I took a deep breath before I pushed the front door and entered the Reed's house. Hearing the TV, I headed for the living room, my nerves tightening with each step. I almost slumped to the floor in relief when I walked in and saw only Hunt and Nat snuggled on the couch.

You'll have to face her at some point, I reminded myself, clutching the silvery bracelet I'd found on the floor of my room.

"Hey," I greeted and Nat turned to me with a smile and slightly flushed cheeks.

"Hi," he returned.

Hunter just nodded, his eyes on the boxing match on the TV and his hand stroking Nathaniel's arm over the dark blue sleeve of the younger boy's cardigan.

"How come Val is missing the match?" I asked, sitting at the edge of a sofa.

"What did you do?" Hunter's eyes were still on the screen. Nat raised his eyebrows at him.

"He sounds nervous," Hunt answered his boyfriend's unspoken question.

"I didn't do anything," I muttered, casting my gaze downward at my hands. "I just found Val's bracelet and came to return it to her."

"Mhm." Hunter didn't sound convinced.

"She's upstairs, in her room," Nat said, looking contemplative.

"Let them deal with it on their own." Hunt placed a kiss on top of my childhood friend's forehead.

"There's nothing to deal with," I insisted as I got up. "I'll just... Say hi and return her bracelet..."

... And try not to feel like I pervert as I attempt to convince her that she didn't walk on me pleasuring myself last night.

"So, yeah..." I went on, rubbing the back of my neck with my bracelet-free hand. "I'll just go up now and do that."

"Mhm," Hunter repeated.

"Yeah..." I said.

"Okay." Nat waited to see if I'd finally move.

I cleared my throat.

"I'm going now." I gave them a half-hearted wave and then traipsed up the stairs, taking deeper and deeper breaths as I neared Vallery's room.

I lifted my hand, closed my eyes, told myself that I'd done nothing wrong and deserved to be acquitted, and knocked on the door.

"Val?"

"Yeah?" Came from inside.

"Can I come in?" I asked in the steadiest tone I could muster.

"Sure."

I took a deep breath - again - opened my eyes and pushed the door.

"I'm so glad that you are here." She surprised me with her words and I faltered by the doorframe.

"Come on," she beckoned me with her hand from where she was lounging on her bed. Next to her was a stack of magazines. "Close the door."

I followed the order and tottered further into the room.

"Vallery... Why are you smiling?" I asked uneasy at the gleam in her blue eyes.

"I have a..." Her gaze fell on my hand. "Oh, you found my bracelet!"

"Yeah..." I put the jewelry on her nightstand. "About last night..."

"Then you definitely deserve it," she interrupted.

"Deserve what?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "Your bracelet?"

"Not that, you idiot," she slapped my arm, "but I could let you borrow it sometime. It goes great with one of my pink tops; it's stretchy so you can borrow that too."

"Very funny," I replied with a flat smile.

"I also think you'll look funny in it. That's why I plan to take pictures."

"Val, I'm not wearing your pink top."

"Eh, you'll lose a bet to me one day or another." She shrugged. "And then it's you, my stretchy pink top and me with a camera with good lens. But..." She held her hand up to hush me before I'd managed to put a word in. "But first," she patted the stack next to her, "these are for you."

My gaze fell on the magazines and I gaped, my ears going red, as I only now realized what they were.

"Now that I've shown you my naughty collection, maybe you'll stop being a selfish ass and show me yours," she calmly delivered.

I stood gaping and staring - at her, at the magazines, back at her, back at the magazines - for a good minute, my blood heating up and coloring my face.

"I wasn't... It wasn't what you thought!" I shouted.

"Oh, no?" She asked calmly.

Why was she so calm?

In what world do you walk in your best friend's room, see them touching themselves - because that's what she thought she'd seen - and then offer them your adult magazines?

You could not stay calm after that!

You'd be embarrassed or, if you were Vallery Reed, you'd be laughing your butt off...

Wait a minute... Why wasn't she laughing her butt off?

This was prime tease and mock material; why was she so calm?

I took a step forward and examined the cover of the top magazine. I removed it from the stack and looked at the next cover, and the next after that, and the next after that.

"Vallery..."

"Yes, Ray-Ray?" A hint of laughter crept into her inflection.

"These magazines are all brand new."

"Is that so Ray-Ray?"

"Did you seriously go out to buy adult magazines so you can watch my reaction when you offered them to me?"

"Yep," she chirped gleefully.

"Is that why you are not watching the boxing match with Hunt? You were ambushing me in your room?"

"Yep." This time she actually giggled.

"I hate you," I deadpanned and turned my back to her.

"Oh, come on, Ray-Ray." I heard the rustling of the bedcover as she got up. "Can you blame me? You are much more fun than a boxing match."

She draped her arm around my shoulders, but I slapped it away, facing her with what I thought must be an impressive glare.

"I felt so uncomfortable at what happened last night that I couldn't sleep and I've been practicing all morning what to say to you and this is how you greet me? With an adult magazines ambush?"

"It's me; what do you expect?" She grinned.

"I expect you to stop acting like a..."

"Child?" She offered while I contemplated on what insult to finish my sentence with. "A child can't buy adult magazines," she pointed out with a slight smirk.

"Whatever! Just... Can you be serious for a moment?"

The smirk disappeared.

"That's it? You are not going to swear revenge and try to prank and embarrass me?"

"We are not kids anymore, Val." I slumped on her bed.

"So?" She sat next to me. "We can still have fun."

"My ideas of what's fun have changed," I uttered, looking away from her. "I've changed."

She grabbed my chin and turned my face towards her.

"Is there nothing of my Ray-Ray left?" She asked as she looked into my eyes.

My heartbeat sped up.

Her Ray-Ray, huh?

"Maybe a little," I muttered as I didn't want to disappoint her.

Or myself.

I hadn't grown into a whiny, humorless almost adult, had I?

Back in the day, I would've reacted just as Val had expected: I would've tried to outdo her and cause her more discomfort than she'd caused me.

And what had been my first thought when that mishap happened last night?

To clear up the misunderstanding.

Lame.

"Fine." I smiled at her. "I'll try to prank you."

"Good." She grinned back. "To know you'll try, I mean. But let's face it: you won't succeed. I'm far more awesomer than you."

"Yeah. In your dreams, Reed." I nudged her with my elbow.

"Looking forward to seeing you embarrass yourself while trying to embarrass me, O'Brien!" She nudged me back - much more forcefully - and almost pushed me off the bed.

"Ouch!" I rubbed at my ribs and she laughed.

"Now..." She looked at the stack behind us. "Do you have any idea what we could do with a tiny mountain of adult magazines?"

A/N: Time to rekindle their friendship as it was before... Or maybe turn it into something more?

No rhyme intended.

What do you think of the chapter?

Do you agree with Raiden's initial reaction and think that it's high time for Vallery to become more responsible or are you happy that Raiden has gone into challenge mode?

What would YOU do if you had a tiny mountain of adult magazines at your disposal.

Please support the chapter with a VOTE if you enjoyed it and have a great time wattpadding!
