Chapter 17 ~ Trouble at Gringotts
After my talk with Harry, we decided to figure out a plan to get into Gringotts. There was no doubt that Voldemort had the entire place loaded with some kind of security around Diagon Alley and Gringotts probably had the most security out of all the places there.
Hermione had a strand of Bellatrix's hair and decided to create some more Polyjuice Potion in order for Hermione to turn into the crazy Death Eater. It was a mad idea, but it was the only way Hermione was able to get inside Gringotts. Ron was planning to disguise himself as well. I was going to transfigure various aspects of Ron's appearance to disguise him as a Death Eater. Griphook, Harry, and I were planning to hide under the Invisibility Cloak.
"Are you sure that's her hair?" I asked Hermione.
"Positive," she replied, looking at the strand of hair.
"Well, let's get started with that Polyjuice Potion, then," I told her.
*******
The first of May came quicker than I thought it would. I was ready to sneak into Gringotts, get inside Bellatrix's vault, and find the Horcrux so we could destroy it. We still had to figure out how the hell we were going to destroy it now that Griphook was going to get the sword after we retrieved the Horcrux from the vault. I couldn't believe Harry just gave him the sword. On top of that, Harry and I had other problems to worry about, like not knowing if the Elder Wand belonged to him or to me. I knew that we had to tell the others sooner or later, because now was definitely not the time.
While Griphook, Ron, Harry, and I were waiting for Hermione, I looked down at Dobby's grave. "He didn't deserve to die," I spoke up.
Harry placed a hand on my shoulder. "No one deserves to die," he said.
I nodded in agreement. "You're right. But don't forget that we're trying to kill the greatest darkest wizard of all time..."
"Okay, You-Know-Who is an exception," Harry said, laughing.
I laughed with him. "Oh, he's definitely an exception."
After the laughing died down, Hermione, who now looked like Bellatrix, came outside and walked up to us. "Well? How do I look?" she asked us.
"Hideous," Ron, Harry, and I said at the same time.
"Thanks. That's what I was going for," she told us.
"Well, Bellatrix Lestrange isn't the most attractive woman in the world..." I pointed out.
"None of the Death Eaters are attractive," Ron added.
"Except Draco," I said, smiling a little.
Harry rolled his eyes at me and placed his hand in the middle of the five of us. "Okay, Griphook, we're counting on you to get us past the guards and inside Bellatrix's vault. After that, the sword is yours."
We Apparated to the edge of Diagon Alley. While Hermione was beginning to walk towards Diagon Alley, Griphook, Ron, Harry, and I did our best to stay hidden by leaning our backs against the wall.
"Madam Lestrange," a Death Eater said to Hermione, nodding his head.
"Good morning," Hermione blurted out, making the Death Eater eye her for a second before walking away from her. Hermione walked back to us in embarrassment.
"Good morning?" Griphook repeated. "You're Bellatrix Lestrange, not a schoolgirl! If you give us away, we might as well use that sword to slit your own throat!"
"Hey, take it easy on her," Ron protested, shooting Griphook a look.
"No, he's right. I was being stupid," Hermione told us, looking away.
"Just relax, Hermione," I said. "All you have to do is get us past the guards. You can do this."
Hermione nodded her head and took a deep breath. "Okay. Let's go. I don't know how long this Polyjuice Potion is going to last."
Hermione began walking towards Gringotts again. Griphook got on Harry's back and I stood beside them. Ron placed the Invisibility Cloak over our us before he followed Hermione up to Gringotts.
"This plan better work," I mumbled under my breath.
When we got there, Hermione stopped and looked at Ron. He gave her a look and Hermione turned back around. As she began walking, the poor girl was tripping over her own feet. The goblins and guards were eyeing her and Ron as they made their way to the front desk.
Hermione cleared her throat.
The goblin did not look up at her.
"I wish to enter my vault," Hermione said, folding her arms over her chest.
"Identification," he said, not looking up at her.
"I hardly think that will be necessary," she replied.
The goblin looked up at her and placed his quill down. "Madam Lestrange."
Hermione shot him a look that made him walk away from the desk.
"I don't like to be kept waiting!" she informed him.
"They know she's an imposter. They've been warned," Griphook whispered to us.
We turned around, except for Hermione, and saw a guard slowly walking towards us. All eyes were on us now.
"Harry, Max, what do we do?" Ron asked us in a low voice.
"Yeah, what do we do, Harry?" I whispered to my brother.
After a few more seconds, the goblin came back with another goblin standing behind him. "Madam Lestrange, would you mind presenting your wand?" he asked Hermione.
"And why should I do that?" she retorted.
"It's the bank's policy. I'm sure you understand, given the current climate," he said.
"No. I most certainly do not understand!" she said, raising her voice a little bit.
"I'm afraid I must insist," the goblin said.
The three of us quickly headed behind the desk.
"Imperio," Harry whispered, pointing his wand at the goblin.
Suddenly, everyone went back to work."Very well, Madam Lestrange. If you will follow me," the goblin told her.
I sighed in relief. "That was close," I whispered.
The goblin led us to an empty cart. The six of us piled inside and Griphook began driving it. There were twists and turns, which was scary, in my opinion.
All of a sudden, I heard the sound of squeaking and grinding against the tracks.
"What was that sound, Griphook?" I asked him.
He ignored my question. Before he stopped the cart, we went through a waterfall. Ron and Hermione were back to their original form. Suddenly, there was a light in front of us, then an alarm began to go off. Then, the seats below us fell, with us sliding out of the car. We all screamed at the top of our lungs, our hearts dropping the faster we were falling.
"Arresto Momentum!" Hermione shouted.
We all hovered over the ground for a moment before falling and grunting from the fall.
"Well done, Hermione," I said to her, standing up and looking down at my wet clothes.
We looked up and saw the cart driving away.
"Oh, no! You look like you again, Hermione," Ron told her.
"And you look like you again, Ron," I added.
"The Thief's Downfall," Griphook said. "It washes away all enchantments. It can be deadly."
"You don't say," Ron retorted. "Just out of interest, is there any other way out of here?"
"No," Griphook replied.
The other goblin looked at us in shock and anger. "What the devil are all of you doing down here?! Thieves! When you, Griphook, gave up the keys, you--"
"Imperio," Ron quickly said, making the goblin go back into his trance once again.
Suddenly, we heard a roar nearby.
"That doesn't sound good," Ron said.
"You don't say," I said, mocking him from before.
We followed Griphook and the other goblin and what we found nearly scared the shit out of me. It was a humongous and intimidating dragon.
"You've got to be kidding me," I said. "It's a dragon. There's a fucking dragon inside Gringotts."
"Bloody hell," Ron muttered. "That's a Ukrainian Ironbelly."
"I don't care what kind it is, Ron. There's a dragon inside Gringotts!"
Griphook handed him a bell-like object. When the dragon noticed us, he got up and began to roar. Griphook started to shake the object back and forth with his hand. Ron was mimicking his movements as we slowly followed him to the other side of the dragon to where the vault was located.
"The dragon's been trained to expect pain when it hears the noise!" Griphook explained to us.
"That's barbaric!" Hermione told him.
Once we got to the vault, Griphook used the other goblin's hand to unlock the door. The six of us headed inside and looked around the vault. Bellatrix had a bunch of objects everywhere, all of which were mostly nooks and crannies.
"Lumos," Harry and I said at the same time. Ron and Hermione did the same as well with their wands and we looked around the vault.
"Accio Horcrux," Hermione said, hoping that something would happen.
"You seriously thought that spell was going to work?" Ron questioned.
"That kind of magic won't work here," Griphook told us.
I felt the pull of the Horcrux inside me. "Harry, I can feel it," I informed my brother.
He nodded his head. "Me, too."
"Is it in here, guys?" Ron asked us.
Harry nodded his head again. "Yes."
We looked around the vault some more. All of a sudden, I looked up at a cup that was sitting by itself at the top of a shelf.
"There it is!" I shouted, pointing at the top of the shelf where the cup was at.
Hermione gasped from behind us. We turned around and saw that she had knocked something over. Then, Ron did the same.
"It's the Gemino Curse! Everything you touch will multiply!" Griphook said.
"Give me the sword!" Harry shouted to Hermione.
Hermione pulled out the sword and threw it to Harry. As the vault was filling up with goblets and other useless things, Harry was climbing up to the top, struggling and fighting with the objects that were multiplying rapidly.
"Stop moving!" I yelled.
Everyone stopped moving and so did the objects. It looked like a mountain from where I was standing. Once it got quiet, Harry popped out from the top. He had the cup and the sword in both hands.
"I got it!" he shouted, falling from the top and landing on top of me.
"Ow, Harry!" I yelled at him, pushing him off of me.
Griphook looked at us and snatched the cup from Harry's hand.
"We had a deal, Griphook!" Harry reminded him.
"The cup for the sword!" he shouted. Harry threw him the sword and Griphook threw the cup at Hermione. "I said that I'd get you in. I didn't say anything about getting you out." He gave us an evil smirk and unlocked the door, running out of the vault, along with the other goblin.
He left us in there, drowning in the objects. As the objects were flooding out of the vault, we managed to get up and went running after the goblins.
"Griphook!" I shouted.
"Thieves! Help! Thieves!" he shouted, running away from us.
The other goblin was still there, chuckling like an idiot.
"At least we still have him," Ron said, pointing at the other goblin.
Just as Ron said that, the dragon stood up and breathed fire at the goblin, burning him to a crisp.
"That's unfortunate," I said.
All of a sudden, guards were shooting spells at us. Harry and Ron got on one side of the hallway while Hermione and I got on the other side.
"We can't just stand here!" Hermione protested.
"You're the brilliant one!" Ron shouted at her.
"Well, I've got something, but it's mad," she said. She pointed at the railing and shouted, "Reducto!" Once the dust from the explosion was gone, Hermione did the craziest thing that I had seen her do in my entire life. She ran towards the edge and jumped on the dragon's back. "Well, come on, then!" she yelled at us.
When none of the boys went for the jump, I ran for it and jumped onto the dragon. Once the boys knew that this was our only shot at getting out of here, they jumped on the dragon as well.
"Relashio!" I shouted, pointing at the chains with my wand, letting the dragon fly up to the top.
Before we knew it the dragon crashed through the floor of the main entrance. Then, the dragon crashed through the ceiling. We were now at the top of Gringotts, looking down at Diagon Alley.
"Now what?" Ron asked us.
I turned around, aimed at the dragon's tail, and blurted out, "Reducto!" That made the dragon roar and fly off into the sky. I couldn't help but laugh.
"That was brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!" Ron shouted at us, laughing.
We rode on the dragon's back for a long time. By the time we were above the water, we thought of another idea.
"When do we jump?" Hermione asked us.
"Now!" Harry shouted, letting go, followed by the rest of us.
Before I knew it, I hit the water and went under. As I was underwater, I saw flashbacks and visions. Flashbacks of the Horcruxes being destroyed were coming back in my mind, then I saw Voldemort killing the guards at Gringotts. But the next vision was something that made the wheels in my brain turn. I saw Hogwarts, then Rowena Ravenclaw, then the eagle that represented Ravenclaw. Once I saw nothing else, I felt someone pull me up to the surface.
I gasped for air, then began to cough up the water that got inside my mouth. "Harry...did you see--"
"Yeah, I saw it, too," he told me, knowing what I was talking about.
"He knows, doesn't he?" I asked.
He nodded his head. "He knows that we're hunting Horcruxes."
