MARGARET'S EYES OPENED AS the sun shone down on her, allowing the warmth to consume her body. Even though it was cold outside, the ball of fire still felt warm in a way.
She remembered every inch of this house, every little corner where Polly used to punish her, and one of the Shelbys because they had annoyed her. The woman walked down the stairs, instantly being greeted by the aunt with a cigarette in hand.
"Morning, love. Slept well?" Queried the woman.
Maggie hummed sitting down, her fingers running in her hair as she slightly pulled on them, "I did. Thank you." Smiled the woman. "What are we doing today?"
"You're gonna meet my son, Michael." Excitedly answered the woman, not being able to hide the excitement. Michael Gray was probably the person she cherished the most. "Ada is meeting us here, and then we meet the rest at the hospital."
Margaret nodded her head, wrapping her hands around the cup of tea Polly had prepared for her. She wasn't the type to drink tea, but for today it would do. A happy sigh left her rosy lips as she realized, she finally slept through the whole night without nightmares nor dreams— just a peaceful night.
Her head snapped towards the front door as the Thorne woman strolled in the house, "Morning, girls." Beamed Ada as she sat next to Maggie. "You look less tired." Commented the woman, analyzing her friend's face.
Polly chuckled, "It is because she finally had a whole fucking night of sleep, Ada."
Pol moved the curtains with her pen as she heard a car, she stood up putting the pen down and walked straight to her dresser to grab her revolver. Maggie rose to her feet and looked at herself in the mirror, a soft smile grew on her face as she found herself quite satisfied with how she looked today.
"Come on, Tommy's excepting us." Spoke Ada as she peeped at the women in the living room.
Polly glanced towards the window, inhaling the smoke, "Who's with us?"
"Isaiah and a Lee boy." Replied the woman, waiting for them.
The aunt gracefully faced Ada and Maggie, "How long since you've had a fuck?"
Ada seemed to be offended by the question as Maggie simply laughed, "What?"
Pol shrugged, "It's been nearly two years with me." Added the middle aged woman as she crushed the butt of her cigarette, and grabbed her black gloves. "Over Christmas, I counted it up. So I've made a New Year's resolution to change the situation."
"Dear God, Polly." Chuckled Maggie shaking her head in disbelief. "Anyone particular in mind?"
She simply sighed before grabbing her briefcase, "Not really. Just me and someone unsuitable." Replied the woman as Ada and Margaret shared a look.
The three women headed outside as a few Peaky Blinders bowed their heads towards them, exactly knowing who they were. Ada Thorne-Shelby, Polly Gray, and the mysterious woman who seemed to invade Thomas Shelby's thoughts— Margaret Kegley. Polly reached the driver, handing him her suitcase.
"I'll sit in the front." Talked the woman as she moved on the other side of the car.
Maggie glanced at Ada, "How long since you've had a fuck, though?" Curiously quizzed Maggie.
Ada simply rolled her eyes as she walked past the woman, "Should I ask you the same question, Maggie, right?"
"A month. It has been a month." Honestly admitted the woman as she hopped in the back of the car. "Fucking hell, don't even ask me who it was. Can't remember his face." Laughed the brunette as Ada was fast to let out a laugh.

Margaret walked by Lizzie's side, feeling uncomfortable after the small fight Ada and Polly just had. The four women ambled through the hospital's corridor as Polly led the way to her son's room. She pushed the doors revealing Thomas and Michael.
Margaret's green eyes immediately landed on Tommy as it seemed his icy blue eyes had done the same thing, both somehow feeling relieved to see each other alive and well. The truth was that the Shelby hadn't slept more than two hours or so, his mind overwhelmed with Maggie and Luca Changretta who was at his factory yesterday. Threatening him.
Everyone sat at the table as Tommy stood up, his arms gesturing around as if he silently asked where his brother was, "Where's Arthur?"
Polly threw the bouquet of flowers on the bed before making her way to the table, "Do I look like his fucking mother?" She mumbled sitting down as Maggie glanced at Thomas. "Maggie meets Michael, my son."
Michael offered his hand to the woman, "Heard a lot about you, Maggie."
Maggie hummed shaking his head, "Yep. Me too. Nice to meet you, Michael." Smiled the woman and Thomas cleared his throat starting the meeting.
"Right, before we start this extraordinary general meeting of the board of the Shelby Company Limited, I'd like to note the absence of the Deputy Vice President who has not yet arrived." Remarked Tommy giving everyone files, including Maggie which made her give him a look. "We will continue without his presence."
Margaret took a cigarette, put it between her lips, and brought the lighter to the tip of her cigarette. She inhaled deeply before blowing the smoke towards the ceiling. Honestly, she wasn't part of the company but she just stuck around because Thomas had asked her to do so. So technically, she had no need to listen to their conversations nor be part of their business. The only thing she could do was let the smoke spread in her lungs as she stared at every single person in the room.
Lizzie, Ada, Polly, Michael, and finally Thomas.
Tommy's eyes would occasionally drift towards Maggie as he spoke, and every single time his heart would beat a little faster than usual and the corners of his mouth would slightly go up.
"Item number two, during the absence of the company accountant due to ill health, all responsibility of company accounts pass to Margaret Kegley." Spoke Thomas as Maggie snapped her head towards the man, her mouth slightly open in shock at the statement.
Maggie gulped, "What?"
Thomas simply slid her the contract with a pen, "You know how to manage numbers, Maggie, right?" Margaret hummed, still in shock. "Michael and I talked about it, you'll be managing the company accounts."
The brunette simply sighed, knowing she hadn't a choice. Her fingers firmly held the pen as she signed the white paper with words she couldn't care less reading, "Here you go." Muttered the woman.
"All those in favors of the reinstatement of Mrs. Elizabeth Gray, to the position of the Shelby Company Limited Company treasurer, please raise your hands." Asked Thomas as everyone around the table put their hand in the air, soon following with a sarcastic comment from Polly. "Any other business?"
The whole table stayed silent, allowing Thomas to continue so he could talk about real business. They all stayed sitting at the table and Maggie kept watching her watch, hoping Arthur would show his fucking face. Tommy was slowly losing it and everyone could see.
"He's an hour late, Tom." Stated Maggie.
Thomas sighed, "All right, fuck him." He stood up again as Polly grabbed the briefcase she was holding earlier. "This business directly affects Arthur, but he's not here so we'll take a vote without him."
Ada tilted her head to the side, "What business?"
"Official business that wasn't on your agenda, Ada." Replied the aunt before Tommy could say a word. As he spoke, the woman gave everyone a picture which seemed to be a wedding one. "We found the man they hired for the photographs. I persuaded him to give copies and to enlarge this one. . ." She added handing a smaller photograph. "That is Luca Changretta."
Tommy continued, "I've seen his face, so I could pick him out."
"Most of the men in the photograph are Changrettas." Commented Margaret as she watched it closely. "Chances are these are the men who will come kill us."
"How the fuck do you know that?" Asked Michael, not knowing if he was impressed or doubting her.
Maggie silently chuckled, "I have men too, Michael."
Tommy pointed a finger toward Michael as a kind of warning, as if he could exactly read his cousin's thoughts, "Maggie is not a fucking traitor. We trust her, always did." Told Thomas as everyone agreed. "We need to get both of these photographs into pubs and on street corners."
A sigh left Margaret's lips as Polly and Thomas proposed to give Mr. Gold the photograph of Luca Changretta. Thomas asked them to raise their hands in order to know if they were agreeing on letting Mr. Gold do his work instead of Arthur, like the tradition. Ada seemed to hesitate but ended up raising her hand under the stern eyes of her brother.
"I'm not raising me fucking hand." Talked Maggie, feeling Thomas' eyes on her. "I'm leaving, now that this meeting is over." Added the brunette, putting on her coat, and left the room.
Thomas let out a long sigh, rubbing his eyes before gathering the papers. He peeped at Michael who seemed suspicious of the woman but Tommy knew she would never betray the Shelbys, especially him.
"You better go talk to her before she leaves." Said Polly grabbing her coat. "You know how Maggie is."
Michael scoffed, "What is so fucking special about her Tommy, eh?" Asked Polly's son.
Tommy raised his finger at him, holding his cigarette, "Don't you fucking talk of Margaret, you know nothing about her." Angrily said the man before storming out of the room.
Thomas walked through the corridors in hope to meet Margaret outside, and he was right. The woman was standing there, cigarette in hand as she waited for the man to talk to her. He stopped next to her, their shoulders lightly grazing as he grabbed a cigarette of his own.
"Slept well?" Muttered Tommy.
Maggie nodded her head, "Perfect."
The grey clouds hovered the sky, it felt almost as if it was going to rain even though the weather was rather good this morning. Thomas finally moved his head towards the woman, his blue eyes lingered on her side profile, and he sighed loudly not having an idea of what to say.
"Are you coming back? Or staying at Polly's?" He asked, deeply inside him hoping she would say yes because he only wanted her home— even if she refused to dance at night, to talk to him, he needed her presence so did Charles. "Charlie wants you."
Maggie arched an eyebrow, "Is that an attempt to make me come back?"
Thomas silently chuckled, "Yes. No." He replied. "Charles did ask for you yesterday night."
Margaret threw the cigarette on the ground then managed to face the man, "Is Charles home?" Tommy hummed, blowing the smoke on the side. "Then I'll go back home or do you need me to work on the company accounts?" Even that seemed weird to say.
"Nah, not today. Go home." He told her as she nodded her head. "I have business to take care of, but I will come back early. All right?"
Maggie shrugged, "I guess so." Thomas started to walk away, but she grabbed his wrist stopping him in his tracks. "Tommy, be careful, aye?"
Thomas gazed at her features, taking a minute to see her face clearly, "I will." He reassured her before walking to his car as Margaret stayed still, watching the man leave her sight.
