Patton stared at himself in his full body mirror with a frown, fiddling with the blue tie that rested against his chest on top of the white shirt, under the black suit-jacket he wore overtop. To him, he looked stupid, to others, he looked smart and professional. He hated those titles, and would much rather wear anything else to this party like...like..
A dress.
But his parents wouldn't allow it.
He left his phone on the bedside table and left his room, eyes glancing down at his body every so often a he fiddled with tight fitted shirt and jeans that flared at the bottom. He never imagined himself to ever wear a full suit, as a child he dressed up in everything else - to school parties, he would wear his normal clothes behind his parents back - not to be spiteful, but he felt so uncomfortable in suits, and if he wore a dress he was sure to be made fun of.
Walking down the hallway to his sisters room, he rapped on the door and waited for permission to come in.
"Hi, Hazel!" Patton smiled upon entering.
"Hey, Pat" she shot her brother a small smile, her usually straight black hair now bouncing with curls that swayed around her shoulders. Patton walked up to her, gently playing with one of the soft curls in his hand. "I thought you didn't like curly hair" Patton murmured, eyes flickering over to her amber coloured ones.
She sighed, shrugging lightly and turning to the mirror in her vanity. "I don't - but mother does"
Patton nodded in understanding, noticing she tugged up the dress that seemed to be weirdly revealing around her breasts. It was like their mother wanted her to be stared at by everyone at the party. Well, that's what she did want. They both loved their mother - and father - very much, but she was always one for showing off, it happened a lot when they were kids, she would inform all her friends of her children's awards and etc, Patton and Hazel never liked it.
They weren't one for being centre of attention, and all the bragging made it worse for them.
"The dress is beautiful" Patton commented, brushing his hand along the silk skirt that flared out around her waist. "I guess, but..." her eyes wandered to her brothers clothes, smiling lightly while picking up his tie. "The suit looks better"
They both stood in silence for awhile, staring at themselves in the mirror with disdain until they heard their parents calling for them from downstairs. "C'mon, Pat" Hazel smiled, pushing as much optimism as she could into the situation, letting Patton tuck his arm under hers, linking them together before they walked through the house to the front door, smiling at their mother who cooed.
"You both look stunning!" Their mother exclaimed, bringing out her phone to snap a few pictures. Their father watched with a faint smile, hands in his trousers pockets as he waited for his wife to stop cooing over their kids. She wore a vibrant dress herself, making sure it was sure to be the most breathtaking in the entire party.
Finally, after a lot of faffing, they were in the car, driving down the quiet, dark street towards their cousins house. He had moved down recently, and had a party to celebrate, inviting as many family members as he could. Even if Patton felt self-conscious, he knew his boyfriend and two best friends would be there, so that made him happy - he invited Logan, while the cousin who created the party was distantly related to Virgil, so while inviting him, Virgil brought Roman along.
He was sure to have a great night with his friends.
Their father parked the car and their mother was first to get out, rushing up as fast as she could in her tall high heels to the front door. "You alright, kiddos?" Their father turned around to smile at his kids, his hand rubbing Patton's knee reassuringly. Patton always liked the little nickname their father had for them, so he coined the term "Kiddo" for himself too, and found he called a few people it subconsciously.
"We're fine, dad" Hazel replied with a smile, being as truthful as she could. Patton wasn't the best liar, so he left it to his sister who reached over to grab his hand, squeezing it tightly. Patton held hers back, shooting her a grateful smile.
"I'm not saying I can read your minds, but I am saying you can change your clothes in the upstairs bathroom" he winked, opening his car door while his kids stared in shock. He opened their door, letting them get out of the car which he locked afterwards. "It's a good thing you two are the same size, huh?" Their father grinned, letting out a small grunt as Hazel crashed into his chest, hugging him tightly.
"Thank you, Dad!" She cried, he hugging her back just as tight. Patton soon joined in, the three of them happily content for the few moments the embrace lasted.
"I thought...you were against that?" Patton questioned him when they began their walk towards the loud house, their fathers arms wrapped around their shoulders as the twins stood either side of him.
"Eh, only to please your mother" he shrugged, frowning for a few seconds. "Don't listen to her, alright? She doesn't know how much her words actually hurt" he drifted, clearing his throat and smiling once again. Patton gave him a soft side hug, their father appreciating it very much.
After entering the party, the two snuck upstairs as soon as possible, entering the bathroom furthest away from anything else, staring at each other with wide smiles. "So, I wear the suit, you wear the dress?" Hazel suggested, already unzipping it from the back. Patton nodded eagerly, both turning around to undress.
He took of the tie, suit-jacket and shirt, turning around to hand them to his sister with his eyes closed. She was able to keep the dress around her waist while she put on what he handed to her. While she did that, Patton tugged off his trousers, comfortable standing in only boxers while Hazel dropped the dress and quickly slid on the clothes, glancing at herself in the mirror, a smile instantly broadening across her features.
"Uh, Hazel?"
Turning around, she giggled her brother who held the dress in confusion, not knowing how to put it on. He's worn dresses in the past, but this one was confusing, he didn't know where to put what.
Gently taking the dress, she ruffled it up and placed it over his head, his arms going through the correct holes while the skirt part gently glided down his body, just resting above the floor, she quickly did up the zip and took a step back. His eyes lingered on his body, Hazel worried he wouldn't like it but when he twirled around, giggling brightly she smiled too, thinking her brother looked beautiful.
"Thank you, Pat" she spoke, the two sharing a long lasting hug.
"Thank you, too, Hazel!" He beamed. Sitting on the floor, the two swapped shoes, Patton stumbled a bit but he had worn heels in the past, so he wasn't entirely useless. Besides they were only an inch tall. "She's going to be preoccupied, so she won't notice us" Hazel commented while they headed down the hallway hand in hand, her other pocket resting in her pocket while Patton secretly tugged off some lace attached to the dress.
"Ready?" Hazel questioned, turning to Patton who grinned back at her. "I will be" he replied, moving to stand behind Hazel as he tugged up her hair into a high ponytail - what Patton knew to be her favourite hair style.
"Pat? What are you doing?" She chuckled, smiling softly as Patton tied the lace around the hair, keeping it in place securely.
"There, perfect!" He linked their arms again, brushing out the skirt while they descended the staircase. Hazel instantly felt more comfortable as no one was staring at her - even if the eyes were on Patton, he didn't mind, all he did was give them all a twirl and a grin, which resulted in quiet cheers and whistles from the crowd who seemed overjoyed to see a boy in a dress and a girl in a suit.
"You look beautiful, Padre!" Both Patton and Hazel heard the familiar voice of their friend behind them. Twirling around, Patton giggled as Roman bowed down to kiss the back of both of their hands, winking at each of them afterwards. Neither took it seriously as he was gay and had a boyfriend who was standing next to him while he affectionately greeted them.
"And Hazel, I must say you look dashing in that suit" Roman commented, smirking as Hazel blushed, turning her head to the side while murmuring a quiet thank you.
"Dude, shut up?" Virgil gave him a look, Roman resting his arm back around his waist. "You are adorable when you're jealous" Roman teased, earning an elbow to the gut but Virgil found it amusing nonetheless. While those two bickered with Hazel watching on, Patton turned to Logan who was staring at his boyfriend in awe - Logan didn't know his already beautiful boyfriend could make himself look more breathtaking, but he's seemed to have nailed it on the head.
His eyes twinkled under the bright lights above, hitting against the dress beautifully, making him glow.
"Do you like it?" Patton asked sheepishly, Logan snapping from the trance he suddenly found himself in. "I do, love, you look...captivating, heavenly, even" Patton blushed, letting Logan pull him closer, the taller of the two leaning close to his ear as he spoke. "Absolutely irresistible" Patton giggled, his arms coiling around Logan's neck as the two shared a long, loving kiss, Logan's hands resting on his waist, just above the skirt that fitted him perfectly.
"Thank you, Logy Bear" he replied back sincerely, eyes peeking up at him through his lashes. He looked adorable, and Logan felt his heart explode. How lucky was he to get such a boy as utterly amazing and adorable in every way? He didn't know,
but he was going to cherish this boy forever.
