No One Cares About The Prince - Roman x Virgil

Trigger warning: self deprecation

"Have a good sleep you two!" Patton waved at Logan and Virgil, "Good night, Patton" Logan replied and sunk down. Virgil did his little salute and mumbled a reply.

Patton hummed in happiness, "I definitely earned two cookies" he said before sinking down. Roman noticing he didn't get a goodnight.

"You okay, Roman?" Thomas smiled.

"Why wouldn't I be? I look" he titled his head, "like a god"

"Daw, thanks" Thomas winked jokingly. Roman rolled his eyes and said goodnight to his host, sinking down into his room. He was used to not being told goodnight, Patton cares more for Logan and Virgil as Virgil is like his son and Logan is his boyfriend.

Roman? Roman was just...a close friend...or just a friend.

He sat at his desk and decided to write down all the bad things that happen to him during the day, maybe it will help? Grabbing his diary he opened it to a new page and wrote.

No one cares:
1. No "goodnights"

Closing his diary he put it in his draw and went to bed, shoving negative thoughts to the side before he fell asleep, his night filled with happy dreams.

The next day all sides including Thomas were making a video, it went along normally until Logan said something.

"Just ask Roman" Virgil grumbled

"No, do not ask him, he is an idiot" Logan replied. Roman put on his usual offended look but he wasn't actually offended by the insult, he didn't...care. He had been called idiot so many times before his brain started to actually think he was an idiot, ever since he knew he wasn't being called idiot as an insult, he was being called an idiot because it was true.

He was stupid, and everyone knew it.

After the video he went straight to his room and grabbed his diary.

2. I am an idiot

Just a few hours later the sides were in the living room watching a movie, Roman left his room to go get a drink and paused in the living room doorway. They forgot to invite him, he shook his head, why would they? He would only annoy them with his singing.

He grabbed the drink and went back to his room, quietly closing the door.

3. No more movie nights

--

"Logan! Do you think this looks good?" Roman asked, showing a picture he drew a few hours prior.

Logan didn't hear him, he was too involved with his work. Roman frowned but shrugged it off, going to Patton and Virgil he asked the same thing but didn't get halfway through his sentence before Patton was ushering him out of the room.

"Sorry Roman! Father and son day!" Patton grinned, closing his door. Roman stood on the outside and bit his lip, looking down at the drawing he drew of them all....

"It's fine, Patton, I um...I understand" he spoke to the door, turning to go to his room, finally feeling the pain weighing down on his heart.

4. No more showing drawings

"Is everyone here?" Thomas asked, looking around the room. Patton, Virgil and Logan nodded.

"Great!" Thomas grinned and they all started the baking they had all agreed to do.

Roman being left out, of course.

He did find out, but they didn't notice. He watched as they talked, laughed, and baked. He left before his heart would break, he knows he wouldn't be invited to every bonding time they have but when he hasn't been invited for over two months? It starts to hurt, really bad.

5. No more bonding time

Roman disappeared into the imagination to get his mind off things, he saved princes and princesses, defeated bad guys, all normal stuff he did as a Prince. When leaving he noticed he was gone for an entire week without telling the sides before he left.

"Oh no! They're going to be worried!" He rushed to the living room and paused, they were playing Jenga like nothing was wrong.

"Hey Roman!" Thomas waved but went back to the game before Roman could reply. Did he not notice the small blood stains? Or the gash on his cheek...? Looks like no one really cared.

He left without a word.

6. No one cares if I'm hurt
7. No one cares if I disappear without a trace

During the week he kept adding and adding to his list of things, each time his heart falling apart more and more, his faith that the sides actually like him diminishing.

One day Virgil went to Romans room, "Princey I know you have my-" he stopped when he realised Roman wasn't there. He sighed, "I'll find it myself then" mumbling he went through Romans draws, stopping when he saw a book labelled diary.

"This should be good..." he grinned and flicked it open, skimming across pages until he stopped on one which was completely full. His eyebrows furrowed.

No one cares:
1. No "goodnights"
2. I'm an idiot
3. No more movie nights
4. No more showing drawings
5. No more bonding time
6. No one cares if I'm hurt
7. No one cares if I disappear without a trace
8. No one cares if I don't eat or drink
9. No one likes me
10. They hate me
11. I'm annoying
12. I'm sorry

A water drop slashed onto the page and Virgil read over and over the words, more tears slipping down his cheeks. Does Roman think this? Does he think we don't care? Virgil thought, going over each of them.

He did notice no one says goodnight to him anymore, he also calls him an idiot a lot but he doesn't mean it, they didn't invite him to movie night...oh god, oh no.

"Patton! Logan!" Virgil yelled, rushing out of the room with the diary still in his hands, the two appeared, both asking what was wrong.

"Look!" He showed them the diary and watched as their faces went from confusion to guilt in a matter of seconds.

"Where is he?"

"I wonder" He replied, Virgil turned around and Roman gave them a wave, taking back his diary and making his sword vanish.

"Roman-!"

"Now you care? Only now when you realise you have been horrible?" He shook his head, his smile holding pain along with his eyes. "You don't care about me, you care about clearing your conscious" Roman sighed.

"I "forgive" you" he turned on his heel and headed down the hall.

"Roman!" Virgil yelled, grabbing his arm.

"What now? Yes I'm an idiot, yes I'm annoying, yes you don't care! Please don't remind me" he pleaded.

"Roman shut up! None of that is true! I care about you- we all do! I'm...I'm sorry we forgot to invite you to movie nights and other things, when we do you look bored, we just thought you didn't want to go. We're sorry" Virgil spoke, Roman was still facing forward, clutching his diary and looking down.

"Thank you" Roman breathed in through his nose, "but you do not have to lie" he turned around and kissed Virgils forehead before he could protest.

"I will forever be a dumb prince in love" He smiled weakly, winked and vanished.

--

Recently I have noticed Prince hasn't been getting a lot of love, most of my one shots are either him giving people love, him not in them at all, or him playing the bad guy.

I guess he's an easy target, him being the most likely one to do bad things but I digress.
