1387 - Roman & Virgil

Au

Virgil grumbled and rubbed his stinging eyes, the sound of his phone's ringtone blaring through his once quiet room. Each contact in his phone all had the same jingle that played; apart from one person. Which allowed Virgil to know who was calling him without checking the ID. Rolling onto his side and smushing most of his face into the pillow as he did so, he slapped his hand onto his mobile device, pressed the green answer button and dropped the phone onto the side of his face.

"What the fuck, Ro" Virgil muttered, pissed off.

"Oh, don't!" Roman huffed in response, "it's two in the afternoon!"

"Yeah. Is that supposed to make me feel guilty?" He groaned and clenched his eyes shut.

Roman simply sighed and brought up the reason he called in the first place. "Virgil" he spoke, tone edging on serious. "We have a 1387" suddenly, Virgil sprung up from bed, clutching the phone in his hands tight nervously. He shuffled around his room in a hurry, grabbing the pile of clothes from the floor and throwing them over his shoulder as he tried to find his favourite pair of skinny jeans.

"No fucking way"

"Way" Roman reinforced, "how long do we have?" Virgil demanded, wedging the phone between his cheek and shoulder as he dragged on his clothes, throwing his pyjamas somewhere to the corners of his room. Roman hummed, "two days"

"Shit"

"Yep"

"Double shit" Virgil hissed, tucking on his shoes, grabbing his keys and running a hand through his hair a few time before he was sprinting out of his apartment, picking up his jacket on the way and hurdling over the couch to buy a few seconds. As he rushed down the stairs in his apartment building, he carried on talking to his best friend on the other end.

"Do we have backup?"

"Mint chocolate chip and McDonald's fries have bailed on us"

"Are you shitting me? McDonald's fries? What the fuck!?"

"I know!" Roman shared his exasperation from the other end, "apparently she got a boyfriend this weekend. I mean, did she forget she told us she was a lesbian!?"

"I knew we called her McDonald's fries for a reason" Virgil grumbled, leaving his building and sliding into his car, throwing his phone onto the dashboard after he pressed the speaker button. Roman sighed on the other end, quickly giving Virgil his location - luckily he was home. "What can we do, Virge?" Roman sounded so weak. Virgil licked his lips and screeched out of his driveway, slamming on the ignition as he skidded his way around corners and past cars towards Roman's house.

"We'll have to call in reinforcements" he said with seriousness. Roman gasped.

"You don't mean..."

"Oh, I mean"

"Guacamole" Roman whispered on the other end. "Do we still have contact?"

Virgil picked up his phone and parked the car on the curb for a few minutes, scrolling through his contacts to 'g'.

"Good news" Virgil piped up, carrying on the high-tale to Roman's. "She's possibly still in business. If not, we'll have to go all out"

"Not green pillow..." Roman drifted, astonished. Virgil hummed grimly. "I'm afraid so, dude. That or remote island, and I'm pretty sure we're gonna avoid her as much as we can" Virgil slammed on the breaks once he was outside Roman's house. Hanging up, he barged into the home seconds after Roman opened the door just in time.

"Oh, I'm so happy to see you!" He gushed, and the two hurried into the living room. "You call Guac, I'll get green pillow and remote island on stand by" Virgil nodded and followed his orders, calling the girl's number and putting it on speaker. The two men nervously watched the phone, Virgil fiddling with his sleeves, Roman fixing his already perfect hair. When they thought all hope was lost; the phone answered.

"Virgil? No waaaay..." Guacamole dragged out, laughing in shock. "I can't believe it! Don't tell me; 1387?"

"We wouldn't call you for anything less" Virgil answered, "now, are you still up for it?"

"I would! But I don't think my husband would be..." both boys groaned and flopped back onto the couch. "New call; we track Facebook profiles" Roman nodded in agreement and they turned back to guacamole when she caught their attention. "I do have an idea, if you want. I think I remember after me was green pillow? And she died a few months ago"

Roman's and Virgil's eyebrows shot up in horror. "Definitely keep track of Facebook profiles" they whispered to each other.

"What's your idea?" Roman asked, shuffling closer.

"I have a brother- and don't interrupt me!" The two boys closed their mouths. "I know what Roman's mother is like; but hear me out. He's more feminine than Roman's mother! He loves to crossdress, and is more than happy to pretend to be a girl sometimes. But he definitely is more comfortable with he/him pronouns. So, I can ask, if you want?" Roman and Virgil shared a glance. They spoke with their eyes, nodding curtly.

"Age?" Virgil questioned.

"Twenty five"

"Perfect. Call us back ASAP" with that, Virgil hung up and dropped his phone onto his stomach, both boys falling against the back of the couch, staring at the ceiling. "Green pillow is dead" Roman whispered, still reeling over that fact. "I can't imagine what happened to remote island" Virgil piped up, scratching his cheek in thought.

"We really should update our 1387 list"

"Agreed. I'll start looking" Roman nodded and the two stayed silent while playing on their phones. Five minutes later, Virgil's ringtone began blaring, and both men flinched. "Answer!" Roman encouraged, and the man did so, holding the phone between them.

"Any news on your brother?"

"Yes!" Guacamole replied with a giggle, "he said yes!"

And that was how Roman and Virgil met Patton, guacamole's brother. She wasn't actually called guacamole but it was more for the legitimacy of their little system Roman and Virgil made when they were kids. Like guac said, he looked very feminine, and had that kind of aura around him - he was currently wearing a fluttery navy skirt with flowers dotted across it, and a dark purple long-sleeved top tucked into it. On his shoulder hung a small hang bag, and he had a light coat of makeup across his adorably beautiful face - at least, that was how Roman saw it. His skin was also sprinkled with freckles that glowed under the suns rays.

Roman smiled and bowed down in front of him, kissing the back of his hand. The boy giggled sheepishly. "Hey, you must be Roman!"

"And you must be Patton" said man replied, voice edging on sultry as he stood back up to his full height, a few inches above Patton who titled his head back and grinned. "I am! And this is Logan, my best friend!" Patton gestured to the man he walked out of the car with. He was quite different in clothe style, as he wore black trousers, a dark blue shirt, and a lighter shaded blue tie hanging down his chest. But, one similarity between the two bring they both wore glasses - Logan's was black rimmed, and Patton's was blue rimmed.

"Salutations, Roman, Virgil" Logan greeted the two. Roman smiled and bowed down slightly, but instantly turned his attention back to Patton. Virgil, on the other hand, was subtly ogling Logan who, to him, looked way to attractive for it to be legal. Soon, Virgil might be sporting a boner, and that was the last thing he wanted in front of a stranger. A hot stranger. A stranger who will soon know how hot he really is. Ducking his head, Virgil flushed and focused on the idea of the elderly, but naked.

"Are you sure you're comfortable with this?" Roman asked Patton who nodded happily, bouncing on the balls of his heels. "Yeah! I wouldn't be here, otherwise, silly" he teased lightly, "perfect!" Roman clapped his hands together, "my mother dearest should be arriving tomorrow, so, why don't we start preparing right away?" Patton agreed, one hand gripping his handbag strap as he followed Roman inside of his home.

"We should uh...probably go with..." Virgil gestured to the two who disappeared inside, mouth suddenly going dry. Logan nodded, finding he lost his own voice, too, after catching just one glimpse of the darkly dressed man. As awkwardly as the two could've possibly made it, they walked side by side inside, finding Roman and Patton in the living room, Patton sitting on the couch and straightening out his skirt as Roman dragged a box into the room.

"This" he slapped the roof of the box. "Is home to all my costumes from my childhood!" He declared before dramatically throwing it open, revealing it stacked to the brim of different clothes and wigs, plus other small props and things alike. "Woah.." Patton drifted, lips parted in awe. "Here, choose a favourite" Roman suggested while gently throwing wigs Patton's way. The man laughed as he tried to catch them, most falling to the ground but in the end he caught one which he held high up in the air with a cheer.

"He's adorable" Roman whispered to Virgil who smirked and nodded in agreement.

Trying on the wig he caught was actually more challenging than he originally thought, most of the hair falling over his face. He laughed and allowed Roman to help. "Here" Roman carefully straightened the hair, gripped the edge of the wig and slid it over his head, hiding his short, curly, blond hair with the long, wavy brown hair. Guiding Patton to a mirror, the boy gasped and giggled cutely, playing with the hair. "That looks awesome!" He gushed, whirling around to face Roman who grinned. "I think you look awesome" Patton laughed, his cheeks twinging pink.

"Thanks, Roman" he spoke sincerely.

"Let's go through the plan" Virgil began once they were all sitting in the living room again. "Tomorrow Roman's mom's coming down. If Roman doesn't have a date when she does long story short she's more unbearable than a jock from high school" everyone in the room shuddered at the same time, "carrying on. Patton will pretend to be Roman's girlfriend, don't mention anything about homosexuality, everyone act natural, we should be chill" he lifted his arms into a shrug as if it would be as easy as that.

"Will we have to act romantic? Like, kiss and stuff?" Patton questioned before plopping a piece of candy into his mouth.

Roman shrugged nonchalantly, "it's up to you, mi amor" Patton giggled.

"How long will it last?" Logan piped up from the arm chair.

"Five days, give or take" Virgil shrugged. "Thankfully you don't live too far away" he added on as an afterthought. "Great!" Roman threw his hands up, "this will go perfectly!"

It didn't go perfectly.

Roman's mother bought the lie and does actually believe Patton is a girl, and Roman's girlfriend, but what didn't really go according to plan was the development of feelings. It happened the first time they shared a kiss, it was short and sweet, but when it occurred, Roman felt something stir in his stomach. Because of the act they had to follow through with, when in the same general vicinity as Roman's mother, they had to act romantic, which consisted of cuddles, hand hugging, pecks, and kisses. But, when she wasn't around, and they could act normal, he almost...missed it. Which was crazy, because Roman hasn't really fallen for anyone like this before.

In the span of three days.

"I need a picture!" Roman's mother suddenly declared when they were all sitting in Roman's living room. "Of?" Roman encouraged her to explain, one arm curled around Patton's waist, the other playing with the end of his skirt. Patton giggled softly, head nestled between Roman's neck and shoulder. "Of you two!" She said as if it were obvious, sitting on the coffee table before them. "Go on" she urged, "kiss!" The two laughed and Roman lifted up his hand, cupping Patton's jaw and stroking his cheek. Patton tilted his head back slightly to stare up at him, smiling softly.

Roman smiled back and leaned down, pressing their lips together in a kiss much longer than previous ones. Opposite, Logan and Virgil shared a glance. Virgil smirked knowingly while Logan looked lost. Deadpanning him, Virgil waved his hand and turned back to his friends. By this point, Patton had his arms loosely placed around Roman's shoulders, holding him close as Roman's mother cooed and took a photo.

"Now, now, that's enough!"

They split apart, panting softly, breathless grins forming on their faces. "Can we continue again?" Patton whispered while Roman's mother was busy. "I thought you'd never ask" Roman murmured.

So; they did. Later, when his mother left, Virgil and Logan went off to start cooking dinner - as it was their turn - leaving Patton and Roman in the living room alone. "I didn't think I could like someone in such a short amount of time" Patton commented, sitting on Roman's lap. The man shrugged and smiled, gesturing to himself grandly. "Why not? I'm perfect!"

"Keep telling yourself that, Ro" Virgil's voice called from the kitchen.

Patton laughed and captured Roman's lips in a kiss before he could respond.

Roman hummed and instantly kissed back, holding Patton close.

After Roman's mother returned home, they didn't need to keep acting anymore. But this time, now cuddled up on the couch, sharing soft compliments and gentle kisses, this time...it was real.
