Chapter 16: Isle of Frost
(4177 words)
(y/n)'s POV
Looking at them as they didn't know where to go, I sat up and grabbed the slate from Link. Putting in the symbol to jump to the eastern side of the Goron Island, we moved over there in a cyclone.
Laying down again I pointed towards the Isle of Frost. "We need the next Pure Metal, go to that island and see what's there" I said. Nodding they set sail for it, before i heard Linebeck start to talk.
"Hey! What's the deal with all this ice? We can't dock! But, I'm having one of my brilliant ideas, chart a line around the island and we'll obliterate it ourselves!"
Sitting up and leaning against the cabin of the ship, I watched as Link shot at the ice. Getting the bow and arrow and staying where I was, I shot whatever enemies came to try and stop us. Circling the island and getting rid of all the ice, we were able to dock. Shivering as it was rather cold, I got off the floor of the ship.
Looking at the other two I sighed gently. "The second pure metal should be here, come on." I said before I felt something grab my hand. Turning around I saw Link and Linebeck. "Take a look at the island. I was wondering if it would be like walking on a giant ice chunk, but it looks... Real frosty."
Standing next to Linebeck as I looked at the island I hummed. "Frozen as my heart" I said as I heard Linebeck mutter something. Link was too far away so he didn't hear it. "I'll just have to thaw it out with love, my treasure" Trying not to smile I looked at him. He chuckled and made his way to the cabin.
He looked back at us and smiled a little. "I'll be here if you guys need anything, try not to fall on the ice" he said. Nodding we were on our way. The inhabitants of this island, looked kinda like Eskimos. Except they wore big penguin like outfits with antlers. It was something rather strange. Watching walk by I smiled. "Look at how they waddle around" I said as I tried not to be so loud. Link looked at the one that walked by us and smiled gently.
Walking to the northeast of the isle we got into the chief's house. The ones that we had saw on the way up here, were wearing an icy blue color. The chief was wearing more of a Anemone Purple. He sported a long beard.
"You! I'm the island chief of the, Anouki. You got a name, green guy?" he asked. Looking at my breath as it appeared in front of me, I stood closer to the fire that was in the middle of the room. "What'd ya say?! You name is Link-abou? Well, Link-abou, my tribe's been having this terrible time lately." Nodding as we looked at him he hummed. "You wanted to know about the Azurine right?"
Nodding yet again we looked at him. Looking between the two of us he paused. "You scratch my fur, I scratch yours?" he asked as we rose a brow. Sighing we agreed. "This is a bit of a long story, so make yourselves comfortable." Sitting on the floor we listened to him.
"We Anouki have one enemy on this island, the're the Yook. There was a lot of bad blood between our ancestors. So 100 years ago, we made an agreement. We lived in the west, they the east on the Great Ice Field. That was the deal, but some tricky Yook have snuck their way over here. He took one of my villagers!" he said as he started to waddle a little in place.
"He's pretended to be him and live in his place... all comfortable-like. Now we get to the part where I need something from ya. Find the yook that's impersonating the villager and kick him out." Standing up from the floor we nodded.
"Yook are liars. Every one of them. This one'll lie to you so don't be gullible! Maybe if ya find him, I'll tell you where the Azurine is hiding." Getting out side next to the stairs, I heard Ciela. "What was that crazy Island Chief blabbering about? I get this crazy feeling that he's not telling us the truth."
Getting to the northern side where the Anouki Estates were at, we read the tablet to the middle house of the bottom row. "Kumu's House" Writing it down on the map, we made our way to the one on the right of it. "Fofo's house" Writing that down we went to the other side, getting that ones name. "Dobo's House".
Heading to the northern row we looked at what that tablet. "Gumo's house" Reading the top middle house's name. "Aroo's house". Then the last one on the top right, "Mazo's house." Looking at the map as all of them were written down. We made our way inside one of them. Heading inside Fofo's house we found him inside.
Finding him inside, he wore an Icy Blue outfit. "Yeah, my name's Fofo, you heard that right. I'm sure you know this, but the Yook do nothing but lie. Gumo never lies."
Walking to the house in the bottom middle, we talked to Kumu. "Yea. the Yook you're looking for is a liar, no doubt about it. I'd say either Mazo or Aroo are lying to you. Thought you'd want to know!"
Writing it down, we made our way to the bottom left house. Waking into Dobo's house we talked to him. "They call me Dobo. You're looking for the Yook that's impersonating one of us, right? There's one easy way to tell who it is, the Yook are liars. Mazo's honest, that guy never lies." Jotting it down, we made our way to see Gumo.
Entering the house on the right of the top row, we talked to Mazo. "I don't care if you believe me, but only me and Dobo tell the truth." looking at Link who only shrugged. I wrote it down. Leaving the house we went into Aroo's house. "Between me and you, Kumu is lying! I'll leave it at that." Raising a brow I wrote it down. Stepping out of the house we went to he last house, Gumo's.
Going into the house, we talked to the last Anouki. "Either Aroo or Fofo has gotta be lying to you." Leaving the house we went back to Aroo's house. Getting inside we looked at him. "What's with that funny look in your eye? It's making me nervous. You don't think that I'm the Yook, do ya? Are you saying that I'm the prime suspect?!"
Looking at Link, I saw him nod. "Get back! I say get back! I'm innocent! If you come at me, I swear I'll have to protect myself! Don't come any closer! Think about what you're doing! Don't be stupid! All you have to say is that you made a mistake!"
Link had shook his head and grabbed his arm. "Hey! How'd you figure it out? I thought I had an amazing costume." Ciela had looked confused. "You're a Yook? You looked so innocent. You looked just like Aroo. Don't say anything stupid and try to fight, just turn yourself in!"
"BE QUIET! If you yell anymore with that squeaky voice... It drives me wild." He had changed back into a Yook. Drawing my dagger as Link drew his sword we looked at the creature. "EEEK! It's some kind of monster!"
"I'm gonna eat you!" Ciela moved away and closer to the door. "No! I'm not tasty! I'll taste awful! EEEEK! I'm yellow, but I don't taste anything like a delicious fruit!"
He looked at Link. "Of course not.... I could try and make a run for it. But I guess I might as well give in, since I got caught. As a show of good faith, I'll show you something good." Watching as he drew in a breath, he blew us back outside.
"Ugh...oof....ouch. What happened?! That was crazy, wasn't it? We went through all the trouble of finding that Yook and he just blew us away! But.. If we don't do anything, he'll just get away. It's not fair.... Let's go talk to the Island Chief and tell him what happened!"
Getting off the cold ground, I stood up and followed them back to the Chief's house. Sneezing once on the way there. Once inside I slid right to the fire and stood next to it. "Hey! I heard the story!"
"What?! Already?!"
"Yeah. you did it! You scared the Yook right our of our village! Now the rest of the people can sip on their savory stew in peace. Don't you wanna get revenge on the Yook?"
"Hmmm... YEAH! Of course we wanna get revenge!"
"No one can resist a little revenge! I'm gonna open up the cave to the Great Ice Field in the east. the Yook are over there, go get yourself all the revenge you can! That Azurine should be in the Temple of Ice."
Going to that side of the temple, we made our way to the cave. Running down the hall, we found a tablet. "DO NOT ERASE! The Yook have one simple weakness. The Yook breathe really deeply... Inhale... mouth... a... throw..."
Tilting my head at the tablet I hummed. "Maybe it wants us to throw bombs into their mouths?" I asked as Link looked at me.
"That must be it! Just like the boss from the last temple!" Ciela had clapped her hands a little. Smiling gently, we made our way to the Great Ice Field. Finding the Yook on the other side of the cave, we waited for them to breathe in and we threw a bomb. Hitting them with the sword once they were stunned. We repeated this process until they were defeated.
The spikes of ice that were keeping us from the Temple of Ice had melted and we could reach the entrance of the temple. Walking inside, I shivered a little as we entered. "This must be the Temple of Ice. There's a blizzard howling outside, but it's actually pretty warm inside. At least we'll get out of the cold in here huh?"
Rubbing my arms as I was still pretty chilled, I watched as Link opened the map. Hitting the red switch we were able to get over the red blocks in the floor. Throwing the boomerang at the red switch, the blue ones lowered. Walking around the corners we had to cross a small bridge that had blades moving across it.
Avoiding the blades we could hit the switch that lowered the door. Sending a bomchu out while we were on the bridge, this lowered the red blocks and let us reach the stairs. Going up to the second floor we had to keep going up to the next floor since we couldn't do anything in this room.
There was a bridge of ice in front of us as we got up the stairs. Walking across it we stood on the peg and shot an arrow at the switch. This melted the ice spikes that were blocking the stairs. Opening a nearby chest, we got a Big Green Rupee. Getting across the gap in the floor we were able to reach the southern wall. Stepping over the gap there we went to read the tablet in the corner.
"Pull the four levers to open your way. Draw a line due north. Pull that lever in that location, last." Furrowing my brows I did that as Link read it. Humming for a moment I looked at him. "Where are the other three tablets?" I asked as we left the small hallway. He had shrugged while we walked around.
Getting to the Southwest corner, we had jumped the gaps and read the tablet that was there. It told us to pull the lever on the far left. first. Running around to the corner that was north of this one, we read the tablet that was there. It had told us to pull the one in front of a tongue, second. Finding the one that had a giant tongue above it, I went to the far left lever and pulled that. Link pulled the one under the tongue.
I pulled the one to the right, then link pulled the last one. Hearing a door open we went towards it. Going up the stairs that we could get to now, we had slid around on some ice. Dodging the enemy that was there, we looked around. Running on the slippery bridges we shot any Ice Keese and Ice Bubbles we could find.
Noticing a blue switch a level down from us I looked at Link. "Look at that" I said as he came over, sliding into me. "Throw a bomb at it" I said, he nodded and did as he was told. Jumping down from the bridges that were covered in ice, we ran back to the stairs that got us up there. Running down the area that was blocked by the blue blocks we found a tablet.
"Stand on the blue tile, and follow the numbers below. 2134." Seeing that they were in certain corners, I made a small square and put each number in their corner. Starting from the top right, to top left, bottom left and the last being the bottom right.
Throwing the boomerang and hitting them in order, we saw a small key land on a pillar not far from us. Grabbing it with the boomerang we could go to the next floor. Heading down the stairs to the second floor. This put us right into a trap. Battling the white and brown Yook that had appeared, we could get the Big Chest and the spikes that were made of ice melted as the door lowered.
Getting the grappling hook we were able to grab onto the wooden pegs and pull ourselves over gaps. Leaving for the next room, we found more of those statues with the tongues. Pulling the middle one's tongue to make it's eyes glow red, we saw the ice melt that was blocking out way to the south.
Hitting a switch we opened a door that would take us back to the entrance. Stepping through the door and pulling the tongues from the entrance, we could get to the third floor as the ice blocking the stairs melted.
Running back over we headed down stairs. Breaking the wall that we could we stepped inside and hit the switch allowing a chest to appear. Hitting the chest with the hook we were able to get across. Smiling a little, I stepped on the switch, while Link opened the chest. The bridge to let us get back and forth over the gap without the chest appeared. Link showed me a Big Red Rupee. Getting to the southeastern corner we could bomb the wall there. Doing that we walked through the wall.
Going to the east we made a tight rope from the hook. Walking over we defeated the Stag Beetles that were there. Hooking the tongue statue, I pulled it back as far is it would go and we made a run for the stairs that were't blocked. Getting over them we panted gently. "After this temple, I don't want to see anymore ice."
Link nodded in agreement. Pushing a block, we got a switch that gave us a bridge. Hitting a lever we got a treasure chest, Link ran over to the chest and got a small key. Throwing it at me, I opened the door and got a wisdom chem. hitting the switch with a boomerang the blue blocks came out of the floor.
Going back by the stairs, we used a tight rope to get to the other side and crossed to the other side by standing on a tight rope towards the west side. Throwing the boomerang we hit the switches in a loop. Hitting the eye switch we needed. This melted the ice we needed to get to the wall that we had blown up earlier. Pulling the tongue we made our way to the open door that had a timer on it.
Using the stairs to get to the next floor I sighed gently. Can't it be over already, I'm freezing! Shivering a little, we got around the corner and headed towards the north end of the room. Grabbing onto a torch with the hook we crossed a gap. Stepping into a battle room we had to defeat a yook. Doing that the ice melted and the door opened.
Getting across with a couple tight ropes and avoiding the blade trap that was in the way, we got to the north end of the room. Using the boomerang on the Ice Keese and Ice Bubbles. To the Northwest corner we made a line with the hook. Pushing back on the rope we were able to jump the gap. Defeating the Ice bubble that was there we sighed. Getting to the end of that platform link did a spin attack on some switches and gave us the chest for the Boss Key. Going all the way around to the torches we used to get over to this side, we used the one on the other side to get over. Bypassing the chest for now, we went and got to the middle of the room.
Latching onto some torches and launching ourselves to a higher platform, we grabbed a couple torches to get us to the northern part of this section. Jumping down after hitting an eye switch and pushing a button to get a bridge, we could run through the door that was in the corner. Getting into the next section of the room, we looked around for a moment.
Making a tight rope on two pegs as we stood on a blue tile, we shot our arrows at the eyes by using the tight rope. Getting a chest we got a small key. Leaving for the last section we were able to get to the locked door and use the key. This gave us another battle area where the floor was ice and we had to deal with a Yook.
Using the same method we've been we killed that one and could get the Boss Key. Leaving once the path was clear we went all the way down to the last floor and put the Boss Key in the stand. Going into the Boss Arena we were met with Gleeok, the two headed dragon.
As they shot fireballs at us, we made lines in the four pegs with the hook for them to hit each other with their attacks. After a couple hits on each head, they would go under the water and try to splash us. Standing on the pegs we were able to stay out of the water while, avoiding the chunks of ice that fell from the ceiling.
With a few more hits, their armor was off their face. Looking at it as it opened it's mouth, I grabbed the hook and lassoed it's tongue. Wrapping the rope around the pole it slammed its jaw into the platform we were on and let Link whack it with his sword. Repeating this process with the other head, then standing on the peg to avoid the tidal wave that came. Pulling them towards us with the hook we were able to turn it into the Sand of Hours.
Taking out his phantom hourglass we could get two minutes added to it for the Temple of the Ocean King. Picking up the heart container, we went to the last room to find the Azurine. On the outside of the temple we found an Anouki. He walked over and talked to us.
"I'm Aroo! No seriously, I'm the real one! Here's the story, there I was, sipping my stew. Then a crazed Yook bagged me! Maybe it was when you exposed the Yook that was pretending to be me, but the barrier thing that was keeping me locked up, dropped and I escaped!"
Getting on the peg that was next to him we were able to scale up the side of the hill. Running around to the Southeastern side of the cliff we were on and following that, we found a chest. hopping down and opening it up, we got a power gem.
Leaving for the ship i had yawned. Linebeck turned to look at me when I had gotten to the Control Room. Tilting his head he walked over to me. "What happened to you? You're really pale." he said as his voice was lower than normal. Looking over to him I shrugged. "Just really cold" I said as he nodded and looked at me.
He nodded gently walking over to me he took off his jacket and slipped it over my shoulders. Blushing gently as I looked at him he smiled before he hugged me. "Lay down and warm up for a bit." Link came down the stairs as he saw us and looked at Linebeck. Ciela looked like she wanted to say something but decided against it.
Linebeck got the course he needed from Link and they were on the way back to Mercay Island. Laying on the bed I wrapped the Captain's Jacket around me a little more and fell asleep shortly afterwards.
~Later~
I felt someone touch my side as I heard my name. "(y/n)." Moving a little I tried to fall asleep again. "(y/n). Wake up, my treasure" Smiling as I noticed who it was, I opened my eyes a little. Instead of being warm, I was colder than usual. Looking at him he was kneeling down next to me. Smiling a little he brushed my hair from my face, before he furrowed his brows.
Rolling his white sleeve up, he put is arm against my forehead. Tilting his head he leaned down and kissed my forehead. Sighing as he stood up straight he looked at me. Before he could say anything I sneezed. Putting his hand on his hip he looked at me. "That does it, you're not leaving this bed for a while" he said before he took off my shoes and took the holster for my dagger off of me.
Grabbing the blanket he put it over me before he went and grabbed another one. Draping that over me he kissed my forehead. "I'll be right back, I'll go tell the kid that he was to go through the Temple of the Ocean King by himself." he said. Nodding gently he walked back up the stairs.
Linebeck's POV
Heading up the steps I reached the top before I caught Link as he ran right into me. Looking down at him Ciela came out. "Where's (y/n)? We need to go to the temple!" I shook my head and crossed my arms. "She's sick, she's not leaving this ship until she's better" I said. Looking down at Link I knelt down a little.
"You'll have to get through the temple on your own, It isn't ideal but we can't wait for her to get over her cold. Don't put yourself too hard, if you think you can't get through the next area come back to the ship and rest up. If (y/n) found out that you didn't return, she'd be pretty devastated." I said.
He nodded and ran off towards the temple. Ciela stayed and looked at me while I stood up. "What?" I had asked as she looked at me. Without a word she flew off towards the temple after the kid. Sighing I turned to head below deck where (y/n) was. I was happy that she was going to be staying on the ship with me for a while now, as selfish as it was.
I get so worried when she's not on the ship, and she's off fighting monsters with Link. I know she wants to help him and make sure he's safe. Especially after that scare with the Swift Phantom last time they were at the temple.
Once I got down the stairs, I took my boots off and shut the light off. Walking over to the bed I had noticed she was kinda balled up under the covers and shivering. Frowning as I was certain she was uncomfortable, I crawled into bed with her. Looking at her as she wore my Captain's Jacket I blushed a little.
She looked pretty cute in the blue coat. Pulling her over to me as she slept i held her close to me. Bring the blanket up to her shoulder's I let her lay her head on my chest. Rubbing my back as I tried to help keep her warm. Even though I wouldn't be able to talk to her, I was able to wonder if she saw me in her dreams, like I saw her in mine.
