A massive cliché - Virgil & Roman & Logan & Patton

12:19pm

Trigger warning: many, many, too many cliché's lmao

Au

It all started on the sixth of November, the day four boy's lives changed forever.

It was a start of a new day, Roman got up bright and early, fixing his hair, dressing in his impeccable clothing with the sound of his family creating a ruckus throughout the house. He smirked at himself in the mirror, nearly swooning over how attractive he was. Picking up his school bag, he manoeuvred past his siblings toys and slid down the banister, combing some brown hair back in place after a few strands fell over his eyes.

"Roman, you look like an idiot" his sister piped up from the couch like she did every morning. Roman leaned on the doorway with a risen eyebrow, glancing down at his black, leather outfit. "Nu uh! I'm a bad boy, this is what we look like!" He defended, crossing his arms and pouting like a real bad boy. She merely rolled her eyes, muttering something under her breath.

Roman sent a dazzling smile to his younger siblings before he called out a loud 'goodbye' to everyone else, waltzing out the house and closing the door with his foot. While heading down the street, hands in his pockets, bag hanging from one strap on his shoulder, he passed by a house home to the nerd of the school, Logan.

Like Roman, he had gotten up early, wearing a navy shirt, tie, and black trousers. His hair was sleeked back, keeping up his professional persona that had become apart of him at this point. He was an only child, so he could move around his room packing his school bag in peaceful silence. Downstairs, his mother and father were in the kitchen, father reading the newspaper while his mother was cooking breakfast.

"Hello, Logan!" She beamed once she saw him, hurrying over and kissing his forehead. "Sleep well?"

"Indeed" Logan responded and sat at the table, eating up his breakfast while his parents talked about mundane things he didn't care enough about to listen to. "I shall see you both later" he finished, sending them both a slight wave, walking out his house and down the street, the same way Roman went ten minutes earlier, to get to school.

As soon as he walked through the gates, he spotted the popular bad boy student (Roman) surrounded by his usual entourage of friends. Scoffing under his breath, Logan carried on along the cobble path and up the stairs, into the cool building, a stark contrast to the warm air outside. He had heard from the gossip floating through the halls that there were to be two new students today. He hoped they didn't bother him. The likely hood of them doing so were slim, however, as Logan kept himself preoccupied with his work, never one for interacting unless he had to - and even then, it was on an acquaintance level, never friendly.

Opening up his locker, he plucked out a few books he would need for that day. His locker was on the edge, near the corner, so sometimes he had to avoid people's close calls to brushing into him. Today was different, however, as when he closed the locker and turned towards the corner, he bumped straight into someone who seemed to be in a hurry. They both fell to the ground, items gliding across the smooth marble floor. "Oh, gosh!" A voice unfamiliar to Logan yelped, "I'm so sorry! Here, let me help!" They pleaded, holding Logan's hand and bringing him to his feet.

They paused as soon as their eyes met, breath hitching inside their throats. "Oh.." the boy whispered, "hey...sorry, I-I wasn't looking where I..I was going" he could barely speak, for Logan's eyes were like a magical trance, one he couldn't snap out of. For Logan it was the same, in his arms was the new student, and he suddenly took back his wish of the new pupils not bothering him.

"It is quite alright" Logan murmured, finding himself and pulling back. "I am Logan" he greeted, "you must be the new kid" the boy nodded happily, "Yep! Patton!" He politely spoke back, bending down to pick up their books. "Here, let me help" Logan offered and bent down, too, but they both reached for the same book, their hands brushing. Their eyes met again, blushes rising on both of their cheeks.

"Sorry" Patton giggled sheepishly, handing his books over and standing up. "See you around?"

"Y-yes" Logan swallowed, "have a nice day"

"You too!" Patton waved and skipped away, leaving Logan pressing a hand over his beating heart.

Logan parted from the hallway going the opposite way, but the space wasn't abandoned for too long. Roman found himself humming a tune while gliding across the marble floor, turning a corner only to be stopped in his tracks when someone else, smaller than he, crashed into his chest. With the sudden force and shock of it all, he fell to the ground, along with whoever bumped into him, gasping in shock.

"Fuck" the kid muttered, sitting up and rubbing their elbow. "Shit, sorry, you alright?" They asked Roman who sat up, too, eyes clenched shut as he willed away the dull throb. "Peachy" they replied, shuffling forward to get a better stance to stand, the new kid doing the same, only for their faces to suddenly become inches apart. Their eyes met and the world around them froze.

Until the new kid broke the silence.

"What the fuck are you doing?"

Roman jumped back in alarm, "What am I doing?" He repeated, "What are you doing? Why are you staring at me? Ugh! This is your fault! Maybe if you watched where you were going" Roman dramatised, standing up and grabbing his shit. "Well, sorry" new kid exaggerated, grabbing his books he hadn't put away yet, too. "But fuck you, it's your fault, too" they retaliated, but before Roman could respond their hands landed on top of each other as they tried to pick up the same book. Once again, their eyes met, and their surroundings misted to black.

"You're doing it again" Roman gritted, snatching his book and standing up straight. "Ugh! New kids" he cried in disdain, walking away down the hall in a flurry. The new kid - or, Virgil - rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Fucking drama queen" He muttered, walking down the other way to Roman.

Later that morning, Patton worriedly headed down the hall, gripping the map tightly in his hands. He had no idea where he was going, due to being new, and couldn't exactly ask anyone, as they were all already in their class. Although, his prayers were answered when he heard laughter from down the hall. Hurrying down, he turned to see a group of older boys leaning against the walls, laughing about something Patton didn't catch. After gazing at them, he realised these were the bad kids, and he probably shouldn't be involved with them. Trying to turn and dash away was harder than he thought, for when he tried, they all called and said 'hey look, the new kid!'

He wanted to run but a hand was on his shoulder, whipping him around and slamming him into the locker. He winced, dropping the map, hands quivering as he met the bullies eyesight. He looked sinister. "Why aren't you in class, new kid? Lost?" They taunted, surrounding him so he had no escape. "I-I-please let me go" he begged, which only made them laugh and mock him further.

"I advise you do let him go, otherwise the consequences will be severe" A monotone voice sounded behind the teens. They all turned their heads to see the nerd of the school - Logan - standing there, adjusting his glasses and holding a rather thick book in his arms. "What're you gonna do? Bore us to death?" The boys laughed, all the while Logan sighed.

"I suppose you asked for it" he suddenly gripped the book in his hands and swung it across the main bullies face, sending him spiralling to the ground. He jelly-legged the second bully, smacking the back of his head, too, and the third backed away, giving Logan time to grab Patton's hand and run down the hallway with him, entering a classroom before they could chase after them.

"Gosh, Lo, that was amazing!" Patton gushed, pulling him into a hug. "Thank you so much!" He cried, hugging tighter. Logan tensed in his grip, slowly, ever so slowly hugging him back. "You are welcome, Patton" he murmured, Patton pulling away too soon, leaving Logan feeling cold.

"Are you okay?" Logan nodded and fixed his glasses to distract himself from his beating heart and flushed cheeks. "Yes. Perfect. Are you?"

"I am now" Patton smiled softly, nervously twisting on his feet. "Can you help me get to class?" Patton asked shyly, Logan nodded in agreement. "Your class is the same as mine" Logan commented after looking at his schedule. "Come with me" Patton buzzed in excitement as he followed Logan down the hallway to their classroom.

"I apologise we're late" Logan said to the teacher after they entered, "we had a slight run-in with a Chad and his gang"

"Ah, no worries!" The teacher smiled, "everyone, this is our new student, Patton!" The teacher introduced while Logan walked through the gabs between the two-seater desks, sitting at his which was to the far left of the classroom, directly at the front. "Sit anywhere, sweetheart" Patton nodded and scanned the classroom - low and behold the only chair left was beside Logan.

"Looks like you're stuck with me" Patton giggled once he sat down. Logan smiled.

"I don't think I will mind"

While they spoke, a few hallways over Virgil had his arms curled around his stomach, doubled over in pain after one of the bullies punched him in the stomach. "Never mess with us, freak" they muttered into his ear, shoving his shoulder hard against the wall. He winced and gritted his teeth, glaring at the taller, older boy who smirked in amusement.

"Chad, Chad, Chad" came a familiar voice. Virgil spotted him from the corner of his eye. Roman. "What are you doing?" He asked, leaning on the wall beside Virgil and raising an eyebrow. Chad let him go, holding his arms up in defence. "Nothing, Ro. Just showing the new kid here the ropes"

"What?" Roman drew his eyebrows together in confusion, finally looking down to see Virgil picking up his bag from the floor. "Oh!" He declared in surprise, "Oh Disney no, I don't care about him! You still haven't paid me!" He explained, stepping by Virgil and holding out his hand, raising an eyebrow. Chad huffed and slammed a few notes into his hand. "Pleasure doing business with you, Chad" Roman slapped his shoulder and whistled as he walked away. By the time Chad turned back to Virgil, he was straightening out his clothes.

"What a dick" Virgil grumbled, referring to Roman.

"Oh, new kid, so much to learn" Chad smirked and darted away.

By the time Virgil reached his class, his stomach dropped in the realisation that Roman was in the same class as he. Surprise surprise, the only free remaining seat was beside him. "Virgil is our new student! Make sure to make him feel welcome!" The teacher introduced, sending him a smile afterwards. Virgil shot her a tight lipped smile back, not wanting to walk over to Roman and take the only seat.

Roman seemed to understand, too, and scrunched his face up in distaste. Inch by inch, Virgil shuffled down the isle and slowly eased himself into the seat. They were both tense and awkward, wondering if this would actually work out, but when they both glanced at each other, they book shook their head and said 'no' at the same time.

Standing from his seat, Roman grabbed his bag and walked across the classroom. "Alice!" He declared her name boldly, "I know you have always dreamed of sitting in the back!" He pointed to his seat and she gasped, thanking Roman before rushing over. The boy took a seat beside the student Alice once sat by, smirking at Virgil who slumped in relief. Sitting beside Alice he couldn't be more grateful it wasn't Roman.

And the lesson went on smoothly.

"Alright, everyone!" The teacher called to get the teenagers' attention. "Today you'll all be starting a project! Paired, obviously, and I will choose your partner" Logan and Patton perked up in their chairs, delightedly excited. Logan always loved projects due to him being able to complete all the work while his partner went off and did shit all - Patton loved them because it was the perfect opportunity to make new friends.

"Logan, you will be paired with...Patton!"

Patton gasped and clapped his hands happily, "oh, isn't this great, Lo!?" He beamed from ear to ear, lighting up his entire face. Logan smiled back, way more dialled down. "Yes, it is. Would you prefer I do the work?" Horror flashed over Patton's face as he shook his head hurriedly, "of course not! I want to help in every way I can! How about we meet after school tomorrow? I still need to unpack" he giggled with a shy blush. Logan nodded in agreement, shuffling a few papers on his desk.

"That sounds wonderful"

In a few rooms over, Roman and Virgil's class would also be paired up for a different type of project. As each name was called, Virgil dreaded who he might be partnered up with. Whoever it was, he hoped they wouldn't be a slacker, and force Virgil to do everything.

"Virgil, you're with Ro..."

No, no, no!

"Robert!" She finished, chuckling lightly. "I nearly said Roman! Oops!"

He held his face, relieved. Roman also let out a breath he didn't realise he was holding.

"Roman, you're with Vicky!"

"Perfect!" Roman grinned, winking at the girl he was friends with.

For one day of school, a lot had already happened.

The next day, now Patton was a little more familiar with his surroundings, he actually managed to find his locker, and messed around with books as he checked and re-checked which he would need for that day. For some odd reason, he had managed to get to school quite early, so early it was basically abandoned. He was still slightly jet lagged, so he woke up sooner than intended. Either way, he was fine with the peaceful silence - plus, he could run in the hallway with no consequences!

Closing his locker, he turned the corner and spotted another boy down a few yards from him. He wore mostly dark black clothes, with touches of purple, large headphones covering his ears. Patton's wave seemed to catch his attention, so much so he removed the device and rose an eyebrow. "Sup..." he greeted awkwardly, making Patton giggle and skip closer.

"Hello, you!" He responded, "I'm Patton! The new kid" he explained, thrusting his hand out. Virgil flinched a little but shook it tentatively, anyway. "Virgil...uh, I'm new, too"

Patton gasped, "really? That's awesome! Have you made any friends yet?"

Virgil rolled his eyes at the memory of who he did speak to. "No, but I'm pretty sure I made an enemy" Patton frowned in slight concern, cocking his head to the side. "Oh, gosh, that sucks...I hope they don't bother you" Virgil shrugged and quirked his lip up a little, "nah, he couldn't defend himself from a ladybug" feeling a little elated he made Patton laugh, he nervously pocketed his hands.

"Why're you here so early?" Virgil decided to ask.

"Oh!" Patton chirped, "jet lag" he excused, "huh...same, actually" Virgil shrugged, "anyway uh..probably should try and find my class again"

"Here, let me help!" Patton suggested, even if he wasn't entirely confident with his knowledge of navigation. "You sure?" Virgil rose an eyebrow, "wouldn't want to be a bother.." Patton shook his head, "really! I would love to help!" And so the two boys set off on a grand adventure, trying to find their classes and come across familiar hallways. The school was quite a big place, and honestly very confusing in which the way it was built, ending up with them going in circles, finding themselves in rooms they didn't know existed, and somehow on different floors, unable to remember even climbing a staircase.

"Here!" Patton grinned, throwing his arms up towards the classroom door. By the time they had found it, the school had mostly populated by the other students, and the bell was actually about to ring. "Thanks..oh, uh, Pat?" Virgil called to the boy before he could escape, cocking his head as he waited for whatever Virgil wanted to say.

"I made a new friend" he grinned confidently. It took Patton a moment, but he gushed when he realised the insinuation. "Awh! Virgil!" He giggled and hurried over, dragging him into a short, tight hug. "That's so sweet, you're my friend, too! See you later?"

"Sure, see ya" he saluted with two fingers, smirking as he watched Patton wave and hurriedly push through the crowds of students getting to class.

He turned a corner, knowing his class was at the end, but once again, fell into someone. They both yelped, but whoever it was was more prepared than Patton, and actually caught him before he fell, pulling him up close to his chest, Patton gripping his forearms. "L-Logan!" Patton blushed, "h-hi.." he squeaked, trying to pull away but in turn it made Logan stumble and the two made noises of alarm as they fell to the ground, Logan on top of Patton who squished himself into the ground, breath stopping in his throat as he stared at Logan's face inches away from his own.

"I do apologise, Patton, this was not meant to happen" Logan murmured, staring for a few more seconds before he stood up, dusted himself off and hauled Patton off of the floor. "Hey, it doesn't matter!" Patton grinned, "are you alright?" He worried after, though. "I am perfectly fine. Need me to walk you to class?" He offered, as before this he was actually searching for Patton in case the boy got lost again. Patton nodded in agreement and skipped beside Logan towards their class.

Ten minutes later, Virgil excused himself from class to use the bathroom. He relieved himself, washed his hands and dried them with a few paper towels before leaving and bumping straight into him. The floor underneath his feet was weirdly slippery, and he fell backwards, only to be caught by Roman, his arms curling around his waist, leaning over the boy with wide, surprised eyes.

When they realised who they were; both scowled. "Ugh. You" they muttered, Virgil pushing at him as a sign for Roman to let him go, but it probably wasn't the best time to do so. Roman yelped as Virgil nudged his foot, collapsing onto Virgil, splattered against the floor, both boys groaning painfully. "Jesus Christ, Ro" Virgil tried to push him away, "fuck off"

"You pushed me over!" Roman retaliated, using his elbows to prop himself up, faces millimetres from Virgil's, able to feel his breath fan against his cheeks. "Again with the staring" Roman muttered and rolled away, pushing himself up and grimacing in dismay at the few wet patches across his clothes. "How do we keep meeting like this?" Roman questioned, baffled.

Virgil rolled his eyes, "probably because you still don't look where you're going"

"Or it's fate"

They stared, blinked, and recoiled at the idea, parting away from each other fast.

During lunch time, Logan made his usual walk to the school library, walking up the few flights of stairs and opening the door. He breathed out calmly, always loving the peaceful atmosphere shrouding the large room filled with different assortments of books Logan adored. Waving at the librarian politely, he headed to his favourite section, about to sit down at his table when he realised someone was already seated there.

Setting his bag down, he took a seat and brought out his binder. Roman looked up from his book and grinned, "Greetings, Logan, is it?"

He nodded, "and you are Roman, correct?"

"Correct, Nerd" Roman winked, "ah, sorry, would you prefer to be alone?"

"If I did I would have chosen a different table. I truly do not mind" Roman nodded and smiled, turning back down to his book, resting his cheek in the palm of his hand. The two sat in comfortable silence for awhile, the noise of Logan writing and Roman flipping pages easing them into complete relaxation. It even lingered when Logan broke the silence.

"Fahrenheit 451?" Logan questioned Roman's book choice. The boy rose his amber coloured eyes over the top of the book, smiling and nodding. "I watched the movie, but many people told me the book was better...so I had to fulfil my curiosity, and this has made me want to read before watching when it comes to other movies" this actually surprised Logan, he didn't think someone like Roman would be so into reading. "And" he continued, "it's so uplifting when you finish them!" He gushed, staring dreamily at all the books that surrounded them, "I wish to read them all, but alas" he shrugged, "I cannot. Plus, my siblings need my constant care and attention" Logan nodded in understanding, placing his pen down on the wooden table.

"Sometimes I visit the public library in the city outside of school. We could visit and read together, if you desire?"

Roman smiled at the suggestion, "Yes! That sounds perfect. I haven't visited the library in quite awhile, unfortunately. Still" he shrugged, "sounds like a plan. This Saturday?" Logan nodded and agreed to the date. "Wonderful! Now, I must be going" Roman stood after glancing at the time, "see you around, specs!" He called over his shoulder. Logan rolled his eyes fondly when a teacher called for him to quieten down.

After school, Patton smiled and hurried over to the teacher he was looking for. "Patton!" He grinned, "there you are, now, I wanted to talk to you about tutoring. You are behind in our class due to your sudden move over here, so you need to catch up. I have chosen a student who I can one hundred percent assure you will teach you everything you need to know. He is currently waiting in my classroom" he explained, gesturing down the hallway.

"Okay, thank you, sir!" Patton replied cheerily, hopping down the hallway and into the classroom, lighting up when he saw Logan sitting at a desk, reading from his book. "Hiya, Lo!" Patton greeted, swiftly sitting in the seat beside Logan who looked up and smiled, closing his book and sliding it into his bag to make room for the other work they would be doing that session. "Salutations, Patton. Would you like to start?" Patton nodded eagerly and brought out his book, writing out a few notes Logan explained to him. The session ran by smoothly, more times than one Patton found himself utterly distracted by Logan's beauty. Entranced by it, even.

"Thank you so much for this, Lo" Patton spoke sincerely once the lesson had ended. "It is my pleasure. I hope to be a professors one day"

"You would be perfect for the job!"

Logan felt his cheeks twinge pink. "Thank you, Patton"

An hour earlier, at the beginning of their tutoring, a few classes away Roman was sitting in an empty room, entranced by his book until the door opened. He rose his eyes and tensed, spotting Virgil who also wore a disdained expression. "Christ, not you. Tell me you're not my tutor" he begged, not wanting to move from the doorway, hand tightly gripping the doorknob.

Roman scoffed. "I will have you know" he began, swinging his bag onto his shoulders and standing up. "I could be an amazing tutor! But no, thankfully, I am not. She will be here soon" Roman explained and brushed by Virgil who leaned against the door in happiness, watching Roman walk away before he sat down at a different desk and brought out a few books, ready for the session to begin. Thankfully, the girl was very sweet, patient, and actually really smart.

In the afternoon, Patton found he had some time to himself. Walking through the new city was quite an adventure, stepping into different small, cute shops to see what they had to offer, and even buying himself a few nicknacks. Due to their schedules, he and Logan changed their project date to tomorrow - Wednesday, but they had both already started it, texting each other what they had done, which admittedly wasn't too much.

At the end of the street was a really adorable shop Patton just had to go inside, and he quickly realised it was a small book shop. He explored the few isles, looking up and down the tall bookshelves in search for a book, but he didn't really read often due to his short attention span. When he walked into the next isle over, he lit up in surprise when he noticed Logan holding a book in his hands.

Heading over with a bounce in his step, he lightly tapped Logan's shoulder to gain his attention, which worked. "Ah, Patton, what a lovely surprise" he acknowledged, putting down the book back on the shelf and turning to him. "How are you? I hope you are adequate" Logan brought up conversation, noticing this seemed to make Patton further bubbly and giddy than he was prior. "I am!" He agreed, "and you? Oo! What book did you have there?"

Logan chuckled lightly, passing the book over to him. "I am adequate. A tad disappointed, as I thought the book was one of Agatha Christie's - one I haven't read - on further inspection, it isn't, which is quite annoying, but" he waved it off, "nothing can be done about it" Patton nodded and slid the book back into place, holding his arms behind his back as he silently watched Logan browse.

"What brings you here?" Logan questioned, picking up another book.

"Oh! Just exploring. Which reminds me, I should probably head on home!" He giggled impishly, glancing at the clock hanging on the wall. "If you give me a moment to buy this book, I can drive you home?" Patton jumped aboard his offer instantly, and skipped beside Logan as he bought the book and walked to his car. As they drove away, the book store's doors opened, and Roman walked in, in search for a new book to read due to the fact he finished Fahrenheit 451.

While plucking out randomly from shelves, his eyes read over the burb of one, hand gripping another only to not be able to pull it out. Confused, he looked up and tugged again, harder but it wasn't budging. Placing the books on an empty section of a lower shelf, he used both hands and yanked it through, hearing a faint 'oof' sound from the other isle. Looking around the corner, his eyebrows quirked up in surprise when he realised it was Virgil on the other side.

"Oh, great" he drawled when he spotted Roman. "Your kindness is appreciated" Roman replied back monotonously, ready to disappear again when Virgil caught his attention, taking a few steps closer, hiding his hands under his sleeves nervously. "Wait, sorry I...can I please have the book?" Roman smirked and waved it in the air, "this one? Why can't I have it?"

He rolled his eyes, "Do you suffer from anxiety?"

Roman tensed and finally looked at the book, seeing it was a book to help people with anxiety. He didn't even realise - now he felt like an idiot. "I see. I'm sorry, Virgil, I didn't realise-here" he handed over the book, shaking his head so he would cut short his apology. "Yeah, thanks" Virgil murmured, the two falling into an awkward silence.

"I suppose this is a good time to let other things off my chest" Roman sighed, "I am sorry about the way I have treated you. It has mixed around in my brain for quite some time, and I quickly realised I was merely being childish. Of course, I can't expect you to forgive me, and could we really be friends? But I hope we can be at least civil around each other" Virgil tapped the hard-book cover, nodding. "I guess I'm sorry, too...civil?" He held out his hand, Roman smiled and shook it strongly.

"Civil. Have a nice day, emo nightmare" he winked and went back to the other isle.

The next day after school, Patton waited outside of the building, bobbing on his feet, eyes searching for his project partner, Logan. Not too long passed, at least not enough for Patton to start feeling anxious, until Patton saw Logan hurrying out of the building, holding a few binders to his chest. Once he reached Patton, he straightened up and fixed himself. "My apologies. Shall we?" He gestured to his car, and Patton nodded with a giggle, getting into the passengers seat while Logan put all of his stuff in the back seat, taking the drivers spot moments after.

"Yours or mine?" Logan questioned, twisting the keys so the car would roar to life. "Yours" Patton answered, "I have two baby twins who aren't exactly the quietest" Patton laughed off, a tad sheepishly. Logan waved it off dismissively and they drove to his home, Patton awing at the beautiful flowers displayed in Logan's front yard as he pulled up in the driveway. "My mother adores gardening" Logan explained, "and sometimes my dad will join in" Patton cooed, commenting on how adorable that sounded. They walked into Logan's house, Patton complimenting the interior design, for it truly looked like a beautiful masterpiece. Almost like Logan. Patton blushed at the thought and turned his head before Logan would notice. "Wait in the front room. I shall be down in a moment" Logan said before he took himself up the stairs, presumably to his room.

Patton sat on the plush couch and got out his work, splaying it across the coffee table, moving the centre piece to the side so they had more space without the worry of knocking something over. While kneeling on the floor, he picked up his pen and began to work, not noticing from the doorway Logan was watching him for a few moments, smiling at the sight of him. Although, his content didn't really last.

As soon as he sat down and began helping Patton with the work, it turned out to be more difficult than originally assumed, as Patton found to be easily distracted, and would rattle off into random rants about this and that. Logan tried his hardest to keep Patton on track, but the more he stopped moving his pen in favour to drag his finger against the glossy wood, or open his mouth to talk about something other than work, Logan felt his self-control eating away at itself until it completely disintegrated.

"Patton! Please" he snapped accidentally, instantly regretting it afterwards. Patton whipped his head around to stare at him with wide, shocked eyes. Logan sighed and rubbed his eyes, "sorry" he murmured lowly, putting down his pen soundlessly. "I did not mean to snap. It seems we have done enough work for today" Logan tucked all their work up neatly and into a binder they both agreed they would keep over Logan's.

"I'm sorry, Lo, I'll-I'll work on it, don't worry-"

"It is alright, Patton" he reassured with a smile that made Patton feel funny. A good funny. "Would you like a snack?" Logan offered, standing up and heading towards the kitchen. "Yes please!" He called back and put away his stuff, leaving his bag at the side of the couch and fixing the coffee table back to what it once looked like. After five minutes, Patton began to get curious to see what was taking Logan so long.

"Hey, Logan?" He called, biting his lip, hoping he would reply but he didn't. Standing up, he fidgeted with his hands and nervously eased into kitchen, noticing the back door was open. Standing in the doorway, he relaxed when he spotted Logan in the garden, standing on the soft grass, head tilted back to stare at the dark night sky above. Due to it being winter, the sun set earlier, so even if it was only six, it was pitch black outside.

Patton could see why Logan was so enthralled, it looked beautiful, but Patton couldn't find himself staring for too long before he became bored.

"Looks like I'm not the only one easily distracted" He teased, coming up beside Logan who shifted his shoulders in a light chuckle, slowly lowering his head to gaze at Patton who giggled childishly. "I suppose not. Space has always fascinated me" he admitted, finding himself staring up once more.

"Why?" Patton responded curiously.

"There is so much we don't know; it is our biggest mystery, we are but a tiny spec in the entire universe...and yet we are living. Breathing. On a planet minuscule compared to others. What I would give to go up there and admire it's beauty" he chuckled and shook his head, "I feel as if I would be no help. I would find it impossible to stop staring" he smiled gently, meeting Patton's gaze to see he was staring in adoration at Logan who cleared his throat and blushed lightly.

Patton didn't really understand still, he just couldn't find it in him to be interested by space. It sure was beautiful, but so was a sunset, and an expanse of blue ocean - nothing to stare at for hours, though. Even still, he reached out his hand towards Logan who tentatively held it back. "Wanna stargaze?" Logan jumped aboard the offer, the two walking to the edge of his garden, laying on the thankfully dry grass, eyes lingering on the black glittered with shimmering white.

Patton found himself tapping, shifting, watching anything other than the sky, sometimes even finding himself tranced by Logan, seeing the stares reflected on his glasses and eyes was something else, but he slowly began to regret the decision - laying down and doing nothing was quite life draining.

For Logan, it was the opposite, and he knew if he didn't get up know he might get stuck until morning. Plus, he noticed Patton's fidgeting, and new enough was enough. He sat up and fixed his hair, holding out his hand to Patton who grinned. "Let us go back inside; I can give you a lift home, if you want?"

"Oh, you don't have to" Patton dismissed, but Logan insisted, and who was Patton to say no?

As they were driving, they wizzed by a park, a park pretty much abandoned from life, apart from the few animals darting across the grass in search of food, and the lone boy sitting in a secluded area behind a few bushes. He had his head propped up by his arm, eyes lazily half open, not moving as they focused on the stars surrounding their planet. He blinked every so often, sometimes shifted, but other than that he was content. So content he didn't hear the sound of a bush shifting, or someone laying down beside him.

They laid next to each other for awhile, one staring up, the other staring down at their phone. It was so peaceful, quiet, the sound of nature overtaking them, making it quite easy for the boy staring up to gently...fall asleep...

Until he heard a chuckle which made him jump out of his skin, shrieking as he flew up onto his feet. His sudden yell made the boy who chuckled yell too and fling himself away, the two panting heavily and squinting at the other. "Virgil?" The boy who stared at the stars asked, astonished. "Roman?" Virgil responded, shoving his phone into his pocket.

"When did you get here!?" They both asked at the same time, scowling afterwards. "I have been here for hours!" Roman defended, only to be met with the same argument from Virgil who crossed his arms.

"We stargazed with each other for hours" Roman whispered, running a hand through his hair. "Why does that make me uncomfortable?" Virgil asked, twisting his face up. "I was about to ask the same thing!" Roman's loud voice made Virgil flinch back and wince. "Jeez, dude, tone it down.." he groaned, scratching the back of his neck.

"Look, this was a stupid mistake" he shrugged, "I'll leave you to it, or whatever"

"No, it's fine" Roman sighed, "I was leaving, anyway"

Virgil nodded and the two stared at each other for a moment before Roman clapped once, waved and disappeared through the bushes. Virgil, now more comfortable, relaxed and laid back down, focusing on his phone, for he had no interest in gazing up.

Next morning, Patton had offered his assistance in cleaning the music room. The other students hadn't showed up, but Patton didn't really mind, he enjoyed helping others and the teacher seemed so stressed out, Patton would feel terrible if he up and left. While picking up a music sheet stand, he heard the door open behind him. Glancing over his shoulder, he beamed when he realised Logan had walked in.

"Heya, Lo!" He chirped brightly, Logan smiled lightly in response and walked over. "Salutations, Patton. I have come to help? I overheard the teacher complaining only you showed up" Patton's heart warmed at his kindness. "Yeah, I feel terrible" he admitted, fidgeting with his sleeve to his cardigan awkwardly.

"Why?" Logan questioned, genuinely curious. "You showed up, correct?"

"Yeah, but...she trusted the other students, and they didn't"

"I suppose. Still, nothing to lose yourself over. Now" he looked around the room that was left a state by a classroom full of kids from the youngest grade. "Let's get to work" and the two were cleaning the room in comfortable silence - eh, who was he kidding, Logan wanted it to go by in comfortable silence, as that was how he preferred to clean to, or with faint music in the background if he was feeling different that day, but Patton's constant chatter prevented that. Logan didn't let himself show his annoyance, he still felt guilty for snapping yesterday, and he knew Patton couldn't help it, he was a wonderful boy, Logan just couldn't be around him all the time.

"Can you sing, Logy?"

Logy? That's a new one, Logan thought, "no, I cannot" he responded, fixing a few keyboard so they stacked against the wall neater without almost falling over. "Oh, pleeease?" He dragged out in a sort of whine, grinning at Logan who rolled his eyes fondly. "I love hearing people sing!" Patton gushed, bobbing on his feet, giving Logan a look he couldn't say no to.

"Alright" he cleared his throat, thinking of a song to sing. "They say we are what we are, but we don't have to be" Logan began rather awkwardly, his words stiff along with his tense posture, "I'm bad behavior but I do it in the best way, I'll be the watcher, of the eternal flame, I'll be the guard dog of all your favorite dreams..." he drifted, clearing his throat and shaking his head. "I apologise, Patton, I really dislike singing" he frowned apologetically, but Patton waved it off with a smile.

"Don't worry, Lo! Really, I would hate to make you uncomfortable" Patton reassured, rubbing his back a little before returning to cleaning. After they finished, which didn't take as much time with the two of them there instead of one, they collected their belongings, walking over to the door only for it to open before they could even touch the handle.

"I told you I forgot! Sue me!" Roman groaned, stopping when he spotted Logan and a boy he hadn't met before standing before them. Virgil appeared behind Roman, looking surprised to see Patton beside someone he hadn't seen before. There was a long, drawn out awkward silence until Patton grinned.

"Hey, Virge!" He waved, "did you come to clean? 'Cus me and Logan have finished!" Patton gestured to the now clean room.

"Fuck, sorry, Roman and I offered to help yesterday but someone forgot, and I had to find him" Virgil accused, glaring at Roman who puffed out a breath of air and crossed his arms, offended. "Whatever, Wednesday Addams, I was given the key to the back room, because I'm trusted. You can help if you so desire" with that, he was about to march to the back room when he quickly realised he hadn't greeted Logan yet.

"Ah, sorry, Logan" he grinned and clasped his hands, "still on on Saturday?"

"Of course, if you are"

"You know it, nerd" Roman winked, ruffling his hair as he walked by. Logan huffed and fixed it, sending him an irritated glare. "Glad I'm not the only one to find him unbearable" Virgil mumbled to Logan who smirked. "I think everyone does" this made Virgil snort and Patton raise his eyebrow like a disappointed father. "Now, now, kiddos! C'mon, Lo, let's leave them to it!" Patton urged and hoped up the stairs, humming a gentle tune.

"Logan" He greeted Virgil who shook his hand. "Virgil. See ya around, Lo"

"Same to you" Logan nodded curtly and disappeared after Patton.

Virgil trudged through the classroom and into the back room full of instruments placed haphazardly across the room. Roman was already picking up a few and pushing them to the side, giving him room to clean up shelves and decide where to put everything. Virgil worked on the other side of the room, both boys stacking loose papers into their correct boxes, sliding the covers over the instruments and putting the others back in their boxes.

In the silence, the two began to hum absentmindedly. Until Roman began to sing.

"I've been following any road I can find, sifting through the pieces that you left behind. Fallin' in and out 'till I feel nothing inside, what's tonight? What's tonight?" He sung softly, angelically. But even if his voice was perfect, Virgil was getting agitated, he had a better song looping through his head, and with Roman singing, it was harder to concentrate on it.

So, what better to do than out-sing him?

"I don't wanna hear you've got a boyfriend, sometimes you're better off alone. But if you change your mind, you know where I am, yeah if you change your mind, you know where to find me. 'Cause I don't ever wanna be your boyfriend" Virgil sung louder than Roman, both boys still with their back to the other. Roman tensed, falling silent for a few moments, eyes narrowing as he realised what Virgil was up to. Oh, game on.

"I can't keep on living with a delicate mind, if I make a coffee, can we act like we're fine? When we were tangled in the sheets and waking up in our bed 'cause now you strangle me in my sleep and I wake up with you in my head" Roman raised his voice purposely louder, momentarily pausing his cleaning to focus more on the battle that was slowly building between the two, along with the rising tension of competition.

"And never did I think that I would be caught in the way you got me push another girl aside and just give in..."

Roman twirled around on his feet and so did Virgil, both of their eyes holding a glare as the sung passionately.

"Girls love girls and boys, Oh oh Oh oh, girls love girls and boys, I thought you loved me, and never did I think that I, would be caught in the way you got me, Oh oh oh oh, but girls love girls and boys, I thought, I thought, and love is not a choice" they sung at the same time, hands clenched, taking inching steps towards each other until Roman groaned and threw his hands up.

"Can we seriously not be in the same room without THIS?!" He gestured around at the room, referring to the tense atmosphere. Virgil shrugged and pocketed his hands, "whatever. You're just making it worse" Virgil accused, placing his headphones over his ears before Roman could retort. Angrily, Roman watched Virgil turn around and finish cleaning his side of the room. Whatever. At least Roman could sing now. And he did, which eased down his muscles and calmed the room down considerably. Once they finished, they both parted from each other without a word.

Once school ended the next day, (Friday), Patton waited outside for Logan to go back to his house and continue with their project. He hoped he wouldn't be as bad as Wednesday, he definitely improved yesterday, but he really didn't want to annoy Logan again. As he was waiting, he heard a clap of thunder, flinching at the sudden noise, but relaxing again. Something about the distant rumble of thunder was always relaxing. But, with thunder came rain, and that was something Patton didn't enjoy nearly as much. He quickly put on his cardigan, but didn't do much in ways of protection, so instead of scowling about it, he placed his bag in shelter and rushed around the emptying car park, tilting his head back and laughing fondly as water droplets splashed against his face and body.

It became heavier and heavier, until it was hitting against Patton rapidly, drenching him through his clothes, but he didn't mind, he just threw his arms up and twirled around in a puddle.

"Patton!" He heard Logan's voice over the thunder. "What are you doing?" He looked over to see him dropping his bag and hurrying over, wrapping his jacket around Patton's shivering body and tugging him back to the building.

"C'mon, Logy!" He giggled, pulling away and dancing in the rain. "It's fun!"

"You will catch a cold" Logan stated, tapping his foot against the ground. Patton just laughed louder and kept twirling and leaping. Logan sighed, ready to turn to hide under the shelter when out of the corner of his eye he watched Patton stumble and tense, yelping as his body was suddenly plummeting to the ground. "Patton-!" Logan himself yelped, rushing to the boy and grabbing him moments before he made impact, pulling him up quickly again.

"Are you alright?" He asked, registering the fact their faces were inches apart a few moments later. Patton giggled lightly, blush coating his cheeks that dripped with rain. "Y-Yeah.." his teeth chattered as he responded, "I'm fine" his voice lowered, eyes flickering down to Logan's lips that looked exceptionally welcoming when wet.

Instantly, he was flustered at what Patton was silently asking, but instead of debating it in his head and missing his moment, he leaned forward and pressed their lips together, not having to wonder if Patton wanted it, for he melted and curled his arms around Logan's neck, holding him tighter as the kiss made his legs turn to jelly.

They pulled back, panting lightly but smiling all the same. "That was...good" Logan commented awkwardly. Patton laughed, "we should do it again sometime" Logan nodded in agreement, turning his head to the side and smiling. "Yes. But, I would much rather get home and warm up" Patton laughed and agreed, hurrying over to their belongings and getting into Logan's warm car.

While their kiss was occurring, not too far away Roman was standing beside his car, watching from across the car park at Virgil who was sitting on a bench, head tilted back, letting rain soak through his clothes and hair. Wondering what he was doing, Roman hurried over and sat beside him.

"Lovely weather we're having" Roman commented, holding an umbrella above his head. After the music-room palaver yesterday, Roman had found Virgil later in the day and apologised yet again for his behaviour, which Virgil accepted. And, when they weren't trying to out-best the other, and actually spoke with no one else around, they got along like a house on fire. Today Roman had even convinced Virgil to help with the new up and coming musical because he said he didn't have much to do after school. So, he thinks this new blossoming friendship might actually work out.

Virgil snorted at his comment, eyes closed, basking in the cold, wet weather. "Sure is..." he mumbled, opening one eye and glaring at the umbrella. Roman noticed and rolled his eyes, closing it and laying it down beside him. Once he did, Virgil smiled and closed his eyes. "Well, I'm already wet!" Roman declared, standing up, "might as well have some fun" he said before he began to bounce around in different puddles, laughing joyously when the water spraying around him everywhere, staining his trousers with muck, but he didn't care. He hasn't had this type of fun in awhile.

Virgil watched for awhile until he sheepishly stood up and joined in, which turned into a playful war about who could kick the most water at the other. Their laughter filled up the empty space, happiness radiating inside of them until Roman gasped and slipped onto his ass, frozen in place, shocked. Virgil stared for a moment before bursting into laughter, making Roman scoff and stand up, glaring at Virgil who was wheezing.

"Shut up, panic at the everywhere!" Roman groaned and stormed over, kicking a load of water at him, gasping as Virgil coughed and spluttered, glaring at Roman. "Oh Disney! I'm sorry!" He rushed, hurrying over and using his sleeve to wipe away the dirt from Virgil's face.

"It's fine, it's fine" Virgil swatted his hands away, but Roman didn't move until he cleaned it all. Afterwards, his hands lingered on Virgil's cheeks softly, their eyes meeting in that moment of silence. Weird silence. Like the rain had become an odd background noise, and all Virgil could hear was the sound of his quickening breath as they began to lean in close, close, and closer until the stopped, their lips had met, and they...kissed.

Breaking apart, their eyes were hooded, eyes glazed over.

"Roman?" Virgil whispered, gripping his wrists.

"Yeah?"

"...I hated that"

"So did I" Roman admitted and recoiled, "Why did we do that!?" Virgil rubbed his lips like Roman was doing, face scrunched up. "I don't know! Gosh, I don't like you that way!" Roman groaned and grabbed his umbrella. "Maybe if we weren't put in such romantic scenarios we would actually get along!" He dramatised, throwing his arms around with flair.

"Yeah, probably" Virgil sighed, and the two glanced at each other.

"Come on" Roman sighed and gestured to his car, "I'll take you home" this made Virgil quirk the corner of his lip. "Thanks, man, just don't kiss me again"

Roman laughed, eyes shining once more. "Don't have to ask me twice, Wednesday Addams!"

Saturday morning Roman woke up around ten thirty, groggily pressing snooze over and over until he sat bolt upright, remembering the library meet up with Logan. He dragged himself out of bed and got ready as, admittedly, he was quite excited to spend a few hours reading - he enjoyed it more than people around him would assume. His theatre friends definitely would never pin him with that trope.

Finishing the last touches to his appearance, he brought up Logan's contact (as they swapped numbers a few years ago for something to do with school Roman for the life of him couldn't remember) and texted him when they would meet.

Roman - Greetings Nerd! And what a lovely day it is outside! So when should we meet?

Logan - Ah, I was wondering if you would text first. It is currently eleven thirty, so possibly twelve? Is that too early?

Roman - Not at all!

Logan - Perfect. Although, I will have to leave around six so I have enough time to get ready for my date.

Roman - Date? Oo la la!

Logan - Shut it.

Roman - With who?

Logan - Patton. We are going at eight.

Roman - Patton? The cute boy you were with in the music room?

Logan - That is him, yes.

Roman - Isn't that adorable! Well I promise to not take you away from your date! Twelve it is! See you then nerd

Like promised, at twelve Roman and Logan were pulling up in the library's parking lot. "Just in time!" Roman grinned at Logan as soon as he stepped out of his car. Logan smiled back and nodded. "Quite. Shall we?" He gestured to the building and Roman nodded, holding his arms behind his back and walking beside Logan who found it easing he was going his speed, and not skipping ahead.

"Look at all these books!" Roman exclaimed once he walked in through the doors, rushing over to the teenager section. Logan watched him for a moment before departing to the older books, quickly finding one that looked and sounded appealing. He found Roman a few minutes later sitting in one of the bean bags, leg crossed atop the other, diving right into the thick book he clutched in his hands.

Logan sat on the beanbag opposite beside the large window that touched the floor, all the way up to the roof, it held a nice view both boys could gaze out of it they weren't so interested in their books. And, even if they planned this to hang out, no words needed to be shared. The silence wasn't awkward, and definitely not filled with questions like 'are they bored?' Or 'should we be talking? Am I being to anti-social?'

Instead, both boys were at peace, listening to the sound of pages flipping, quiet gasps, and stifled laughter. Sometimes an adult would walk by and smile at the pair, finding it a rather adorable (and rare) sight.

Logan only looked up after Roman snorted and laughed into his hand. He smirked a tad at his failed attempt to stay silent. Roman felt his gaze and looked up, the two sharing brief smiles before returning to their stories. Time ticked by, but Logan checked it every so often, making sure to not overrun their time too late into the afternoon.

Thankfully, he finished the book just as the clock struck six. He closed it and looked up at Roman, seeing he still had quite the way to go. "Roman?"

He looked up, "I need to go" Logan explained. "Oh!" Roman stated, disappointment flashing across his features, but he smiled quickly. "We must do this again, Lo! It was...nice"

"Indeed. Would you like to stay?"

Roman contemplated the idea for awhile, tapping his chin. "I think I shall...I'm free next Saturday?"

Logan nodded, "as am I. Same time?"

Roman nodded in return and called a gentle goodbye, reading the words on the page again. Logan chuckled and watched him for a brief moment before he stood up and left to his car.

Earlier that day, while Roman and Logan lounged around in the library, Patton wanted to do something to fill the time. He had managed to buy himself in his house until twelve, and now he had seven hours to fill before he would start to get ready for his date with Logan. Putting on his cardigan and saying goodbye to his parents, he left his house and walked down the street aimlessly, heading towards the park to see if he could play on a few of the monkey bars built for children.

He was basically a big child at heart.

Although, while walking he passed by a house with a certain boy sitting on the front lorn. Patton stopped, a grin sliding up onto his cheeks when he realised the boy was Virgil. Leaning on the white, picket fence Patton waved enthusiastically.

"Heya, Virgil!" He called sweetly, not too loud to scare him. Virgil looked up from his phone, finding it in him to smile back and lift his hand in a semi-wave. "Sup, Pat" he responded, "what brings you to my neck of the woods?" He questioned, leaning back on the soft, warm grass, phone laying on his thigh.

Patton merely shrugged, "I wanted to find something to do! Wanna hang out?"

"Sure, I guess, but inside?"

"Sounds good" Patton beamed and walked through the gate, helping Virgil up from the floor when he groaned and made grabby hands up at him. They walked in through the house, Virgil giving him a little tour - which consisted of pointing to different rooms quickly from the foyer, saying their names and hurrying up the stairs afterwards. Patton thought it to be amusing, and giggled all the way up.

"And thus is my humble abode" Virgil opened his bedroom door, revealing his bedroom. The colour scheme was dark, some Halloween decorations placed randomly throughout, and honestly quite messy. Patton's favourite thing was the dog plushy on his pillow. It made him gasp and rush over, gently picking it up and crushing it to his chest.

"Oh, god" Virgil grimaced, "I...I don't sleep with that...whaaat" he drifted, averting his eyes and coughing awkwardly. "Don't worry, Virgie" Patton smiled, "I sleep with teddies, too!" He reassured, handing the plushy to Virgil who smiled sheepishly and took it gently, throwing it onto his bed afterwards.

"I like it!" Patton commented, twirling around the room and throwing his arms up. "It's cosy" he complimented, eyes grazing across the nicknacks on the shelves. "And it reminds me of you!" Patton laughed, looking over his shoulder at Virgil who smirked and rolled his eyes, trying to desperately push away a blush.

Patton bent down to look at two speakers with a CD player sat between, flinching back when soft music suddenly began to float out. "Sorry.." Virgil scratched the back of his neck, dropping his legs over the side of his bed. "I uh..sometimes listen to music without lyrics. Mostly from different video game's soundtracks, it..calms me down"

Patton nodded and smiled, hurrying across the room and sitting beside him. "Calms you down from what?" Patton ventured, pulling his legs up to his chest and curling his arms around them, resting his face in his knees. Virgil sighed, biting his lip and fiddling with& his sleeves. "Uhh....anxiety" he admitted, closing his eyes for a moment. "Play them after panic attacks" he further explained, ducking his head down, almost expecting Patton to mock him, but he relaxed when he felt him wrap an arm around his shoulders.

"Oh, Virgie" he frowned, squeezing him reassuringly. "If you ever need any help during those, I'm just a call away.."

Virgil chuckled. "If we had each other's phone numbers"

Patton grinned and handed over his phone, "Why don't we?"

Virgil smirked, nudging him with his shoulder playfully before the two exchanged numbers with gentle chuckles. They decided the best thing to do to keep them entertained was Netflix.  They both laid against Virgil's headboard to begin with, but in the end Patton began finding his attention spiral to other things around him, and with jittery hands, he couldn't lay down and watch any longer. He sat up and stretched,  purposely over dramatically, making Virgil snort as he watched. Next, Patton laid back down, but this time on top of Virgil's chest, eyes at the perfect angle to watch Virgil scroll through his phone, T.V show long forgotten.

When Patton got bored of that, he managed to slip himself behind Virgil, letting the boy rest against his chest while he made a braid from his bangs. Next, he sat on Virgil's floor and went through his plushy collection (he said was in a box inside his closet) giving each of them names as Virgil hadn't done so.

Even if Patton moved from thing to thing, lips moving a mile a minute as he spoke, Virgil found he didn't really mind. For the most part it was amusing, watching as Patton took every small thing and brought some sort of entertainment out of it before he was moving onto the next, he was also impressed about how much the boy could talk.

Virgil looked at the time, it was nearing seven. "Uh, Pat?"

"Yeah?" He responded, looking up from the Rubix-cube that kept him occupied for a few seconds, at most. "Isn't your date at, like, eight?"

Patton froze, gulping. Virgil quickly realised his mistake and backtracked. "Oh, it's not eight yet! It's nearly seven, jus' wanted to remind you incase you forgot" the relief that flooded over his face made Virgil relax, too. "Oh, thank you, Virgie!" He gushed and hugged him tightly.

"I need to go! We should hang out again soon!" Patton grinned and waved a goodbye, leaving the house and sprinting back to his own.

Virgil smiled at him from his window. Logan was one lucky guy.
