Avery and Megan arrive at Angel's Memorial Hospital. They stand to the side of the ambulance bay.

'This is the hospital I was treated at after the crash and when I went cray-cray.' Avery tells Megan. 'So I might just know this Mike dude.'

'Yeah...ehhh... I don't think I can do this.' Megan mumbles, looking up at the hospital. 'Nope.' She adds louder as she turns around and starts walking away.

'Are you fucking kidding me?!' Avery yells, making Megan freeze and turn back around. Avery knows everyone heard her but she doesn't care. 'Seriously? You fly all the way out here to talk to this guy. Your dad. And you're going to chicken out?' She asks. 'I don't think so.' She shakes her head. Her voice is still raised and Megan glances around seeing people staring at them.

'¡Ahora! ¡Ahora! ¿qué pasa con todos los gritos?' (Translation: Now! Now! What's with all the shouting?). A nurse said walking out of the ER and over to them. A look of shock descends onto his face when he sees Avery. 'Avery?'

'Hola, Jesse.' Avery smiles as they hug.

'You know him?' Megan asks Avery as the pair part.

'He was one of the nurses that treated me after the quarry accident.' Avery simply says. 'He came up and sat with me a few times so I wasn't alone.'

'Jesse, esta es Megan, mi mejor amiga de Austin.' (Translation: Jesse, this is Megan, my best friend from Austin). Avery introduces Megan to Jesse.

'Nice to meet you.' Jesse smiles.

'Likewise.' Megan nods. 'You speak Spanish?' Megan glances at Avery.

'I was already learning Spanish before the accident but Jesse taught me whilst I was in the hospital and I've kept learning and practising.' Avery explains.

'And it's improved.' Jesse tells her proudly.

'Thanks.' Avery blushes.

'So, what is with all the shouting?' Jesse repeats his first question.

'Oh, sorry. That's my fault.' Avery apologises. 'I was yelling at her.'

'Why?' Jesse asks.

'We're here for a reason... a personal reason. She's meeting someone.' Avery tells him, not wanting to go into more detail.

'I just found out who my biological dad is and he apparently works here.' Megan adds, not wanting to give a name just in case Mike didn't want that information shared with anyone.

'Right.' Jesse states.

'Yeah, we came over. Well, she did and I followed. She was about to walk away but I am not letting that happen.' Avery looks at Megan.

'Well, I will leave you two to sort this out but please stop shouting. I have to get back to work.' Jesse tells them. He walks back into the ER whilst Megan and Avery walk over to a wall and sit on it. Avery takes her book out of her bag and starts reading whilst Megan waits anxiously.

'Heads up.' Megan taps Avery's knee when she sees Mike walking over to them. Avery puts her book in her bag and looks up, smiling when she recognises the doctor. The two teens jump off the wall.

'Dr Leighton.' Avery smiles. 'I'm sure you don't remember me because it was so long ago. But you treated me after my mom's car crashed into a Quarry.' Mike thinks for a moment.

'No, I do remember.' He nods. 'It's good to see you and that you're doing okay.'

'Well, I was going to say, Mike, this is Avery, my best friend from Austin. Avery, this is Mike Leighton.' Megan says, reintroducing them and thinking Mike should know who Avery is to her.

'I'm not staying, I just wanted to make sure you weren't a serial killer.' Avery tells him, making him chuckle nervously and glance at Megan.

'I don't know.' Megan shrugs.

'Now I know you're not. I'm gonna go and leave you two alone. Hopefully, I'll see you again soon.' Avery smiles. Her expression turns serious. 'I'm just going to say this once - you hurt her and you'll have to deal with me. And believe me, I am batshit crazy.'

'Avery!' Megan playfully slaps her.

'Bye now.' Avery smiles and walks off leaving the two alone.

.

The next day, Avery and Megan decide to head to the fair at one of the local parks. The fair is part of an annual festival L.A. has. They're walking around when Avery spots a stall. She squeals and grabs onto Megan.

'What?' Megan asks, looking around.

'Look!' Avery points over to a Ring Toss booth with a banner that says, "scores over 200 win a grand prize".

'Ave, those games are rigged. The chances of you getting a 200 is impossible.' Megan shakes her head. 'Don't waste your money.'

'You underestimate me.' Avery states before walking over to the booth. Megan sighs and follows her. Avery looks at the options for rings and looks up at the attendant. '10 rings please.' She hands over the money and she's handed some rings.

'Just throw the rings. The bottles all have points attached to them.' The attendant tells them. 'I'll tally up the points after.' Avery nods, takes a stance and throws the rings. Once she's thrown the rings, the attendant counts them. 'Sorry, you only got 190.' He tells her, despite Avery actually getting dead on 200.

'Do you want to count again?' Avery raises an eyebrow.

'I'm sorry?' The attendant asks nervously.

'I got 200.' Avery states. 'If you want to fight me on this, I can call my brother and he can sort this out. He's a cop.' Megan looks between Avery and the attendant, not being sure what to do. 'I've been to this fair every year for the past few years. I've played this game every single time and have won. Every. Single. Time.' A look of recognition descends on the attendant's face.

'It's you!' He points at her and Avery grins. 'I've been running this booth for over a decade and you're the only person that has beaten 200 points.'

'What can I say?' Avery widens her arms. 'I have impeccable aim.' She drops her arms and plants her hands on the counter of the booth. 'Now, what's my prize?' The attendant chuckles and shakes his head.

'You have two options.' The attendant tells her. 'A PS5 or two tickets to the Harry Styles concert tomorrow night. His team donated tickets to some of the booths.' Avery turns to Megan.

'You won. You choose.' Megan states.

'Do you like Harry Styles?' Avery asks. 'Because I fucking love him.'

'I guess?' Megan shrugs. Avery turns to the attendant.

'We'll take the tickets.' Avery tells him. He nods, walks to the back of the booth and returns a minute later. He hands over an envelope.

'There you go.' He tells them. 'Have fun and I'll see you next year?'

'Thank you.' Avery smiles. 'And maybe.' She adds before they walk off. They go around the different games booths, Megan collecting their prizes in her bag as they go along, and on the rides before deciding to head to stalls that were selling things. Avery spots a bookstall and, Avery being Avery, makes a beeline for it. As Avery is looking at the books, Megan gets a message so she pulls her phone out of her pocket.

'Ooo, you might like this one.' Avery says, trying to find a book that Megan might like.

'Not really one for reading, Ave.' Megan says for what felt like the hundredth time.

'We'll see about that.' Avery mumbles as Megan reads the message on her phone.

'Oh my god.' Megan says.

'What?' Avery asks as she turns to face Megan.

'Mike has the results but he hasn't opened them yet.' Megan tells her friend.

'Already?' Avery asks, surprised.

'Yeah,' Megan nods, 'he got it rushed since he knows people in the lab.' Megan thinks of a reply. 'He asked if I wanted him to just open it himself or meet up later to do it together. ' Megan tells her.

'We'll probably still be out by the time his shift finishes. You should go.' Avery tells her.

'What about you? Megan asks.

'There's something I want to do, so I'll do that.' Avery replies.

'Okay, cool.' Megan nods. 'I'm gonna go and get ready and mentally prepare.' Avery laughs slightly. 'I'll see you later.' They both hug and part ways.

.

Avery decides to go for a walk before going to do what needs to be done. She walks into what used to be her favourite coffee shop to get a coffee. As she's walking out she bumps into Hen and Chimney who are getting coffees for the firehouse. Avery and Chimney have kept in touch and she's also kept in touch with the rest of the 118 as well as Maya.

'Hey.' Chimney smiles as they hug.

'Hey.' Avery smiles. 'Hey, Hen.'

'Hey, Avery.' Hen smiles as they too, hug. 'What brings you back to L.A.?'

'I'm here with a friend.' Avery tells them. 'She's sorting out some personal stuff and I didn't want her to do it alone.'

'True friendship right there.' Chimney says.

'Yeah, well she's helped me through a lot.' Avery shrugs.

'We better get going but you should stop by the 118. I'm sure everyone would love to see you.' Chimney tells her.

'Yeah, for sure.' Avery smiles and nods. 'There's something I wanna do first but I'll pop by later.'

'We'll see you then.' Hen smiles before they part ways.

.

Half an hour later, Avery finds herself walking into a cemetery. She's carrying some flowers and a carrier bag. She makes her way through until she finds the headstone she's looking for. It has some dead flowers scattered around the base.

Ollie Forrester

Died: Age 4

'Hey, bud.' She smiles slightly as she sits down in front of it. She rests the flowers against the headstone and reaches into the bag. 'I bought you these.' She takes out some toy trucks and places them just in front of the flowers. 'Sorry I haven't been to see you. Life has been uh- hectic to say the least.' she sighs. 'I moved to Austin to live with my dad and T.K, my brother.' She adds. 'Our brother, I guess.' She looks down and starts plucking at the grass. 'I miss you, baby bro.' She says quietly, trying to hold back tears. 'You're back with mom, now.' She looks up to the sky. 'I hope you're looking after each other up there.' She wipes the few tears that have fallen from her eyes and looks back at the headstone. 'Let's get this tided up a bit, shall we?' She takes some scissors out of the bag and starts trimming the overgrown grass at the base of the headstone and puts the dead flowers into the carrier bags. Once she's finished tidying up the headstone the best she can, she returns to her original position. 'Jase is still a big goofball.' She laughs quietly. 'He misses you too. I hope Abby is looking after you up there and you're running her ragged. You used to love when we'd run around after you.' She takes her phone out, brings up Jason's number and facetimes him. He picks up after a couple of rings.

'Hey.' He smiles, but it turns into a serious look when he sees that she's been crying. 'Ave? What's wrong?'

'I erm, I came to Ollie's grave.' Avery tells him.

'Oh, Ave.' Jason sighs sympathetically.

'I'm okay.' Avery lies.

'Ave, you're clearly not okay.' Jason states. 'What do you need?'

'Can you just stay on the phone with me until I'm ready to leave?'

'Of course.' Jason nods.

.

A couple of hours later, Avery is walking into the 118. Chimney, who is doing inventory on the ambulance, spots her first and walks over to her.

'You came.' He grins.

'Of course, I did.' Avery nods.

'Come on, everyone's upstairs.' Chimney tells her before leading her up the stairs. Everyone is sitting around the table.

'Look who's here.' Everyone looks up at them and smiles.

'Hey, Avery!' They all greet her.

'Please tell me you didn't run away again.' Bobby sighs.

'No.' Avery shakes her head, laughing. 'I'm here with a friend. She's dealing with some family stuff.' She adds. 'I can only assume Chim texted my brother earlier after he saw me to make sure.'

'I did.' Chimney laughs. 'And she's telling the truth. Her dad and brother know she's here.'

'I thought I'd pop by and say hello.' Avery smiles as she and Chimney sit at the table.

'So what have you been up to?' Eddie asks the young girl. 'Staying out of trouble?'

'Trying to.' Avery jokes.

'How are things with your dad?' Bobby questions, knowing their history.

'Better.' Avery smiles and nods. 'Way better.'

'That's good to hear.' Bobby nods.

'So, how long are you in L.A. for?' Buck asks.

'Until the end of the week, at least.' Avery replies. 'My friend and I went to the fair earlier and won some tickets to the Harry Styles concert tomorrow night so we arranged with my dad to stay a little longer.'

'I'm glad you and your dad are getting along now.' Chimney tells her.

'Yeah.' Avery sighs. 'I am too. When I got back to Austin when I ran away, they told me some stuff about my mom. How she kept me from them and vice versa. She lied saying I didn't want to see them and they didn't want to see me.'

'I'm sorry that happened.' Chimney sympathises.

'Not much to be done about it now.' Avery sighs. 'In a way, I'm glad that the accident happened and my mom died. If none of that happened then I never would have found the truth. I wouldn't have the relationship I have with my dad now. I'd never have met my best friend, Megan.' She continues. 'Does that make me a bad person? To be thinking like that?'

'No.' Hen shakes her head. 'It doesn't.' Everyone agrees.

'It doesn't make you a bad person to be relieved that you finally have the relationship you want with your brother and dad.' Chimney adds. 'It makes you human.'

'I guess.' Avery mumbles. They all spend the next half hour catching up until 118 are called to an emergency.

'It was nice seeing you again.' Chimney says quickly as they hug. 'Hopefully, we'll see you again before you leave?'

'Yeah, I'll try and come. I'll bring Megan too.' Avery replies. They say goodbye and 118 rush off with Avery leaving a few minutes later.

As she's walking out of the station, her phone pings so she takes it out and looks at it.

Trouble: I guess you and T.K. aren't my only family anymore :)

Avery smiles when she sees the message, happy for her friend. She taps out a reply and sends it.

Avery: Bestie!! Yayyy! I'm so happy for you! Remember to tell him what I said yesterday! And I'll have T.K., Carlos and everyone else on my side too.

Once she's sent the message, she slips her phone into her pocket and makes her way back to the hotel.
