Why We're Like Rapunzel
Hello everyone! Having listened to others compare Rapunzel's story to our current situations, and watching the movie and seeing the similarities for myself, I decided to share with you all why I think that we're a bit like Rapunzel right now!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~1~ Quarantining, trapped in a tower - what's the difference?
Poor Rapunzel! Kidnapped away from her parents as a baby and forced to live in a tower, locked away from the rest of society for 18 years. Well, maybe we aren't trapped in a tower and haven't been in quarantine for 18 years, but you can definitely see some similarities! At least we knew of the outside world before being in quarantine, Rapunzel didn't even have that.
~2~ Trying all sorts of things to keep ourselves from being bored
At the early hour of 7 in the morning, Rapunzel had her entire day planned out. She would bake, play chess, take a climb, paint, and brush, and brush, and brush her hair! It's a little like what we did in the start of quarantine - try to find a million new hobbies to entertain ourselves, and hopefully find out we had some hidden talents in the process. I, for one, started watercolor painting and really enjoy it! What hobbies have you picked up?
~3~ Less then adequate people skills
Maybe this is a projection of the future, or simply conjecture, but perhaps our social skills will need a little more levelling up when we go full throttle back into the world, once everything is safe again. Rapunzel had this dilemma too - after having Mother Gothel as her only source of human interaction for 18 years, when she first met Flynn, she was not the best at the greetings. She was a bit better at bludgeoning him with a frying pan and tying him up in her hair. Of course, she did have all those horror stories Mother Gothel told her about the world, but, just a word to the wise, please don't go out hitting people with frying pans once quarantine ends!
~4~ Looking at the world with wonder
When Rapunzel was finally helped by Flynn to come out of her tower and into the kingdom, she was loving everything and everyone there! She was eating cupcakes (she probably only ate hazelnut soup for 18 years!), drawing the Kingdom's flag with chalk, and even getting her hair braided and done up with flowers by some village girls. Not to mention, she got to dance with Eugene, which makes the day even better. When we're done with quarantine, I think we'll all have that same zest for life and appreciation for all the things we get to do. We definitely took some things for granted before, didn't we?
~5~ Realizing our dreams
For her whole life, it was Rapunzel's dream to see the "floating lights," as she called it, and she finally got to see the lanterns! It was a moment of pure amazement in happiness, as her lifelong dream was finally realized. It'll be the same with us. Right now, we have so many dreams and things we want to do that we will be able to pursue when quarantine ends. Hopefully, we all have that same look of wonder as Rapunzel did.
Thank you guys so much for reading this chapter! I had a lot of fun writing about the similarities between our situation right now and Rapunzel's, and I hope you had fun reading it. Stay kawaii and bye for now!
