(Y/N P.O.V.)

I couldn't believe it, but Harper was the kid I knew since my childhood. Sure, he was nineteen now, but I still couldn't believe that Bryce Harper became the Great Bryce Harper. He was such a shy kid, and I knew he was dedicated to the game. But, when I found out he made a living doing what he loves, all I could do was look at him and smile.

I spoke to him and said, "How did you do this?"

Harper said to me, "You were my motivation, Y/N. I wanted to impress you, my good friend. After I left, I wanted to make sure that no other guy could have you ever again. I wanted to make sure that I could find you again and be a different man."

I looked at the man and smiled. He still cared for me.

He asked again, "Do you like the party?"

I said, "Yes."

That whole night, Harper and I danced as if we'd never left each other's side. It was rare that we were ever separated, except for those instances where our lives would separate off onto our own paths. These instances would happen when he had to report to the ballpark or practice, but on the road had to be the worst for the both of us.

I was always scared that the team wouldn't come back. Or, maybe I was scared that he would leave me for some other girl.

But, that never happened, because I had faith in Harper. He would come back to me, and never leave.

That October, they won the World Series. It was an absolute celebration for all of Washington D.C., and the best part of all is that they won it at home.

Everyone in the apartment complex was just waiting for the Great Bryce Harper to throw one of his magnificent parties to celebrate the trophy coming home to it's rightful place.

The party never came. It never happened. Even after all of that drama throughout October, I should have seen it coming. The weather was frigid for that last game when I saw the Great Bryce Harper. And, after winning it all, he just left. The lights never again went on in that house where those parties were held.

I stood by my window for days hoping to catch a glimpse of the man who once thrived there. But, they were as dark as the rain that came down on those October evenings.

It was on Halloween that I decided to check on my neighbor. I rang the doorbell, and one of the many party goers that attended Harper's parties answered. I recognized the fellow, but I could not recall his name. So, I gave him the nickname of Dumbo Ears.

I asked, "Where is Mr. Harper?"

Dumbo Ears replied, "He left. Didn't say a word even to me. Why are you curious Y/N?"

I didn't know what to say to that, but I tried to continue on with my life here in Washington D.C.. It was hard, but I made the best of it.

But, the best part was that in April, he would come back. That meant that summer was here. The Great Bryce Harper would leave during those cold winter evenings, and would not return until April.

And I think he knew that I would be waiting for April too.
