Humans lived in fear of dragon witches, they would sometimes fly over land and swoop down to take anyone in their sight, usually knights are informed as quickly as possible but they don't always come in time...
People are advised to stay near to towns and villages as every town and village as their own knights, everyone knows the further they stray the higher the chance you will die.
That's why it was rare to find a human out in the woods or away from civilisation.
Now, the entire world works this way but we will only be writing about three specific knights named Roman, Logan and Virgil.
They all lived in the same house together, protecting their village from dragon witches. Their village was one that didn't usually get attacked, which was why there was only three of them, they didn't worry too much but were always on high alert.
Virgil was strolling around the outskirts of the village, sweeping the area to see if he could find anything suspicious.
He whistled softly, following the song of the birds until he heard a whimper...
His head titled in that direction and his whistles died down. He slowly drew his sword and stalked through the woods and overgrowth, trying to be as quiet as possible.
The whimpers became clearer and clearer, Virgil for sure thought it was some sort of hurt animal until he pushed away the bushes and saw a dragon witch leaning on the tree.
It was hurt, Virgil could tell, this shall be easier to kill. Virgil came into view and the dragon witch looked up, eyes wide.
This was...unusual, usually dragon witches come to villages in their full form, it is when they're most strongest, this dragon witch was in its half human half dragon form.
It was mostly human with light blue wings protruding from its back and the same colour horns that had white on the tips on his forehead. His wide blue piercing eyes stared in fear at Virgil who held his sword tightly and stood in a fighting stance.
He backed into the tree, his blue scaly mermaid tail-like skin glistened under the sun and Virgil did think he looked very beautiful.
It was sad, dragon witches were magnificent looking creatures, especially in their full form, unfortunately they had to be evil.
"Pl-please" the dragon witch begged, which made Virgil stop. A dragon witch...begging? He had never heard something so rare.
"Why are you here?" Virgil asked, still holding his sword.
The dragon witch lifted its wing, Virgil saw it was broken but dragon witches can heal any part of their body with the right amount of time, a broken wing usually takes up to at least two weeks before it is fully healed.
"I can't-I left" he stuttered, still not letting his gaze on Virgils eyes go. "I don't want to be evil...they banished me from their land, please help me" the dragon witch pleaded softly, tears welling in their spectacular eyes.
Virgil put down his sword, sliding it into the (insert whatever holds a sword is called here).
He reached is hand down and the dragon grabbed it, pulling him onto his feet the witch stumbled but gained its balance.
"What's your name?" Virgil asked, "P-Patton" they whispered, Virgil nodded and sneakily helped Patton into his house.
"Lay on my bed or whatever...I'll be back...sometime" Virgil mumbled vaguely, turning and leaving his room.
Patton laid on his stomach, letting his wing rest without any pressure being put on it. Closing his eyes he finally got the rest he's been deprived from for a few days.
During the next week Virgil cared for the dragon witch, some would say he's betraying his kind, others would say he should just kill it, but no one knows, so he doesn't care.
One night Virgil walked into his room and Patton sat up, smiling. His wing was nearly all better, a few more days and he'll be completely fine. Oh also, he had a tail, the same colour as his wings, light blue and sparkly.
"Stay here, there's cookies in the kitchen..I'll bring you them soon" Patton nodded and Virgil left, he waited for a few minutes but thinking about the cookies made his mouth water.
"He won't know...its only one-...two cookies" Patton grinned and dashed out of the room. He silently walked to the kitchen where he climbed the shelves and balanced cautiously while opening the cookie jar and taking a few.
(He basically looks like Po (vid above) when he was doing the splits to get the cookies)
Roman hummed a tune, walking to the kitchen with a skip in his step. He looked up absentmindedly and dropped what he was holding, his eyes widened as he stared at the dragon witch who was eating the cookies.
Patton ate another before he even noticed Roman, once their eyes met Roman screamed.
The scream made Logan dash in, he handed Roman his sword while holding his own.
Patton jumped down and pressed himself into the corner, "don't hurt me! Please! I'm friends with Virgil!" He cried, shrinking back when Logan and Roman stepped closer.
"Liar" Roman spat, holding the knife above his heart, the only way to kill a dragon witch.
"He would never be friends with the species that attack our race for the fun of it" Logan added, eyes narrowed.
Patton clenched his eyes shut and began to cry, absolutely terrified.
"Patton! No, stop!" Virgil jumped in front of Patton, holding his hands up. Roman and Logan stared at him like he was crazy, "what are you doing?!" Roman exclaimed, throwing his arms up.
"Are you defending a dragon witch?" Logan asked in disbelief, Virgil sighed and reached around to hold Pattons hand in his own.
Hesitantly Virgil explained everything that had happened the last week, from Virgil helping him when he was hurt to now.
After his explanation Roman stormed out of the room, Virgil knew he would be mad which was why he never wanted them to know. But, he guessed this was for the best.
"I cannot believe this" Logan muttered, "look, I know-"
"Do not try and defend oneself, you let a dragon witch into our home, not only endangering us but the entire village-!"
"Logan-!"
"What if he killed us in our sleep, Virgil? Did you think of our safety-?"
"Logan-!"
"Or did you only think of what was best for him a dragon witch"
"LOGAN! SHUT. UP!" Virgil finally screamed, Logan clamped his mouth shut and Virgil glared, taking a step to the side for logan to be able to see a cowering Patton.
He waved him up and down, "you think he could harm anything?" He asked, Logan finally looked at him properly, he had no muscles, no claws, his horns didn't even look sharp and unlike most dragon witches he had no sharp ends on his wings...
He did look like a safe version of a dragon witch, also dragon witches never show their fear but Patton was showing all of it.
"I see.." Logan trailed off, "I trust you, Virgil, you know that...I am a little angry you did not tell us sooner, I understand that a baby could push him over but...next time tell us, please?" Logan asked.
Virgil nodded and Patton shuffled closer to Virgil, hugging him from behind, still shaking.
"Could you look after him? I need to find Roman" Virgil said, Logan was hesitant but he agreed and Virgil left in search for his friend.
He found him at the furthest edge of their village, slashing a tree with his sword, Virgil watched with crossed arms.
"Dude"
Roman paused but carried on.
"Roman" He said, firmer this time, Roman didn't stop and Virgil tugged his shoulder. Roman finally spun around, looking as angry as he did before.
"We could be dead"
"But we're not"
"It could have killed us!"
"But he didn't"
Roman growled, stomping his foot like a child. "That doesn't change the fact that you let him into our house! Did you even think of-"
"Roman, you know me, I overthink everything, do you really believe that I would let a dragon witch into our house without taking proper precautions? I was anxious during the entire week! The same thought ran through my mind, what if he will turn and kill me? But he didn't, an entire week! Dragon witches are the most impatient species of all!" He ranted
"I know you're angry, and I know you're scared...but it's the same for humans, some are good, some are not...he's one of the good ones, Roman, believe it" Virgil finished, Roman stared at him with a blank expression for a few seconds, his anger demeanour faltering.
"Are you positive it won't hurt us?"
Virgil nodded, "not so positive on me not hurting you if you call him an it one more time"
Roman held his hands up in surrender and the two walked home. "Where is he?" Virgil asked upon entering the house and spotting Logan.
"He is in your room"
"Please! Let me out!" They all heard a faint scream, Virgil glared at Logan who looked down, ashamed.
He ran up the stairs and found him locked in a small cupboard, "Logan! You know dragon witches are claustrophobic!" He yelled, pulling open the door with all his strength.
Patton fell out in a mess of sobs, he was shaking so much he couldn't control himself, Virgil hugged him close and Patton gripped onto him like a vice.
"I'll protect you" Virgil whispered
The next few weeks were filled with Virgil never leaving the house, caring for Patton. Roman and Logan didn't trust him for days before they succumbed. And...it didn't take long before they were acting like a family.
One night after a movie Logan and Roman had fallen asleep leaning on each other, Virgil and Patton were still awake.
Patton sat up and grinned, "wanna see me fly?" He asked giddily, after his wing had healed he didn't want to use it for awhile just incase.
"Sure" Virgil shrugged, Patton jumped up and flapped his outstretched wings, floating off of the couch. He cheered happily and flew around the large room, closing the curtains and flicking off the lights before landing next to Virgil.
"I gotta admit, that was cool" Virgil shrugged, Patton grinned and nestled into his side, Virgil smiled slightly and awkwardly wrapped his arms around his dragon witch.
"Thank you" Patton mumbled, sitting up on his lap. "You saved me" he added, leaning in he gave him a small kiss before burying his head back into his neck.
Virgils face lit up and he tensed for a few seconds, the prospect that Patton kissed him somehow hard to believe.
Once he finally relaxed Patton had already fallen asleep, with a tiny smile Virgil cuddled into his warm body, subconsciously Patton wrapped his wings around him, tugging him closer and warming him up.
Virgil closed his eyes and fell asleep, cuddled up to his side.
