Trigger warning: self-conscious, slight self-depreciation, bullying

Au

"You're an idiot, Sky - how can YOU be related to Logan Sanders?"

Sky visibly flinched, trying to hide further into the locker he was packing his books inside of, but the group of kids who loitered behind him wouldn't leave him alone. It's usually how his days went - because everyone knows his father is the Logan Sanders, a man famous for his company and how intelligent he is, they bully him about it, because he isn't nearly as smart and never will be.

When they finally gave up and left school to go home, Sky furiously rubbed his eyes dry and slammed shut his locker, the metal clang echoing down the hallway. Swinging his mostly empty bag back onto his shoulders, he trudged his way outside and home. He loves being home, mostly because he can be alone, but he dreads talking to his dad. He doesn't want to explain his day, he doesn't want to tell his dad what he learnt because he can barely remember any of it!

Breathing out softly, he brushed away his growing blond hair and stepped inside the house. Another thing different between he and his father was their looks. Sky basically took everything from his mother, apart from his cheek bones - sharp and prominent, just like Logan. He wishes he could miss his mother, but she died while giving birth and Logan never talks about her. Sky sighed and closed the door, leaning against the wood and listening to the silent house. Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming down a hallway, but he knew it wasn't his father. Sky smiled when the man appeared, wearing his favourite blue polo and cardigan on his shoulders.

"Hey, Pat" Sky greeted softly. Patton rushed over and hugged him tightly, Sky burrowed into him and sighed out happily. "Hi, Kiddo! Gosh, I've missed you" Patton gushed, leaning back and kissing his forehead. Sky allowed him to because he not-so-secretly loved it and Patton knew that. Affection is something he adored, something he never got from his father.

"I've missed you, too Patton" Sky smiled, "when's dad home?" Patton looked away thoughtfully, scrunching up his lips in thought. "Oo! Around eight?" Sky nodded and excused himself, hurrying up the staircase and walking into his fathers room. Swinging his bag onto the bed, he searched through it and pulled out a leaflet. He read over the front again.

Thinking of adoption?

He sighed out and wiped at his eyes. It would be better this way. Logan wouldn't have a disappointment anymore. He placed it on his dad's bedside table before hiding away in his room, watching television until Patton called him down for dinner. Patton wasn't around often, his job as a vet took up a lot of time, but whenever he came over he always cooked food for Sky. He smiled wistfully and wandered into the dining room, sitting at his usual spot with Patton opposite. His favourite; lasagna. "Thanks, Pat. This is amazing" Sky commented after swallowing a bunch of melted cheese and beef. Patton giggled and shrugged bashfully. "No worries!"

They conversed for a little longer until they both finished. Sky helped him clean up and hugged him when he had to go. "Sorry, Kiddo, I'll stay if you want! Until Lo comes back?" Sky shook his head with a reassuring smile, "nah" he waved off, "they called you, they need you. I'll be fine" Patton smiled softly and stroked his cheek gently, kissing his forehead again. "See you soon, Kiddo"

"You too, Pat" Sky waved him off until he disappeared down the street. Closing the door, he vanished off to his room, feeling his stomach clench with anxiety a few hours later when he heard the door open and shut. Muting his T.V, he strained his hearing, listening to Logan move around the first floor until he thumped up the staircase and down the hallway to his room. Like usual, his dad knocked, but their conversations usually never lasted longer than five minutes unless Logan was ranting passionately about one thing or another Sky didn't really understand.

"May I come in, Sky?"

"Sure" Sky called back, shifting up further on his bed. The door opened and Logan appeared in the doorway, wearing his crisp, navy suit and favourite tie. "Salutations" Logan nodded, awkwardly gripping the doorknob. He never knew how to interact with his son - low and behold, his social skills weren't exactly perfect, especially towards a teenager he barely knows anything about. "How was your day?"

"Fine" sky replied simply, like always. Like routine. "Yours?" He asked back.

"It was adequate. Sometimes Sandra couldn't understand personal space" Logan shuddered and straightened out his tie. "But other than that, it was fine" Logan nodded for confirmation. "Did Patton come over?"

Sky nodded.

"I trust he made you dinner?"

Sky nodded again. "Good" Logan sent him a tight-lipped smile before closing the door and heading further down the hallway to his room. Sky sat up on his bed fully, flicking off his television and playing with his hands nervously. He hoped, prayed Logan would see the leaflet and considerate it. Sky loved his father, so, so much, which was why he wanted this - so Logan could have a better life without worrying about a teenager. Swallowing thickly, he waited for what felt like years until another knock sounded at his door.

"Come in" He murmured softly. Logan did so, and Sky instantly spotted the leaflet in his hand. "Sky, did you put this in my room?" He questioned, tone and expression not really giving anything away. Sky ducked his head and nodded, closing his eyes and preparing himself for Logan to agree, for him to send him away. He was a disappointment, this was for the best, and he would not cry until he was alone, possibly living in the orphanage, or with new parents who don't need a smart child. Say it, Dad, Sky silently urged, eyes clenched, say it, say it, say something, anything!

But he didn't. He didn't say a word. The door closed, and sky felt a sob slip past his lips, body falling forward a bit as it hunched over and he placed his head in his hands. He hates him, he hates him, he hates him-

"Sky" a soft whisper startled him from his thoughts. Two arms wrapping stiffly around his body made him tense. Logan tried to comfort him, but for so long it felt so awkward, unnatural, almost. Like this interaction between the two should never happen. Sky breathed in a wavering breath and leaned into his father's chest, which was when Logan's arms relaxed, and the hug Sky was cradled into swarmed with warmth. "Sky" Logan repeated, surprising the boy with how upset his voice sounded. "Why would you ever think I would put you up for adoption?" Logan whispered ludicrously into his hair.

Sky shrugged and wiped his eyes. "B-because I'm...I'm a disappointment"

"Who told you this?"

"Myself...people at school.." Sky sighed and pulled back, meeting his eyes, "dad, it's not hard to realise I'm stupid, I'm dumb, I'm your son yet I can't even do simple math! I-I mean, it's always in the news, people won't leave me alone!" Sky's voice ricocheted off the walls. "Why can't I-I be as smart as you?!" He cried, standing up from the bed, tears falling freely down his cheeks as Logan watched on, paralysed in shock at the outburst. "Why?" He repeated, firmer, "why am I so d-"

"Shut up" Logan's stern voice was stone cold and loud. Sky's mouth clapped shut instinctively, watching as his father stood up and yanked him back into a hug. "Don't you dare say another word" Logan ordered quietly, bending down to be Sky's height. "The only way you could ever disappoint me is if you didn't pursue the future you want. You don't need to be intelligent and follow in my shoes. You never, ever need to prove yourself to those heathens of news reporters. You only need to be...you" Logan flickered his gaze between his sons eyes before he hugged him again, Sky wordlessly began to cry again and hug back.

"D-dad-I-I-" Sky choked on his words, "I'm sorry" he somehow managed, "I-I love you"

"I love you, too. And I'm sorry. I haven't showed you enough attention, I thought you were okay. But, you should have told me about this, Sky. I will drop everything to help you, wherever I am, whatever I am doing. Understand?"

Sky hadn't seen this side of his dad in so long, he really, really missed it. Nodding, Logan smiled softly and stood up, rocking him back and forth in a tight hug. "Can-" Sky hiccuped, grabbing at his dad's shirt. "Can we watch a movie? T-together?"

"And cuddle on the couch with popcorn? I would want nothing more" Sky began to grin and the two quickly changed into more comfortable clothing. Cuddled up on the couch, Logan put on 'Meet The Robbinsons' every so often, whispering words of reassurance to his son, or just the simple 'I love you'. Sky didn't think he would ever get enough of it. He smiled throughout the entire movie, even if some parts made him a tad emotional.

"Dad?" Sky murmured sleepily. Logan hummed in response.

"Do you..." sky yawned, cuddling into his father further. "Do you...like...Patton.." he breathed out, lips parted, eyes closed, fallen asleep. Logan blushes scarlet at the question, but his son was asleep, so he didn't have to answer, did he? No. He would only be talking to himself. There would be absolutely no point whatsoever.

"With all of my heart"

Bonus: Logan and Patton getting together?

Sky sneakily watched through the banister at his father and Patton who were standing in the foyer, Logan helping Patton into his jacket. "Thank you for lunch, Lo!" Patton grinned, stepping over towards the door. "It was nice to cook with you and Sky. We should do it again" this was Sky's perfect opportunity to step in. Before Logan could respond, he shot up and hurried down the rest of the staircase, appearing at Patton's side. "It was like we were a real family"

Patton smiled and reached up, ruffling his hair softly. Logan's mouth went dry at the insinuation. He avoided eye contact, and nodded his head stiffly. "Quite" He murmured almost silently. Sky cocked his head, raising his eyebrow in confusion at Patton who smiled sadly and held Logan's hand softly. "No one will replace her, Lo"

Sky instantly knew what he did wrong.

"There will always be room in your heart for her, and someone else. You deserve to find that someone else, Lo. Please don't push anyone away, I hate seeing you so alone.."

Logan lifted his eyes to meet Patton's. "Maybe I can learn to love again" he slowly opened to the idea, holding Patton's hand back. "If you would agree to help"

"With a kiss, perhaps" Sky winked. Patton blushed and stuck his tongue out at the boy. "Actually" this made Patton's heart skip a beat, "I don't think I would mind"

Patton's jaw wanted to drop open in shock then and there. Sky smirked, gave him a finger gun and twirled around on his feet, leaving before he would see anything he didn't want to. "Really?" Patton whispered for conformation. Logan nodded with a sheepish smile. Patton's giggles filled Sky's ears, and he couldn't help but glance over his shoulder to see them wrapped in each other's arms, sharing their first, cute but awkward kiss.

Sky smirked. While Logan may be a scientific, PhD doctor, Sky was most certainly a qualified Love Doctor.
