What We Are Fighting For

Rey's POV

"I'm fine." I steady myself to look at Ben. "It's weird, I feel like I haven't seen you in so long, yet you've been visiting me daily." I push a sweaty lock of his hair back out of his face. "It's nice to be out of the cell."

"It's nice to see you out of there." He pulls me in for a hug.

"Can I get a drink and a hot shower please?"

"You are welcome to anything here. No permission needed."

There is a knock on the door and then it hisses open.

"You're both here. Perfect." Yerha clasps her hands together.

"What do you want?" Ben groans.

"Did you forgot about our deal?"

I look to Ben, did he strike another deal?

"You have yet to renounce the Resistance." She states.

"Haven't exactly given me the opportunity." Ben starts to roll up his sleeves revealing some bruising.

I head to the freezer in the kitchenette and pull out a make shift ice pack.

"I'm open to another deal." Yerha states. "I want Rey to as well and you both reclaim your alliance to the First Order."

"Couldn't come up with a new name?" Ben mocks and takes the ice pack from me.

"I'm working on it."

"So you want me to join the dark side?" I ask.

"Yes, both of you, I want you to take down the Resistance with me."

"Why, can't do it yourself?" Ben sasses again. I can sense the cockiness and confidence radiant off him.

"It'd just be faster with the three most powerful force users uniting with a common goal." She steps in, four troopers tailing, and the door closes. "Look if we are actually going to discuss this, then I'm going to come in and sit." She takes a seat and motions the troopers to stand to the side.

"What's the common goal?" Ben asks.

I head over to the mini fridge and pull out the blue milk to pour myself a cup.

"Well we all want to take down the Resistance."

"You want to destroy them, we wanted out of the war." I tell her.

"With the Resistance gone, there is no war." She smirks.

"With you gone there is no war either." Ben takes a seat across from her at the only other chair in the room.

"You'd miss me Ren." I can't tell if she's flirting or not, but the sexual tension from her pisses me off.

"It's Ben." I state.

"Actually it's Kylo Ren once he renounces the Resistance and takes his place at my side." She tells us. "Would that make you Darth Palbi Ren or just Palbi Ren?" She smiles at me.

"Go kriff yourself." I stare her down. "You're going to regret not killing me when you had the chance."

"She harms you at all and she's going to regret living at all." Ben chimes in and stands up looking down on her.

"Well I can tell you I don't regret joining Palbi. She had a good, clear mind with a purpose." She stands. "I can tell our conversation is done here." She heads for the door and the troopers follow suit. "Let's do it again something." She leaves and the door hisses close.

I slam my now empty glass down on the table. "I hate her." I hang my head.

"I know." Ben brushes my back.  "Let's go shower."

. . .

Ben's POV

I wake up and roll over to look at Rey who sleeps facing me. So peaceful, yet so sad.

Her vibrant skin now pale, bags hanging under her eyes, hair looking dull and flat. I'm looking at Rey, my Rey, but she's not the same. Always evolving, changing, and yet somehow still the same spirit lies in her as the day I first saw her.

I get up and get dressed, wearing the all black attire I'm given. Not exactly a uniform, but it might as well be.

Morning oats are delivered to the door, just like every other day except this time there's two. A small victory in this war that is more than welcomed, unlike the extra troopers outside the door.

I wonder how long each trooper has been part of the Order. Did they work under Rey? Myself? Most were killed on Starkiller Base, but recruitment is never over. Just like training.

I finish my oats and leave for training, leaving Rey to sleep. I walk to our training room accompanied by the four troopers assigned to me.

"Good morning Kylo." Yerha greets as I enter and find her stretching.

"Good morning."

"Hey you added good before morning!" She beams.

"What?" I ask.

"Normally you just say morning all grumpy, but you replied with good before it this morning."

"Well it's better than normal considering my wife and I are in the same bed, mind you that is normal for most people."

"Well unfortunately you and I aren't like normal people."

Lock my jaw and take a deep breathe. We wanted out of this, we really did. Rey more than I. She knows what it's like to have a level of freedom. No worry about diplomatic missions, masters to serve, and planets to rule. She had her junkyard and herself to worry about. When we get out of here, I'm taking her somewhere sunny where there is no trace of either side. Just people who only care about themselves and not on a life mission.

"Let's practice the basics of the force." I say bringing myself back to the time and place remembering my own mission right now. Finding a weakness.

"I already know the basics." Yerha protests.

"Yes, but without the basics, you have little to nothing."

Poe's POV

"General, are you ready?" Connix asks.

"Yeah, I just need a moment." I sigh and hang my head between my hands.

"It's okay. Focus on the positives." Finn tells me.

"The positives, the positives." I say to myself. "Okay, let's do this."

Finn, Connix, and I join the meeting taking place in a circle with people sitting on cargo crates. Minimal chatter among those of us left. They quiet down as we enter.

"I won't try to act like we aren't struggling. I know it's hard and we don't have many of us left. I appreciate those of you who have stayed even after I told you could go no questions asked. We've become a strong little family haven't we?" I glance around. "But we don't need the numbers like the First Order needs, when we have the best. Each of you plays an important part of this family. I need you." I scan the room. "We-" I gesture to the circle "-need you. The galaxy needs us! Villages, outposts, cities, planets fall everyday. We have not fallen, we have not given up... I have a plan. We are going to recruit secretly. We will disguise ourselves and start a small revolution. We don't have the numbers for an attack and I'm not risking the lives we can't lose. We will start small, split into groups and come back here when we have all we think we can get from these places."

"How long to we get?" Rose asks.

"Check in at every 10 days at least, come back for new assignment or after a few months." I tell everyone. "Any questions?"

"What transportation do we use?" Sassy speaks up from the back.

I smile. "We are going to find a place without First Order alliance and travel from there." I look around and no one asks anything else. "Well everyone, let's do this. Let's free the galaxy."
