Chapter 4: Temple of Fire

(2266 words

(y/n)'s POV

We got into the Temple of Fire and, the hall had fire on the floor.

"Ugh... so hot... Oh, no! There are flames everywhere! You better not touch them... Don't burn yourself!" Ciela was right on cue as usual as she pointed out the obvious. Getting into the main lobby of the temple there was a spiraling line of flames that went off in circles. Looking to my left there was a line of flames that blocked the way to the left. Sighing gently we went the other way and jumped over the little gaps in the floor, and got to a picture on the wall.

Looking at it, it was for a path in the temple. It was probably there to help us avoid whatever traps that were in that area. Marking it on the map we kept moving. Going to the south side of the room, we entered what was a little battle area. The door behind us closed and we were kept in the area until we either fought them all off or died.

Fighting off the keese, the door opened again and the fire blocking a chest went out. Opening the chest we got a key. Back to the room with the sign for the safe path, we opened the door and used the path we made on the map to get through to the end of the little room. Standing in the middle of four crystal orb, I moved to the edge of the wall, while Link performed a spin attack.

Hitting the orbs at once, the door that was in the lobby opened. Running back through  the safe path and into the door we went up the stairs. Seeing the red blocks that were coming out of the floor in front of us, we ran to the east side and dodged a chuchu that showed up. Turning a couple of corners, we hit the crystal switch and the red blocks went into the floor, letting us walk over them. Running around the corners we could get to the other side of the room.

Getting to another battle room we watched as this green goo came out of the  floor and tried to jump at us. One of them attached itself to my leg. Feeling my leg get heavier I  shook like crazy to get it off of me, letting Link hit it with his sword. Finishing off the rest of the enemies, a big chest appeared.

Opening the chest, we got  a boomerang. Using the boomerang I threw it and hit a switch. Catching it as it came back. Turning around we saw the fire that was blocking the next area go out. Walking through it I held the boomerang in my hand. Running around a few corners and up a couple stairs, I handed the boomerang to Link.

He threw it so it hit a couple switches letting us go down to the stairs. Finding a gossip stone I hit it only for it to tell us there wasn't any chests left on the floor we were on. Link had thrown the boomerang around the corner and hit a switch. The blue blocks went into the floor and we were able to get through.

Going to the room that was next a couple flaming skulls showed up. Using the boomerang I stunned them and Link hit them with the sword. The doors lowered and we could go up the stairs. But before I did that, I went back to the previous room and threw the boomerang to hit a switch, letting the fire go out.

Following Link up the stairs, I looked at him as we got to the next area. He was determined to find his friend. Throwing the boomerang again I hit some Fire Keese and we ran around the spiraling flames. Jumping over some gaps we got to the other side. Why did it have to be so hot in this temple? I really need to go for a swim after this. Right after I have 10 gallons of coffee. Hitting the third keese a chest appeared and upon opening it, we found a red rupee. Pulling a lever it opened the door on the other side we were just at.

Getting to the door we went through it and found another rat with a key on him. After we got the key we ran back to where we were and opened the door, going up the stairs to the 3rd floor. Avoiding more green goo that was jumping around I blew out a couple candles. The flame in the hallway went out and we could get through. Before we did that, we went towards the south end of the room and found another picture. Marking the numbers on our map for that room, we continued north.

Standing in the middle of the room we were able to hit all of the switches in their sequenced order. Dropping a key we got it with the boomerang. Smiling a little we ran to the south end of the room we were in previously, and went to the next area. Running by a stand that was blocking a staircase, with an eye and a giant key hole in the top of it, Ciela spoke up.

"What do you think that is?" she asked as she tilted her head. Watching Link shrug I looked at them both. We continued to the west side of the room we were into yet another battle room. Wonderful. Defeating those enemies and staying away from the fireballs that the Torch shot at us, the door opened up and gave us another puzzle.

Lighting all the torches we could get to the last room. Running to the right we hit an orb switch with the boomerang. This closed the trap door and let us get the Boss Key. Running to the same staircase as earlier, we put it into the stand and went up to the boss room.

Getting into the little room that stands between the boss battle and the rest of the temple I felt my heart start to pound. Fuck. This might be the only time my heart has pounded before a boss battle. Looking over to Link as he was reading the two slates in the north end of the room, i bit my lip. He was calm and collected. I knew he had the Triforce of Courage. But damn, kid. Give me some of that courage.

He looked at me as he stood up and smiled. Being taken aback by how much that had calmed me down. Looking at him we ran up the stairs. Getting to the room with the boss battle I bit my lip. As soon as the boss saw us, he spun in a circle where he stood, and split into three smaller versions of himself.

Glancing to Link I sighed gently. Putting  my hair up I looked at the boss. It was hotter than hell in here. Just like a pirate you know. Stopping as I tried to get the thought out of my head. Why would I think that? I hardly know, Linebeck!

Hearing my name being called, I snapped out of it as Link jumped in front of me and deflected a fireball from the boss. Looking at the boy in green I panted heavily. He looked at me and gave me a nod while I grabbed the boomerang. Using the amount of horns on the boss I hit one at a time making them all fuse to the original form.

Link ran over and started slashing away, moving back when they split again. We repeated this process until we he died. We watched as Blaaz turned into the Sand of Time that we needed for the hourglass. It was something that Oshus told us that we needed. Getting that, we could get to the Temple of the Ocean King without losing any life while there was time in the hourglass.

The middle of the floor started to glow with the symbol of the Goddess of power. We watched as a purple glowing orb floated around before it went higher into the air. Watching as several beams of light started to come out of it, I glanced to Link. Looking back at the orb, it turned into a red fairy. I recognized this fairy as Leaf. The Spirit of Power. Another spirit guide we would have during our adventure.

She floated down to us. "I am Leaf. Spirit of Power. I serve the Ocean King. I owe you thanks for defeating the evil wizard. You broke the seal, so now I'm free!"

Ciela came back  with the obvious remarks. "Look, guys! It's the Spirit of Power, Leaf. This must all be what Astrid was talking about. Please! Help us, we need your strength."

"I was locked away with the Ocean King years ago. But now I can't feel the Ocean King's presence. I wonder what happened to him? If I come with you, I can find out. If you need it, I'll gladly lend  a hand!"

She flew around us and Link giggled gently. With her in our group we could go back to Linebeck. Hmmm. I wonder how he's doing. Probably bored out of his mind. Once Link picked up the Heart Container, we got into the blue fire that was on the floor, letting us go back to the entrance of the temple.

At this point the volcano had stopped erupting. Since we had beaten the temple. Running along the platform we were on, we found a chest with 20 rupees in it. Hopping down the couple of platforms we went to Astrid's house.

"Hey, kids! You were able to defeat all of the monsters? Well, Astrid is waiting!" Linebeck said as he saw us. I leaned against the doorframe as I listened to them talk.

"Well  done! You defeated the power of the darkness. Thus you've broken the seal on the spirit that you need to move forward. Ultimately, you'll need the three spirits, Power, Courage, and Wisdom. When you have all three, you will possess the power to find the Ghost Ship. Now two spirits remain, but they're veiled to me at the moment. I see... Another clue for you in the Temple of the Ocean King on Mercay Island. To further your efforts, I give you this. May it help you in battle." I watched as Link turned around with what she gave him.

He held a power gem. It was to help upgrade the three spirits. Each one has their own designated Spirit Gem. "You actually did it! We're getting closer to getting rich! Hoo Haw, I'm excited!" Linebeck went back to the ship. We followed him not long after. Walking to the ship as I watched the two head in front of me I sighed a little. Why was I having those thoughts about everything already? I've known Linebeck, maybe two days. This is absurd!

Getting to the temple I put my hands together, the other three looked at me. "In celebration of gaining the newest member of our little group, and getting through the first temple. I'll make us a feast. So relax, swim, take off your shoes. Then we can stuff our faces." They cheered and  even though Linebeck tried to hide it, he smiled too.

Going to a small fishing hole I started to catch fish and other sea creatures we could eat. I wasn't big on seafood but this wasn't half bad. While everything was roasting on the fire, I decided to go for a dip. Floating around I jumped a bit when I heard a voice.

"You don't strike me as the swimming type" Looking up I saw Linebeck. Humming as I swam to the edge of the pool, I climbed out and stood next to him. I watched as his eyes trailed up and down my body. Stepping closer to him I hooked my finger under his chin and picked his head up.

"I swim quite well. My cooking matches it. I wish I had more to make for you two, but since this is a volcanic island it will have to wait. When we get back to Mercay and Link goes through the Temple of the Ocean King again, I'll cook again. For every temple he beats I'll probably cook for everyone." Moving my hand to his neck scarf that he wore, I flattened it out against his chest. His watched me do that as I looked up at him.

"You can go back to the ship, I'll be there in a second. Or you could help me carry the food back." I said. He looked at me and smirked for a moment. "Then what are we waiting  for? I'm starving! You two took forever to get through that temple"

Giggling gently I gave him a tray of food to carry. Taking an identical tray, we went back to the ship. Going down the stairs to the storage area below the deck we got ready to eat. Once we ate, we were on our way back to Mercay island to get the next temple completed.

During the writing of this chapter, I remembered that this is targeted for an adult audience. 18-25 I believe. With that, there will be adult language, alcoholic substances, and mature themes. Not now, but in the chapters to come, it just depends  on how the story progresses. I want there to be at least one temple per chapter or so.
