"I can assure you ghosts do not exist" Logan informed Virgil as they crossed the dark, quiet street to near the abandoned, supposedly haunted house. Virgil rolled his eyes for the umpteenth time that evening, by this point he had restored to just ignoring his boyfriend, for there has been many, many stories about this house each one confirming there are indeed ghosts that live inside it.

They finally arrived at the decrepit house, Logan more worried that it would fall down if they were so step foot inside it. With some hesitation, Virgil pushed open the old gate that creaked loudly, almost wanting to alert the house of the two human's presence.

"This is trespassing, Virgil" Logan said while watching Virgil walk up the path that had been overtaken by vegetation. The boy turned around while still moving, shrugged, and carried on towards the house. Logan huffed through his nose, finding this a very stupid idea, either way he quickly followed behind Virgil to make sure he wouldn't do anything that could possibly put him in danger. Other than going into this house, of course.

Virgil went to open the door when a sudden spike of fear shot down his spine. He stared at the old door in front of him, chipped and full of splinters. Clenching his hand shut, he stuffed it into his pocket and gestured Logan to open it. The tie-fanatic sighed but did as he was silently asked for, as he wasn't scared like Virgil. The door, like the gate, opened with a low creak that echoed though the home.

"Can we go home now?" Logan sighed, clicking his tongue when Virgil shook his head and slowly stepped inside. "Have some sense of adventure, jeez" Virgil murmured under his breath, "I do not need adventure in my life" Logan replied, walking up behind Virgil, but the two nearly let out screams when the door behind them suddenly slammed shut.

The house seemed to come alive with noises. Floorboards wheezed, wind howled, animals scuttled. Not a moment later, Virgil was gripping Logan's hand tightly, body tense and on high alert. Logan held back the urge to say 'I told you so' instead, he went to suggest to leave when a thud from upstairs quietened them down.

"Told you ghosts were real" Virgil mumbled, and Logan suddenly forgot about the urge to go home, instead he turned to Virgil with a risen eyebrow. "This house is decades old, it is bound to make noises. Ghosts certainly do not exist, and if we have to spend a night in this house to prove that, so be it" Logan crossed his arms and ventured across the foyer to a different room. Virgil smirked, but hated the feeling of being alone in a place like this, so he scurried after his boyfriend, interlocking their hands again.

Exploring the house was fun; nearly all the ornaments were broken or smashed, glass and litter sprawled across the floor, and graffiti covered the walls. They also noticed the furniture was destroyed behind repair, and the further they looked around, the more they realised something...happened here. It wasn't just left to rot, time couldn't do all this, some rooms looked like someone purposely flung everything everywhere, while other rooms looked like fights had broken out between people, destroying everything in their path.

It was eerie.

"We have the attic and basement to explore, then we can go, correct?" Logan asked Virgil once they closed the door to the last bedroom behind them. The darkly dressed boy nodded, "Yeah...basement first" he suggested a little cockily. Logan sighed, murmuring an 'of course' under his breath. The two walked down the hallway but Virgil stopped when something caught his eye. One of the bedrooms they didn't explore entirely - because it looked boring - was different.

Letting Logan go on without him, he poked his head in and almost screamed. "Logan!" He called, his back hitting the wall behind him. The glasses-wearing boy quickly returned, noticing the panic and fear that had stricken Virgil to paralysation.

"What? What is it?"

Shakily, Virgil pointed into the room to a doll propped up in a chair. "That-that wasn't there before" Logan looked over and tensed, for Virgil was right. He wanted to come up with a logical explanation, but the hair on the back of his neck stuck up when he heard a whisper that made all his thoughts escape him.

"...Roman!..."

It was so distant yet so...real, Logan couldn't decide if he was hearing things, or if someone did just make a sound. He wasn't the only one to hear it, as Virgil gripped his hand harder, gulping thickly, eyes trained onto the doll. "We should..." he tried to tell him, but the doll suddenly fell to the floor, and that was when both boys lost it.

They dashed down the staircase and to the front door, but were horrified to find it was locked. "Virgil, please keep breathing" Logan said while wildly looking around for an escape. Beside him Virgil whimpered, biting his lip harshly as his eyes started to see things in the dark corners and seemingly endless hallways.

"Roman, please stop!"

Another whisper, Logan felt faint. Virgil let himself be tugged towards a room Logan knew had a window, not expecting to see a figure at the top of the staircase. He let out a scream that nearly made Logan fall over, but all the boy was thinking of was an escape route, as obviously someone was in here with them, tricking them, pranking them, planning something that could possibly put them both in danger, Logan didn't know or want to find out.

Logan rushed to a window and tried to slide it open, but it was jammed. "Virgil, help-" he did a double take at his boyfriend, noticing his eyes wide, and mouth parted as he stared at something behind them. Quickly, Logan turned around, spotting what Virgil saw in the doorway. For that moment, both boys felt the life drain from their bodies, each wondering if this was it - if they would be murdered in this house that was falling apart by the seams.

That changed, though, when another figure suddenly appeared. They were different to the first, though. Instead of a shadow, they were shimmering blue and slightly see-through. Arms crossed, eyes set into a stern glare at the figure that slowly began to shine like the second.

"Patton, I do love you, but can I not do anything fun!?" He whined, floating across the room closer to 'Patton' who tutted, shaking his head. "No, Roro. They're only teenagers! It's not fair" Roman huffed, turning his head to stare at the teens who hadn't moved.

"Fascinating" Logan mumbled, peering closely at them through his glasses. Patton sent one more warning look at Roman before drifting across the room to the boys who pressed into the wall behind them as he did. "I won't hurt you" Patton smiled, setting down onto the floor. "I'm Patton, a ghost!" He giggled, twirling around to shove off his ghostly apparition, a cardigan wrapped around his shoulders lifting into the air as he did.

"And that's Roman" he pointed to the ghost that was still floating in the air, pouting. "My boyfriend. I'm so sorry about the doll! He thinks because we're ghosts we have to scare people" Roman instantly threw his arms up, "What is our purpose if not to scare people!?" He cried in defence, suddenly shooting through the air to be closer to the humans.

"You should have seen your faces" he grinned triumphantly, making Logan roll his eyes and scowl. Ignoring the two ghosts as they returned to conversing with each other, Logan turned to his boyfriend who looked petrified, glued to the ground. Logan reached out and held his hand, cupping his cheek so he would focus his vision on him.

"Virgil, I will not let them hurt you" he whispered so the ghosts couldn't hear. "You are safe with me" he reassured the boy who slowly nodded and gripped his hand tightly, timidly staring at the ghosts.

Patton glanced over and sent him a coy smile along with a wave. "C'mon, Roman, lets go, and unlock the door!" Patton called to him, "bye, kiddos!" He waved at the humans before disappearing into thin air. Roman groaned loudly and followed suit, leaving Logan and Virgil alone again, listening to house that settled and groaned.

"Let's go" Logan murmured, not even a minute later the two were walking down the street, house long in the distance behind them. In the silence, Virgil piped up.

"Told you"

"Don't start"
