Chapter 3
(A/N/ sorry for all the Authors notes but like how does this already have so many reads when we're only on the third chapter-)
Virgil's POV
I woke up as I usually do to that damn alarm. I turned it off then shoved my face into my pillow. I don't think I can human today.
After a minute of contemplating my entire existence I got out of bed thanks to my anxiety telling me that if I don't get out of bed I'll be late for school and my dads would be disappointed in me.
Anyway, I once again picked my outfit the night before after staying up drawing random shit. The outfit I had chosen was basically the same thing I wore yesterday, the same jeans but instead of black they're a dark purple and my shirt was a dark-ish grey v-neck.
I took my shoes off at the door yesterday so I can put them on while I'm on my way out.
I put my sketchbook back into my bag, made sure I had my one homework sheet and started to head for my door, realizing I should probably put socks on, and walking back and grabbing a random pair of mismatch socks.
I was heading out of my room checking my few social media accounts when I stopped dead in my tracks.
I could faintly smell coffee.
The house usually had a faint smell of coffee because of how many cups of Starbucks have been here, but it was stronger, and it was only this strong when dad was home. No one else is usually home when I am in the morning...
I slung my bag over my shoulder and started thinking of every possible (and even some not possible) reasons as to why he would be home.
I took a deep breath and walked further down the hall. I could faintly hear my dads talking in the living room, but it was muffled so I couldn't make out any of the words.
After a second of hesitation I decided to walk into the bathroom and try to make myself look more presentable and calm my nerves before I faced my parents.
I don't think I did anything wrong, but I could've done something I don't remember or didn't realize.
Okay I'm being a freaking coward.
I fixed my hair, pushing my bangs over my face like usual so no one can really see my face.
I walked out of the bathroom, put on my carefully crafted mask of indifference, and tried my best to look as casual as possible.
"Good morning kiddo!" Dad said, he was wearing his normal outfit he wears to work, but he had a Steven Universe pin on his cardigan.
"Morning." I said with a small nod.
"Why aren't you guys at work?" I asked slipping my phone into my pocket.
"Don't worry you're not in trouble or anything, we just wanted to see you first thing on the big day!" Dad said adjusting his pin.
It took me a moment to realize what he meant by "big day" then I remembered what day it was. My birthday. My seventeenth birthday.
My eyes widened at the realization.
"You forgot didn't you?" My caffeine addicted dad said with a smirk.
I nodded in embarrassment.
"Yep I thought you would." Caffeine addict dad said, gesturing toward me with his Starbucks cup, that he somehow has already acquired.
"Well don't leave us in suspense! Can we see your wrist? You don't have to if it makes you uncomfortable!" Gosh darn therapists, they're always making sure you're comfortable with things.
I raised my arm and raised my sleeve to see for myself, and sure enough there it was. Written in neat cursive crimson ink the name "Roman".
I inspect the name. I don't know anyone named Roman.
I looked back up at my parents curious expressions.
I walked over to them and held out my left arm so they could take a look.
After a minute of silence where they both were inspecting the ink cartoon addict dad clears his throat.
"Do you know anyone named Roman?" He asked pushing his glasses further up his nose.
"Nope, but I haven't really learned the names of anyone at the new school yet so they might live near here." I said withdrawing my arm pulling my sleeve back down.
Both of my dads looked very deep in thought.
"Well anyway I should probably start walking down to school." I said adjusting the strap on my bag.
Caffeine dad moved his sunglasses down his nose to look at me.
"You really think Emile is gonna let you do that?" He said with an eyebrow raise.
"I was hoping..." I said running a hand through my purple hair.
"Yeah there's no way you're walking when we can drive you!" Cartoon dad said with a big smile.
"No really you don't have to I can just walk like normal there's no need to drive me I'm sure you're both crazy busy!" I said, cringing slightly at how rushed that sounded.
Caffeine dad just pushes his sunglasses back to how they were before and looked at cartoon dad.
"Don't worry about it kiddo! I don't start work for another hour and your father has the day off so we're more then happy to drive you!" Cartoon dad said with an almost pleading smile.
"I just don't want to be a-" Caffeine dad cut me off.
"You're not a burden, don't worry about it. I know telling you to not worry about something is like trying to tell me to just like, not drink coffee, but trust me, it's all good." He said.
That didn't completely take away my nerves but it did help, only a little though.
"Fine, I'll let you drive me." I said in mock defeat.
My dads both looked at each other and smiled.
So, we left. It took a minute because I refused to leave the house without using some of my foundation to cover the new found crimson on my wrist, for fear of my hoodie sleeve sliding up at some point during the day and someone noticing the name and knowing whoever the hell this person is then telling them and that person trying to talk to me and gets to know me and soon realizes that I'm a terrible person.
Honestly, I feel bad for whoever is stuck with my sorry excuse of a human for the rest of their life.
