Chapter 3: the Preparation
Felice pondered for a while. She was in bed, and she woke up earlier than usual. 2:57 am, earliest you'll ever see her wake up. She checked the time again. Still 2:57. And again. Still 2:57. Oh, no wait- Sigh. Still 2:57. She sheepishly and reluctantly got out of bed, groaning all the while. Her back hurt, mostly from the dancing and such and the celebration from yesterday. She didn't regret it THAT much, though, because little Aura had fun.
Wait- Is Aura the name on her- What was it called? Oh! Her birth certificate. Well, Felice decided to check. Let's see... Oh yes! In the Multi-Media room, there was a giant wall, filled with the White family tree, updated almost every week (since there were births or celebrations or deaths every week, lol. Or drastic changes to how each family member looks. It depends. She walked to the Multi-Media room, looking around- Oh, there it is! The White family tree, so giant it spread through the entire 48 feet tall wall of the room. Now, where was that piece of the wall that said Felice's mom's name? Hm... Oh! There. Almost right in the center of the lower left branch.
"Mom... Dad... To me... Aunt Aurora... Ah, there!" She mumbled to herself as she worked. Aura's name had just been added a few hours ago, by the looks of it. She was surprised to see she was listed as, "Abigail "Aura" White," though she guessed she shouldn't be surprised. They probably already named Aura, and then wanted to tell everyone but Felice suggested another name, so they added the nickname to the tree. "I don't understand why I'm so obsessed with this," She suddenly mumbled out loud. Is it because of what's going on with me? Do I really think they would do that to her if she didn't end up with a world? Felice shook her head. No, no. Aunt Aurora would never do that. She sighed.
"Felice?" She jumped up in surprise. She turned around, expecting to see her mom or something, but it ended up being Aunt Aurora. She curiously walked beside Felice, eyeing the tree with curiosity. Suddenly she smiled. "Oh, 'Elise. Are you looking for my darling's name? There she is." She pointed to Aura's name, smiling at the picture. Felice awkwardly stood there. "Y-yeah, I was. I was curious about her name... Her real name's Abigail?" Aunt Aurora nodded, not looking at Felice, still smiling at the picture. "It can be shortened to Abby, or you could just call her Aura." She laughed. "But the main reason why her first name isn't Aura is because of my name. Aurora. Aura is my nickname, too." OMG! How did Felice not know that??? It's so obvious! Aur-ora!
"Well, I guessed I'd better go. It's almost Aura's feeding time." Aunt Aurora smiled one last time at the picture of Aura, before heading up, leaving Felice there.
...
Felice was upstairs, packing in her room, when her mom walked in. "You asked to see me?" She asked.
Felice's mom was no short of GORGEOUS. She looked like an ice queen, just beautiful-er. Is that even a word? She always wore a sparkling blue dress that dragged on the ground, the same ice blue that was used for her eyeshadow. Her pale skin almost reflected light, and she had an ice tiara decorated with snowflakes. Even her eyes were ice-cold, sharpest blue you could find. It reflected her true personality; Even if she was kind to all of her subjects in Salt, she treated her own daughter the opposite of her. Even though she was beautiful, she treated Felice... Very ugly-ish. Felice hated it, how she could be so decieving.
Felice found those ice-cold eyes almost melting, as her mom softly gazed up on her. "What are you doing?" She asked Felice. She went back to packing. "Just packing. You said we're going on a trip to Salt, right? You can't expect me to wear something freezing. Maybe Winter can do it, but I can't." Her mom snorted. Or was that a laugh?
"Why are we going to Salt anyways?" Felice asked. "I mean, it makes sense for you to go to Salt for whatever, but me? It just doesn't make sense." Felice's mom barked a laugh, though it sounded fake. "Can't a mother and daughter go on an outing without questions?" Felice's face burned with embarrassment. "Well-"
Her mom waved it off. "Oh, no. Don't worry. It was a joke." It didn't feel like one, that's for sure. "The grand Salt Elders have requested our presence. Here, you can take a look." A crumpled yellow-brown scroll came out of nowhere. Felice opened it up. By order of the Salt, we request the presence of Amphitrite Salacia White and her daughter, Felice Eva White, for the ceremony of Escrest, of Luk. "They used too much of "of" in the last sentence." Felice said blandly. "Let me see that!" Her mom snatched the scroll back. She scowled. "The ceremonies of Escrest have different types. This ceremonies is type Luk."
"...That doesn't make any sense." Felice mumbled. Her mom pretended she didn't hear her. Felice's heart stung. "Anyways, why do they want me to go there?" She asked, to cover up the awkwardness. Her mom cleared her throat. "The Salt Elders have been curious about you a while, my dear. Ever since you gave up the title of the "Hero" of Bronze, they couldn't help but wonder why. Is it because of your relationship with your uncle? Or something else entirely? Oh," She added blandly, "and they want to do a Salt Reading on you." She checked her nails.
Felice gaped. Salt reading? Isn't that something for potential? She shook her head. "Do you REALLY believe it works? I mean, the last time we went, when I was was 4, they told me I had great potential. Meanwhile, my world sucks. Oh, I forgot, I didn't get one!" Her mother shook her head. "Do you have no respect for the Salt Elders?" Felice opened her mouth.
"Fine." Her mom replied, cross. "Fine. If you want to disrespect their authority, fine by me. Insolent child." She muttered. "But your still going to the reading. Don't argue with me." She swept her train behind her and marched out of the attic.
Felice finally closed her mouth. She sighed. "What does a girl have to do to get her parents to like her?"
