speak of the devil! | chap. 6

America quickly gathered anything else he had brought with him and shoved them into the duffle bag. Trinkets, souvenirs, etc. were shoved into the bag without any care with the rest of the Americans items. Unplugging the phone charger he brought with him and also throwing it with the rest of his items before zippering the rest up.

He'd look down at his phone, scrolling through the many notifications he had gotten in the time frame his phone had been dead.

"Emails, spam emails, more spam. Are any of these emails important? And god, when did I become so popular? All these damn group chats I don't even remember being a part of." America eyed every notification with precision, trying to scope out anything important. He would sigh in relief realizing he has gotten no important emails from either other countries or personnel back in D.C.

He would then go to his messaging app, and began to look through all of the group chats and texts he had gotten. Nothing worth opening, besides the group chat a quick skim through the group chat with his brothers and maybe the "friend group group chat of U.N.'' Taking a quick look, he saw nothing important. Each group chat was just discussing the upcoming meeting like they have nothing better going on, his brothers having a bit of meaningful conversations in between the discussion.

The friend group chat was a different story, as there was not only the topic of the upcoming meeting but also so much arguing it made America laugh a lot. The group chat in total was about 10 people and was mostly Eastern European countries. How did America and Canada get in such a group chat when they were so not European in the slightest? He doesn't even know, but he won't question it!

The countries were obviously America and Canada, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Latvia. Canada got in because of Ukraine, the amount of times he had heard that story from his brother was insane, and by proxy America was also accepted into it.

With many protests, Ukraine added him saying something along the lines of "Russia fucking hates him, so it'll be funny if he's in here and they argue a lot." To which, everyone agreed and accepted him.

Skimming through it, he saw many arguments in the country's respective native language. Poland and Hungary were conversing on the side, as they both knew each other's language by heart, while Ukraine and Russia were arguing once again. Everyone else, besides America and Canada, were watching this unfold and making side comments in their language. Some laughing, some commenting on it, some trying to keep peace, but the two siblings didn't pay any attention to them as the fight continued on.

America chuckled, clicking the much needed translation button to read what they were arguing about. It was something that really did not concern him, nor did he really care, but it was some kind of entertainment since Canada went and abandoned him just like that. Not even a goodbye or anything!

He looked through the chat, seeing it was some family shit the sibling pair were arguing about. Something about their dick of a father, daddies' boy and the sibling who hates him. Love to see it, as he always did about once a week in this group chat.

Poland and Hungary were just making fun of the dead communist, really, no one liked Ukraine's and Russia's dead father. The other countries seemed to have and tried to say something to stop the two from fighting, but gave up very shortly after and began to join Poland and Hungary's teasing.

America noticed shortly after that two of the countries were online and actively typing, Slovakia and Russia. He did not want any part of it, so he quickly closed out of the app. No message from the pilot or anyone else, so he decided to read the U.S news while he waited maybe another 30 minutes for a palace worker to come get him for dinner with the family!

Nothing new or important was happening in his home country that he wasn't already aware of, scrolling mindlessly through countless headlines and news stories. Then, he got a ping from the group chat he was just stalking. He reopened the messenger app and turned on the translator once again.

The group chat was just countries typing in their native languages because they were either too lazy to translate it for everyone or just didn't know how to write in everyone's language. To be fair, with 10 countries in the group chat and maybe 80% not knowing everyone's language was hard enough.

America eyed the message he was pinged in, realizing it was Russia. The message would read something along the lines of "Get back in here American, we both saw you." America sighed loudly as he began to type back.

America: "whats up you two? was just catching up on the drama in here"

Rossiya: "Is that all you did?"

Slovensko: "Hej Amerika."

America: "hey Slovakia"

Rossiya: "You are always here after a fight."

America: "yea thats because theyre interesting to read. im trapped in this palace lemme get some entertainment:)"

Slovensko: "It makes sense?"

Rossiya: "But you break the translator with your bad grammar."

America: "is that all you need russia"

Slovensko: "He was hoping you would want to talk to him more."

Rossiya: "I will kill you Slovakia."

America: "so aggressive sounds like my cue to leave!"

Slovensko: "I thought you liked chatting on the internet?"

America: "is that another stereotype im hearing rn"

Rossiya: "What is 'rn'?"

America: "right now."

Slovensko: "Sounds like excuses you need to sort out."

Rossiya: "Slovakia is talking nonsense again."

Slovensko: "I'm just telling the honest truth!"

Rossiya: "What truth are you talking about?"

Slovensko: "You know which one."

America: "im like so confused can someone tell me wtf is going on"

Rossiya: "You can talk about many things Slovakia."

Slovensko: "But if I say you could strangle me at the next meeting."

Rossiya: "If we think the same you are wrong."

America then decided that was enough of that and closed out of the app, they can continue arguing or whatever the fuck they were doing. Arguing about whatever, it's clearly some kinda inside joke or something.

He is also surprised the translator built into the app was working, it's usually down or brings out either horrible broken translations the country couldn't wrap his head around. America looked at the time on his phone, maybe about 10 minutes left until dinner. Why not get a head start?

The country pocketed his phone and got up, walking out of his room. Trying to find the stairs, America almost got lost again before a younger maid walked up to him and asked to follow her. He did, analyzing the woman and her many actions. She was very quiet and sweet, seemingly good at her job but also really young for that kind of efficiency. Weird, he'd think before finding himself in a large dining hall. He thanked the maid and quickly made it to his seat that was right next to Canada.

Canada and America made eye contact, noticing the lack of their parents at the table. The table was extremely long, but the family made it so when they eat together they sit in the middle of the table right across from each other. He quickly looked down at his phone to check the time, it's right about that time and his father usually isn't late. Maybe some complication came up and his mother is helping the old man get to the table safe and sound.

"Yo, Canada, have you seen the group chat yet?" America asked, trying to make small talk to pass the time.

"Which one? I've read the one with Aussie and NZ, and I've responded to a few messages here and there."

"The U.N one with, uh, all the Eastern European countries?"

"Oh, no I haven't read it yet. Anything interesting or new or is it just the same old shit?"

"Nah, but I was gonna ask you something. I dunno if you're gonna have the answer to it but, y'know, it's worth a shot asking." America's words slurred as he pulled out his phone to show Canada the previous short conversation he had with the two countries.

He handed his phone to Canada with the chat logs open, translator on of course, and let Canada read the entirety of it before waiting for a response. America felt his leg begin to bounce, either out of impatience or anxiousness, he didn't know why. Canada handed back the phone to his older brother before getting ready to speak again.

"I don't get it, what're you asking me?" Canada asked, a puzzled look on his face.

"Did you even read the conversation? I think it's pretty obvious what I'm trying to ask you man. You're like smart, I don't get it."

"I know I'm smart thank you, but, which part are you asking about specifically?"

"Y'know, what Slovakia said! I think Slovakia said it, I think."

"All Slovakia did was have a playful argument with Russia, are you talking about that.. oh. I get what you're asking now!"

"Took you long enough man! Decipher this ancient ass text for me!" America would tease, adding onto his previous sentence. "Seriously don't get how it took you that long.."

"When he said that, it was something like 'Russia was hoping to talk with you more'? Is that what you mean?" Canada titled his head slightly to the side as he asked that question, he couldn't tell if America was joking with his question or not.

"Yea, like, I can't tell if he's joking or not? Is he dead serious? Why would Russia want to speak with me more? Then they started to have that silly little argument so I'm getting hella mixed signals, and I know my younger brother is super super smart and can decipher anything..."

"What mixed signals dude? It sounds like Slovakia meant what he said, exactly that. And, like I said earlier when we were chatting in your room, you both act like that one T.V. trope." Canada was still so incredibly confused, he knew America was stupid but not this stupid.

"But like.. why would Russia and Slovakia start fighting after that?! Me, myself, and I are getting super mixed signals from that!" America put his hands on the table, looking for a glass.

"I think you're reading into it too much, but you do you I guess." Canada's head looked over at the main entrance to the dining hall, seeing his mother and father hand in hand walking into the room.

The two countries straightened themselves up, Canada and America both taking off their respective hat and glasses. Canada set his iconic hat onto his lap and fixed his hair up as America hesitantly took off his sunglasses and put them in the same pocket as his phone. The older sibling blinked a few times to help his eyes adjust to the lighting, that was seeming way to fucking bright, as they both waiting for their parents to sit down.
