Training Day

Chapter 2: Training Day

I awoke the next morning confused and slightly freaked out, and for once it wasn't because of a dream.

Last night was Friday, the night of the fated Martin party. Allison and Scott had ended up coming together and they looked so adorable. Stiles had come as well but it seemed like he didn't even notice me, or anyone for that matter.

But that wasn't even the weird part.

About an hour or so into the party Scott randomly tore through the house like a mad man and ditched Allison on the dance floor, driving off into the night. About 2.5 seconds after that, Stiles in all his spastic glory, shot through the house, jumped into his Jeep and took off after him. All the while I sat on the stairs inside, staring after them in confusion.

To top off the crazy-ass things that happened, Allison got a ride home with none other than Mr. Private Property, Derek Hale. Why she would trust him? I have no damn clue.

The only thing I did know was that something weird was going on with my two best friends and I needed to figure out what.

All of a sudden Scott was good at lacrosse? Not just good but amazing?!

I also know for a fact that he was majorly excited about his date with Allison, so why would he run from her at the party?

And then there was Stiles. He wasn't acting as weird as Scott, but there was obviously still something wrong. He seemed completely distracted at the party and was watching Scott all night. As much as it pained me to say, whenever he actually came to these parties he would watch Lydia, even though he was hanging out with me. And he didn't look at Lydia once last night and didn't even say hi to me when he got there. It was weird.

I sighed and sat up in bed, running a hand through my hair. Looking to the side I noticed that it was 11:26 in the morning, 30 minutes before I needed to be at Danny's.

"Oh, crap," I muttered. Completely forgetting about my strange friends, I slid out of bed, pushing the comforter to the side. I quickly grabbed my phone and sent a text to my favorite goalie.

To Dannyboy: Sorry D, overslept. I'll be a little late <3

I set it back down as I pressed send, not waiting for a reply as I walked quickly to my bathroom. Shutting the door, I took off my pajamas and turned on the shower water, hopping in. Washing my hair I softly sang Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye, wishing I had brought my speaker in for music. About 15 minutes later, I hopped out of the shower wrapped up in a fluffy towel.

Making my way to the closet, I walked to where I kept my comfy clothes. Grabbing a pair of yoga pants, a plain black tank top, and a sports bra, I snagged a pair of underwear from my drawer and made my way back to my bed, throwing them down.

I sat leisurely on the bed, picking up my phone to see if I'd gotten any messages.

Dannyboy: It's cool Rae, that just means you get to pick up coffee. xoxo

Cheeky bastard. I thought to myself as I laughed, sending back a reply.

To Dannyboy: Alright, I guess that's fair. See you soon D <3

Batman: Hey Rae Rae, sorry for running out last night, Scott wasn't feelin so good

I furrowed my brow at that. It seemed like more than not feeling well, but for now, I'd let it go. I had more pressing matters to worry about right now.

To Batman: You're fine Stilinski, tell Scott I hope he feels better

Scotty the Pup: Rae I messed up I need your help!

I laughed lightly to myself, knowing he was probably talking about Allison.

To Scotty the Pup: You shall get my help when I finish training Scotty.

Seeing as that was the last text I'd gotten, I set my phone back on the bedside table and dried myself of the little water that was left. I also semi-dried my hair with the towel, throwing it down on the floor until later. I slid on my work-out clothes and grabbed my armband for my phone out of my bedside table and put it on. Glancing at the clock, it read 11:55.

Quickly grabbing socks and tennis shoes, I threw them on and grabbed my headphones, plugging them into my phone and tossed both next to me.

I jogged to the bathroom, damp hair slapping against my back. Picking up my brush, I ran it through my hair until I deemed it worthy and then threw it in a high ponytail before dashing back to my bed. Quickly picking up my phone I put it in its rightful spot, throwing my headphones over my neck, and grabbed a light jacket and my bag, pulling out the car keys. Rushing down the stairs I called out a bye to my mother, who already knew where I was going, and headed out the door.

"Hey, babe," I called as I walked through the door, a coffee holder in one hand. I'd been coming over at least once a week for years, so eventually, Danny's folks just gave me my own key. I also had a key to Stiles' and Scott's houses that Stiles had given to me.

Danny was stood in the middle of the living room in gym shorts, smiling at me, but ultimately looking straight at the coffee. I chuckled as I walked over to him, handing over his coffee and discarding the carrier in the trash.

"You ready for training?" He asked me, looking down at my petite frame.

"Hell yeah, aren't I always?" I asked rhetorically, a big smile on my face as I took a drink. For years now, on most Saturdays and Wednesdays, Danny and I would spar and exercise. At first, it was just having fun, but now it was wanting to stay in shape and be ready for a fight. And hell, it was still fun, especially when I knocked Danny on his ass.

"Alright, let's go then." I quickly followed him back out the front door and to my car where I climbed into the driver's side and left once again.

For the third time in an hour, I climbed out of my car - but this time in the middle of the Beacon Hills Preserve. There was a clearing out here that we used for sparing and exercise and a few trails for free running. Taking off my tank top, I threw it in the backseat, leaving me in my sports bra.

Knowing the routine, I walked to the opening of the main trail quietly, looking over to Danny.

"Ready to get your ass kicked?" I asked quizzically, raising an eyebrow. Danny just chuckled and looked over at me.

"In your dreams shorty." I scowled but otherwise stayed silent, looking back in front of me. Stretching my legs for a second, I soon took off in a jog through the woods, working my muscles. Once my blood was pumping, I jumped and grabbed a tree branch, lifting up slightly while swinging forward and jumping off into a somersault. I continued my run, ducking down, jumping and doing the few flips I knew I could land. After about 20 minutes I ended up back in the clearing, Danny trailing behind me.

"That was good Rae. You landed that front flip off the rocks halfway through. That's the first time." Danny praised. I was actually quite surprised with myself as well, the first time I attempted that I broke my wrist when I landed wrong.

"Thanks, Danny. I'm really glad I can do this with you." I told him, meaning it sincerely. Lydia didn't know about this. I told my sister almost everything but if she knew I'd been training like this for years, she'd rip my hair out. My mom knew, but that was only because of said broken wrist.

I told Lydia I fell out of a tree.

"Of course, I enjoy it. Whenever I do training with Jackson he's so hardcore. The guy's my best friend, but he's gotta calm down sometimes." Danny laughed a little, taking a drink of the water he'd brought with before setting in back down with his coffee. "Plus, I like knowing that you can fight. Makes me worry less."

Danny was a great friend. He'd been there for me since I was a little girl. He was like the older brother I never had. Laughing lightly, I stepped in front of him, stretching my body and recalling past fights. "Well come on, let's see how much you've got to worry about." I chuckled, bouncing on the balls of my feet as I wiped the sweat from my brow.

"Bring it on pixie." He taunted as he gestured for me to come on. Immediately, I got in a defensive position as he swung towards me, ducking down and swinging my leg out to trip him. Danny jumped over my foot but didn't see as I came back up and kicked him straight in the stomach, causing him to stagger back slightly.

Danny and I both chuckled but kept our stances firm as we circled each other. "Come on Danny boy, I know you can do better than that." I teased lowly with a crooked smile on my face.

Danny crept forward, his eyes on mine the whole time before the strike. His right hand shot out and as I blocked his punch I wasn't quick enough to block his left leg going into my side. Groaning, I backed down for a moment.

"There he is." I smiled roguishly, rubbing my hands together. That went on for another twenty minutes before I felt like we were being watched. And I soon realized I was right.

"This is private property. You need to leave." Said a man from behind me, and if I had one guess, I would know it was Derek Hale. Turning around slowly, an annoyed expression crossed my face as I wiped the sweat from my brow. I could tell he was slightly surprised to see it was me, but otherwise kept his face passive.

"Look, buddy. I get that you have property here but you don't own the entire preserve. We've been coming out here for years, we even made our own trails for training, so you don't just get to come back after all these years and tell us to leave." I practically growled at him. This guy was weird and I didn't understand why he was hanging around his old house when it most likely only brought him sorrow.

"This is part of my property and I'm telling you to leave." He said calmly, but I could see the tick in his clenched jawline and the slight balling of his hands.

"No, actually it's not. When we first found this place I talked to the Sheriff and made sure this specifically wasn't private property. He told us it was fine to make trails as long as we kept to this piece of land. So maybe you should go check your property lines, mister." I stated smugly, using his own taunt from before against him.

Derek Hale, in all his glory, simply shot me a glare, obviously not used to being wrong, and turned to storm off. With a smug smile on my face, I turned to look at Danny who was just staring after Derek longingly. I busted up laughing at his expression and my outburst dropped him back into reality as he turned to me, blushing.

"You're a terrible person." He whispered, shaking his head, but I saw the tiny smile on his face.

"No, I'm not. You'd laugh at me for the same thing Mahealani." I announced and watched him shrug before patting him on the shoulder. "Don't worry Danny, you'll get the guy some time."

"Yeah, yeah." He shrugged me off, gesturing to join him for planks and such. We continued our training for another hour or so before we decided to head back home for the night, ready for popcorn and bad movies.

So this is kind of just a filler chapter but I wanted to show part of her friendship with Danny and the fact that she actually can take care of herself. And as you can see, Rae doesn't take too kindly to Derek right now. See you next chapter. xoxo
