenson looked furious while the principle began shuffling papers on his desk, quite honestly in the same situation as the parents but he was able to hide it more than they could. Finally, Logan settled down, using his sleeves to wipe at his eyes, letting out a long sigh before apologising to the teacher who looked ready to pour steam out of his ears he was so red.
Virgil found himself smiling at the reaction, at least they weren't mad, he didn't like it when his bio-parents would get mad.
"Oh my gosh" Patton giggled, "because I wanted to be away from you" he repeated, and after a moment he was off again, excusing himself out the room with Virgil in his arms. Even with the door closed they could hear his laughter, it was muffled but Virgil joined in, too. Logan coughed again, unable to stare at the principle who pushed his lips to the side, not wanting to smile for that might set him off.
A full five minutes passed before Patton entered the room again, Virgil sitting on his lap once more, face professional. "I'm sorry, Mr" he nodded to the teacher who tutted and shook his head in disgust but honestly? The couple was too bemused to care.
"Virgil, diamond, is there a reason why you said that?" Patton asked the boy which caught him off guard, his biological parents never asked for his side of things, if he was being told off they never really...listened to his protests. He's been going to this school since he first started, and the teacher disliked him from the start, mostly because he was shy, and didn't like talking, so when he was called upon he'd duck his head and ignore, in-turn making the teacher mad, which led him to force Virgil into doing things he didn't want to do. Such as speak in front of the class, clean up, etc.
But he never usually went too far, sometimes he'd argue back but after his biological parent's anger he certainly didn't do it again, but after he said something towards his adoptive parents he couldn't control himself - he became his nightmare because of what he said. And Virgil was most definitely repeating it.
"He said 'fags like your parents should never be allowed to raise a child'"
The room fell to a thick silence, Patton glancing at Logan who looked back to him, both men were extremely lucky, they grew up in a safe neighbourhood, going to a good school, they hadn't actually received homophobia before and honestly? They didn't know how to react but they were almost certain it didn't exactly sting...
"Can I be an astronaut too?" Patton questioned and Logan snorted, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I didn't say anything of the sort! Your little brat's lying!" The teacher yelled, standing up and pointing his finger at Virgil who flinched back into his papa, gripping him tight, eyes wide with fear as they stared at the teacher.
Logan and Patton were informed of what his biological parents were like and instantly knew the teacher just triggered the boy's anxiety. Logan stood up, taking a protective stance before his family, glowering at the teacher who glared right back.
"Do not yell around my son" Logan murmured darkly and he soon closed his mouth. The principle stared between everyone before he felt the need to stand up, too, needing some sort of leverage in this situation.
"Ah, well, it seems we have a predicament on our hands..." he murmured, but before he could continue the teacher left the room in a storm, seemingly to encompassed by embarrassment to stay. "Of course he'll be suspended for insulting your son like that, as for the homophobia we will have to look into it more before action can be taken place. We can't take your son's words as evidence, which I would love to do, my sister is gay herself and when meeting anyone homophobic I just want to strangle the life out of them, but hey? The world we live in eh?" He sat back down, pushing aside some sheets of paper neatly.
"As for your son's comment, the astronaut and all, I found it very funny and I hope he uses it again to people who deserve it"
At this, Virgil beamed up at his parents who both smiled back, Logan reaching over to ruffle his hair which made him giggle.
They both decided to take him home after that, buying him ice cream on the way. "Hey, diamond?" Patton asked once they were home, the boy nodded in acknowledgment, licking his ice cream. Patton smiled and knelt down before him, "you don't have to stick up for us, okay? Especially if an adult is being mean, you could get into danger and we wouldn't want that" Virgil frowned, looking up to Logan who seemed to agree.
"But I love you"
"Oh my gosh Logan I'm gonna cry you have to take over!" Patton rushed out, standing up and blinking rapidly. Logan rolled his eyes and took his previous position.
"You can defend us, Virgil, but as long as you are in a safe environment and you are sure whoever it is won't hurt you, understand?" The boy nodded, stepping forward and wrapping his arms around his dad's neck.
"Dad?" Virgil whispered.
"Yes?"
"I got ice cream in your hair"
"..."
"Patton, you are taking over again-"
