Chapter 20 ~ The Search

"Harry, where are we going?" I asked him as he was dragging me out of the Great Hall.

"We're going to find the Horcrux, of course!" Harry shouted, still holding onto my hand as we ran up some stairs.

"Well, where exactly--"

"Harry! Max!" Ron called out from behind us. We stopped running and turned around. "Hermione and I have been thinking..."

"I bet it was just Hermione who was thinking," I teased.

"Hey, I was thinking, okay?" he said to me. "Anyway, it doesn't matter if we find a Horcrux."

"What do you mean?" Harry asked.

"Well, unless we can destroy it, then there's no use in looking for one," Hermione spoke up.

"So we were thinking--"

"Well, Ron was thinking, actually. It was Ron's idea. It's brilliant," Hermione interrupted him.

"Told you I had been thinking!" Ron said to me. "But back to what I was saying, you two destroyed Tom Riddle's Diary with a Basilisk fang, right?"

"Well, I destroyed it," Harry answered. "Max was just there to distract the Basilisk from killing me."

"At least the diary was destroyed and Ginny was okay," I pointed out. "I made sure that Basilisk didn't get near you, Harry."

"Back to my brilliant idea now," Ron cut us off. "As I was saying, Harry destroyed the diary with the Basilisk fang. Well, me and Hermione think we know where we might find one."

We knew what Ron was talking about. He was talking about the Chamber of Secrets.

Harry nodded his head. "Okay, but take this," he said, handing Ron the Marauder's Map. "Use it to find us when you guys get back."

"Where are you two going?" Hermione asked us.

"Yeah, where are we go-- Harry!" When I turned around, Harry began running up the stairs again.

"We're going to the Ravenclaw Common Room!" he shouted as he turned around to face us. "Gotta start somewhere, right?"

With that, I parted ways with Ron and Hermione. I did my best to catch up with Harry while trying to dodge students that were running down the stairs.

"Harry, slow down!" I yelled at him. "You know that I'm slow!"

"Well, hurry up! We have to get to the Ravenclaw Common Room!" he shouted.

I groaned as I ran even faster when I began to chase him up the spiral staircase.

"Harry! Max!" I heard Luna's voice calling out to us from behind me. "Wait up! I need to talk to you two!"

"We're a bit preoccupied at the moment, Luna!" I shouted, not stopping or turning around for her.

"You won't find anything where you're going! You're wasting your time!"

"We'll talk later, okay, Luna?" Harry shouted.

"But, guys--"

"Later!" Harry and I shouted.

"HARRY AND MAXINE POTTER! YOU LISTEN TO ME RIGHT NOW!" Luna screamed at the top of her lungs, which made us turn around with wide eyes.

"Damn, she just used my real name," I whispered to Harry as he walked down beside me. "She's getting serious now."

"Don't you two remember what Cho said about the diadem?" Luna questioned. "There's not a person alive who's seen it. It's obvious, isn't it? We have to talk to someone who's dead."

All of a sudden, we heard a rumble. We looked out the window and saw a wave of blue spells surrounding the entire castle.

"They've already put up the protective enchantments," I said.

"Come on. We can't waste any more time," Harry said. "Lead the way, Luna."

Luna led us to the Ravenclaw Tower. It was a long walk, but I managed to not pass out by the time we reached our destination. We stood at the door that led us inside.

"You'll find her in here," she said, not telling us who she was talking about.

"Aren't you coming?" I asked her.

"No," she replied, shaking her head. "I think it's best if you two talk to her without me. She's very shy." With that, Luna left us to go join the rest of the students that were below us.

"Who the hell was she talking about?" I asked Harry, opening the door and entering inside.

"The Grey Lady, I suppose," he answered, following me.

"She doesn't like that name," I told him. "I've heard other Ravenclaws talk about her."

We walked farther inside the tower and finally saw her.

"You're the Grey Lady," Harry blurted out. "You're the ghost of Ravenclaw Tower."

"I do not answer to that name!" she scolded, turning away from him.

"I told you she didn't like it when people called her that!" I hissed at Harry, hitting his arm. "Go tell her that you're sorry."

Harry looked at me and slowly went up to her. "I-I'm sorry. It's Helena, isn't it? Helena Ravenclaw."

"You're Rowena's daughter," I added.

"Are you two friends of Luna's?" she asked us, turning around to face us.

"Yes," we replied at the same time.

"She thought you might be able to help us," Harry added.

She stared at us for a moment. "You two seek my mother's diadem."

"Wow. Pretty and smart," I mumbled under my breath.

"Yes, we're looking for her diadem," Harry told her.

Helena stared at us more. "Luna is kind, unlike so many of the others. I cannot help you two!" She turned away to leave once again.

"Wait! We want to destroy it!" I shouted at her. "That's what you want, too, isn't it, Helena? You want it destroyed."

"Another swore to destroy many years ago. A strange boy with a strange name," Helena said.

"Tom Riddle," Harry and I said.

"But he lied."

"He's lied to many people," Harry told her.

"I KNOW WHAT HE'S DONE! I KNOW WHO HE IS! HE TOOK THE DIADEM AND DEFILED IT WITH DARK MAGIC!" she yelled at Harry.

Helena floated away from Harry after screaming in his face. I looked at Harry and slowly made my way to Helena.

"We can destroy it once and for all," I told her calmly. "But only if you tell us where he hid it. You do know where he hid it, don't you, Helena? You just have to tell us and then we'll go. Please, Helena."

She slowly turned to face me. She studied the both of us, giving us odd looks. "Strange. You two remind me of him a bit," she said. "It's here. It's in the castle. It's in the place where everything is hidden. If you have to ask, you will never know. If you know, you need only ask."

Harry and I looked at each other and said, "The Room of Requirement," at the same time. We bid Helena thank you and we took off running out of the Ravenclaw Tower.

"Race you to the Room of Requirement," Harry joked with me.

"A race? At a time like this?" I asked him, dodging the students that were on the stairs, too. "Seriously, bro, you know that I would still beat you if You-Know-Who wasn't about to attack the castle."

He laughed. "It's like your jokes are becoming more funny every time you say them."

I rolled my eyes at him, a smile creeping up on my face. "If we managed to survive this war, then we'll come back here and have a race. Deal?"

"Deal," he repeated, laughing. "Here we are, running down stairs, getting ready for a war, and we're just making jokes."

"Well, I need a good laugh before the real action begins," I told him as we got down to the last steps.

All of a sudden, I stopped running, and so did Harry. We gasped and leaned against the wall for a moment. A rush of pain came over us. After a few seconds, we began to pant and eventually our breathing was normal again.

"Another Horcrux was destroyed," Harry said. I nodded my head in agreement.

We heard the sound of rumbling again. I looked outside and saw that the giant enchantment was now broken. "Harry, we need to get to the Room of Requirement right now."

He nodded his head in agreement and we took off running once again.

We ran down more stairs with other students and ducked whenever we heard explosions. We looked up and spotted a Death Eater coming our way.

"Stupefy!" Harry and I shouted at the same time, a blue light shooting out of our wands and hitting the Death Eater. We were about to run again until we saw Neville and Ginny heading our way.

"Ginny! Neville! Are you two alright?" Harry asked them, grabbing Ginny's hand.

"Never better!" Neville exclaimed with joy. "I feel like I can spit fire! You haven't seen Luna, have you?"

"Luna?" we said at the same time.

"I'm mad for her! I think it's about time I told her since we'll probably both be dead by dawn!" With that, Neville took off running in search of Luna.

"Okay, let's go, Har--" I stopped my sentence when I saw Harry and Ginny kissing. "OI! THERE'S A WAR GOING ON HERE!" I shouted at the two.

The two broke apart and Harry looked at me. "I know, sis. It's now or never, isn't it?"

After Harry said that, he made me realize that it really was now or never. That was when I thought about Draco. This war had kept us apart for far too long. We weren't able to see each other for a long time. We just had to hope that we would just run into each other, and we did at Malfoy Manor, but that reunion was not what I wanted it to be. I wanted to tell him everything that had happened after he left Hogwarts that night. I wanted to stay in his arms and just be with him. It was like my life was passing by me and I was doing nothing about it.

I had to tell him. I had to tell him that I loved him. I had to tell him before it was too late. I didn't want him to die like Cedric did.

"I-I'm sorry, Harry," I said to my brother. "I have to find Draco."

"What?" he asked.

"I'll meet you at the Room of Requirement. Right now, I have to find Draco." I began to run, but Harry grabbed my arm.

"Max, we need to go find that diadem! Why do you need to go find Draco?"

I gave him a pleading look. "I have to tell him that I love him before it's too late. I'll regret it if I don't go looking for him right now. I need to tell him. If one of us leaves this world tonight, then at least he'll know that I love him. Please let me go find him, Harry."

Harry gave me a sympathetic look. It was the look that everyone's dads would give to their little girl whenever they were moving out of the house or they were just about to get married. They didn't want to let her go, but they still did it, anyway, because they knew that it was the right choice. Harry was doing that now. He didn't want to let me go, but he knew he had to, because it was the right thing to do.

He nodded his head at me. "Okay. I'll meet you in the Room of Requirement."

I gave my brother a hug, wrapping my arms around him. "Thank you," I whispered in his ear.

We pulled away and we gave each other one last smile before I ran off to find the love of my life so I could tell him that I loved him and only him.

This war was not going to stop me from telling Draco how I really felt about him. Hopefully, I was right about that.
