The Hawaiian Boy
Hello everyone! I hope you're having an awesome day. For this chapter, I've decided to write a little story with two characters of mine, Daniela and Kekoa. I just really felt like writing about these two and so I did. I hope you enjoy! :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright, honey, your dad and I are off to our business meeting." Her parents were both impeccably dressed in dashing business suits, donning themselves with a sleek and shiny look. Their bookbags, both overstuffed with important papers, were being carried by the humble taxi driver next to them. Daniela, a 17 year old girl with a penchant for adventure, looked back at her parents with her usual calm and obedient smile and nod. "Bye you guys, have fun." She wished upon them, but she knew that these countless business meetings were anything but fun - for her and her parents. Her mother could sense her apprehensiveness to turn her parents over to corporate. She sighed and cupped a hand over her daughter's cheek. "We won't be gone that long. Try to have fun. You're in Hawaii!" She reminded her. Daniela nodded, gently grasping her mom's hand. "I know, I just always miss you guys."
Her father came around from the corner, hanging up the cell phone he was just talking into. "Honey, we have to head out now, we're already late." He urgently told his wife. He smiled, looking back at his young daughter. "We'll only be gone a couple hours. Maybe you can go look at all the shops or learn how to surf or something." Her father suggested, coming up with activities for his daughter to partake in. Daniela, though, already knew what she would do with her time. "I'll keep that in mind, dad." The whole family came together in a tight hug. Even though they were apart from each other, they had a very strong bond. That's what made it even harder for them when they hard to break apart from one another. However, time was not on their side. They all broke off the hug, Daniela's parents clambering into the taxi. They rolled down the windows as they took off, waving back at their daughter standing alone by the hotel.
Daniela waved for as long as she could, until she saw the taxi make a turn right and disappear from her sight. She sighed, feeling that same sick feeling she always did whenever her parents left. She could only hope that they'd be safe and they'd return to her soon. She stuffed her hands into the jeans of her pockets and walked in the opposite direction of the hotel. With all this time on her hands, she knew exactly how she wanted to spend it. She started walking to a road sign.
BEACH THIS WAY ------->
She let out a grin and proceeded to head down to the beach. There was always something she loved about the water. Whether it was the sandy beaches, the salty smell, the interesting wildlife, or even the amazing feeling of wading deep into the water and feeling so close to the ocean. She loved it all, and Hawaii was certainly the place to do all of that. After only a couple minutes of walking, Daniela reached the ocean. She took in all the sights, smells, feelings, everything. It was better than she could have even imagined. The beautiful ocean before her was a sparkling blue, the waters seemingly endless. The golden sand looked so warm and soft, and the mountains and cliffs surrounding the ocean made the whole scene even more picturesque. Daniela let out an awe-inspired gasp. She quickly ran down to the beach, as far as her little legs could carry her.
She finally arrived, kicking off her flip-flops. The sand felt so warm and soft in between her toes. She giggled like a little kid and picked up her shoes. She walked closer to the ocean, feeling the temperature drop as she ventured nearer to the cold sea. She reached the wet sand, the waves coming close enough to wash over her up to her ankles. She smiled and splashed a little in the waves. She could never feel so free as she did then. Suddenly, she heard a sound on the water. It was a little muffled, but she heard it nonetheless. She looked out to the sea, seeing someone gliding over the ocean, shouting to her. She tilted her head and squinted her eyes to better see who this mystery figure was.
The figure came closer and closer to her, until she could finally see that it was young man on a surfboard shouting to her. He was waving his arms a lot too in a very urgent manner. He was coming closer and closer until Daniela's eyes widened with the realization. He was coming way too close to her. No..
He was coming right at her.
Daniela gasped and quickly dodged him, falling to the sand. The surfer glided right onto the sand, barely missing Daniela by a hair. The surfer jumped off of his board and ran until his legs caught up with the speed he was going. He regained his balance, still stumbling over his footing a little. He looked back and picked up his board, which almost was taken away by the current. He ran back to Daniela. "Ai yi yi!" He exclaimed with a concerned look on his face. Daniela sat up to face the surfer. "I'm really sorry about that, I just lost control of where I was going. I feel terrible!" The boy profusely apologized. Daniela smiled and waved her hands. "It's really not a big deal, nobody got hurt." The boy smiled. "I'm definitely glad about that." He extended his hand to Daniela to help her up. Daniela smiled and took his hand, standing up. She was covered in sand from the waist down, but that was okay. She could just take a dip in the ocean later to wash it all off. She brushed some of the sand off of herself, looking at the boy.
He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand. "I know you're alright and everything, but I still feel terrible. How can I make it up to you?" He asked. Daniela was touched at his level of concern for her. After all, she was just a stranger. Anybody else would have just apologized and left, and sometimes not even that. She didn't want to impose on this stranger though. "No, really, it's okay. You don't have to do anything for me." Daniela waved her hands in front of her, a surefire sign that everything was a-okay. The boy flashed a grin, showing off his immaculate pearly whites. "Nonsense, it is only right that I do something. How about some shaved ice? I know a great shaved ice place not too far from here." He suggested, getting excited at the mention of the sweet treat. Daniela thought for a moment. Shaved ice did sound really good and she had been wanting to try something Hawaiian on her trip. "Are you sure?" She double-checked. The boy nodded. "Positive, now come on." He grabbed her hand and started leading her to the shaved ice place.
Daniela's cheeks heated up at this small interaction, but she brushed it off. She looked up at the boy, tilting her head. He looked back at her, the same friendly look on his face. Suddenly, he realized he was still holding her hand. "Oh, so sorry!" He apologized again and removed her hand from his grip. "No no, it's fine." Daniela smiled. She certainly felt like he was apologizing for a lot. "I'm Kekoa, by the way, it's nice to meet you. Well, the circumstances weren't the best at first, but maybe that was just how we were destined to meet!" Daniela smiled at his charm. The way they were destined to meet? He must have read a lot of romance novels. "I'm Daniela, nice meeting you too." "So Daniela, are you on vacation here?" "How did you know that?" Kekoa gave a little smirk. "Well, I am a Hawaiian native and I know pretty much everybody that goes to Surfer's Beach. You were new." He explained. Daniela smiled. "Very observant of you to notice everyone that happens to stop by that beach." "Well, I'm there everyday. I'm a professional surfer, so I'm out on the waves a lot." Daniela's eyes sparkled. "That's so cool!"
Kekoa smiled. "Thanks. I'm also a surfing instructor and I teach a lot of foreigners, and some locals, how to surf. Maybe I can teach you one of these days! How long are you staying here?" Daniela counted all the days that her family would spend in the state, coming to her conclusion. "We're staying for two weeks." Kekoa smiled. "That's plenty of time for a surfing lesson. Let me know if you ever want to take me up on my offer. I'll even give you a discount." He winked and nudged her on the arm. Daniela laughed, feeling very comfortable with Kekoa. "I'll keep that in mind. I'll have a lot of downtime, so maybe I'll go ahead and take you up on that offer sometime." "Are you travelling with anyone else or are you a lone ranger?" Kekoa asked. "I'm travelling with my parents. This is technically a business trip, so they're on business while I just get a vacation from school." Kekoa laughed. "Well, tell them to come down to the beach when they're free. Everybody deserves to experience some run and relaxation, no matter what the purpose of their trip is."
Daniela liked Kekoa's laid-back attitude. Perhaps she could convince her parents to enjoy themselves one of these days, especially since they were in Hawaii now. They always made work the central focus of their lives, Daniela wished they could just lay back and have fun every so often. Maybe if they did that they would spend time with her more. Daniela didn't realize she was thinking for a while until she saw Kekoa out of her peripheral vision, staring at her. "Daniela, are you okay?" He asked. Daniela looked back at him with a smile. "Yeah. I'm sorry, I was just thinking about something." Kekoa took her hands in his and smiled. "Don't worry, Daniela, we'll have a good time today! Now come on, let's head to that shaved ice place. They have the best shaved ice in all of Hawaii!" He took her hand and ran with her. The two both giggled as they knew they were about to have the best time of their lives.
