If Only 3 - Logan x Patton & Roman x Virgil
—
The mind was eerily silent that morning, Patton and Virgil stopped crying during the night, now they only felt numb pain. Logan had moved back to his own room, wanting to be alone to...think.
Roman rolled out of bed that morning feeling like shit. The guilt mixed with confusion and slight heartbreak made him want to do nothing but lay in bed all day, staring at the wall.
But, he wouldn't, that would be stupid.
So, instead, he had a quick shower, (which didn't help) changed into new, clean clothes, grabbed his sword and headed off to the imagination, leaving a note on his door to anyone who would question where he had disappeared off to.
That is if anyone would care.
It turned twelve before Patton stood up, nausea making the room spin, a headache pounding in his mind from all the crying. He let out a soft cry, gripping his head tightly to try and dull the pain.
He slowly staggered to the kitchen, clumsily looking through the cupboard until he pulled out some painkillers. He looked over the bottle, taking out two, gulping them down with water.
He glanced down at the bottle, licking his dry lips.
"A few more won't hurt..." he whispered, taking out three more. He swallowed them before he could change his mind, putting away the bottle and closing the cupboard slowly. He washed the cup, dried it, put it back and left to his room.
Being so tired and all over the place, Patton accidentally stumbled into Logan's room, collapsing to the floor. Logan was brushing his hair to the side at the time, flinching when Patton thudded against the carpet.
"Patton?" He asked the Dad like trait, Patton lifted himself up, rubbing his stinging eyes.
"Why..." he yawned, "You in my room?"
"...this is my room"
Patton finally glanced around, a little 'oh' escaping his lips. Logan helped him up and Patton swatted him away, pouting. "I'm still mad"
"I know, and I am sorry"
"...really?"
Logan nodded, "I did some...thinking...and I came to the conclusion that I still love you, Patton...but I also love Roman"
"You know what you have to do" Patton replied, turning and walking to the door.
"What?"
Patton paused in the doorway, "Choose"
Choose? Choose?
...could he choose? Either way, he'll hurt someone, and that's the last thing he wants, could he choose neither?
But that would hurt both...
He sighed, dragging a hand down his face.
Patton or Roman...
Virgil wasn't doing any better, he was just as tired as Patton, probably more, his body felt weak, his heart in pain, but he knew he had to talk to Roman.
He stumbled to the royals room, taking down the note and reading it quickly.
In the imagination, if anyone cares - Prince
Virgil's heart dropped, the note slipped past his fingers and he speed walked to the imagination door, heading inside.
He hated the imagination, even if there is some good it's mostly bad, with evil creatures and such...stuff that could easily kill you without you even knowing it was there.
He stuffed his hands into his pocket, marching across the grass to where he knew Roman to be whenever in this horrible place. It didn't take long, and once Virgil spotted the Prince he sighed out in relief.
Princey stabbed his sword through an evil creature heart, watching black ooze drip out until his body disintegrated into the air. "Roman...?"
Roman spun around, glancing at Virgil. "Virgil?....hi" he awkwardly greeted, cleaning his sword on the grass before putting it away.
"Why are you here?"
Virgil shrugged, kicking the ground with his foot, keeping his eyes anywhere but on the royal a few feet away.
"Wanted to talk.."
Roman nodded, keeping his distance. "I'm-...I can't express how sorry I am for hurting you, Virgil...I didn't mean to kiss him- one thing led to another-"
"Did you want to?"
"...huh?"
"Did you want to kiss him?"
Roman hesitated, knowing the answer but not wanting to admit it. Virgil scoffed lightly but he still knew it was his fault.
"I'm sorry, to" he shrugged, confusing Roman.
"I'm a bad boyfriend, you got bored...I get it"
"What? Bad? Virgil, no!" He denied instantly, "You have been the best boyfriend I've ever had - and you know how many princes I dated as a teen...I love you, Virgil, I never got bored, I don't know why I...I fell for Logan, I never meant to, please understand if I could turn back time I wouldn't kiss him, I -...I'm sorry, this is all my fault, don't be mad at Logan, please"
By the end Roman was begging, Virgil believed what he said because it was true, all of it, even if Virgil felt like it was still his fault...he still loved Roman, but he knew in Romans' heart Logan was still there...
Not wanted, might he add.
"Who do you want to be with?" Virgil asked Roman licked his lips, eyes flickering around.
"I....I-..."
"I'll...leave you to...choose" Virgil spoke, turning and vanishing to the mind, leaving Roman alone in the imagination to think.
Virgil or Logan.
After Roman killed a few more creatures out of pure anger he headed back to the door leading to the mind, ignoring the taunts from the flying creatures above.
"The Prince broke lover-boys heart!"
"He's in love with another!"
"You don't deserve love"
Roman kicked open the door, slamming it shut before the creature could say anything else. He dropped off his sword in his room before heading to Logan's, Virgil watched secretly, thinking the worst (that he was going to choose Logan) Virgil hid away in his room, crying silently under the blanket.
Roman stood up straight, knocking three times on Logan's door. "Logan? Are you there?"
The logical trait opened his door, meeting Romans gaze. "May I come in?"
Logan paused, chewing his lip, something Roman thought he would never do. "Sure" he finally replied, letting Roman pass. The royal thanked him quietly, sitting slowly on his plush bed, hands gripping the edge, head titled down to stare at his shoes.
"Why are you here?"
"Virgil told me to choose" Roman replied.
"Patton gave me the same instructions"
Roman let out a little chuckle, but it sounded empty.
The silence was deafening...
"Have you chose?"
Roman looked up, staring at the man in front of him, eyes softening. "I...I have not, have you?"
Logan shook his head, sitting beside Roman comfortably, the room fell into silence once more, both thinking about the outcomes of who they would date.
If Roman chose Virgil he would hurt Logan, but Logan would have Patton. If he chose Logan he would hurt Virgil, but Virgil would too, have Patton.
It seemed Patton was the lifeline for everyone here, but Roman feared Patton didn't like him.
In fact, he always felt like that.
Didn't like is a bit extreme, but Roman was his least favorite, anyway. That's what he thought.
Roman held his head in his hands, sighing out. "Are you okay?" Roman decided to ask, Logan nodded, asking the question back.
"I'm fine"
Logan scoffed, "the biggest lie in the world..."
"Okay, Tumblr boy" They both chuckled at this, catching each other's gaze, they looked away again, emotions eating away at them, Logan hated it the most.
"It would be unfair for us to choose each other" Logan pointed out, "you're right" Roman replied.
The royal trait stood up, pulling Logan into a hug which he gladly excepted. "I love you" Roman whispered, rubbing his back softly.
"I love you too" Logan replied. Both boys pulled back, giving each other weak smiles.
"Go get Patton, I bet he's worriedly pacing around his room..." Roman chuckled, the chuckle filled with pain instead of humor.
"If Patton is worried I dare not imagine what Virgil is" Roman nodded, they both left the room, looking at each other one last time they walked to their lover's rooms.
"Virgil..?"
"Y-Yeah?"
"May I tell you who I have chosen?"
"...Whatever"
Roman headed in, sitting on Virgil's bed with a smile, he rubbed his arm which was under the covers, like the rest of him. "So...Who is it?" Virgil finally mumbled, still not moving from his comfortable bed.
Roman leaned over, pulling the blanket down and pressing a kiss to his lips. "You, silly" he grinned.
Virgil froze for a few seconds, a smile creeping onto his face. He sat up and hugged Roman tightly, hiding his face in his chest. "Don't ever cheat on me again...I swear to god-"
"I know, I know" Roman chuckled, kissing his head. "I'm a horrible, horrible boyfriend, I will always feel guilty for ever kissing someone other than you...I hope one day you will find it in your heart to forgive me...and until then I will treat you like my Prince, and afterward...of course" Roman poured out without able to stop.
Virgil blushed, pulling back to stare at his boyfriends face.
"Treat me like a Prince, eh? That day might come sooner than you think..."
Roman smiled, nuzzling his nose against Virgils.
"Thank you, Dearest"
Logan was currently sitting on Patton's bed, Patton clinging onto him like a koala bear, his emotions forming into words he couldn't stop fall from his mouth...
"And-and I'm so sorry, I-I didn't mean to get mad, I just l-love you so much, I can't bare to live a life wi-without you! I-I can't believe I hit you! I'm so sorry" he sobbed, "I-I'll never hit you again! I-I promise! I don't know why I did it-! I just-I'm so so so so so so sorry!"
Logan listened to everything he said, knowing it was better for Patton to finish instead of cut him off.
"None of this is your fault, Patton-"
He sniffled, nodding hurriedly, leaning back from the hug but still sitting on his lap. "I hit you, L-Logan..."
"But I hurt you more, emotionally, I do not care about the slap...I deserved it"
Patton went on another rant for five minutes about how he didn't deserve the slap and Logan finally understood Patton will go on the entire night.
...and week.
He leaned in, kissing Patton for a few seconds, which definitely shut him up. "I choose you" he whispered, delicately gliding a finger across Pattons cheek to clean away the fallen tears that stained his soft skin.
"Y-you did?"
Logan nodded and Patton let out a chuckle of relief, smiling brightly, still crying a little, saying they were tears of joy.
"I love you" Patton beamed, hugging him tightly. Logan hugged back, "I love you, to"
A few weeks later all sides were in the living room, Roman cuddling Virgil on his lap while Patton coloured in, sitting comfortably next to Logan.
"Not to...ruin the mood, or anything" Virgil spoke, "But...all of...what happened is behind us, right?"
"Of course" Roman smiled, kissing his cheek. "I love you" he smiled.
Two people knew it was a lie...
"Yes, it is all behind us, I only love Patton" Logan affirmed, letting Patton kiss his cheek happily.
Tears stung behind two pairs of eyes...
"That's a relief" Virgil mumbled, a small smile on his face. The others agreed, Patton leaning on Logan with a smile, finishing his drawing and moving onto a next one.
Two hearts shattered once more...
Roman and Logan glanced at each other the same time, both thinking what it would be like to be with the other...
They knew the feelings were still there, they knew this was hurting them more.
But they were the "protector" sides, being protective over Patton and Virgil, the more emotional ones.
They pushed away their own pain, they pushed away their own desires, because as long as Patton and Virgil were happy
Roman and Logan were, too
Even if that was far from the truth...the truth that they didn't want anyone to know
And that's how it will be...
Forever
Forever in pain, wondering what it would've been like if they listened to their screaming hearts and chose the other...
