Chapter 7

Virgil's POV

I have decided I would rather do my art project with anyone else, honestly the project is kinda weird.

I don't think it really even counts as a group project when technically you're barely even working with your partner and we're just drawing each other.

I'm sitting at art as the teacher explains what's on the agenda for today. She's basically just telling us to talk to our partners and start drawing.

Roman and I sat at a table at the back of the room and began discussing a project that I'll most likely end up procrastinating on.

"I was thinking, we could do something other then just drawing a normal portrait of each other!" Roman said enthusiastically.

"Oh yeah? Like what?" I asked, sounding as bored as I felt.

"I can't come up with all the ideas!" He announced sounding like he's already done with my bs.

"I dunno, I have an idea but it's stupid..." I said looking away from his general direction.

"Just say it J-Delightful." He said sighing.

"Alright princey, I was thinking we could draw each other the way we see each other." I said deciding to be brave and making direct eye contact then immediately regretting every life choice that has lead up to this moment.

Roman thought for a moment before nodding slightly.

"I like it, but in order to do that I think we'd have to get to know each other better." He said looking like he'd rather die then have to spend time with me.

I knew it. He hates me.

"Yeah I guess so..." I mumbled.

"Are you doing anything after school?" He asked as he started to fidget with his pencil.

"I don't think so." I replied already feeling anxious at the thought of having to spend an extended period of time outside of school with this guy who may or may not be my soulmate.

"Alright we could meet up after school and just figure the rest out then. I might be a bit late though I need to talk to Patton after school before I go." He said looking at the ground as if that simple sentence made go off on a tangent in his head.

"That's...fine I guess. You know Patton?" I asked. It actually wasn't fine because I hate it when I don't know exactly what's happening and having to figure things out on the spot makes me uneasy.

"Oh yeah, we've been friends for years! He's friends with basically everyone actually, but we're close!" He said energetically.

That makes sense actually, someone who wants to be friends with everyone and is very social would be the only kind of person that would try to talk to me without being forced to.

I went through the rest of the day being anxious and trying to decide early on where to go after school so there isn't too much awkward silence.

Once my classes finally ended I walked to my locker and put everything I didn't need at home into it.

I slipped my phone out of my hoodie pocket to text one of my dads to make sure it's okay for me to hangout with Roman after school but saw Roman had already texted me.

Disney wannabe: Meet me outside by the front of the school

Well okay then.

Me: is it okay if I hangout with someone after school instead of walking straight home?

Starbucks father: wow you're being like extra social this year wtf

Me: omg

Starbucks father: I just checked with your other dad and it's okay with both of us, be good and don't die/kill anyone

Me: k thanks

Well I guess that's that then.

I walked out of the building and leaned up against the wall.

I don't know how long this will take.

I slipped my headphones over my ears and put on my 'awkwardly waiting for someone' playlist.

After a few minutes Roman emerged from the building with an almost obnoxiously red backpack on.

"Already so where are we going!" He asked seeming way too excited.

"I was thinking we could go to the Starbucks near here..." I said hoping he wouldn't disagree. It was the best thing I came up with.

"Oh yeah that works, are you driving yourself or do you need a ride?" He asked adjusting the strap on his bag.

"I don't have a car so..." I said drawing out the so.

"Well that settles that! My car is the red Mustang over there!" He said pointing out a really fancy car.

"Wow." I whispered.

He pulled his car keys out of the front pocket of his jeans and started walking toward the car, I followed of course because just standing there watching him walk to his car is weird and he probably already hates me so I'd rather not make a guy who has many popular friends hate me even more.

I got into his car, the interior was just as fancy as the exterior and I feel like if I touch anything I'd ruin it.

After an awkward car ride we finally made it to the Starbucks parking lot.

This also just happens to be the Starbucks my dad works at.

We silently walked in then Roman turned towards me.

"Should we get something?" He asked.

I shrugged.

"Probably." I said being my unhelpful self.

"Alrighty, I'll pay." Roman said as he started digging through his pocket.

"Nah, I got this." I said smirking.

He looked at me with his brow raised.

I walked up to the counter and waited for one of the employees to notice my presence, Roman followed soon after still looking confused.

"Oh hey Virge!" An employee, greeted me with a warm smile.

"Hot chocolate?" They asked leaning against the counter.

"Yup, and whatever the hell that dude wants." I said gesturing to a now extremely confused Roman next to me.

Roman ordered some extremely complicated drink that sounded like some sort of Harry Potter potion.

"Alright so will that be all?" asked the employee I can never seem to remember the name of

"Yep." I said slipping my hand into my hoodie pockets.

"You wanna talk to Remy?" They asked standing up straight.

"Sure, why not." I said shrugging again.

"Okay I'll be right back!" They said heading back into whatever is back there.

"Who's Remy?" Roman asked.

I looked over at him.

"He's my dad." I said casually.

"Oh." Was all he said before looking over at the tables.

Not long after dad walked out.

"Hey Virgil, I didn't know you were coming here." He said eyeing Roman.

"Yeah this place was the first thing hat came to mind." I said trying to read his expression.

Roman looked up him and put on a confident smile.

"So you're Virgil's father?" He asked.

"Yup, that's me. I raised this emo. He definitely gets his sarcasm from me." Dad said seeming kinda proud of himself.

Roman chuckled.

"Well I have work to do, so you two don't make a mess because I don't get paid enough for that." He said giving me a two finger salute before he walked back to I don't know where.

"Your dad seems cool." Roman said slowly.

I just nodded.

"I'm too indecisive to pick a table so that's up to you Roman." I said turning to face him.

He rolled his eyes and walked over to the closet table, hanging his backpack off of the back of his chair.

I followed, sitting in the chair across from him.

"Okay, so I guess now we have to pretend that us 'getting to known each other' for an art project isn't weird. You first." I said sounding bored.

"Okay first of all, it's not that weird. Second, we could ask each other questions, and you obviously don't want to go first I shall start! How old are you? You don't have to answer if that makes you uncomfortable!" He said quickly.

I mean I would tell him how old I am, but I barely know him and if I tell him the truth he might ask who and well, you know.

"I'm sixteen." I lied.

His eyes lit up and he sat up a little straighter.

Oh the irony.

"I'm sixteen too! I'll be turning seventeen in a month and I am so excited to finally find out the name of my soulmate!" He said practically bouncing in his seat.

I gave him a quizzical look.

"I'm a bit passionate about the subject as I'm sure you've noticed, I just think the fact that there is one person who I will get along with perfectly is so cool!" He said, I like to watch people's eyes when they're talking about something they're passionate about, it's like fireworks the way their eyes light up.

"Yeah, I noticed." I said looking away from Romans eyes.

He already thinks I'm weird, I better not be caught staring.

Soon afterwards we got our drinks and continued our conversation. Well, Roman talked really passionately about random things and I listened, occasionally making sarcastic comments.

As weird as it was to do this whole thing, it wasn't all bad I guess.

But I mean it was a lot of social interaction.
