August 30
I've made it onto the train and left John in the care of the capable sisters. They were all surprised at my wanting to leave. They claimed to understand when I said I had a terrible fear for my sickly friend.
Truthfully, I think they believed I'd gone insane! It was quite difficult for me not to have an outburst at their ill-concealed looks of distaste. "How could she leave her ill fiancé? What a crude woman!" They might as well have said it out loud and to my face. I would have had a word or two as a retort.
Honestly, if they all find John so amazing, they're free to take him for themselves; this woman places her friends over anyone else, thank you very much.
I've brought John's journal with me as I'm sure he has no use for it. He'd said multiple times he'd had no want to revisit the terrible writings that line its pages, so with me you shall come little journal. I'm sure it'll be of use to Helsing once I translate the shorthand for him.
Of course, my services won't come for free.
