Roman smiled at the tree he swiftly passed, whistling at the tweeting birds. The walk to Virgils house - he found - was always relaxing and beautiful, the streets lined with flowers of all kinds and tall trees home to many birds. No trash in sight, and everyone was pretty well behaved.
A little different from his own street but he was happy his boyfriend for three years lived safe.
Once spotting the cottage like house in the distance a smile formed on his face, remembering why he was going over there in the first place. He sped up, jumping over the white fence surrounding the lovely house before knocking on the mahogany door.
It opened quickly, revealing one of Virgils Dads, Patton. He was a bubbly, happy all around nice guy, but he was always cautious around Roman, his smile faltering whenever he saw him.
"Hey, Roman, Virgil isn't in-"
"I know" Roman smiled, glancing at Logan who stopped beside Patton - Virgil's other dad, he made his dislike to Roman clear.
"Then why are you here?" Logan asked, his voice stern, arms crossed over his chest. Roman breathed in deeply, clasping his hands together.
"I wanted to get your permission...to propose to Virgil, please"
His eyes flicked from each Dad, chewing his lip nervously. Romans attention drew to Logan when the man let out a snort, regaining his composure almost immediately. "No"
"W-what? But-!"
"I said no" Logan cut him off, eyes narrowed. "I do not allow you to marry my son, all you are is a menace, I am surprised with myself I have not split you two up already"
Roman sagged, a sad frown forming on his lips. "But I love him-"
"Lair"
"I do!" Roman insisted, turning to Patton who was more easily persuadable. "Please, Patton" he begged quietly.
Patton glanced at Logan who looked at him back. "I'm sorry, Roman" he uttered softly, not knowing what to do - who's side to choose.
Roman closed his mouth tightly, stuffing his hands into his pockets he felt the black velvet box inside holding the ring he bought for bus beloved.
Roman nodded awkwardly, "Well, thank you for your time"
"Time I will never get back" Logan muttered, turning and walking back into the house. Roman glanced up at Patton once more, noticing guilt flash through his eyes before he softly closed the door.
Later that day Roman texted Virgil to meet him where the two first met three years ago, texting him again to not mention it to his parents.
"Sup, Prince"
Roman whipped his head up, smiling when he saw Virgil walking up to him wearing his usual black attire.
Jumping up Roman cupped his face and kissed him softly, the kiss expressing all of his love he felt for the man standing in front of him.
Leaning back with a smile Roman scanned Virgils face, an adorable blush coating his cheeks. "Why So affectionate?" Virgil asked, frowning slightly. "Did something happen?" He questioned, staring into Romans eyes sceptically.
Roman shook his head, "nothing happened, nothing at all Dearest" he reassured, patting his pocket to make sure the box was inside.
"Why are we here, then? Are you gonna tell me you have a fatal disease or something-?"
Roman laughed, cutting Virgils worries off. "No, no" Roman mused, kissing him once more. "Nothing like that, it's a question, actually" Virgil watched his boyfriend, confused for a few seconds until he slowly bent down to one knee.
Virgils hands flew to his mouth, eyes widening.
Roman smiled, reaching into his pocket. "I'm sorry if this is...unexpected" Roman began, chuckling quietly. "But...for the past three years I have never been happier, when I was younger I thought I would never find love, I was told by my parents everyday, but when I saw you sitting here alone those years ago I knew I would fall in love"
Virgil choked back a small sob, watching Roman pull the box out of his pocket and hold it up.
"Virgil, will you-"
"Yes" Virgil rushed, to thrilled to wait, Roman paused, a smile growing on his face. "Yes...yes yes yes!" Virgil repeated, collapsing onto the ground and hugging Roman tightly, hiding his face in his neck, tears trickling down his cheeks.
Roman hugged back tightly, putting the ring delicately on Virgils shaking finger. "I love you" Roman whispered, stroking his cheek, cleaning away the tears also. Virgil tried to speak but was cut off by a happy sob, making Roman hum in amusement. They shared another long kiss, both relaxing in each other's arms for a few hours before it got too late.
"Don't tell your parents yet" Roman advised, kissing Virgil just outside his house. "Why?" Virgil pondered, arms wrapped around his neck.
Roman glanced at the house.
"Something tells me we should tell them together, I shall be over tomorrow"
Another kiss and Roman was gone.
Sticking to his word Roman knocked on the door the very next day. Virgil practically flew down the stairs, dodging past Logan who was heading to the door and pulling it wide open, revealing Roman who flinched in shock.
"Prince!" He grinned, the nickname always brightening Romans spirits.
Flinging himself at Roman Roman easing caught him, twirling Virgil around they shared a long kiss, both smiling happily.
Logan went to speak when Patton grabbed his arm, giving him a look with a small smile. Logan grumbled but let the two carry on, enjoying each other's embrace like they hadn't seen each other in months.
Finally splitting apart Roman placed Virgil on the ground gently, he always had a delicate touch with Virgil.
"How was the proposal?" Logan asked, gaining the twos attention quickly. "What? Did you expect me to believe you would not propose even after I said no?"
"You said no?" Virgil cut in, eyes narrowing. A hand closed around his own, glancing at Roman the older of the two shot him a sweet smile, shutting him up.
"I'm sorry, Logan, but I love Virgil too much, if you don't like our relationship I'm sorry, but if you loved your son you would let him be happy"
Logan stared Roman down, finally glancing at Virgil who still looked a little mad but had a blush from Romans words. Patton leaned into Logan, looking at him with puppy dog eyes, secretly liking the idea of his son getting married to Roman.
Dragging a hand through his hair Logan sighed out, obviously annoyed but exasperated. "Fine, do what you want" Logan waved it off.
"Thank you, Logan" Roman smiled sincerely, the stoic man didn't smile back but saw potential in Roman he didn't see before.
Watching the two kiss again he felt Patton press a kiss to his cheek. "You're the best Dad ever" he whispered, eyes gleaming with happiness.
Logan smugly grinned. "And the best husband" he added, pointing to Pattons ring. "That halfwit would not dare propose at the age of sixteen"
This caught Romans attention, he split back from the kiss, a ludicrous expression on his face. "You proposed when you were sixteen?"
Logan nodded, tapping Pattons ring. "I one-upped you again, you vapid teen"
"I'm not even a teen!"
"I beg to differ"
