Virgil was woken by the blinding light of the early morning sun. Groaning, he rubbed his eyes, ready to barf up the contents of his stomach from any slight movement. Wincing at the pounding headache, he slowly sat up, glancing at the sleeping body next to him with a soft sigh. Tugging away the quilt, he stood up and bit back a gasp at the sudden pain that shot up his back.
Yep, he was a bottom last night.
Tugging on his clothes tiredly, he didn't even realise his shirt was on back to front. Picking up his phone he checked for any missed calls or messages. "Of course" he muttered, locking his phone and stuffing it into his back pocket once he realised he had none.
Slipping on his shoes, he glanced at the man again, sighing out and murmuring an apology before leaving the house. The walk back to his apartment was shameful - as it usually is - as his brain brought back little snippets from last night. And as always, he felt a deep regret in the pit of his stomach, or that could be the acidic waste ready to be spewed into a toilet.
Sluggishly heading in his apartment building, the old-ish woman who owned it looked up at him from her mail box, tutting and shaking her head. "You're a lost cause, Virgil" she commented, watching him over the top of her glasses as he leaned on the banister for support.
"And you're still single, Betty" he replied grouchily, pulling his body up the stairs to the third floor, nearly collapsing against his door as he fumbled for his keys, cursing himself for dropping them onto the floor.
"Here!" A perky voice spoke, picking up the keys for him.
Glancing at the man, Virgil rose his eyebrow, giving him a once over.
"Who're you?" He slurred, not drunk but the aftermath from the night before catching up on him. The man only giggled, unlocking the door for the obviously tired and in-pain man. "I'm Patton, I just moved in!" Virgil nodded, watching him wave a little before leaving down the stairs, too happy this early in the morning.
Hating his life, Virgil collapsed into his apartment, slamming the door shut behind him and breathing in the familiar homely scent. Trudging his way through, he gulped down water and a few painkillers, stretching his back and groaning loudly. His phone binged as he sat at the kitchen counter, head falling into arms.
"Ugh, great" he muttered, realising the man added his number to Virgil's contacts.
Unknown ~ Hey
You ~ We had a one night stand, dude, piss off
Blocking the number, Virgil didn't need to be reminded of his mistakes throughout the day. Taking a quick shower, Virgil pulled on some clean clothes, texting his boss he'd be over in five.
He only worked at the local cafe, nothing special, but enough for rent every month. Although, his boss was very lenient, and due to the fact he already has quite a few workers, he doesn't mind when they arrive, as long as they do show up.
Drinking a quick coffee, Virgil left his apartment, happy to not see Betty again on his way out. Yet, the guy from earlier, Patton? Still lingered on his mind. He couldn't remember being told someone was moving in, although he doesn't remember a lot of things told to him in the morning after, so he couldn't complain. As long as Patton didn't bother him, he's fine.
And besides, he can't do much. It's not his apartments.
Entering the cafe, he yawned for the seventh time on that short walk, nodding a little to his boss who smiled as he passed. Sliding on the uniform in the back room, Virgil strode up to the counter, rested against it, and did nothing. It wasn't busy, so until someone came up to the counter, he was good. A thought made him chuckle to himself, the fact that he reminded himself of Squidward, hating his job, hating everyone around him, wanting to be alone...yeah, it was uncanny.
The day passed rather quickly, and before he knew it it was dark outside.
Taking his leave, instead of going home like he does...never...he went to the strip club he visits daily, mostly because he wants to forget. And what better way to do that then drink and have sex?
Heading in, a few of the workers who walked by with drinks and barely any clothes sent him winks, as he was a usual visitor. He smirked back, mostly everyone knowing he was gay, so the only times one of the girls talk to him is when they're having normal conversation. Sitting at the bar, someone tapped his shoulder, surprise showing on his face clearly as he realised it was Patton from this morning. Giving him a once over, Virgil did admit the man was hot.
"Hey, I didn't catch your name earlier" he smiled softly, nothing like the other workers. Virgil leaned on the counter, raising his eyebrow, was this man really meant for this job?
"Virgil" he replied, nodding at the man who slid him a drink.
"Why're you here?" Patton asked, gazing around the tables of people. Virgil shrugged, sipping the alcohol that burned down his throat pleasantly. "To forget" he replied, making Patton turn to him, eyebrows creased in worry. Snorting, Virgil sighed out, he didn't need sympathy, his life was a train wreck, unable to get back on track.
He didn't even think he had any tracks. Metaphorically.
"Forget what?" Patton pushed, but someone called his name. The man sighed, biting his lip and gazing at Virgil again. "I can get off early tonight, help you home and-"
"Dude, you barely know me, why are you trying to help?" Virgil cut him off, sounding a little harsher than he meant. "...I've seen many people waste away their lives in places like this, you're young, I don't want it happening to you" he replied softly, rubbing his shoulder before walking away to the voice that called, Virgil watched as a few people slapped his ass as he went by, but Patton seemed to be used to it, he assumed so anyway as he didn't even flinch.
Turning back to the glass, he thought about what Patton said, sighing out deeply. Wasting away his life in a place like this seemed like the only option he had left at this point. After his parents kicked him out to the streets with nothing but the clothes he wore that night, he lost the motivation to do anything. It's a surprise he's here, still alive, to be honest.
Finishing the drink, he mindlessly played with the glass until someone say beside him. Glancing over, he caught Virgil's attention, looking...one night stand worthy.
After they spoke for awhile, Patton suddenly stood beside Virgil, staring at the man with a polite smile. "I'm sorry, he's with me" he chuckled lightly, the man quickly apologised and left, leaving Virgil to look at Patton, flabbergasted. "What the hell-?!"
"Virgil" Patton spoke firmly, staring down at him.
"Jesus, you're not my-"
"Virgil" Patton repeated, cutting him off, raising an eyebrow. For some reason, Virgil closed his mouth, head involuntary staring at the ground as if he were a child being told off. What the fuck?
"Wait by the door, I'll be there soon, okay?" Virgil couldn't do anything but nod, slipping down off the stool he stood in the doorway, arms crossed and eyes narrowed. He was still salty from the cock-block, and the sudden power Patton had over him. No one has ever done that to him before, why would they? But he doesn't even know Patton!
"Have everything?" Patton asked, scaring Virgil a little at his sudden presence.
"Yeah, except my will to live" he muttered in reply, leaving the building with Patton behind. "Here" he pointed towards his car, Virgil sighed but got in, slumping in his seat and crossing his arms. He couldn't believe his next door neighbour was driving him home. It was like he was sixteen!
"Don't glare, it makes you look like an angry kitten" Patton commented, making Virgil bolt up right in his seat, turning to glare daggers into the man driving the car calmly.
"I didn't ask for you to care for me! All you know about me is my name! Why can't you leave me alone-!?"
"Don't raise your voice" Patton replied, making Virgil shut up instantly. "I'm not leaving you alone, you need someone to care for you, you don't know what you're doing. I assume your parents kicked you out?"
Virgil's eyes widened as he pressed himself against the door. "H-how did you know that?" He stammered, finally feeling a little scared, he'd gotten into a car with a stranger who has power over him already?
"You're young and live in a crappy apartment, and you're gay...don't worry, I was kicked out too" Patton sent him a reassuring smile, rubbing his thigh calmingly. "Don't be scared, I won't hurt you" Patton spoke, but this time his voice was soft and trusting, Virgil didn't realise but he relaxed into the seat, the feeling of fear vanishing.
But he did enjoy the hand rubbing his thigh, and he think Patton noticed because he didn't stop until the reached the apartment block. Locking the car, they walked into the building together, both staying silent.
"Thanks" Virgil stopped beside his apartment door, fumbling with his sleeves. "You're welcome" Patton smiled, stopping next to him as if waiting for him to carry on moving. "This is my-"
"You're staying in my apartment tonight" he cut him off, something he's doing a lot. "What? You think I trust you to not sneak out?" Waiting for him to move, Virgil stuttered for some sort of reply, but after catching Patton's gaze, he ducked his head and rushed to his apartment, keeping his head down to not annoy the man who calmly unlocked the door, letting him in.
"W-where shall I sleep-?"
"My bed, first room to the right" Patton replied, shooting him a smile before heading into the kitchen, the light illuminating some of the living room Virgil stood in. Biting his lip, Virgil couldn't help the feeling of butterflies that swarmed his stomach, honestly...enjoying being told what to do and looked after by this man he still didn't know anything about.
Taking off his shoes and placing them neatly by the door, he walked to where he said his bedroom was, standing by the foot of the bed obediently, but messing with his sleeves nervously. A little bit of him thought Patton brought him here to have sex, but he couldn't imagine Patton doing something like that. Not yet, anyway.
The door opened and Virgil ducked his head, hearing his footsteps until his eyes caught sight of his feet which stopped in front of his own. Patton tilted his head up, smiling at Virgil who's wide eyes were hidden mostly behind his bangs.
"You're adorable" Patton whispered, making Virgil blush brightly.
Chuckling, he stepped back, Virgil keeping his head up this time.
"Are you comfortable sleeping in just boxers?"
"Uh...y-yeah-"
"Then strip" Patton commanded, making no moves to leave. Hesitating, Virgil felt his heart beat quicken, suddenly feeling nervous, something he never feels in situations like these.
"Did you lie?"
"Huh?"
"About feeling comfortable?"
"N-no...I just-..." Virgil shook his head, tugging off his shirt and placing it by his feet, avoiding Patton's eyes as they obviously stared at his body, dropping his trousers and stepping out of them, standing in just his boxers, head turned away.
"Turn around" Patton said, walking up to him. Doing so, he felt Patton gently brush his cold fingers against the top of his back, taking in a sharp intake of air as he did.
"The scars, where are they from?"
"O-oh" Virgil stammered, hands messing with each other. "F-from my Dad...he really hated me when I came out..." Virgil explained, feeling Patton hug him from behind tightly and securely. Virgil melted into him, reaching up to hold his arm that wrapped around his torso. "I'm sorry he hurt you" Patton whispered, pressing delicate kisses against his shoulder.
"It's-it's fine" Virgil shuddered, head falling back against Patton's shoulder. "It doesn't bother me anymore.." Patton nodded, pressing one more lingering kiss before leading him to the bathroom, letting him brush his teeth with his toothbrush.
"This is sudden" Patton commented once they walked back into the dark room, but the bright moon lit it up enough for them to see each other's faces. "But I want you to be mine"
This caught Virgil off guard, stammering and blushing, Patton let out his adorable giggle which made him seem he'd be the opposite of the dominate man he is.
"Y-you do? Why me?"
Patton pulled him close by his waist, rubbing his sides softly, making him shiver in delight.
"Why not? You're cute, and quite submissive, but also angsty..." Patton smirked, watching him blush and look away, trying to argue against his words but all Patton had to do was lean down close to his lips, grazing them lightly. Virgil's breathing hitched, his dilated eyes staring into Patton's normal ones.
"Can I kiss you?" Patton whispered, Virgil couldn't speak, so instead he nodded, legs almost giving way from under him as Patton kissed him passionately, wrapping arms around his waist as the man nearly collapsed before him.
Chuckling, Patton leaned back, staring at his parted lips and half-closed eyes.
Pulling him to the bed, Patton laid him down, pulling the blanket over him as he did a few lay things around the house. Turning off lights, locking doors, and such before walking into his bedroom, laying beside the man who waited patiently for his return.
Virgil looked up at him questioningly, silently asking if they could cuddle, all Patton had to do was open his arms and Virgil snuggled right against him, quickly falling asleep, feeling safe and cared for.
Five months later
"Is this him?" Roman asked Patton, smiling at Virgil who sat on the end of the couch, shyly hiding his face from the new people. Patton nodded and grinned, calling him over. Of course, Virgil obeyed, standing behind his boyfriend.
"Virgil, don't be shy, this is Roman, and that's Logan!" Patton pointed out. "Greetings, cutie" Roman winked, kissing the back of his hand. Virgil blushed, unable to respond to his outgoing gesture.
"Roman" Patton smiled softly, turning to Logan who stuck out his hand for a more...normal greeting. "Salutations, Virgil. It is wonderful to finally meet the man who made Patton happy"
Virgil shook his hand, glancing up at Patton curiously. "I made you happy?"
Patton nodded, leaning down to kiss him softly.
"You make me happy everyday, Angel"
