This Drink Is Gnarly!
(This isnt important, just a food science lesson I felt like doing because I have nothing else to do RN XD)
Okay guys, so this is just a little update on my day because I haven't had the motivation to update anything else RN.🙃
So right now, all I have to do is read for a little bit for my Academic and Career Success class. (And yes, that class is as boring as it sounds XD)
So of course, I'm reading my Spartan Fit book! (And that's the book with the autographs I showed a few chapters ago.) But, I'm doing that later... I mean it's Friday and I just don't feel like it RN...
But, the main reason why I'm posting this is because of what I'm drinking on my own free will. (And if your first thought was alcohol you're wrong! I'm not about that life y'all)
And just as a forewarning, this is like a food science chapter, so if school is stressing your brain out, I suggest not reading this XD. Unless you really want to! I mean hey, you're the reader, I'm not stopping you!
Okay, so if you're wondering why I'm doing this, it's for two reasons:
#1: I LOVE food science and felt like getting a bit more knowledge (and I may go into dietary science/ food science when I get older!)
#2: Because I'm really bored and don't have much else to do RN XD
So let's just get in to the details!
Okay, so this should give you an idea about how terrible this is. I mean, just look at the name of the drink guys!
Greens Freak... Even the name doesn't give a good impression does it?
Let's break it down. Whenever you hear the word 'greens' you think spinach and lettuce and things like that right?
(Back of the container that has some of the ingredients on it)
Well, I wish it was that! This is wheatgrass and spirulina and chlorella. And for those of you that have no idea what I'm talking about, here's what each of those things are.
Spirulina is basically a ground up Cyanobacterium. And what's a Cyanobacterium? It's an aquatic bacteria, or if I need to break it down even more, it's a bacteria that grows underwater.
Any guesses on what this is?
Yep, it's blue-green algae.
But! It is perfectly safe to eat or drink or consume in any way possible! And the reason I'm drinking it, is because this has a lot of great health benefits like:
•60% protein and an excellent source of vitamins A, K1, K2, B12 and iron, manganese and chromium
•A rich source of health-giving phytonutrients such as carotenoids, GLA, SOD and phycocyanin
•2800% more beta-carotene than carrots
•3900% more iron than spinach
•600% more protein than tofu
•280% more antioxidants than blueberries
And I'll tell you, that's a great thing- if you still have no idea what I'm on about! (Basically, it does everything good like: lower risk of cancer, regulates blood pressure, boosts energy, help you loose weight faster, and basically every good thing like that)
Okay next is Chlorella. Sounds a lot like another green thing. Chlorophyll, right? But! This is also a Cyanobacterium and its green algae. So it has a lot of the same effects as spirulina, but it has a couple different effects too. Here's another list:
•It's packed with amino acids: Amino acids are building blocks of muscles that are essential for body builders, runners, and athletes of basically any sport you can think of!
•They're more fatty than spirulina: the fat content of chlorella is WAY higher than spirulina. But, this isn't a bad kind of fat like what's in pizza and cheese- this is the kind of fat that is good for you! Omega fatty acids- or the "healthy fats" as people call them. Omega fatty acids are commonly found in avocados, salmon, chia seeds, fish oil... I'm sure y'all have heard of them.
But basically to sum all the other benefits up, chlorella is full of antioxidants and a bunch of other vitamins that, like spirulina, relieve stress and anxiety, reduce asthma attacks, and even boost mental health.
But, I think that's enough info about the drink. It's a really dark green color and it's just... Ugh... It's gross guys. (If for some reason you want to see the drink, just tell me and I'll post it somewhere😂) And as an organic food eater, athlete, and just overall health nut, it's safe to say I've eaten some weird and gnarly things before, but this has to be one of the worst...
But anyways, I guess I should get reading now! Thank you guys for reading all of my nonsense, and if you want another one of these, tell me in the comments what food or drink or supplement you want me to break down next! I would love to try another food!
And until next time my loves... I'M OUT!
